Hardspace: Shipbreaker Halloween: Haunted Frontier

\n

Hardspace: Shipbreaker's Halloween event is Haunted Frontier, full of spooky haunted ships that put your bravery — and desire for salvage — to the test.

\n

The update, which is live now on Steam, turns any ship into a potential ghost ship. Things start deteriorating as you gather materials and fend off rogue AI nodes. Lights flicker on and off. Air gets sucked out of the room. And somewhere deep in the ship, unsettling sounds can be heard...

\n

Should you make it out alive, you can show off your hard-earned rewards with new stickers and badges.

The freighters are full of new treats and a security system gone haywire.

\n

King Midas is back from the great beyond in Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2020 event from now until November 3, and he's giving you the chance to wreak havoc on friend and foe alike.

When you're eliminated in a Solo, Duos or Squads match, you get the chance to return as a Shadow in Nitemare Royal. Attack surviving players from the shadows and even possess vehicles to bring their game to an end.

That's the trick side of things, but the island has plenty of treats in store too. You can get your hands on the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher, Fiend Hunter Crossbow, a special Midas invention, and of course, candy.

\n

There's a suite of Fortnitemares challenges where you can unlock costumes and weapon skins such as the Smash-O'-Lantern Pickaxe and Midas' Shadow Wrap.

PUBG Mobile Infection Mode

\n

PUBG Mobile's Infection Mode is back from the dead from now until November 9, with new content, themes, costumes, and plenty of zombies.

\n

Infection Mode's classic combat returns, pitting a team of Defenders against a team of Zombies in an all-or-nothing fight. Zombies — sporting Halloween masks, if you so choose —  can only use melee attacks, but fallen Defenders transform into Zombies with chances for form shifts and stat buffs.

\n

If it all gets too much for the Defenders, they transform into Vanquishers when their team is down to three members. Foes they vanquish can't be resurrected.

\n

These hellish fights unfold across maps decked out with pumpkins, gravestones, and other seasonal paraphernalia. More costumes and decorations are planned before the end of the event.

Ghost-type Pokemon will be more common in the wild, in Raids, and in Eggs. You might even find a costumed Gengar in Raids or hatch a Sableye in costume if you're lucky.

\n

If this is your first time taking part, you'll need to complete "The Witchmother's Bargain" quest from the Crown Store and earn the Witchmother's Whistle item. If you already have it, just select it from your collections to get started.

\n

Using the Whistle kicks off a two-hour period of bonus XP, but there's a lot more.

\n

Players can earn new mementos, furnishings, and Dremora and Hollowjack-themed items through Plunder Skulls earned in battle.

\n

Bosses drop Dremora Plunder Skulls with extra goods, including treasure maps and pages for the Grave Digger weapon style.

\n

There's the final evolution of the Indrik, a costume gala, grab bags, deals, and more. Check out the full details on the ESO event site.

Overcooked! 2  Moon Harvest Festival

\n

Overcooked! 2's Halloween celebration isn't technically Halloween-themed. It's in honor of harvest and autumn celebrations throughout eastern Asia, but it's fall-ish, so it works.

\n

Better yet, it's a free update with no end time, and the content will appear in Overcooked! All You Can Eat for next-gen consoles.

\n

Overcooked! 2's Moon Harvest Festival introduces new kitchens themed around water and lily pad obstacles. There are five new levels total, plus three succulent-looking mooncakes to add to the menu.

Borderlands 3 Halloween — Bloody Harvest Returns

\n

Borderlands 3's Bloody Harvest Halloween event is back for October 2020. The ghoulish festivities run through November 5, and it's easier than ever to get your hands on some sweet, ghastly gear.

\n

To kick things off, head to Sanctuary III, and speak with Maurice. Maurice tasks you with collecting Hecktoplasm from haunted enemies, easily spotted by their ghostly green glow.

\n

Defeating haunted enemies spawns specters you'll need to defeat as well, and that's when you finally get ahold of Hecktoplasm.

\n

After collecting enough of Hecktoplasm, Maurice opens the gate to Heck, where you can chat with Captain Haunt to access a number of quests, through which you'll earn Bloody Harvest items and cosmetics.

\n

This year, the Bloody Harvest quests are less demanding than before, making it easier to get loot.

