Destiny 2 Guide: How to Beat Crossfire Challenge in the Root of Nightmares Raid

It takes extra coordination to beat the Crossfire challenge in Destiny 2's Root of Nightmares Raid. Here's how.

Destiny 2 is no stranger to Raid challenges, and Root of Nightmares continues the tradition. The second encounter, the Crossfire challenge, is one of the easier ones to beat, particularly if your team is efficient at completing the mechanics with time to spare. However, you’ll need extra coordination to finish the encounter.

How to Complete the Crossfire Scission Encounter Challenge

If you’re familiar with how the Scission encounter works, two runners — one Light side, one Dark side — need to continuously rotate as they carry the appropriate buff from one side of the area to the other.

To complete the Crossfire challenge, no one can shoot the launcher crystal on the side they’re currently standing on.

Indeed, a third player will need to launch the runners each time the other two players have to rotate. The Fireteam will do this several times per floor — across three floors total.

There are a couple of ways to beat the Crossfire challenge with minimal additional effort.

  1. If the runners can move in sync, they can simultaneously shoot across the chasm and activate their launch pads. Be aware the crystals that activate the pads are pretty small, so runners will likely need weapons with scopes to ensure they hit their targets first try.
  2. You can also pair runners with an add clear player always in charge of shooting their launcher crystal. That way, the runner can simply call out “[their name] launch” or “Light launch” or something similar, so there’s hopefully no confusion about who’s going across when.

With those strategies in mind, beating the Crossfire challenge in Destiny 2 simply adds one more aspect of coordination to an encounter that requires a bit of it. Getting the extra Pinnacle for completing it might take a few tries. Still, you’ll need to succeed for a better chance at the Conditional Finality Exotic, the Crossfire Triumph, and the juicy loot.
