Two Point Hospital

\n

Not to be outdone by Tropico 6, Two Point Hospital also has a Halloween event going on right now. Of course, the hospital sim was already kinda' spooky with ghosts floating about, but things are even more terrifying with the "boo-tiful update."

\n

From now until November 1, players can decorate hospitals with Halloween bits and bobs, listening to scary music over the hospital PA, and duck boisterous bats in the hallways.

\n

Certain illnesses will even get Halloween-themed updates, such as Lightheadedness getting renamed Firghtheadedness, with patients sprouting pumpkins for heads instead of lightbulbs.

\n

those who don't already own the game can grab it for 66% off on Steam until November 1.

Elder Scrolls Blades

\n

The Elder Scrolls Blades is celebrating the spooky season with the Witches Festival. New quests have been added to the game alongside a spell overhaul, new Nightmare Town, and brand-new decorations.

\n

The 1.4 update includes myriad fixes to combat, weapons, armor, items, and more. It even squashes a few pesky bugs. But(!), it doesn't squash spiders, which feature heavily in because Halloween.

Creatures lurk in dark caves and mysteriously abandoned villages dot the land. Are you brave enough to venture out into the land of the living dead?

\n

Along with the obligatory skeletons, pumpkins, and other spooky accouterments, the Contract includes special rewards for those who manage to survive the horror-filled wasteland that awaits them: the Tactical Wetsuit and Bat Shuriken.

Gears 5: Pumpkin Ball and More

\n

Gears 5 is bringing Pumpkin Ball back for Halloween this year, which is basically a pumpkin version of dodgeball, and it's also giving you the chance to earn a special Frankenstein skin by winning 13 matches of Pumpkin Ball before the event ends on November 4.

\n

This isn't your typical game of dodge, er, Pumpkin Ball, though. Players automatically revive unless you target specific, zombie-like weak points, including the head or the universal weakness to massive explosions.

The event started on October 22, with more planned sometime this week as well, so stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Elder Scrolls Online: The Witches Festival

\n

The Witches Festival returns once more in Elder Scrolls Online, bringing with it a gaggle of ghoulish goodies for your Halloween pleasure. The event starts October 24 at 10am EST and ends November 4 at the same time.

\n

One way to get the party started is earning tons more XP, and to do that, you'll need to complete "The Witchmother's Bargain" quest from the Crown store then use the Whistle you get as a reward.

\n

The Witches Festival has plenty more on offer as well, including Festival-themed collectibles and costumes, Dremora Plunder Skulls (complete with new items) earned through defeating special bosses once per day, and the Glenmoril Armor set.

Mario Kart Tour Halloween Event

\n

Mario Kart Tour is joining in the spooky fun this season, with some sort of Halloween event centered around a Luigi's Mansion course. The official tweet announcing the event only said we can get tricks and treats out of it.

\n\n

Sort of unrelated to the event, but not really because it is Luigi's Mansion after all, is the announcement that Luigi is coming to Mario Kart Tour as of now. (Apparently, he lost his keys and couldn't get there when the game first launched).

\n

Much to Luigi's undoubted dismay, the Halloween event is adding King Boo as a playable character too.

Don't Starve: Hallowed Nights 2019

\n

Klei Entertainment's lovable death simulator Don't Starve Together's Halloween 2019 event is the return of Hallowed Nights, starting October 24. The Klei blog post announcing the event's return said it'll largely include the same things as last year, with a few new treats and tricks.

\n

That means Candy items, Halloween Decorations, and Trinkets you can give to the Pig King for Candy. Candy is good in Don't Starve, because unlike other food items, it never spoils.

\n

Last year's Hallowed Nights also introduced the Mad Science Lab, where you could engineer a number of potions with a variety of positive effects — but at the expense of your sanity.

\n

Though not technically part of Hallowed Nights, October 24 is when we'll see Wurt the Merm make her debut in Don't Starve as well.

Dragalia Lost: Halloween Fantasia 2

Dragalia Lost's popular Halloween Fantasia event returns as the game's big Spooktober event, bringing with it new items, quests, and summons. It all kicks off at 2am October 18.

\n

First is the Trick or Treasure! Facility Event, which introduces Nightmare difficulty, new items to obtain, and more. It's accompanied by a new set of Daily and Live Endeavors that'll run through October 31 as well.

\n

Thanks to Perfectly-Nintendo distilling the patch notes, we also know the special Halloween Fantasia summoning event will include the following:

\n
    \n
  • Halloween Mym (Adventurer)
  • \n
  • Halloween Maritimus (Dragon)
  • \n
  • Halloween Lowen (Adventurer)
  • \n
  • Halloween Odetta (Adventurer)

Sea of Thieves: Fort of the Damned

\n

Things are taking a decidedly spooky turn for Xbox One and Windows 10 players this month in Sea of Thieves. The game's monthly content update this time around is, naturally, Halloween related, and it's no barebones update either.

\n

Old Boot Fort has been overrun by the forces of evil, turning it into the Fort of the Damned, managed by the Shadow of Fate Skeletons.

\n

This fort can be activated as long as the requirements are met, and it brings with it new Voyages, new Contracts from Duke, and some big rewards. More importantly, these additions aren't just for October; they'll continue on as a permanent part of the game.

\n

There'll also be new arena rules, new items and pets from the Emporium, and even a new way to play Shanties. The full details are here.

Fallout '76 Mischief Night

\n

Fallout '76's Halloween event this year is Mischief Night, letting you take full advantage of the day to wreak utter havoc on Whitespring. Mischief Night kicks off at noon EST on October 26 and runs until the same time on November 5, and it begins "every hour, on the hour." It's a public event, which means free fast travel too.

\n

You'll start off at the Mischief Pyre near the Springhouse Gazebo, and after hearing about the rogue Eyebot JES-2R's dark plans, you're in for a quick tour of the resort area.

\n

From there, you can destroy property and vehicles, vandalize buildings, risk getting tricked at one of the treat bowls, and basically do whatever your little black heart desires — as long as the Whitespring Elite Security Force doesn't catch you.

\n

Complete JES-2R's missions to earn rewards, and wearing or crafting your own costume helps further your progress towards unlockables.

Check out the full details here.

For Honor's Otherworld 2019 Event

\n

For the past two years, Ubisoft's For Honor has hosted an event centering around the Otherworld concept, with plenty of spooky challenges, quests, special rewards, Halloween versions of familiar characters, and of course, loads of lootable gear.

\n

The event usually runs well beyond Halloween too. As yet, like with many others, there aren't any concrete details about For Honor's Halloween event, but we'll update as soon as we find out more.

Hearthstone Hallow's End: Doom in the Tomb

\n

Blizzard finally lifted the lid on Hearthstone's Hallow's End 2019 event. This year's special Halloween event is Doom in the Tomb; it starts October 8 at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT and runs for three weeks until October 30 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

\n

As always, there'll be unique Tavern Brawls with rewards for completing missions under a certain time, plus trials in the Haunted Temple for both good and E.V.I.L. to overcome. Naturally, the Headless Horseman will be making his appearance as well.

\n

Some of the Tomb's treasures might seem familiar to longtime players as well, with classic cards like the Druid, Imp Gang Boss, and Imp Burglard making a return.

\n

There's a lot more involved, and you can read about it plus all the rewards on offer here.

Killing Floor 2: Grim Treatments

\n

Tripwire Studios' Killing Floor 2 Halloween event is already underway, with the launch of Grim Treatments earlier this month.

Nuked has special quests and cutscenes, but the main objective centers around the attempt to rescue a small child in the aftermath of nuclear fallout, and of course, there are plenty of Zeds trying to stop you.

League of Legends The Harrowing 2019

\n

The Harrowing is basically an institution in League of Legends. It's a yearly fright-fest that ties in with the game's lore, focusing on the Black Mist and, well, death. Because it's Halloween.

\n

The big draw in The Harrowing tends to be the special Champion skins on offer, plus various ranks of gear, and plenty of other additions to get you in the Halloween spirit.

\n

So far, there's absolutely nothing about this year's Harrowing, but since we're well into October now, that'll likely change soon.

\n

There will, in fact, be a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween event this year. Shared on EA Star Wars' official Twitter account, the event will begin on October 23 and end on October 31.

The event will center around the Ewok hunt on Endor, which, unsurprisingly, will be at night.

Dead by Daylight Withering Blight Event

\n

This year's Dead by Daylight Hallowed Blight event, called Withering Blight, was leaked during the Stranger Things event over the summer. That said, only the existence of the Halloween event was leaked. Since then, we've learned a little bit more.

\n

The event will run from October 22 to November 1. Not only will it bring "spooky decorations" to the world of Dead by Daylight, but items from Halloweens past, including:

\n
    \n
  • The Will O' Wisp flashlight
  • \n
  • The All Hallows' Eve lunchbox
  • \n
  • The Pustula Petals offering
  • \n
\n

Per the game's official blog:

\n
\n

You can find these limited-time items scattered throughout newly generated Bloodwebs and in chests for the duration of the event. You will keep any leftover items and be able to use them year round, but be warned: Any unused Pustula Petals will stay in your inventory, but will not be useable after the event period.

\n

Following feedback from the Hallowed Blight event last year, Pustula Petals will instead create a pair of event Hooks and Generators for each Offering used. Survivors who burn one of these Offerings will receive bonus Bloodpoints whenever an event Generator is powered, and Killers receive a bonus each time a Survivor is hooked on a special event Hook. If you don’t burn an Offering, you’ll still receive some bonus Bloodpoints, but not as many as those who do.

\n
\n

The event will also bring new challenges and rewards to Dead by Daylight. Putrid Serum will be a new currency for the event, which can be used to acquire cosmetics. Though there are a finite number of these items in the event, finding them all will net you "six hallowed cosmetics."

\n

Last year's event featured an adrenaline-filled rush to gather antitoxins to fend off an army of mutated creatures bent on destroying everything in sight, plus the slightly less tense inclusion of new items and gear.

Rainbow Six Siege Halloween Event

\n

Last year, Ubisoft treated us to the Mad House Halloween event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and while the company's been silent so far about this year's Halloween event, a set of rather frightening looking skins was recently leaked.

\n

obutu3_ posted a video on YouTube showing off new skins for Doc, Ela, and Vigil, among others, all of which are pretty obviously meant for Halloween.

\n

If it's anything like last year, expect to see plenty of Halloween decorations around the Rainbow Six Siege world and, hopefully, see the previous year's skins available again as well.

Call of Duty Halloween 2019

\n

Just like we can count on a new Call of Duty game every year, we can count on a Call of Duty Halloween event, too. Only — Activision hasn't announced one yet.

\n

Last year's was all about Black Ops, and the year before focused on Infinite Warfare. This year saw Call of Duty Mobile finally launch, so it's possible any new event could center around that since Modern Warfare won't release until October 25. Of course, we could also see something in Black Ops 4 ...

\n

Either way, these usually involve the same thing: new skins, stickers, and gear, all won through reaching specific tier levels and completing certain missions.

