How to Beat Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Here's how to beat the Dullahan in Dragon's Dogma 2

The Dullahan are the headless sickle-wielding spectral warriors roaming around Vermund, Batthal, and the Volcanic Island at night. They can be incredibly difficult to fight in the early game if you don’t prepare since they have an insta-killing move. Here’s how to beat Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

You can only encounter Dullahan at night, and they’ll stand out in the darkness due to their pale blue spectral glow. Here are some tips for beating a Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

Avoid the Scream

The most important part of the fight is to watch out for when it’s getting ready to scream and avoid it at any cost. It’s easy to spot since they’ll stop attacking and moving while holding up their spectral head briefly. The scream is a close-range AOE around them about the length of a greatsword swing, and if it hits you, you’ll fall unconscious. This is when they can use their early game instakill move on you. I tested it, and the unconscious curative doesn’t wake you up.

Dodge the Grab

The “instakill” move is a grab attack with a slow windup which you can dodge by running back or with the Thief dash. Under no circumstance should you try to parry or block it if you have the ability since it’ll grab you either way. As you get more HP and better gear, this stops being an instakill. However, you should still make an effort to dodge as it not only deals great damage but increases your loss gauge by that same amount.

Use the “To me!” Command:

When you see the Dullahan getting ready to scream, try using this command on pawns to get them to back away.

Ranged Pawns

The Dullahan is strongest when there are melee pawns beating on him since it can scream and disable them all. It’s better to bring ranged pawns that will spread out, forcing the Dullahan to chase them so they won’t all be caught in the scream AOE.

Those are some core tips, but here’s some more advice to make the fight easier.

Additionally, when fighting the Dullahan, keep these strategies in mind:

  • Parry Skills: Other than the grab attack, the Dullahan uses a few slow slash attacks with its sickle, which you can easily parry. Use Counter Slash on Fighters, Tidal Fury on Warriors, and Easy Kill on Thief.
  • Avoid Wisps: The Dullahan will shoot out several slow-moving but homing wisp projectiles that can fully drain your stamina, so prioritize avoiding them when this attack happens.
  • Damage Window: After you’ve dealt enough damage to the Dullahan, it’ll stagger and kneel to the ground, where you need to go in with your most powerful attacks. This means Scarlet Kisses for Thieves, fully charged attacks for Warriors, powerful spells for Sorcerers, etc.
  • Kiting: Archers and Magick Archers are also great since you can kite the Dullahan around while your pawns tank even. Keep in mind that it can teleport to you so be ready to dash away or use escape skills.