\n
    \n
  • 4 challenges completed  “A Shrinking Feeling" weapon trinket
  • \n
  • 8 challenges completed  "Message from Beyond" ECHO Device skin
  • \n
  • 12 challenges completed  "Haunted Look" shared Vault Hunter skin
  • \n
  • 15 challenges completed  "Porphyrophobia" weapon skin

    \n

  • \n
  • Warlock — Daywalker (vampire) Set
  • \n
  • Titan — Promethean Set
  • \n
\n

On the official Festival of the Lost blog post, Bungie provided more information on the Halloween event. The Spider is a new NPC that gives players Cipher Decoders that unlock special chests at the end of The Haunted Forest. The chests are worth pursuing because they contain Legendary items specific to the Festival of the Lost.

\n

Rounding things out, there are new Sparrow skins available, as well as festival masks and vanity items for various armor sets, including broomsticks and witch hats.

Resident Evil Resistance October Update

\n

Resident Evil Resistance has a big October update in store, which is basically a Halloween update without actually being called a Halloween update.

\n

Jill Valentine joins the ranks of the Survivors, with powerful weapons and her characteristic dodge mechanic from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake. And as is only fitting, Nemesis itself is a playable Mastermind for the first time. Players control Nemesis through playing as Nicholai, another new Mastermind.

\n

The Prison is a new map added in RE Resistance's October update, and the Uptown Raccoon City and Bemusement Park maps get a remix with new layouts.

\n

Finally is a slew of new costumes and weapon skins, Survivors' perks and customizable abilities, and Mastermind traps.

Grounded October Update

\n

Grounded’s October update adds ziplines and more to the survival game, including some Halloween-themed items. The initial announcement is relatively light on details, but players can expect decorations, recreational items, and doodads to use with friends. These include harvestable Candy Corn and a new landmark in the Frankenline, which is described as "a creepy discarded Etch-a-Sketch you can actually draw on."

\n

Aside from washing The Backyard in a spooky glow, the October update for Grounded does a lot on the backend as well, including fixing a handful of bugs, fine-tuning combat, and unlocking new perks. You can see the full patch notes here

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath  All Hallows' Eve

\n

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath is getting some Halloween goodness with the All Hallows’ Eve character skin pack. It’s available now and is free for Aftermath owners. Those who haven’t upgraded to Aftermath yet would need to purchase the expansion, which also unlocks the Summer Heat and Femme Fatale packs from earlier in 2020.

\n

Mortal Kombat 11’s All Hallows’ Eve skin pack trailer highlighted three of the included skins. One is the “Blizzard King” outfit for Sub-Zero, and then there’s the part-werewolf part-school spirit “Beast Within” skin for Johnny Cage. Then there’ “Bad Medicine” for D’Vorah, turning the Kytinn fighter into a spidery nurse from hell.

\n

It’s not certain if Warner Bros. is adding anything else to Mortal Kombat 11’s Halloween event, but we’ll update if something new turns up.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Halloween

\n

The Halloween fun isn’t limited to New Horizons, as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp celebrates spooky season in its own way. The 2020 Pocket Camp Halloween event features a number of special activities with ghoulish treats on offer for those who complete certain goals.

\n

Jack comes around and demands sweet treats. Hand over bat-themed lollipops to get bat furniture as a reward, and plant pumpkins during the month’s Garden Event to nab hatbats. Jack offers exclusive items such as mystical pumpkins in return.

\n

Taking part in the October Fishing Tourney nets some goodies as well, with potion-themed furniture on offer every time players reach a size goal with the fish they catch.

\n

Then there’s a fright night gyroidite scavenger hunt, new Happy Home classes and challenges, wall and carpet sets, special cookie items and more. The Pocket Camp Halloween and October events are live now.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween

\n

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Halloween update is available to download for free now, and it’s bringing more than just the Czar of Halloween to the island.

\n

Animal Crossing patch 1.5 paves the way for Halloween by adding Candy as an item players can purchase from the Nooklings’ store and pumpkins as growable DIY fodder.

\n

The patch 1.5 trailer shows players planting, watering, and harvesting at least four different pumpkin varieties and then using them in various Halloween-themed DIY recipes.