\n

Stay tuned for more.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Halloween Event

\n

Harry Potter and Halloween are perfect matches for each other, not least because something interesting — or deadly — always happens on Halloween.

\n

Hogwarts Mystery will be no different this year. The game's official Twitter account teased the game's Dark Arts Month earlier this month on Twitter.

We know what's going on with Wizards Unite, but we're still in the dark about Hogwarts

PUBG Halloween 2019

\n

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is getting a special set of Halloween skins this year. They're pretty much what you'd expect from Halloween costumes, too, ranging from The Wizard of Oz-themed Kansas and Scarecrow sets to pirate gear, and more, though the, er, happy Lion costume has received some changes since it first launched.

These costumes will all be sold individually and can be bought as sets for a discount.

Rocket League Haunted Hallows

\n

Psyonix has revealed new information regarding Rocket League's Halloween 2019 event. This year, things get a little peculiar with the game's Stranger Things crossover during the Haunted Hallows event.

\n

The Farmstead map gets transformed into the Upside-Down, reminiscent of the opening portions from Stranger Things Season 2. The map is now steeped in red with the Mind Flayer lurking in the background.

\n

The event runs from October 14 to November 11. During that time, players can earn unique toppers, banners, titles, decals, avatar borders and more. These fiendish flourishes will be available for a certain number of Candy Corn, which players can earn by playing matches.

\n

There are even golden pumpkins that hold special surprises.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright

\n

Respawn Entertainment will be adding a bevy of Halloween goodies and tweaks to Apex Legends with the first ever Fight or Fright event, starting October 15 and running through until November 5.

\n

Fight or Fright introduces new cosmetic items for weapons and Legends, some of which can be obtained through completing special, limited-time challenge missions.

King's Canyon is getting a spooky, night-themed makeover, but it's the new mode Shadowfall that brings the biggest change.

\n

Legends who fall in battle will be reborn as zombies and receive new abilities, like a vicious melee attack and, in true Titanfall fashion, the ability to run up walls.

\n

Once the field only has 10 living Legends left, the game changes to an escape mode. It's a race for the 10 Legends to make it to the evacuation ship while the undead zombie Legends do all they can to stop the evacuation from happening.

You can head over here to check out the full details and get a glimpse at some of the skins.

Fortnite Halloween 2019

Bloodborne: The Official Return to Yharnam

\n

Bloodborne's Halloween event is fully organized by the Bloodborne fan community. It's an unofficial official event (just go with it), and rules are determined on the Bloodborne sub-reddit based on which suggestions get the most upvotes.

Currently, the rules include choosing and creating a specific costume, like the Grim Reaper or Masked Hoonter, and using the invasion and resonance bells as often as possible.

Alan Wake, For Honor Free on Epic Games Store This Week https://www.gameskinny.com/4t9rd/alan-wake-for-honor-free-on-epic-games-store-this-week https://www.gameskinny.com/4t9rd/alan-wake-for-honor-free-on-epic-games-store-this-week Mon, 05 Aug 2019 12:15:49 -0400 GS_Staff

Both Alan Wake and For Honor are currently free on the Epic Games Store. The two popular titles follow last week's free offering of Moonlighter and This War of Mine

Both complimentary games will be available for $0 until August 9.

Those interested in snagging the complimentary titles can simply sign up for or log into an Epic Games account, find the games at the top of the store's front page, and add them to their library.

All free games downloaded to a user's library remain in that library for the lifetime of the account.

Alan Wake

Although it originally released way back in 2010, Alan Wake has remained relevant almost 10 years later. The psychological horror title has made copious must-play lists, and fans have continually decried the fact that the game still doesn't have a sequel.

Many gaming journalists, content creators, and gamers herald the Alan Wake as one of the greatest horror games of all time, putting it alongside genre staples such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill

For exactly $0, Alan Wake is a cant-miss steal. It's just too bad it's American Nightmare DLC isn't included.

For Honor

There's no denying that For Honor had some issues at launch. Although we called it "a brilliant new hybrid fighting game" in our official review, we specifically docked the game points for server connectivity. Others bemoaned the game's balancing and nebulous settings menus.

However, a lot has changed since the game released in 2017. In fact, For Honor is a much better game today

As with Alan Wake, there's really no reason not to nab For Honor for absolutely free.

---

While the past two weeks have seen Epic give away two games, next week's preview currently shows only one game: GNOG, a 3D puzzler. We don't know if there will be another game added or if Epic will return to the "one game a week" model it used previously.

For Honor Is A Much Better Game Today And Deserves A Second Look https://www.gameskinny.com/hcip4/for-honor-is-a-much-better-game-today-and-deserves-a-second-look https://www.gameskinny.com/hcip4/for-honor-is-a-much-better-game-today-and-deserves-a-second-look Mon, 11 Feb 2019 14:13:25 -0500 Joseph Fryman

When I first saw gameplay of Ubisoft's For Honor, I was completely enthralled. It had everything that I wanted from a medieval action game: beautiful graphics with immaculately designed characters, a deep progression system, and a visceral and engaging combat system that encouraged players to think on the fly and anticipate their opponents' moves.

When the game came out, I was beyond excited, and I dove head first into its multiplayer modes. At first, it took some getting used to, but I soon found myself a relatively skilled combatant.

During this time, I ignored the game's many issues, brushing them off as minor concerns that would soon be addressed. I took the frequent lag and disconnections as simply being the result of an unexpected volume of early adopters; I saw the many balancing concerns and exploits as small oversights that would soon be addressed; and I considered the overwhelming number of unlocks, and the relatively small payouts for games, as a reason to keep heading back in and earning those rewards.

I held out longer than any of my friends who had bought the game, but, eventually, I had to concede defeat. For Honor was a fantastic idea, and full of occasionally great moments, but it was broken at its core.

Since its release, I've gone back to the game a few times. I never wanted to give up on the idea of For Honor, and I was constantly drawn to give it another try, hoping for some improvement.

I usually found myself back on after a major update addressed some of the biggest balancing issues I had with the game, or a major change brought improvements like dedicated servers. Over time, the game consistently improved with each new patch.

That said, sometimes certain heroes would be adjusted, and that would lead to another hero's flaws and imbalances being brought to light. Or changes to under-performing heroes would cause them to come back a little too strong. However, overall the changes moved the game in a positive direction.

Despite the adjustments to the game's heroes though, its underlying issue remained unaffected: the gear system. This system was a relatively revolutionary idea at the time, borrowing from the RPG concept of acquiring different equipment to increase a character's stats.

The problem with the system was that it created a nearly insurmountable gap between players who had a lot of play time with a specific hero, and thus had very high level gear, and those who didn't have as much time in the game, or had spread out their time between several different heroes. The advantage that the gear score created was so extreme that one high level player could easily handle a whole team of low level players.

This was exacerbated by the heavy advantage given to these high level players by the game's "revenge" mechanic, a system designed to give players a small power boost when outnumbered in order to even the playing field. Understandably, the frustration of having your whole team unable to kill a single opponent, due to an unfair upgrade system, led many players to abandon the game.

Eventually, Ubisoft did attempt to address the issues with the gear system, implementing small buffs for low level players who hadn't acquired any gear as well as increasing the trade-offs between selecting different types of upgrades. Despite this overhaul, the gear system remained fairly unbalanced, and the game itself still had many issues.

This changed when last year's "Marching Fire" update arrived, bringing hope that the game was still salvageable. While For Honor had gotten incrementally better since launch, "Marching Fire" was the game's biggest update ever, and it brought a slew of new content and addressed a large number of issues

Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, the "Marching Fire" update completely overhauled the gear system. No longer did a player's gear give them an increase to any of their base stats, instead granting progress towards various perks.

These perks offer benefits that give player's a small bonus, but they do not make them all around better. This change puts all players on a more even playing field, and it normalizes the stats across heroes.

Now, when I play For Honor, I know that the Shinobi is going to hit hard and fast, but, without exception, is going to go down in a few good hits. I know that the Warlord will only do small chunks of damage to whittle away at my health, but can take some serious punishment before going down. And I know that grouping up against an opponent is going to give them revenge, but it will be at about the same rate and power bonus every time.

This consistency makes all the difference in the world.

Secondly, the update added a wealth of new content into the game, including four new heroes, a new game mode, complete with three unique maps specifically tailored to it, and a new PvE mode. This blast of fresh content helped to breathe new life into the game, and it encouraged many to return to the game to try the new characters and modes.

These returning players found a game that had changed and evolved for the better, carefully tweaked and adjusted by a development team that clearly cares about improving the title and listening to player concerns. This sharp turnaround  has left me excited to see what is coming next for the game, and players won't have to wait long.

The first big addition to the game for 2019 is out now in early access in the form of the game's next hero, a sword and shield wielding Knight by the name of Vortiger. This new hero promises to add some interesting new tactics and challenges to the game.

Besides Vortiger, Ubisoft has promised three other new heroes for 2019 as well as many more updates and content drops. Indeed if you are someone who wanted something great from For Honor, but felt let down by the game's release, there truly is no better time to jump back in and give the game another try.

As with many of their other properties, Ubisoft is fully committed to updating and improving the game. For Honor has become one of the most remarkable examples of how player feedback, and a willingness to iterate and improve by the developer, can completely transform a game from promising, but troubled, into a truly great experience that more than deserves a second chance.

For Honor Is Getting Dedicated Servers on Consoles https://www.gameskinny.com/nzdwm/for-honor-is-getting-dedicated-servers-on-consoles https://www.gameskinny.com/nzdwm/for-honor-is-getting-dedicated-servers-on-consoles Mon, 12 Mar 2018 15:12:02 -0400 Andrew Krajewski

The Ubisoft blog announced on March 5th that console players can expect dedicated servers in For Honor starting on March 6th. The change has already taken place on PC for a while now, and Ubisoft has reported that since the change, resyncs and host migrations have gone down, while completion of matches has gone up. This results in a more fulfilling gameplay experience for the people who still play the game.

These positive changes reflect the troubles For Honor experienced on release, when it launched with peer-to-peer networking. In addition to complaints about microtransactions, players initially also noted issues with lag and connectivity with the game. Often, in 4v4 matches, one or more players would drop out of the match before it finished. The experience was more cumbersome than enjoyable.

Players who have stuck around have wanted these changes for a long time, and now they should be able to have a more enjoyable experience in the game. Since the console launch of the servers, there has been a positive response from the For Honor community on reddit and elsewhere.

Wolfenstein

\n

Wolfenstein: The highly acclaimed series where Nazis won the war. An interesting concept for a card game, to be sure.

\n

It would be easy to harmonize the card game with the main series too, where it is rebels versus the Nazi regime and all the technology you get throughout the game is what your power ups are based on. It would certainly make for some interesting story and some interesting cards as well.Making mech and gun power ups could be a fun time for the developers, as well as the players making combos, allowing you to create new power ups and weapons.

\n

--------

\n

Did you know Zelda had a card game? Though there are many more games  and card games out there, there are several that many don't know of. It just takes some digging and some imagination to come up with the next great thing!  And speaking of the next great thing, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more interesting articles about your favorite games.

