Destiny 2: Season of the Deep – How to Unlock Deep Focusing

Deep Focusing is a vital pathway toward seasonal gear in Destiny 2 Season of the Deep. Find out how to unlock it here.

Like the most recent seasons in Destiny 2, Season of Deep offers the opportunity to focus the season-specific Deep Engrams into weapons and armor. Thanks to the progression changes Bungie made to Season 21, unlocking the ability to apply Deep Focusing to your Deep Engrams (with me still?) is a bit different than usual. We’ll cover how to unlock Deep Focusing in this guide. It’s pretty simple, thankfully.

Unlike in previous seasons, progression in Season of the Deep is almost entirely reached through natural play. So long as you engage with the seasonal content for a good period, you will unlock almost everything you need. To unlock Deep Focusing, you need to do two things.

First, you need to obtain six Season of the Deep or reprised Reckoning weapons. It doesn’t matter if you get six of only one type or a mix of the two; there are twelve weapons total. You can see each of these weapons on the Deep Focusing screen. We’ve listed them here with Season of the Deep on the left and reprised Reckoning to the right.

  • Hand Cannon: Targeted Redaction / Spare Rations
  • SMG: Rapacious Appetite / Bug-Out Bag
  • Pulse Rifle: Different Times / Outlast
  • Shotgun: Until Its Return / Last Man Standing
  • Sniper Rifle: A Distant Pull / Slow Survivor
  • Sword: Thin Precipice / Just In Case

Second, once you have six of the above weapons, head to the Seasonal Challenge Screen, navigate to Seasonal Bonuses (the central diamond symbol on the leftmost column), and redeem the Deep Weapon Focusing challenge.

Now you can go back to the Signal Station and start focusing your Deep Engrams, with specific focusing costing one, two, or four Engrams depending on how specific you want to be.

That’s how you unlock Deep Focusing in Destiny 2. It’s not the most straightforward thing we’ve ever seen, but neither was the old system.