\n

On Halloween night (October 31), Jack himself visits the island. It’s not clear yet what he requires of the player, but all the residents will be lurking about, asking for Candy and showing off their costumes.

\n

The patch adds new skin tone options for players to look their creepy best as well. We’ll update with more information about what New Horizons Halloween brings to the table as it becomes available.

Monster Hunter: World Iceborne — Fun Fright Fest

\n

Capcom’s brewing up a special Monster Hunter: World Iceborne Halloween event called the Fun Fright Fest, part of the hefty Title Update 5. It runs from October 15 at 8 p.m. EST through November 5 at the same time and is exclusive to the expansion.

\n

The Autumn Harvest Fest is returning to the base Monster Hunter: World game, but Capcom hasn’t said much about it yet.

\n

Fun Fright Fest (starting at 7:06 in the above trailer) sees the Seliana Gathering Hub decked out with spooky furnishings, and the handler dons a Cute Demoness outfit to celebrate the occasion. There are two special ticket types to collect during the event and trade in for loot: the Fun Fright Ticket and the VIP Fun Fright Ticket.

\n

The former get doled out as daily login bonuses for the MHW Halloween event and can be used to craft armor with Decoration slots. Players can exchange the latter for in-game decorations and Layered Armor, but these are only available as random item drops. Both ticket types can be exchanged for Melding Tickets too.

\n

There’s at least one new set of armor coming to the Fun Fright Fest, Demon Lord Alpha+. Wearing pieces of this armor set increases the chance of getting VIP Fun Fright Tickets.

\n

Capcom may reveal more about Monster Hunter: World Iceborne’s Fun Fright Fest as the start date approaches, and we’ll update if that happens.

Killing Floor 2: Infernal Insurrection

\n

It wouldn’t be Halloween without Killing Floor 2’s annual Halloween celebrations, and 2020 is no different. This year’s Halloween event is Killing Floor 2: Infernal Insurrection, and it brings treats galore, including new weapons, maps, and cosmetics.

\n

Infernal Insurrection’s new map is Hallmark Station, a twisted take on London’s famous King’s Cross Station. Hallmark Station has been overrun by zeds, of course, and players must team up with fellow mercenaries to take down the demonic threat. Hellmark Station includes Survival, Endless, and Weekly modes.

\n

Two new HRG weapons make their debut in Killing Floor 2’s Halloween event.

\n
    \n
  • HRG Scorcher (Firebug class bonus) — a flare gun that marks targets by setting them on fire
  • \n
  • HRG Arc Generator (Survivalist class bonus) — fires EMP blasts in short bursts or powerful charges
  • \n
\n

From now until November 10, Killing Floor 2 is also introducing a number of Halloween events, objectives, bonuses, and cosmetics.

Rumor: Harry Potter RPG is Called Hogwarts: Dark Legacy https://www.gameskinny.com/4pnb2/rumor-harry-potter-rpg-is-called-hogwarts-dark-legacy https://www.gameskinny.com/4pnb2/rumor-harry-potter-rpg-is-called-hogwarts-dark-legacy Mon, 08 Jun 2020 11:45:02 -0400 Josh Broadwell

It's been a while since we've heard anything about Warner Bros.' Harry Potter RPG. But there's a new thread floating around on Reddit detailing what the Harry Potter RPG is all about. And it claims there's a trailer in the works for this summer.

VG24/7 first spotted the thread, and despite the Reddit poster claiming they're on the game's marketing team, this should be considered an unverified rumor for the time being and taken with a big grain of salt.

If it is true, we should be getting a reveal trailer before August and a release timeframe of June 2021.

According to the Reddit post, the game is called Hogwarts: Dark Legacy, which is a bit suspect in itself given "Dark Legacy" is a popular subtitle often attached to some rather steamy Harry Potter fan fiction.

Anyhow, Hogwarts: Dark Legacy is supposedly set well after the Harry Potter novels, so Voldemort isn't the main antagonist. Instead, it's a prominent Death Eater. The rumor also says that several Harry Potter hero and villain cameos are planned.

Reportedly, you play as a 5th-year Hogwarts student transferred from another school of magic. Though the majority of Dark Legacy's action is said to center around Hogwarts, there are at least four main areas full of NPCs and quests: Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and London/The Ministry of Magic where you work later. The leaker claims they weren't given details on the other location.