Assassin's Creed

\n

Assassin's Creed is another series just begging to be a card game. The war between the Templars and Assassins would be yet another interesting and engaging game, allowing for all out card wars between and across the many different time periods that the games take place in.

\n

The stories that have already come to pass only cover a few parts of history, so the card game could cover everything else that the video games have not touched. In addition to providing an almost limitless amount of  content, it allows for multiple expansions to be released (which is good for the developers), along with an endless possibility of timelines to take advantage of. AC the card game could be just what the franchise needs to be revitalized!

God of War

\n

There are multiple possibilities for a God of War card game. It could turn into a simple adventure or several Kratoses battling it out across the earth. It could easily be made into different eras that one or several games take place in, and, of course, you can customize your own deck/character to fit that era.

\n

The cards that you gain can be power-ups, along with monsters that you fell during your adventures. Along with the many unique stories that are still to open with the Norse God of War, there are many possible storylines they can follow and many cards they could create, as many as there are myths and legends.

Halo Series

\n

With Halo being one of the most iconic franchises every created, there are so many stories that 343 Studios can follow now via other channels, now that the Halo games themselves are slowly grinding to a halt.

\n

With the Halo Wars stories also starting to take over the scene, they can create new content and follow the stories of not just the Spartans, but also the Covenant as well. We can also follow the stories of Master Chief and his comrades in arms! 343 can make a system that is just as simple as any -- two factions, cards on both sides, and brawl it out, straight or mixed.

For Honor

\n

For Honor the CCG is the perfect way to bring about engaging combat and story between the the factions that wage war in the game. Between the Vikings, Knights, and Samurai, there can be so many compelling stories and cards to help develop the game.

\n

They can delve into the stories and origins behind cards that they create, and enhance to a more story based game centered around strategy, instead of just carnage. And the especially interesting part is a pillage mechanic, where you can steal power ups from other factions to use yourself. That alone would help set this game apart from all the others and manage to keep the original's tone and mood.

Call of Duty: Zombies

\n

One of the most interesting card games that could be created has to be Call of Duty: Zombies, which could literally be made into the MTG card mode, the Horde. There could be a game made where you are fighting off zombies with your deck.

\n

It would be an interesting crawl going after better loot, and your rewards would be better power ups, even more in-depth stories, and new content for zombies and the WWII era. What's not to love? Activision can make a cash cow out of this, especially since the Horde is only really played at MTG events and player gatherings anyway.

Destiny

\n

With three main classes in Destiny, Bungie could follow a route similar to Hearthstone, having several kinds of decks to fight enemies of the Light. The Bungie team could also explore stories they were never able to cover in the main game, allowing them to finally please fans --which is always nice -- and come full circle with some of those loose ends.

\n

But that's not all. They could also just make it where you have cards of all the alien lifeforms, allowing you to wage war with any combination of factions you desire. The content and massive amount of customization would bring about a ton of interesting playstyles and complex decks every bit as intense as Magic:The Gathering.

Hearthstone is breaking the scene for CCGs, but what else is out there exactly? There isn't much to compete with it, other than Magic: The Gathering. Though Hearthstone is just a card game about Warcraft, there are many other games out there that could take the same approach and be just as awesome. The question then becomes: what games out there have what it takes? Imagine a game that takes you on the space odyssey of Halo or the war that Kratos wages against the gods? That's exactly what we did with this list, and here's what we came up with.

Fortnite

If for nothing else than just parachuting down with 99 other people Fortnite Battle Royale rounds out our list as a game we would love to see in VR. From building, to shooting, to hiding your way into the top 10, the cartoony Fortnite world would be an absolute delight to experience in VR. The PVE Save the World mode wouldn’t be half bad either. Fighting off wave after wave of cartoon zombies would be thrilling, and just the right amount of scary.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
\n

I haven't met a single person who doesn't like Mario Kart. It's easy to get the hang of, and you always feel like you have a chance to win the race. The levels are also delightful to drive through. I know, I know there’s already that Tokyo arcade that offers the VR Mario Kart experience, but if there could be a way for the common gamer to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from the comfort of their own home, it would dominate the VR market. Fans would come in droves to VR to play this game, if only because nailing your friends with a green shell would never be more satisfying.

Portal
\n

This one might turn your stomach, but from the first inklings of VR, Portal was part of the discussion. This 3D puzzler that redefined the way we think about puzzles would be a natural for VR. Imagine going through a level and hearing someone like GLaDOS talking behind us or above us (which would be a great game to take advantage of sound in a 3D space) and trying to get under our skin as we try to beat a level. While we have Portal Stories: Mel, it’s not the same as the mainline, genuine Portal experience. We want to blast our portal guns and travel through disorienting dimensions and vomit-inducing infinite loops!

Overwatch
\n

If any FPS would work well in virtual reality, Overwatch would. The gameplay is already favorable to VR: each character only has a few abilities to master, while movement is easy to master for most characters. As long as we had great wireless VR technology, so we wouldn’t trip all over ourselves, this arena shooter would be a fantastic way to spend a quick hour in VR. Players would get an opportunity to really challenge themselves against others and have a whole new way to compete with one another. Overwatch also has tremendous lore around it that people are in love with. Being able to go into a world you love and see your favorite characters (I'm looking at you Mei and Winston) would go a long way in bringing people real joy.

World of Warcraft
\n

So many fantasy and sci-fi novels talk about being transported into virtual worlds and going on adventures with friends. When World of Warcraft came out in 2004 it was the virtual world everybody had been waiting for. Now that we have the technology WoW VR would be the epitome of virtual reality experiences if done right. Just imagine being transported into a fantastical world and cooperating with 24 other people to take down a dragon 30 times bigger than you. It would bring a whole new meaning to the term heroic mode. If any MMORPG should be made into VR it's this one.

Steep
\n

Let’s face: it snowboarding and skiing in real life can be scary and downright dangerous for the inexperienced, not to mention relatively expensive. We're not all capable of going to the Olympics like Lindsey Vonn or Shaun White. Fortunately for us who are more risk-averse, but still love snow, Steep captures all that fun and excitement, without any actual risk of bodily harm. If we could be instantly transported to the peak of Denali and go for a high adrenaline race down the slopes in virtual reality, how could we possibly resist that temptation? Steep is highly acclaimed for how beautiful it looks, and in VR , I imagine we'd all be wondering why we can't see our breath while we trick our brains into feeling chilly.

For Honor
\n

Ever wonder who would win a fight between a knight, a viking, and a samurai? If so, then this game is for you (and it probably still is, even if you never wondered). While it has its fair share of issues, like connectivity and microtransactions, For Honor has a very rewarding fighting system. If the game solved all of its issues and came out on VR, it would be a truly great experience. Who doesn’t want to grab the nearest sword and beat up on any unfortunate soul who dares come near them? The 3D environments in the game would be especially great to experience in VR, combat would bring entirely new challenges, it would be a great workout, and the arenas are small enough to traverse easily. There's almost no reason why this shouldn't work as a VR game.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
\n

Horizon: Zero Dawn is breathtakingly beautiful. This action RPG features hunting, stealth, and a fantastic story, not to mention the landscapes in HZD are tremendous. Being able to experience that world in VR would make your jaw hit the floor. You would practically be able to feel the tall imaginary grasses while stalking your prey as Aloy. Which is good, since those machine monsters would probably be even more terrifying in VR.

Overcooked
\n

Overcooked is fun, hectic, and easy to pick up. It's a game where friends work together in a restaurant to get out as many orders as quickly as possible (think diner dash done even better). Its simple controls make it a great candidate for VR. This co-op frenzy would guarantee laughs, as you see your friends bumble around while you try to get those meals out on time. So it's easy to speculate that being inside a crazy kitchen like the kitchens in Overcooked would lead to even bigger laughs then the game already produces in groups of friends. And of course, the best part is there's no risk of actually cutting yourself with that kitchen knife!

VR technology has been improving steadily, and dedicated VR gamers are always hoping for the next great experience. Virtual reality offers people the opportunity to immerse themselves into fantastic worlds and challenge their brains and bodies in new and exciting ways. The technology for virtual reality gaming is quickly improving, and after titles like Doom and Star Trek: Bridge Crew came to VR, the platform looks more promising than ever for gamers. To prepare for that glorious future, here are a few more games we hope to one day experience in VR.

Exciting New Details on For Honor Season 4 https://www.gameskinny.com/a9vsr/exciting-new-details-on-for-honor-season-4 https://www.gameskinny.com/a9vsr/exciting-new-details-on-for-honor-season-4 Thu, 02 Nov 2017 15:35:03 -0400 Sarah Elliman

Ubisoft have recently carried forward new details on what season four of For Honor has in store for its players. The new season will kick off on the 14th of November and includes new heroes, maps and modes.

The new season is entitled "Order and Havoc". The two new heroes are Aramusha and Shaman who belong to the Samurai and Viking classes respectively. Aramusha is going to be a hybrid character, mixing both fast attacks and quickly put together defensive skills. Shaman will bring together two new abilities called Blood Trance and Predator’s mercy. The first ability will allow players to gain back health from successful strikes whereas the latter will allow players to dive into other characters with a flurry of attacks.

The new heroes will be available for season pass holders on the 14th, however if you don’t have one you’ll still be able to get the players on the 21st of November for 15,000 Steel each.

Two new maps are also going to be available for the release of season four, titled Market Town and The Gauntlet. They are free and will be accessible for all For Honor players on November 14th.

Tribute mode will also arrive with the Order and Havoc season. This mode is an objective-based 4V4 team mode that is centered around bringing offerings to a shrine. In return for successfully securing an offering, you will be able to choose from three perks to help you for the match. Vindicator will give you an attack boost, Guardian will provide you with a regenerating shield and Oracle will allow you to spot players on the map. Ubisoft believes that:

"...the Offerings and their blessings can tip the scale of battle in a team’s favor at any given time, requiring teammates to make thoughtful choices about the Heroes they bring into battle, what feats they equip, and how to adapt to any given situation."

Ubisoft, Get It Together: For Honor Is a Joke https://www.gameskinny.com/199oa/ubisoft-get-it-together-for-honor-is-a-joke https://www.gameskinny.com/199oa/ubisoft-get-it-together-for-honor-is-a-joke Tue, 05 Sep 2017 11:01:09 -0400 Jeffrey Rousseau

Well fellow action game fans, despite what Ubisoft wanted us to believe, For Honor is now a joke of the year. Instead of being this new cool exciting competitive game, we're left with...meh. I could hardly count the ways this title let me down.

For Honor is a third-person, hack-and-slash fighter developed and published by Ubisoft for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game set players in a medieval period where they take on the roles of historical warriors. As Knights, samurai, or and vikings, players duel to win territory and dominance. And it probably would have been a cool game -- if it actually worked.

Promising Preseason

The game's premise sounded really fun on paper -- and at first, players agreed. The beta period was met with healthy popularity. Then, upon its February release, the title reviewed quite well with critics and players alike. It was also the top selling title of February 2017, according to the NPD.

