Hogwarts Legacy: How to Get to Azkaban
Azkaban is perhaps one of the most iconic locations in all of the Wizarding World, made more so because of the prison's terrifying Dementors. Considering that Hogwarts Legacy lets you explore many of the locations made famous by the books and movies featuring the be-speckled wizard with a scar, you may be wondering if you can get to Azkaban, too.
Do You Go to Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy? -- Answered
The short answer to whether you go to Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy is: yes! But there's a catch. To get to the infamous prison, you'll first need to choose Hufflepuff as your House during the Sorting Hat Ceremony early in the game. That's because the quest that takes you to the terrifying island is exclusive to House Hufflepuff -- you can't get there any other way.
How to Start and Complete Prisoner of Love
The Hufflepuff quest in question is called "Prisoner of Love." You'll receive and Owl Post from Lenora Everleigh after your quest in the Restricted Section with Sebastian Sallow. The not will lead you to the Hufflepuff Common Room to speak with a portrait of Eldritch Diggory, former Minister of Magic and founder of the Auror Recruitment Program. He wants you to help solve a murder.
Diggory will point you to Helen Thistlewood in Upper Hogsfield. You can ask him other questions, but to move along with haste, choose "I shall head there directly."
With that information and goal in mind, head to Upper Hogsfield, which will likely be on foot at this point in the game since you likely haven't procured a broom or a mount like the Hippogriff if you've been following the critical path. Use the North Hogsmeade Floo Flame to make things faster.
Find Thistlewood's hut on the southern edge of Hogsfield, just south of the market in the center of town. It should be pinpointed on your map by a quest marker. Go inside, and speak with Thistlewood. You can pick up several notes inside to learn more about Helen's exploits.
Thistlewood will fill you in about a case during her time as an auror, where a man named Richard Jackdaw was murdered and a woman named Anne was sentenced to Azkaban for the crime. But Helen has her suspicions that Anne wasn't responsible. Your job is to accompany Helen to the prison to speak with her about solving a puzzle that could solve the mystery.
Ultimately, your time in Azkaban amounts to a series a cutscenes, with Helen, Anne, and a handful of Dementors. There is a brief section where you control your witch or wizard as they walk with Helen through a dreary hall of prison cells, but that's about it.
Once you leave, you'll be tasked with finding Jackdaw's Cave, which is simply a manner of following the quest marker to a location in Hogsmeade Valley, just north of Upper Hogsfield.
How to Solve the Jackdaw's Cave Puzzle in Prisoner of Love
When you reach the cave, you'll find the pathway blocked by a barricade. There are six pillars in the wall on either side of the barricade, and you'll need to pull three of them on each side in a specific order to open the door.
- On the left side, use Accio to pull the top left pillar, the middle right pillar, and the lower right pillar.
- On the right side, use Accio to pull the top right pillar, the middle left pillar, and the bottom left pillar.
Go inside the doorway and pick up the note from Jackdaw inside to the left, then pick up the other items in the cave if you haven't already. Exit the cave, and you'll meet a new character. And that's the end of the Prisoner of Love quest.
Though you only spend a short time in Azkaban, it's neat just seeing the location in Hogwarts Legacy. Perhaps, if there's any future DLC for the open-world RPG, WB Games will let us explore the prison on a larger scale. But that remains to be seen. In the meantime, we've got plenty more Hogwarts Legacy coverage right here in our guides hub.