Choices purportedly factor heavily in the game's plot, including how it unfolds and what happens to certain characters. Hogwarts: Dark Legacy also reportedly uses a system similar to Shadow of Mordor, where you have specific rivals you can either recruit, defeat, or kill.

Combat is another aspect that centers around choices, where a Good/Evil points system determines how you develop and what spells you learn. It's also based around an energy system, so you'll need to consider each action carefully. That said, the leaker mentioned combat and story are a slow burn and take a while to ramp up.

Finally, Hogwarts: Dark Legacy is supposedly a very dark game with romance and marriage geared towards adult fans of the books, so it'll be a Teen- or Mature-rated game.

Again, it's wise not to read too much into these rumors yet, but we'll see what happens when and if a Harry Potter RPG trailer does drop this summer. The original story is over on VG24/7, but you can get more detail from the Reddit thread as well. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Hogwarts: Dark Legacy news as it develops.

More in-depth than the average freemium mobile game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite features a wide array of stats to juggle and resources to manage, in addition to some settings buried away in a hidden menu that can change your overall experience, such as the Trace Auto Align option.

This option sounds like it should make the game easier for those having trouble tracing spells, but it's actually much less exciting than that.

Let's take a look at how to turn on Trace Auto Align and examine who needs to actually use this Wizards Unite feature.

What Is Trace Auto-Align?

First off, to access this setting, tap the Suitcase at the bottom of the screen like you wanted to access your Registry or the potion creation screen.

From there, tap the gear icon in the top left-corner (usually positioned right underneath your carrier and signal strength). Scroll down to the Advanced category and toggle the Trace Auto Align option to On.

But what does it actually do?

Unfortunately, this option doesn't affect the accuracy of tracing spells like the name implies.

Instead, Trace Auto Align only matters if you have AR mode turned on, and it affects the alignment of the three stars when searching for traces before starting a battle.

When AR mode is active, you need to look around your environment through your phone's camera for the glowing blue sparkles indicating a Confoundable or other object is nearby.

Eventually, after finding the traces, you need to line up the three stars icon to start the duel and begin casting spells.

With option active, the three stars line up immediately when you get anywhere near them with your camera, and you don't have to tap the screen to kick off the spell battle.

Essentially, i'ts just removing a minor inconvenience from the game to speed up battles (and possibly to avoid mishaps with passersby who may think you're taking photos of them if the alignment stars are located in their direction).

Frankly, the game is better, faster, and smoother without AR mode active, but if you want the more immersive experience offered by augmented reality, then Trace Auto Align may be worth turning on for the handful of seconds it saves while exploring the map.

Harry Potter Wizards Unite Focus Explained https://www.gameskinny.com/ygo82/harry-potter-wizards-unite-focus-explained https://www.gameskinny.com/ygo82/harry-potter-wizards-unite-focus-explained Thu, 11 Jul 2019 14:01:44 -0400 Ty Arthur

One major way that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite distinguishes itself from its AR counterpart, Pokemon Go, is with an endless string of stats and changing terms for different types of foes and items found in the game world.

For instance, what is Focus in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and how does it differ from normal spell energy? That's an issue that has some players stumped, but we can quickly guide you through the ins and outs of using and acquiring Focus.

Explaining Wizard's Unite Focus

This particular resource is used during Wizard Challenges at Fortresses, but it doesn't actually come into play until after reaching Level 9 when you unlock the profession options (Auror, Magizoologist, or Professor).

The Focus resource actually comes in two distinct varieties:

  • Initial Focus: the amount you start off with during a Challenge
  • Maximum Focus: the total amount you can ever have at one time during a Challenge

Each of the three available professions includes special active spells to unlock that are used manually during Challenges, rather than giving passive constant bonuses like most profession abilities.