So what happened to turn this game into a laughing stock? A few things, actually -- the online experience took a dive, players became disenfranchised, and the competitive scene had a pretty big blemish.

No Multiplayer For You

Let's start with the multiplayer experience. Understandably, this is the game's biggest selling point. But upon release, things were pretty rocky from the start. In fact, the developers had a laundry list of known issues they were aware of.

Players could not reach matchmaking. Players returning from the beta had issues with connecting. There were also connectivity issues between players of mixed regions -- so players within the US and Europe would have issues playing together. The official recommendation for this issue was simply to not play against players of different regions.

Now, where's the fun in an online game when you can't play against your friends in Europe? Or any other part of the world.

Aside from that, the net code in For Honor simply isn't good. Why? Because it uses a peer-to-peer system. Simply put, this means that players must host other players in a match, rather than all players connecting to a centralized server. This puts a lot of strain on most internet connections -- especially for those who don't have the best internet connectivity. This created (and is still creating) a lot of issues with lag and desyncing. Ubisoft plans to have dedicated servers in the future, but it's unlikely that they'll come in time to salvage the damage that's already been done by these problems.

Bugs and Tournament Controversy

The other concern that arose were bugs. No game is without its far share of glitches post launch, right? Well be that as it may, it's still pretty bad in For Honor's case.

The bugs were bad, but Ubisoft's lack of patching and support was far worse. One massive exploit went so overlooked that it was used to win a tournament with $10,000 on the line.  A player named Jakub “Alernakin” Palen was able to win using “unlock tech” that allows Nobushi (Samurai) players attacks to become unparryable -- an obvious advantage in a game that requires parrying to fight fairly.

This player had no shame in showing the bug off in his victories. He even freely admitted he hadn't played the game for nearly two weeks prior.

It would be unfair to say Ubisoft wasn't fixing some of the issues like this that have arisen.  The team is acutely aware of pretty much all the game's major bugs, and in some cases have been hard at work to fix them. But the patch that solved the exploit was released after the tournament.

This would have been forgivable if Alernakin had discovered the cheat and kept it all to himself until he hit the tournament stage. But unfortunately that wasn't the case -- many players (and Ubisoft) knew about the bug in the time leading up to the tournament. But there were no rules in place to disqualify a player for using the cheat.

Speaking from a competitive standpoint, this kind of fiasco is essentially a tournament killer. The hard work of many was made null and void by a cheat. A thriving competitive scene can't be predicated on hacks and exploits. And if the first major For Honor tournament was won by cheating, what kind of incentive does that give anyone to bother getting good at the game or participating in a competitive circuit that's already sort of been corrupted by Ubisoft's total disregard for quality and basic functionality?

The irony of that whole tournament brouhaha? It was actually intended to serve as a means to hype up fans for Season 3 of For Honor. But after seeing how easily the game could be exploited and how little Ubisoft was doing to rectify the issue, fans had the opposite reaction.

Aftermath

The real problem with For Honor isn't so much that these issues happened. Had they cropped up in discrete pieces and been promptly addressed, the game probably could have survived. But these bugs and other problems happened consecutively, persisted due to lack of dev support, then blew up on the eSports scene. It was a perfect storm that turned For Honor from a competitive experience to a laughing stock.

Can Ubisoft take strides to really improve the game and win back the favor of its fans? That's a good question. It's certainly possible, and the dev team is working hard to address a number of issues. 2017 isn't over yet, so there's still time for For Honor to redeem itself.

But frankly, I wouldn't hold my breath.

And there you have our Ubisoft E3 2017 predictions! For all intents and purposes, it seems like it's going to be a pretty great show for the publisher. With several huge games coming in the next year, from South Park to Far Cry, The Crew and Assassin's Creed, there's going to be a lot to show.

\n

As well as the games we know about, Ubisoft is likely to have several unannounced titles that could steal the show, be it Splinter Cell 2, Child of Light 2, or the brand new IP. It's definitely an exciting year and, considering they've chosen for developers to host the briefing, it seems like games are going to be the focus.

\n

What do you think Ubisoft is going to show-off? Which game are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check out our other predictions! Until next time, stay tuned to GameSkinny!

New IP

\n

Ubisoft can't help but close out it's E3 shows with a new IP we've never heard of. The company has done this every year since Watch Dogs was originally revealed, and more often than not it's a pleasant surprise. I expect this year to be no different.

\n

Of course, there's no way of telling what the new IP will be for sure, but we've already gotten a big tease. In a fantastic tongue-in-cheek mission in Watch Dogs 2, players sneak into Ubisoft headquarters and steal a new game trailer, then leak it to a games website for a nice fee. This trailer pops-up online and it shows images like the one above; weird spaceships orbiting planets with the tagline: E3_Conf_Video_v03.

\n

That's as on-the-nose as you can get when it comes to teases. Sources have said the game is indeed real and codenamed "Pioneer", although it was also reported that the game suffered a snag in development. This means the game is not a sure thing to be seen at E3 this year but, given Ubisoft's track record for revealing new IP to close the show, I'd still put money it.

Far Cry 5

\n

Back to serious business, and that business is the awesomely-crazy, Far Cry 5! Just to get something out of the way, I do not understand the so-called "controversy" surrounding the game; it seems some people believe Ubisoft is trying to reflect the Donald Trump supporters in the American Mid-West. A notion that is simply ridiculous.

\n

Far Cry 5 is releasing in the spring of 2018 and it is exciting! The mainline series needed a shake-up after Far Cry 4, and moving to the beautiful plains and mountains of Montana is certainly that. Brandishing Far Cry's signature brand of charismatic cult-leader, black humour, beautiful landscapes, and fanatical action, the new entry in the series is going to be a big deal.

\n

I would expect Far Cry 5 to almost get as much time at Ubisoft's E3 conference as Assassin's Creed, underlining how important the franchise has become to Ubisoft. I also think it could close the show...were it now for one more surprise announcement!

UbiArt

\n

Time for a complete change of pace. UbiArt Framework is a game engine created by Ubisoft to make smaller titles, the likes of which Child of Light and Valiant Hearts emerged!

\n

Those two titles were genuinely fantastic games and a sequel to Child of Light was confirmed by the developer back in 2015! It's been three years since the original title and I wouldn't be shocked if we seen a trailer for the follow-up. Or so I can hope. For what it's worth, a sequel to Valiant Hearts seems less liekly but no less desired.

\n

Moreover, we could very well see a brand new title emerge from the UbiArt Framework engine. Valiant Hearts was the last game made by the engine to release on either PS4 or Xbox One, so we're long past due a new title in the beautiful art style.

Splinter Cell

\n

Here's something that tends to get predicted every year - well since the last instalment in 2013 - but it's bound to happen at some point.

\n

Splinter Cell is one of Ubisoft's best-known franchises, with combined sales of nearly 18 million units! The last game in the series was Blacklist for PS3 and XBox 360 in 2013, and therefore plenty of time has passed for a new title to be almost ready to go. Not to mention, a supposed leak said that Sam Fisher's voice actor, Michael Ironside, had been spotted at Ubisoft Toronto.

\n

In a time when so few stealth games exist, a new Splinter Cell would be a welcome surprise to fans. We'd be very eager to see what a Sam Fisher adventure looks like in 2017 on PS4 and XBox One!

For Honor/Watch Dogs 2/Ghost Recon: Wildlands

\n

Let's keep this one short and sweet. In the past year, Ubisoft has released Watch Dogs 2, For Honor, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands. These games have received varying degrees of success but none has set the world on fire.

\n

Regardless, support for all three of these games is unlikely to be concluded. Watch Dogs 2 has received five different DLC packs already but I wouldn't be surprised to see one more story-based DLC pack shown off at the conference. Despite selling even less than the original, the game has gathered a fan base and Ubisoft will want to show them faith.

\n

For Honor and Ghost Recon: Wildlands are a different story however. Despite charting well initially, For Honor only sold 1.72 million copies and it was reported this past week that the game has lost a gigantic 95% of its player base. That's horrendous news for Ubisoft but the company will definitely want to try and recoup those losses with some DLC to get fans back on board. Some decent DLC is probably a last throw of the dice for For Honor.

\n

Ghost Recon: Wildlands on the other hand, sold a little better and has retained a player base. A major expansion for Wildlands just launched, titled "Fallen Ghosts", and has been received well. This makes another expansion for the game this soon unlikely, however I wouldn't be surprised to see a quick trailer for the recent DLC.

The Crew 2

\n

The Crew 2 was announced in an earnings call by Ubisoft, then confirmed on Twitter with the new logo. The game is set to release in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31 2018 - so we can guarantee a showing at E3.

\n

The Crew released in 2014 to mixed reviews but it did managed to accumulate 10 million registered players, meaning a sequel was fairly inevitable. New features are unknown as of now but it's fair to say that The Crew 2 will have to impress a lot more than its predecessor when it faces competition from the biggest names in the genre: Forza Motorsport 7, Need For Speed: Payback, and Gran Turismo Sport.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

\n

The second South Park game from Ubisoft was revealed two years ago at E3, in what was a fairly unexpected announcement. After suffering two delays, the game is finally ready for release in October.

\n

We've already seen quite a bit from The Fractured But Whole but I fully expect another trailer, or gameplay demonstration from Ubisoft at E3. Due to the game releasing in a couple of months, Ubisoft will wish to keep it in the minds of everyone and get them excited again. If the sequel is anywhere near as good as The Stick of Truth, we'll be in for a treat come Halloween!

Assassin's Creed: Origins

\n

Ubisoft managed to hold the next Assassin's Creed game a secret for longer than usual, but still, the game inevitably leaked before its official announcement. From alleged screenshots to a season pass and even a T-shirt, Assassin's Creed: Origins leaked in some ridiculous ways in the past month.

\n

Ubisoft's E3 briefing will be the first official showing of the game however, and it's fair to say this is the most anticipated Assassin's Creed in a long time. You can blame Unity, glitches, and repetitive gameplay, but the reality is that fans simply became burnt out on the franchise and needed a break. Well, two years later and we're more than ready.

\n

Assassin's Creed: Origins is said to take place in Ancient Egypt and star a new protagonist by the name of Bayek. The game is expected to feature redesigned gameplay, vastly improved visuals, horse-riding, and a massive and seamless open-world. All of this and the game is said to be releasing this fall, fitting the usual reveal-to-release schedule for the series. I could be completely wrong but I can see Ubisoft starting the E3 showcase with Assassin's Creed and just addressing the elephant right away.

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/u/b/i/ubisoft-booth-photo-10240-cinema-6400-640x330-9xgx-8e57c.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/u/b/i/ubisoft-booth-photo-10240-cinema-6400-640x330-9xgx-8e57c.jpg","type":"slide","id":"161277","description":"

Another year and another Ubisoft E3 briefing is at hand! This year will be a little different however because Aisha Tyler will not be hosting. This probably comes as pleasant news to some but a lot of people, myself included, really liked the personality and skill that Tyler brought to the shows.

