Remnant: From the Ashes Rerolling: How to Control Rerolls

Use your save file to see bosses, items, and more in Remnant: From the Ashes
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Whether you play solo or multiplayer, one of the most fascinating aspects of Remnant: From the Ashes is the way worlds randomly roll every time you play. You never know which bosses and items you will encounter on a given playthrough. However, reroll is crucial for certain reasons.

As you continue to play the game, you may want to get a very specific weapon, mod, or item, or you may want different guns and armor no matter your build — crit or not. Making sure you get it doesn’t have to be a random roll. In fact, we’re about to fill you in on one of the game’s secrets.

On PC, you can actually use your save file to look ahead and see what encounters you will have every time you reroll your world. If you don’t like what you see, you can just reroll it again.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for PS4 or Xbox One.

Use Your Save File to See Items and Bosses

The first thing you’ll have to do is create a new save file in Remnant: From the Ashes. Here’s how to get a new save.

  1. Choose a character
  2. Head to Ward 13
  3. At the main crystal, choose to reroll your campaign

Once a new world is generated, exit out of the menus and the game will save automatically.

Method 1:

Once you have created your save file, there are a few different methods to find out what lies ahead. One method is to open your game file in Notepad.

In your File Explorer, navigate to:

C:users[username]AppDatalocalRemnantSavedSaveGames

  1. Right click on one of the files that ends with .sav
  2. Then click “Open With”
  3. Select Notepad
  4. You will see a text file with a whole bunch of gibberish

Use “Ctrl+F” to find what you’re looking for; obviously, use “Boss” for Boss, “Ring” for Ring. Some terms can be tricky to discern since the developers used development names for some bosses, but others list what they are called in-game, such as the boss “Brabus,” for example.

Method 2:

If that seems too convoluted, you can also use a handy little program a Remnant: From the Ashes player created. It uses the same information, but it seperates everything into an easy to read table  no “Ctrl+F” needed.

You can find that site right here.

If you don’t like what you find, just reroll your world and check the new save file.