Specifically, Focus is used before a Challenge with these profession skills that are activated strategically to hinder enemies and help other wizards:

Skill Profession Effect
Weakening Hex  Auror   Reduce a foe's Power
  Bat-Bogey Hex   Auror   Reduce a foe's Stamina
Confusion Hex  Auror   Reduce a foes Defense
Focus Charm  Auror   Transfer Focus to a teammate
Mending Charm   Magizoologist  Restore teammate's Stamina
Stamina Charm   Magizoologist  Restore teammate's Stamina
Revive Charm  Magizoologist  Revive a knocked-out teammate and restore a portion of Stamina
Bravery Charm  Magizoologist  Enhance your entire team by raising Power against Elite foes
Deterioration Hex  Professor   Places an impairment on a foe that lowers Stamina every time they attack or defend
Mending Charm   Professor  Restore teammate's Stamina
Protection Charm   Professor   Enhance a teammate's Defense
Proficiency Charm  Professor   Enhance your team by raising their Proficiency Power

Note that some of the profession lessons apart from those active skills actually can increase your initial and maximum Focus.

The Auror's Steel Conviction ability or Professor's Master Mind ability, for instance, increases maximum Focus by 1 for every level taken.

A profession skill like Dueling In The Dark on the other grants 1 bonus initial Focus.

The normal spells you cast during the Challenge battle don't utilize focus; those spells where you need to trace a pattern instead pull from your normal spell energy pool just like when dealing with any Confoundable in the main part of the game.

While it's important to hit any Fortress with a full spell energy pool to cast those normal spells, Focus is acquired and used a bit different.

To replenish your Focus pool, you have to defeat foes who have the Focus icon (the red image to the left), which, obviously, will require using spell energy.

So, how do you actually use Focus in a battle?

At the beginning of a Challenge, any of the strategic active spells from the list above that you've unlocked in the profession tree will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Just tap and drag the spell you want to use toward its intended target (the subject of the challenge for a Weakening Hex for instance, or another player if you are transferring Focus with an ability like Focus Charm).

Note, however, that even if you have available Focus, most of the profession active skills have a cooldown and can't be spammed endlessly, so you need to wait between turns to fire them off again.

Have fun joining up with other wizards to take down a Fortress Challenge, and be sure to leave a comment below with your favorite Focus ability strategy for easily conquering foes!

Get More Family XP, Spell Energy in Upcoming Wizards Unite Event https://www.gameskinny.com/amcba/get-more-family-xp-spell-energy-in-upcoming-wizards-unite-event https://www.gameskinny.com/amcba/get-more-family-xp-spell-energy-in-upcoming-wizards-unite-event Fri, 28 Jun 2019 16:35:39 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Niantic greeted Harry Potter: Wizards Unite players with a special alert message today, outlining an event that starts June 29 and will offer bonuses to those who participate.

The event is labeled a Task Force Emergency, with the alert asking all Task Force members (read: Wizards Unite players) to take up their wands and help contain a "flare-up of Foundables."

During the event, Inns and Greenhouses will provide additional Spell Energy (on top of the already-implemented Spell Energy increase), and Care of Magical Creatures Traces will grant double Family XP once players return them.

There will be more Magical Creatures Traces on the map as well, offering more chances to nab that sweet extra XP.

Foundables already entered into the Register will also award double Family XP.

The special Task Force Emergency event begins in the Americas at 2 p.m. EST, and it truly is a limited-time event. Niantic said it only lasts three hours.

Spell Energy is the veritable lifeblood of Wizards Unite. It's what lets S.O.S. Task Force members engage in combat, and combat is necessary to advance in the game.

Unsurprisingly, XP levels up some aspect of the player's wizard or witch avatar. Family XP, in particular, goes in the Exploration part of the Registry. Ranking up part of the Registry grants access to a special Treasure Trunk, which, gives items that can be exchanged for loot.

It also helps fulfill Niantic's promise to continue providing more content and improving the gameplay experience, a promise after Wizards Unite got off to a slightly rocky launch with the grind required to bypass paying for upgrades.

The only problem? Wizards Unite players who can't Apparate to a more densely populated area are still left without.

Wizards Unite Portkey and Portmanteau Guide: How to Get and How to Use https://www.gameskinny.com/pnone/wizards-unite-portkey-and-portmanteau-guide-how-to-get-and-how-to-use https://www.gameskinny.com/pnone/wizards-unite-portkey-and-portmanteau-guide-how-to-get-and-how-to-use Fri, 28 Jun 2019 10:41:02 -0400 Kenneth Seward Jr.