\n

Ubisoft has a massive E3 ahead with a lot of exciting new titles coming in the near future. Rather than allow several of it's titles to get leaked, Ubisoft wisely announced a few ahead of time and we'll get to those later in the slideshow. The company has several sequels in the pipeline but each of them has more excitement than usual, not to mention a few surprised we believe may be on the way.

\n

But enough beating around the bush, let's get on with the predictions and, with any luck, we'll get more than a few right.

Freemium Pricing Strategies are Ruining AAA Titles https://www.gameskinny.com/aexlh/freemium-pricing-strategies-are-ruining-aaa-titles https://www.gameskinny.com/aexlh/freemium-pricing-strategies-are-ruining-aaa-titles Thu, 01 Jun 2017 16:13:19 -0400 LuckyJorael

Imagine this: you’ve been playing the multiplayer portion of BioWare’s newest sci-fi RPG Mass Effect: Andromeda. You managed to get past all the waves with your three other friends, and the game awards you with credits. You go to the in-game store, and purchase a crate of random consumables, weapons, and characters, because you can’t buy them any other way. You hold your breath, hoping for a Dhan shotgun or an Asari Duelist, because they’re both good, and you want to play with them. But, no. All you get is a lousy Shadow sniper rifle, which still sucks, even after they buffed it last patch.

You could go back to the grind, running Gold-tier missions and buying packs, but there’s another option: spend more real-world money to buy more random packs. You’ve already spent $60 (or more, if you got the special edition) on the game; what’s a few dollars more for a chance at what you really want to play with?

Such is the insidious nature of the “freemium” pricing strategy, where often, the player who pays the most has the best gear.

In many free mobile games – and an increasing number of free PC and console titles – you can play as much as you want until the grind gets to you. Or the game difficulty spikes. Or the PvP aspect of the game sees you getting trounced because other players have better gear. Then, the game’s offering of special currency – gems, crystals, Andromeda Points, steel – looks a whole lot more tempting. Maybe if you only spent $10?

Where before, this type of pricing strategy was reserved to just “freemium” games, it has crept silently into AAA titles like Mass Effect: Andromeda, For Honor, and Overwatch

To be fair, Overwatch’s Loot Boxes only contain cosmetic items: new skins, new voices, dances, and the like. Where Overwatch is different, however, is in its seasonal events. For 21 days last August, Overwatch had its first seasonal event based on the 2016 Olympic Games. Players could earn sports-themed items, but only during the event. Likewise for the Halloween, Winter, Chinese New Year, Uprising, and the current Anniversary event.

Normally, gamers should have no issue with cool new skins for their favorite characters. But the limited time span of events means that if you don’t get the skin or voice that you want in the first couple of weeks of the event, the pressure to spend real money on a digital roulette machine mounts.

D.Va's new skin from Overwatch's Anniversary Event -- Playoverwatch

For Honor’s Scavenger Crates, on the other hand, don’t just contain cosmetic items. Players can customize their armor and weapons with the items found in the Crates to change how they play their class. Each piece of armor – arms, chest, and helm – and weapon part – guard, hilt, and blade – have separate stats that you can adjust with scavenged gear. It’s actually a cool idea, as you can shift around the three stats for each piece to suit your playstyle, but your options when just starting the game are limited.

Want to be able to block more? Find a new chest piece. Want to reduce the stamina cost of attacks? Find a new blade. The problem here is, again, randomization. You’re absolutely not guaranteed to find the armor or weapon upgrade you want, and if you want that upgrade bad enough, there’s always the option to spend upwards of $100 on Steel, For Honor’s in-game currency. And Steel doesn’t just get you more Scavenger Crates; you can purchase new execution animations, emotes, cosmetic options, and even new warriors to play with. The constant pressure to buy Steel is always there, especially if you haven’t gotten what you wanted out of a Scavenger Crate.

The Centurion, one of two new warriors in For Honor -- Ubisoft

Before we get to this article’s worst offender, I want to acknowledge something about gaming in general. The trend in gaming is leaning toward a “games as a service” attitude; almost every game that comes out has a dedicated “live team,” a group of developers, coders, and artists that continue to create new content, patch the game, and push out balance passes. Overwatch has received three new heroes (Ana, Sombra, and Orisa), For Honor gave players the Centurion and Shinobi after its first season of battles, and Mass Effect: Andromeda released three new multiplayer classes (Krogan Gladiator, Salarian Architect, and Turian Agent) and a new weapon (X-5 Ghost).

These content drops cost developers time and money, but here they are, available to anyone who bought the base game. Developers can’t continue to support live teams indefinitely. Sure, they might receive money from the producer, but without more cash coming in from the player base, the live team can’t keep updating the game.

Free updates or not, the worst offender on this list is Mass Effect: Andromeda.  Specifically, it’s multiplayer component. Free from the constraints of balancing individual classes and weapons against each other, as would happen in a PvP game, Andromeda’s co-op multiplayer forces players to grind out wave after wave of enemies to earn MP Credits. Earn enough, and you can buy a Crate of random consumables, weapons, and character ranks. The more money you spend, the higher chance you have of getting an Ultra-Rare weapon or character.

And, in case you’re curious, the Ultra-Rare weapons and characters do have the best stats and abilities in the game. If you want them, you’ll have to buy Premium Crates, which cost 100,000 MP Credits (essentially two games on the hardest difficulty), or 300 Andromeda Points. Spend over $100 in real money, and you can buy 40 Premium Crates, which guarantees 4 Ultra-Rare items (the game has a 1-in-10 guarantee for Ultra-Rares with Premium Crates) and quite a few more rare items.

The Turian Agent, a new multiplayer class in
Mass Effect: Andromeda --MassEffect.com

The real issue here is that characters and weapons are ranked from 1 to 10.  Weapons get more powerful as you rank them up -- by opening more Crates.  Characters have color customization and skill points locked behind ranks as well, meaning their full potential won’t be met, even if you level them up. The only way to get more ranks is to buy more packs. So the Ultra-Rare weapons and classes you so desperately want (because they’re better) turn out to be worse than they should, because you have to unlock more ranks by opening more Crates.

With 5 Ultra-Rare characters and 13 Ultra-Rare weapons, your chances of getting what you want from a Premium Crate -- let alone getting a single character or weapon to rank 10 -- are extremely slim without hundreds of hours of playing ... or hundreds of dollars.

These types of pricing strategies attached to $60 AAA titles are nothing short of exploitative, and in the long run, harmful to the industry; if a developer wants to keep up, they have to adopt the same strategies to continue making money.

Where does this trend end?  Will we start seeing more and more game content locked behind random packs that you have to purchase?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Bad DLC

\n
NO! It's NOT Cheating
\n

DLC is like games in general. Good DLC is so great that it's practically a steal. It might introduce new characters, stories, gameplay scenarios, interesting mechanics, or myriad other enhancements. inFamous 2 and inFamous: Second Son both had very well done stand alone DLC for these reasons.

\n

Bad DLC, however, is $120 a dozen (The stuff is damned expensive!). Stripped features, game breaking gifts, mundane content that makes you say, "This is just more of the worst." And at its worst, it is just downright broken.

\n

Sometimes DLC is sinful not because it breaks immersion or the bank, but because it is just not very good for the exact same reasons that any full game wouldn't be good. Bad DLC is a catch-all for all the DLC that is technically sinful, but not for reasons that specifically relate to the fact that it is DLC.

\n

-----

So what do you think? Are these 5 sins accurate? Or do you not even consider microtransactions to be DLC? What other sins can you think of?

This Wasn't A Problem Earlier

\n
But is Now the Most Pressing Thing in the WORLD
\n

Sometimes DLC just doesn't make much sense. It's not really robbing you of your hard earned cash so much as it is robbing itself of a believable game world.

\n

Prior to purchasing DLC, there was literally NO mention of an AI program that could potentially threaten intelligent life as we know it. But now that I've forked over the money, it is quite the pressing matter.

\n

When this sin occurs, you are often left scratching your head. Either this had been a problem all along and you didn't tell me until I paid you money -- or the act of me paying you money literally caused this problem to happen. Either way, I am failing to see the correlation between my real world decisions and the in-game repercussions.

\n

Really, it's all very strange, if you ask me.

Randomized Packs

\n
So You're Saying you DIDN'T Want Seven of the Same Character?
\n

Mass Effect 3's multiplayer helped popularize the idea that you might gain items through randomized "card" packs (Mass Effect: Andromeda literally calls them cards when you open them.) Of course, this wasn't new or revolutionary; we'd been buying randomized card packs since we started collecting baseball cards as kids. But it was a particularly annoying way to do business in an online marketplace.

\n
\n

"What's that? You want one of those new characters? Too bad. Hopefully, you'll get lucky soon."- Hypothetical Game Developer that DGAF

\n
\n

The business model ends with you getting ridiculous amounts of repetitive, useless fodder while on your way to the top. The reason this model worked well for TCGA was the "T" -- aka trading. This meant that you could use something that you might have an abundance of to trade for something you needed or wanted. Simple supply and demand.

But while many games will allow multiple draws of the same item to net you an incrementally better version of the original item, almost none of them remove said item from the pool of potential draws once you have gotten the best version. It also doesn't make thematic sense. Why does Pathfinder Ryder buy specific gear that he/she wants, but your Apex Strike Team is stuck paying money to some unknown RNG God praying that they get something useful?

\n

Pairing this with microtransactions often feels like the developer is purposefully handicapping their game just to force you to buy card packs.

\n

That's just not cool.

"},{"image":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/v/i/k/viking-action-1920-271176-56ed1.jpg","thumb":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/v/i/k/viking-action-1920-271176-56ed1.jpg","type":"slide","id":"155176","description":"

Multiple Business Models

\n
Choose your Damned Business Model Already!
\n

This one has become a particularly prominent sin as of late. Many developers, specifically AAA devs, have tried to get players to two of the following three when purchasing games:

\n
    \n
  1. Pay $60 up front
  2. \n
  3. Purchase microtransactions
  4. \n
  5. Commit to a subscription model
  6. \n
\n

Manipulative microtransactions can be a real deal breaker when you've already paid $60 for a game. What is particularly egregious about these games is that they compound the burdens of the former sin by boldly asking for money up front and then requiring more money later on for steady progress -- or even the ability to play the game.

\n

There is a caveat, however: we have been buying full-priced games and paying subscription fees for a long time. Millions of people pay $40 for a WoW expansion and then continue to pay the subscription fee every time there's a new WoW expansion. It can be hard to draw the line between legitimate and abusive business models.

Microtransactions

\n
Bankruptcy by 1,000 tiny purchases!
\n

We're all familiar with microtransactions nowadays. They're present in everything from free-to-play games made by indie studios no one has ever heard of to popular AAA releases by major developers, like Ubisoft's For Honor.

