Finding the Super Rod is not as easy as may seem at first, since you will have to unlock the National Dex mode before you can get it. This is a pretty big task, so prepare yourself to meet a lot of Pokemon.

How to Get the Super Rod in Pokemon BDSP

Unlock the National Dex

Before you can actually obtain the Super Rod, you must unlock the National Dex. This involves the following steps:

  1. Battle every trainer
  2. Speak to Professor Rowan
  3. Unlock National Dex

Battling every trainer is required since you need to face every single Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex, which includes 150 Pokemon. You don’t need to catch them all, though. You only need to encounter them.

It is recommended that your first Pokemon encounter is Drifloon, who appears only on Fridays at the Valley Windworks. Then, you can meet Fantina and the rest of the trainers in the game. But if you miss Drifloon at the beginning, it will be really difficult to get him again.

Once you have battled all the trainers, you can fly to Sandgem Town and speak to Professor Rowan at the lab. After some congratulations, Professor Oak will arrive and unlock National Dex mode for you.

Speak to Fisherman

Once you have unlocked the National Dex, you can now travel to the north of the town map and enter the Fight Area (indicated on the map above).

The boat at the docks will take you to Gate 225, where you can speak to the Fisherman. He will ask you: “Nothing’s as super-duper as Super Rod! Wouldn’t you agree?” You need to reply: “Yes!

After the conversation, the Fisherman will give you the Super Rod, so you can start catching all the most powerful water type Pokemon in the game.
