Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Delphox Tera Raid Event Guide

Here's how to beat Delphox in the new two-part Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Tera Raid event.

Tera Raids are back in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, this time welcoming the Generation 6 starter, Delphox. The traditional Fire/Psychic-type will take on a Fairy Tera Type in this 7-Star event running from July 6 to July 9 and again from July 13 to July 16. As always, you must complete the main story and post-game events to take on the Mightiest Mark Delphox in battle, and you’ll be limited to catching just one per save file. Of course, you may also partner up with another trainer who has beaten the game to participate in this event.

The upcoming event follows Chesnaught’s rocky entrance to the base games, which was cancelled back in May. Despite the slew of difficulties that befell the previous event, Delphox is primed to arrive as planned. Here’s everything you need to know about the event.

How to Find Delphox in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

During your Pokemon Scarlet or Violet playthrough, you’ll encounter crystals of all types throughout the Paldea region, marking Tera Raids of various levels. Once you’ve completed the main story and post-game events, you’ll need to download the latest Poke Portal News to enter 7-Star Tera Raid Battles. Follow these steps to get the job done.

  • Select Poke Portal in the X menu.
  • Select Mystery Gift
  • Choose Get Poke Portal News

After you’ve gained clearance to enter 7-Star Tera Raids, you can partake in regularly scheduled events, indicated by large black crystals in the overworld. The 7-Star Tera Raid featuring Delphox will be indicated by such crystals and marked with a Fairy-type stamp.

How to Beat Delphox in the 7-Star Tera Raid Battle

Of all the Tera Raid events previously held in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Delphox might pose one of the biggest challenges. Because the Fire/Psychic-type Pokemon will take on a Fairy Tera Type in the battle, it can sweep otherwise super-effective Steel- and Poison-type opponents effectively. For this reason, you’ll need to formulate a strong battle strategy in addition to practicing type advantages if you hope to win this battle.

7-Star Delphox’s Weaknesses

As stated, Delphox will have just two weaknesses in the upcoming 7-Star Tera Raid Battle. These include:

  • Steel
  • Poison

While both types boast a type advantage against Delphox’s Fairy Tera Type, the Pokemon will still have access to super-effective Fire- and Psychic-type moves, effectively snuffing most standard battle strategies in this event. Maintaining type advantages here can be challenging, but with the Terastal phenomenon’s help, it’s possible to mend the problem with a strong build that allows you to deal super-effective damage.

7-Star Delphox’s Ability and Potential Moveset

Delphox will come in hot with its hidden ability, Magician. This will allow the Pokemon to steal any items held by its opponents when it lands a move in battle, forcing hopeful trainers to come up with creative battle strategies without relying on the help of commonly held items like Leftovers or the Assault Vest in this 7-Star Tera Raid event.

Aside from this tricky ability, this Pokemon has access to an array of moves that can potentially take out Pokemon with type advantages. Not only that, but Delphox will almost certainly know the move Magic Room, which will nullify the effects of all held items for five turns in battle. Expect to see moves like this in the upcoming Tera Raid:

  • Mystical Fire
  • Heat Wave
  • Shadow Ball
  • Hex
  • Solar Beam
  • Psychic
  • Stored Power
  • Hyper Voice
  • Dazzling Gleam
  • Foul Play
  • Magic Room
  • Sunny Day
  • Nasty Plot
  • Calm Mind
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Psychic Terrain

Best Counters for Delphox in the 7-Star Tera Raid

Given that Delphox can counter Pokemon with type advantages in this event, I recommend battling with dual-types that have access to super-effective moves and/or alternative Tera Types. This way, you may be able to avoid taking too much damage while dishing out super-effective moves of your own. The following Pokemon with these builds have the potential to perform well in the upcoming 7-Star Tera Raid:

Ceruledge

  • Moveset: Bitter Blade, Iron Head, Swords Dance, Clear Smog
  • Ability: Flash Fire
  • Tera Type: Steel

Houndoom

  • Moveset: Flamethrower, Nasty Plot, Taunt, Sludge Bomb
  • Ability: Flash Fire
  • Tera Type: Fire

Slowking

  • Moveset: Stored Power, Slack Off, Nasty Plot, Amnesia
  • Ability: Oblivious or Own Tempo
  • Tera Type: Psychic

Iron Moth

  • Moveset: Sludge Wave, Acid Spray, Fiery Dance, Morning Sun
  • Ability: Quark Drive
  • Tera Type: Fire

Heatran

  • Moveset: Flash Cannon, Taunt, Steel Beam, Metal Sound
  • Ability: Flash Fire
  • Tera Type: Steel

Delphox 7-Star Tera Raid Event Rewards

As with other 7-Star Tera Raids, you’ll receive a hefty reward for successfully defeating Delphox in the event. This will include items like:

  • Treasures like Nuggets and Comet Shards
  • Stat boosters like Iron and Protein
  • Rare Candies and Exp. Candies

Be sure to build the best team possible to take on Delphox in battle. While the Generation 6 Pokemon is sure to put up a tough fight, you’ll have ample opportunities to best the Mightiest Mark opponent in this two-part event beginning this week and returning next week. With a great team by your side, you can defeat this Pokemon and claim your rewards in the upcoming 7-Star Tera Raid event coming to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