\n

Some would argue that microtransactions are always bad, but I disagree. When done properly, there is no need to invest in microtransactions to progress. You only purchase microtransaction items if you genuinely feel like you want to support the developer, especially in F2P titles. Or, you may purchase them because you enjoy the game enough to actually buy some cute little costumes.

\n

Where games really falter with microtransactions is by forcing you to purchase items or currency that is needed to play the game effectively -- or at all. Many games, however, can’t help but leave you feeling as if the in-game currency is not valuable -- like For Honor’s steel. Even worse, there might not be any way to obtain the special currency in-game, thus literally requiring you to invest IRL money in the game.

\n

That is the very worst sin.

"},{"image":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/v/i/d/videogame-dlc-sins-a2f67.jpg","thumb":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/v/i/d/videogame-dlc-sins-a2f67.jpg","type":"slide","id":"155162","description":"

Not all DLC is created equal; some DLC is exceptionally bad. It is these pieces of DLC that hurt everything else in their wake. Consumers are left feeling burnt -- and they're left with emptier wallets or purses. In turn, publishers are left with angry fans. And the whole video game industry is left a little weaker because of the whole debacle.

\n

But there are many identifiable sins or malpractices, if you so wish, that can be easily avoided by developers. So why aren't they addressed by the likes of EA or Ubisoft, for example? Well, that is a different story. Instead of drilling down into that, let's take a look at the 5 DLC sins that hurt the video game industry so you can be better aware of what they are -- and how to address them moving forward.

Fixing Drop Rates in For Honor is Just a Band-Aid That Won't Stop It from Bleeding Out https://www.gameskinny.com/lbyj8/fixing-drop-rates-in-for-honor-is-just-a-band-aid-that-wont-stop-it-from-bleeding-out https://www.gameskinny.com/lbyj8/fixing-drop-rates-in-for-honor-is-just-a-band-aid-that-wont-stop-it-from-bleeding-out Tue, 04 Apr 2017 16:00:02 -0400 Dan Roemer

For Honor is fighting an uphill battle and still very much struggling to remain relevant to its own player base. Whether it's from severe connection issues that have plagued the game since before its launch, thanks in part to Ubisoft's bizarre and terrible P2P netcode which has lead to connectivity and NAT region issues -- to Ubisoft then responding to these issues with nothing but silence -- until only recently.

Which in turn caused their own community to schedule a blackout event in which they would stop playing, simply just to get the attention of the developer.

For Honor, Ubisoft, Meme

Since For Honor's launch back in February, positive user reviews on Steam have dropped down to 37% and the negativity and anger of the community isn't calming down any time soon. In that time the developer had attempted to appease the playerbase by attempting to fix drop rates within the game itself in the latest patch... but in my opinion:

It's Ubisoft Putting a Band-Aid on a Fatal Wound

In a Warrior's Den Weekly Livestream on March 21st -- Developer Damien Kieken responded to concerns from the community; including the topic of the drop rate. Notably he had this to say:

“We never had an intention for you to unlock everything in the game.”

Later also mentioned:

“It's like in an RPG -- let's say World of Warcraft, you would never try to unlock everything for all the characters of the whole game. It's the same thing in any MOBA, you're not trying to unlock all the content for all the heroes in your game."

In my opinion I think the developers never imagining someone trying to unlock everything for their characters in For Honor is extremely naive -- but I also believe it's bullshit. I don't believe for a second Ubisoft didn't purposely structure the drop rate for gear and loot in For Honor to be intentionally difficult, it's beyond obvious it was implemented this way from the start to drive players to purchase steel and in turn -- make the developer and publisher lots of money. Which is interesting considering this a full priced $60 game, and yet Ubisoft are utilising a pay structure for cosmetics found within most free-to-play games...

The Ubisoft 2017 Financial Strategy

In fact, the likelihood of a casual player (who maybe only plays a few hours day) unlocking everything for their character is almost impossible, as pointed out by Reddit user bystander007 -- The average hero would require around 91500 steel to unlock every base game unlockable -- excluding upcoming updates and DLC, if you then multiply by that 12 for every character in For Honor, you get a little over a million steel. This is valued at over $700 (on top of the charge of $60-100 for the game itself) to unlock everything.

If you were to attempt to grind this instead -- Reddit user bystander007 estimates this would take anywhere from 326 to 915 days depending on how much you played... but by that point I'm sure we'll already have For Honor 2.

For Honor, Knight

The irony being even if you decided to try and grind for two and a half years, you'll still have to deal with Ubisoft's horrible netcode and the plenty of issues that have already crippled -- or in my opinion fatally wounded this game. Fixes like this aren't going to solve the big issues at hand long term. The Ubisoft medical staff are so incompetent they've placed a band-aid in the form of this “fix” on For Honor which is already bleeding out. While it continues to do so -- stay tuned to GameSkinny for everything For Honor...

While it lasts.

For Honor Can't Maintain a Playerbase with Its Prevalent Connection Problems https://www.gameskinny.com/phii7/for-honor-cant-maintain-a-playerbase-with-its-prevalent-connection-problems https://www.gameskinny.com/phii7/for-honor-cant-maintain-a-playerbase-with-its-prevalent-connection-problems Sun, 02 Apr 2017 15:30:01 -0400 Dan Roemer

For Honor launched back in February and a friend of mine perfectly described it as a “casual filter." Why? Because most people go into For Honor thinking it'll be another pickup and play online game, without much mastery required. But within minutes of starting their first match, their heads are rolling off their character's shoulders as you taunt their corpse.

However, it seems that the fun is coming to an abrupt end thanks in part to severe connection issues that have plagued the game from the start, as well as a dwindling player base.

Only two weeks after release, For Honor's player base dropped by more than 50% on Steam, which is alarming considering at launch it broke Steam's top ten most played games with nearly 46,000 players on day one. Since then, that player count has dropped to below 15,000 on average -- and if this pace keeps up, For Honor will be a ghost town before all the DLC can even be released.

The Ire of a Community Over Silence

To make matters even worse, developer Ubisoft Montreal -- until recently -- were completely silent with their community over these issues. In response, the community only grew angrier and notably much louder about the issue.

Stickied right on the front page of the For Honor subreddit is a list of community solutions to glaring issues -- and you can already guess what is at the number one spot: disconnection issues. Shortly after this thread went up and was stickied, the For Honor Twitter page made an announcement they'll be streaming and potentially addressing issues. However, the stream was then canceled at the last minute.

As you can only imagine, the community lost their collective shit and the anger expressed by the community has reached a boiling point. So much so they've even begun an “Official For Honor Blackout Community Event” – set for April 3, in which the subreddit plan on not playing the game to further reduce the player count.

Days after this announcement from the community, the For Honor Twitter page went full blast,m announcing they'll be giving weekly updates straight from the For Honor team. Whether or not this will help with long-term community management, we'll have to wait and see what they have to say on these matters.

The Ship has Sailed; or in This Case, has Already Sunk

Personally, I don't see the game recovering from this anytime soon, and try as they might, For Honor, in my opinion, will be dead by the end of this year. Why? Simply because the way Ubisoft structured the online component was baffling, dumb, flawed, and doomed from the start. Don't get me wrong: I'd love to be proven wrong here, but I think For Honor has no chance in hell at this point.

As explained in the Community Solutions Thread on the For Honor subreddit, this wasn't a random issue that just appeared suddenly over night. Instead, people have been experiencing disconnection issues since the closed alpha, closed beta, and open beta -- well, basically the whole time the game has been a game. And despite people reporting on these issues in each of these tests, seemingly nothing was done from the developer to address the issue.

The issue itself seems to lie within the game's sloppy net-code, and considering the game has already launched and has dwindling numbers as is, don't be surprised if Ubisoft quietly just end up not supporting it further. Pulling it aside and taking it offline for days -- or even weeks -- to correct the net-code or even set up dedicated servers would take up time and money they don't have.

Remember: This is the same company that let the license expire for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and then ended up taking it down from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live without any warning. Quietly stopping support for something is what Ubisoft has done time and time again.

Also, keep in mind this is only the tip of the iceberg for issues surrounding For Honor -- the game still suffers from NAT region locking, security concerns regarding game clients seeing the IP addresses of other players, lag switch abuse, balancing issues, micro-transactions, and how steel is distributed.

All in all, For Honor has a lot of things to fix. And so far, the community has been fairly patient with Ubisoft, considering the amount of issues affecting the game. But as their patience begins to wear off, support of For Honor, from both the community and Ubisoft, looks to be dwindling ... Fast.

Amazons
\n

Since For Honor isn't particularly bothered about historical chronology, we'd surmise that it probably doesn't care a great deal about historical accuracy either. With that in mind, why not introduce the Amazons?

\n

They're the greatest tribe of warrior women who never lived, a myth founded on tales of Scythian females buried with weapons which potentially influenced Greek legends, and then perpetuated to the present day. There's no actual evidence they existed, as much as Xena: Warrior Princess would try and convince you otherwise.

\n

But if they had, wouldn't it be great to see an all-female faction in For Honor, showing the testosterone-heavy title how fighting should be done?

As far as warriors go, none have been more successful at conquering the world than the Mongols. They controlled more territory and have won more battles than any other faction in the history of civilization. They also defeated Russia in winter, a feat that could have changed history had it been repeated by the Germans in World War 2.

\n

But they were also a truly organized war machine with incredible martial acumen, and not just the barbaric horsemen they're often portrayed as. They'd definitely give the Vikings a run for their money in the landscape of For Honor.

You can't really have the Spartans in a game without including the Persian Immortals. Despite wearing their nicest leather underwear -- if you believe the film -- the 300 Spartans were battered by Xerxes' army, and the victors would therefore be prime For Honor material if both factions were introduced at the same time.

Wielding swords and spears and wearing scale mail, members of the Achaemenid would certainly be able to hold their own against others in Ubisoft's hack 'em up.

Hollywood and the small screen may have glamorized them, but in reality they were a disciplined, regimented lot and would be more than capable of holding their own against the likes of crude Vikings and ponderous Knights. Perfect fodder, in other words, for inclusion in For Honor.

History should never get in the way of a good game. At least, that seems to be the mantra Ubisoft live by in For Honor, a game which mixes Samurai, Vikings and medieval Knights. These three disparate bands who -- at least according to the written word -- never met in combat at the same time.

\n

But why stop there? There are plenty of warrior factions that can be plucked from the annals of history in order to create new classes. As For Honor expands -- and it will need to, in order to keep gamers coming back for more -- Ubisoft will need to consider adding more playable factions beyond the initial three.

\n

To give them a helping hand, we've put together some suggestions.

For Honor Guide: Peacekeeper Info and Tips https://www.gameskinny.com/hue2o/for-honor-guide-peacekeeper-info-and-tips https://www.gameskinny.com/hue2o/for-honor-guide-peacekeeper-info-and-tips Tue, 28 Feb 2017 12:32:19 -0500 Synzer

The Peacekeeper is a dual-wielding Assassin for the Knights in For Honor. She uses a sword and dagger, and has multiple bleeds she can apply to the enemy -- similar to the Samurai's Nobushi. Peacekeepers are fast fighters that work best by applying pressure to the enemy with quick stabs, then backing off.

Peacekeepers were also recently buffed, mostly to fix a bug with one of their attacks, but this is sure to cause more people to try them out. I'll go over how to play this character to give you an advantage over other Peacekeepers that may not know exactly how they work.

If you want general help with the game and other Hero guides, check out my For Honor Beginner Tips and Tricks.

This guide will go everything you need to know about the Peacekeeper in For Honor, including:

  • Peacekeeper Basics - Specific mechanics the Peacekeeper uses, as well as her moves
  • Peacekeeper Gear - Suggested stats to shoot for when equipping gear
  • Peacekeeper Tips - Extra tips for playing this hero at a higher level

Peacekeeper Basics

for honor peacekeeper moves

Moves
  • Twisting Blades - Light Attack, Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Dervish Strikes - Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Sword Dance - Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Slipping Lunge - Press Guardbreak while Sprinting
  • Deep Gouge - Heavy Attack, Light Attack
    • The first hit must connect to do the second hit.
    • The second hit causes the opponent to Bleed for additional damage.
  • Dashing Thrust - Dodge forward, Heavy Attack
  • Sidestep Strike - Dodge to the side, Heavy Attack
  • Stab - Guardbreak, up to 3 Light Attacks
    • In order to hit more than once, you must time each stab as soon as you hit the enemy.
  • Riposting Stab - Deflect, Light Attack
Specific Mechanics
  • Earn more Renown in 1v1 fights, killing enemy Heroes, and getting killing streaks.
  • Defense: Reflex - Guard Stance only remains active for a short time.
  • Deflect - Dodge in the direction of an incoming Attack just before impact to Deflect it.
  • Dagger Cancel - Cancel any Heavy Attack startup with a Light Attack.
    • This causes a Bleed.

Peacekeeper Gear

for honor peacekeeper gear

Peacekeepers are assassins, so they definitely benefit from offensive stats like Attack and Revenge mode Attack. I would choose those over things like Defense, and just try to kill the enemy quickly.

  • Weapon Part 1 - Attack followed by Defense.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Mode Gain by Defense and Revenge Mode Defense.
    • Feat Cooldown is not a bad idea either to get things like the Catapult earlier.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Revenge Mode Attack
  • Helm - I would go with Revenge Mode Duration, followed by Exhaustion Recovery.
    • If you have problems with Bleeds and other Debuffs, try Debuff Resistance.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen is fantastic, especially for Assassins, but Sprint Speed can also be helpful to catch people that run away -- like Orochi.
  • Arms - Block Damage Resistance or Stamina Regen

Other Peacekeeper Tips

for honor peacekeeper combat

Learn the Art of the Bleed

Peacekeepers are not quite on the level of Nobushi, but they can cause Bleeds just as easily. The go-to is the Guardbreak into 3 quick stabs. Each of these stabs now cause Bleed and stack like they were supposed to, so they are even better now.

The Dagger cancel and stab after deflect is really helpful as well.

Practice Defense

You may be an assassin, but sometimes you can't just go all stabby stabby. Learning when to Parry and Block can let you survive long enough to get Revenge Mode and take out a hard-to-kill enemy.

Getting good at Deflect will also let you apply more pressure and Bleeds to the enemy. This can slowly take down an enemy, even if you can't go on the offensive.

Those are all the tips I have for playing Berserker in For Honor. Let me know if you have any tips of your own, or questions about anything else!

The Berserker is a fast-paced, aggressive Assassin for the Vikings faction in For Honor. They use twin axes and have infinite combos and uninterruptible attacks. Being assassin, means they can also Deflect by dodging into the direction of an attack.

This character relies on keeping the opponent off-balance by switching up attack patterns and constantly applying pressure. This is not a character for those that want to take things slow and steady. It takes some practice, but mastering the berserker will make any opponent fear you.

  • Deflect - Dodge in the direction of an incoming Attack just before impact to Deflect it.
    • Berserkers automatically Guardbreak after a Deflect.
  • Infinite Uninterruptible Chain - When you perform 4 or more chain attacks, your Attacks become uninterruptible and cost less stamina.
  • Infinite Chain Finisher - A Top Heavy Attack will always end an infinite chain. It also inflicts extra damage.
  • Chain Starter - Dodge attacks can initiate chain attacks.
  • Close Combat - Missing an attack, doing a chain, or doing a Head Crusher can be canceled by a Zone Attack or dodge.
  • Cancel Attacks - You can cancel the startup of your basic attacks by dodging.

Berserker Gear

These characters are very aggressive attackers, so they benefit from offensive stats like Attack and Revenge Mode Attack.

  • Weapon Part 1 - Attack followed by Defense.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Mode Gain by Defense and Revenge Mode Defense.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Revenge Mode Attack
  • Helm - I would go with Revenge Mode Duration, followed by Exhaustion Recovery.
    • If you have problems with Bleeds and other Debuffs, try Debuff Resistance.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen is always great, but I also like Sprint Speed for this character so enemies can't escape you.
  • Arms - Block Damage Resistance or Stamina Regen

Other Berserker Tips

for honor berserker combat

Practice the Infinite Combo

The infinite combo is just alternating Light and Heavy Attack and can be started with either. Make sure to change directions periodically to keep your opponent off-balance.

Master Uninterruptible Usage

The Berserker's combos become uninterruptible after 4 attacks, even if they block. So use this to your advantage. They also have 3 attacks -- Spin Chop, Head Crusher, and Slashing Rush -- that are uninterruptible.

Use Dodge Attacks and Feints

Dodge attacks can start chain attacks, which leads into infinite and uninterruptible combos. You can also dodge to cancel the startup of your basic attacks, which is a Feint. Doing these things make your character even more unpredictable and aggressive.

Be Prepared for Parries

Good players know that you can parry unblockable and uninterruptible attacks, so this might happen when you use any of these moves. Prepare in advance for your attack to be parried so you can go on the defensive if needed.

Those are all the tips I have for playing Berserker in For Honor. Let me know if you have any tips of your own, or questions about anything else!

For Honor Guide: Warden Info and Tips https://www.gameskinny.com/dhi6i/for-honor-guide-warden-info-and-tips https://www.gameskinny.com/dhi6i/for-honor-guide-warden-info-and-tips Wed, 22 Feb 2017 10:37:44 -0500 Synzer

Warden is a basic, yet powerful, Vanguard character for the Knights in For Honor. It has an unblockable Shoulder Bash and uses a longsword to dispatch foes with quick attacks.

Playing this character well requires a good grasp of the game's basic mechanics, and it's a good place to start if you are new to the game. Don't let the simple nature fool you though -- this hero is a force to be reckoned with in the hands of a good player.

If you want general help with the game and other Hero guides, check out my For Honor Beginner Tips and Tricks.

This guide will go everything you need to know about the Warden in For Honor, including:

  • Warden Basics - Specific mechanics the Warden uses, as well as their moves
  • Warden Gear - Suggested stats to shoot for when equipping gear
  • Warden Tips - Extra tips for playing this hero at a higher level

Warden Basics

for honor warden guide

Moves
  • Vanguard's Advance - Light Attack, Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Guardian's Assault - Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Warden's Wrath - Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Rushing Slash - Press Heavy Attack while sprinting
  • Crushing Counterstrike - Press Light Attack while sprinting
    • This has Superior Block, which means it will interrupt Light and Heavy Attacks.
  • Shoulder Bash - Dodge in any direction, then hold Guardbreak
  • Shoulder Bash Mix Up - Light Attack, Guardbreak, Light Attack
    • Guardbreak must be successful to do the last Light Attack.
Specific Mechanics
  • Earn more Renown in outnumbered fights, controlling objectives, and by killing enemy soldiers.
  • Light Attack Combo - Second Side Light Attack is guaranteed to hit if the first one hits.
  • Crushing Counterstrike - Top Light Attacks have Superior Block during startup. It becomes unblockable after a counter.

Warden Gear

for honor warden gear stats

The Warden is an all-around good character, so most stats are good to use. I still prefer Attack and more offensive stats overall. You can still afford a more defensive approach for certain stats.

  • Weapon Part 1 - All 3 are useful for Warden, but I prefer Attack over the others.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Mode Gain by Defense and Revenge Mode Defense.
    • Feat Cooldown can also be useful, especially for the immunity to Bleed attacks when fighting Peacekeepers and Nobushis.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Either Revenge Mode Attack or Revenge Gain By Injury.
    • I typically don't suggest Throw Distance.
  • Helm - Revenge Mode Duration, followed by Exhaustion Recovery.
    • There is a feat to save you from Bleed damage, but it doesn't work on other debuffs.
    • This should be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to use Debuff Resistance.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen, followed by Block Damage.
    • Sprint Speed can be very helpful when chasing down escaping enemies, or getting to points faster.
  • Arms - Block Damage Resistance, followed by Stamina Regen.

Other Warden Tips

for honor warden combat

Master the Basics

The Warden is a very straightforward character, with only a couple of tricks. Learning the basic mechanics of the game and using them correctly will make this character shine.

Practice Shoulder Bash

One of the Warden's biggest strengths in the Shoulder Bash. This is an unblockable push back, so the enemy cannot parry like normal unblockable attacks.

This can set your opponents up for other combos and moves to give you the advantage. It is also great for pushing enemies off edges when either surrounded or low on health.

Remember the Superior Block Top Light Attacks

Knowing when you can counter the enemy with Top Light Attacks will make you a great Warden player and make an opening for other unblockable attacks. Don't forget you can also do this while sprinting, so you can catch your opponent off-guard.

Those are all the tips I have for the Warden in For Honor. Let me know if you have any extra tips or need help with anything else!

For Honor Guide: Nobushi Info and Tips https://www.gameskinny.com/ttbc3/for-honor-guide-nobushi-info-and-tips https://www.gameskinny.com/ttbc3/for-honor-guide-nobushi-info-and-tips Wed, 22 Feb 2017 16:27:09 -0500 Synzer

Nobushi is a slippery Hybrid character for the Samurai faction in For Honor. She uses a Naginata, which is a long staff with a curved blade at the end. Nobushi has the longest range of any character in the game, and keeps opponents under pressure with her myriad of bleeds.

She has the lowest health in the game, so she can die pretty fast if you aren't careful. Luckily, she has a few tricks to keep out of harms way, and several ways to cancel attacks to keep the enemy guessing. I'm going to explain how to best use the Samurai's snake.

If you want general help with the game and other Hero guides, check out my For Honor Beginner Tips and Tricks.

This guide will go everything you need to know about the Nobushi in For Honor, including:

  • Nobushi Basics - Specific mechanics the Nobushi uses, as well as her moves
  • Nobushi Gear - Suggested stats to shoot for when equipping gear
  • Nobushi Tips - Extra tips for playing this hero at a higher level

Nobushi Basics

for honor nobushi moves

Moves
  • Poke the Nest - Light Attack, Light Attack, Light Attack
    • This move causes the enemy to Bleed for additional damage.
  • Hiss and Bite - Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Death Rattle Form - Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Slithering Thrust - Press Light Attack while sprinting
    • This causes Bleed.
  • Coiling Slash - Press Heavy Attack while sprinting
  • Hidden Stance - Hold down on the Guard direction
  • Cobra Strike - Dodge in any direction and press Light Attack
    • This causes Bleed.
  • Cobra Strike Mix Up - Guardbreak throw, Light Attack
    • This causes Bleed.
  • Viper's Retreat - Down on the movement direction and Light Attack
    • This causes Bleed.
  • Kick - Guardbreak after an attack
  • Sidewinder Form - Dodge left or right and press Heavy Attack
  • Swift Recoil - Block an attack, then dodge
Specific Mechanics
  • This character earns balanced Renown across all activities.
  • Way of the Shark - Deal extra damage when hitting opponents already affected by Bleed.
  • Hidden Stance - Startup has a Dodge property. Basic attacks startup can be cancelled into Hidden Stance.
    • Hidden Stance can be followed by Attack, Kick, or Dodge.
  • Cancel Attack Recovery - Attacks can be followed by Hidden Stance, Viper's Retreat, or Kick. Kicks can be followed by Hidden Stance or Cobra Strike.
  • Light Attack Combo - Third chained Light Attack is guaranteed to hit if the second hit is successful.
  • Side Slashes - Hit at the opposite direction of the way you dodge. Side Slashes can be followed by Hidden Stance, Viper's retreat, Kick, or Dodge.

Nobushi Gear

for honor nobushi gear stats

This character already has low health, so she works well as a glass cannon. Raise Attack and Stamina stats whenever you can.

  • Weapon Part 1 - Attack followed by Stamina Cost Reduction.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Mode Gain by Defense and Revenge Mode Defense.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Revenge Mode Attack
  • Helm - This depends on who you fight. Normally I would go with Revenge Mode Duration, but if fighting other Nobushis or Heroes with Bleed, take Debuff Resistance.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen, followed by Block Damage.
  • Arms - All stats are useful, so this one is up to you.
    • Revive speed can make reviving nearly instant, especially if you have the Revive Speed feat.
    • You can also replace the Revive Speed feat if you raise this stat enough.

Other Nobushi Tips

for honor nobushi guide

Master Hidden Stance

Nobushi's Hidden Stance is extremely helpful. It can let you escape certain attacks, then come back with a counter. It also lets you start in the middle of chains, or do the kick to catch your opponent off guard. Mastering this will put you above most average Nobushi players.

Always have a Bleed on the enemy

Nobushi's biggest strength is making the enemy Bleed. Applying constant pressure will take any opponent down -- no matter how strong. It may take a while, and you may not get to execute, but it better than dying. Plus, you deal more damage when the opponent is Bleeding, so always keep one on.

Practice Kicks and Viper's Retreat

These are great moves that you can do after most attacks. Kicks knock opponents back and can go right into a bleed attack, Cobra Strike. Viper's Retreat has the added benefit of backing up and putting you out of harm's way.

Those are all the tips I have for playing Nobushi in For Honor. Let me know if you have any tips of your own, or questions about anything else!

For Honor Guide: Shugoki Info and Tips https://www.gameskinny.com/0lhsm/for-honor-guide-shugoki-info-and-tips https://www.gameskinny.com/0lhsm/for-honor-guide-shugoki-info-and-tips Mon, 20 Feb 2017 18:18:04 -0500 Synzer

Shugoki is the hard-hitting Heavy character for the Samurai faction in For Honor. He attacks with a giant spiked club, and has a passive uninterruptible stance -- which lets him get a free attack off even if being hit.

He attacks very slowly and moves even slower, but his massive attack makes up for it. Even though he is listed as Easy because of his powerful attack and simple moves, playing him well is pretty difficult. I'm going to help by explaining how to best use the Saumrai's muscle.

If you want general help with the game and other Hero guides, check out my For Honor Beginner Tips and Tricks.

This guide will go everything you need to know about the Shugoki in For Honor, including:

  • Shugoki Basics - Specific mechanics the Shugoki uses, as well as his moves
  • Shugoki Gear - Suggested stats to shoot for when equipping gear
  • Shugoki Tips - Extra tips for playing this hero at a higher level

Shugoki Basics

for honor shugoki basics

Moves
  • Charging Heavy Attack - Hold Heavy Attack
    • This charges the attack to make it hit even harder. Great for when you have uninterruptible stance.
  • Bash and Smash - Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Bone Crusher - Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Crashing Thunder - Press Heavy Attack while sprinting
  • Charge of the Oni - Press Dodge while sprinting
  • Demon's Embrace - Down+Guardbreak
  • Demon Ball - Guardbreak, Heavy Attack
  • Headbutt - Light or Heavy Attack, Guardbreak
Specific Mechanics
  • Earn more Renown by assisting or saving heroes, and defending objectives to unlock your feats in a match.
  • Passive Uninterruptible Stance that lets you attack even when getting hit.
    • This is consumed whenever you get hit or Guardbroken, but will recover after a short time.
    • You take more damage while this stance is recharging.
  • Light Attacks are not interrupted on block, but are interrupted by Superrior Block.
  • Demon's Embrace will recover health when you succeed, but lose some if you miss.
    • This move will always kill an opponent when Shugoki is in a Critical health State.

Shugoki Gear

For honor shugoki gear stats

Shugoki hits hard and has a lot of health, but you will be taking damage a lot when using the uninterruptible stance -- so investing in Defense is a good idea.

  • Weapon Part 1 - All 3 are useful for Shugoki, but I prefer Defense over the others.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Mode Gain by Defense and Revenge Mode Defense.
    • Feat Cooldown can also be useful for getting certain passive feats, but I would still primarily raise one of the other 2.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Another stat where all 3 are useful for this hero. I suggest either Revenge Mode Attack or Revenge Gain by Injury.
  • Helm - Exhaustion Recovery is most important since Shugoki has an even bigger disadvantage in Exhaustion.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen, followed by Block Damage.
  • Arms - Stamina Regen or Block Damage Resistance.

Other Shugoki Tips

for honor shugoki combat

Learn how your Uninterruptible Stance Works

This is a huge part of Shugoki's playstyle and will mean the difference between a good and bad player. Learn which attacks you can safely shrug off to go into your attack, and which you should block or parry instead.

Also, be sure to go on the defensive when you are recovering your Stance. You take more damage without it, so don't get hasty.

Master Demon's Embrace

This is a big risk, but great reward move at low critical health. You can come back from losing with an instant kill, but if you don't learn the distance and when it is safe -- you will die quickly.

It is also great when playing team games, or when someone is blocking since it is an unblockable grab. It is safer to use when your opponent has their back to something.

Don't be afraid to Demon Ball your way to Victory

Demon Ball is one of, if the longest, knockbacks in the game. It also has the added benefit of dealing decent damage, so keeping this in your rotation can make victory come more easily.

That's all of the For Honor Shugoki tips I have for you. Let me know if you have any questions or tips of your own!

For Honor Guide: Lawbringer Info and Tips https://www.gameskinny.com/40boc/for-honor-guide-lawbringer-info-and-tips https://www.gameskinny.com/40boc/for-honor-guide-lawbringer-info-and-tips Sat, 18 Feb 2017 13:31:09 -0500 Synzer

The Lawbringer is a giant ironclad knight in For Honor that dispenses justice with his huge poleaxe. He is a hybrid character that is a mix of the Vanguard and Heavy heroes, and he specializes in parries.

The Lawbringer is also a slow attacker and is hard to get used to, but he is not a bad character when you get the hang of him. I'm here to explain just how he plays, and to give you tips on how better use this brawny hero in For Honor.

If you want general help with the game and other Hero guides, check out my For Honor Beginner Tips and Tricks.

This guide will go everything you need to know about the Lawbringer in For Honor, including:

  • Lawbringer Basics - Specific mechanics the Lawbringer uses, as well as his moves
  • Lawbringer Gear - Suggested stats to shoot for when equipping gear
  • Lawbringer Tips - Extra tips for playing this hero at a higher level

Lawbringer Basics

for honor lawbringer moves

Moves
  • Book, Chapter, and Verse - Light Attack, Heavy Attack, Light Attack
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner - Light Attack, Heavy Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Swift Justice - Heavy Attack, Light Attack, Heavy Attack
  • Swift Justice Finisher - Heavy Attack, Light, Up+Heavy Attack, Light Attack
    • The Up+Heavy Attack must successfully hit to be able to do the last Light Attack.
  • Impaling Charge - Heavy Attack while sprinting
  • Impaling Riposte - Parry, then either left or right and Heavy Attack
  • Blind Justice - Parry, then Up+Heavy Attack
  • Light Riposte - Parry, then Light Attack
  • Make Way - Parry, then Light+Heavy Attack
  • The Long Arm - Down+Guardbreak
  • Shove - Dodge in any direction, then Guardbreak
  • Shove Alternate - Block an attack, then Guardbreak
  • Shove Mix Up - Heavy Attack, Guardbreak
    • Heavy Attack must be successful to go into the Guardbreak.
Specific Mechanics
  • Balanced Renown across all activities
  • Top Heavy Attacks stun opponents.
  • Stunned opponent can't see your guard.
  • Shove initiates chains and combos.

Lawbringer Gear

For Honor Lawbringer gear

The Lawbringer is all about parrying, so Block Damage and Resistance are not that important. Attack and defense are equally good, but I prefer Attack.

  • Weapon Part 1 - Attack or Defense work, so it depends on who you fight
    • He is part Heavy, so getting more Defense could be a better option if that is your playstyle. He is slower and harder to attack with, so I like Attack to make each hit count.
  • Weapon Part 2 - Revenge Gain by Defense or Revenge Mode Defense.
    • Parry counts as Defense, so either of these is great. I prefer Revenge Gain by Defense.
  • Weapon Part 3 - Revenge Mode Attack or Throw Distance

  • Helm - Exhaustion Recovery
    • Lawbringer can lose all stamina and go into Exhaustion pretty fast, so I like using this stat. If you have no problem, go with Revenge Mode Duration.
  • Arms - Stamina Regen or Revive Speed
    • Lawbringer has a feat where his revives are protected, which means enemies can't stop him from reviving. Increasing the speed of revive will make this even better.
  • Chest - Execution Health Regen or Sprint Speed to catch runners

Other Lawbringer Tips

for honor lawbringer combat

Parry, Parry, Parry

A big part of the Lawbringer is parrying attacks into other attacks. This sets you up for multiple attacks and can knock people down for a free attack if they lose their stamina when you Parry.

Shove is a great tool

Another Lawbringer specialty is Shove. This is an unblockable push back, so it is great when the enemy guardbreaks. You can also start combos and do them right after a block, so it gives you a lot of opening to attack the enemy.

Utilize The Long Arm

This attack will lift the opponent and toss them right behind you. This can be used to throw people off cliffs when they attempt to do so to you, or get better positioning for an attack. It also has the added bonus of looking pretty cool.