Pokemon Go fans shouldn’t be surprised to learn that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite shares a lot of the same gameplay mechanics. That doesn’t mean that a long-time Go player will be able to understand what’s being asked of them; despite an item functioning in a familiar manner, the game’s terminology, such as Portmanteau and Portkeys, can sometimes complicate things.

While the tutorial helps to explain their purpose in Wizards Unite, the finer details can be a little confusing for non-diehard Harry Potter fans. Luckily, we’ve put together a handy guide to help get everyone up to speed.

Portkeys Aren’t Really Keys

Before we can talk about their uses, we have to explain what these items are. A Portmanteau is an oddly shaped box – it looks like a little house – that’s found randomly out in the world. They come in three different variants:

  1. Prized
  2. Precious
  3. Paramount

Each of them has a different look and unlocking requirement. These items, when unlocked, rewards players with Portkeys.

Portkeys are special items that allow players to open portals to popular locations pulled from the books and films. Though they have the word “key” in their names, they aren’t actually keys. I mean, they are, considering that they “unlock” new places to visit, but they aren’t keys in the same vein as the game’s gold and silver keys.

The Real Keys

In order to open a Portmanteau, players will need to use a key and walk a certain distance based on the Portmanteau type; Prized, Precious and Paramount will need to be walked 2KM, 5KM, and 10KM respectively. They are like the eggs in Pokemon Go (swap the incubator for a key).

Silver keys are limited items that are discarded after a single use. Gold keys, on the other hand, can be used indefinitely.

Everyone is given a Gold key at the start of the game. Silver keys are obtained by leveling up, by returning Foundables and/or by purchasing them with real money in Diagon Alley.

At first, it might seem silly to pursue silver keys. Given their limited use, it would be easier just to use a gold key, right? Here’s the thing: only one key can be used to open a given Portmanteau at a time.

Players can have up to eight of them altogether. If they only have the one gold key, they’ll only be able to open one box at a time. Using multiple silver keys will allow for multiple Portmanteau to be opened at once – the distance walked will be recorded for multiple boxes at a time.

The Point

Snagging Portkeys is a great way to collect Foundable Fragments, earn extra XP, gain loot (potion ingredients, etc.) and more. They also showcase some pretty cool AR events; who wouldn’t want to travel to places like the Ministry of Magic?

Once you’ve unlocked a Portmanteau and used a Portkey, you’ll be allowed to step into a new location. There, you’ll need to find 5 Wrackspurts hidden in the environment to earn rewards. Finding them all will finish the event, allowing you to step back into your previous real-world location. Good times!

Extra Tips:

Make sure to save your silver keys for the Precious and Paramount Portmanteau. That way, you can unlock a bunch of them at a time; walking 10 KM for four boxes as opposed to one will save you a lot of steps.

You can only hold 8 Portmanteau at a time. So be sure to use the gold key on the Prized (2 KM) boxed or else you’ll fill up with them/miss out on better ones.

Be sure to use potions that affect Portkeys before activating them. Baruffio’s Brain Elixir, for instance, grants a double XP buff to players (making trips through these portals more beneficial).

If you don’t find all of the Wrackspurts before leaving a given location, you won’t be able to return there to collect what you missed later. Using a new Portkey will result in a new place (or a new instance of an old place).

And there you have it. Now you know what Portmanteau/Portkeys are and why they’re important. Make sure to check out our Harry Potter: Wizards Unite guide hub for more spell binding tips.

Wizards Unite Master Notes For All Potion Motions https://www.gameskinny.com/iy1fb/wizards-unite-master-notes-for-all-potion-motions https://www.gameskinny.com/iy1fb/wizards-unite-master-notes-for-all-potion-motions Wed, 26 Jun 2019 15:42:18 -0400 Ty Arthur

If you want to take on the more dangerous threats in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, you'll need a steady supply of potions on hand to make your spell casting more potent, and to get the best of them, you'll need Master Notes.

A potion master note in Harry Potter Wizards UniteOf course, as with any freemium mobile game, there's a catch: potions work on timers that can be bypassed with gold.

You might be tempted to start making a huge number of potions immediately so you don't run out, but it's actually better to hold off until you learn each potion's input.

Using these while brewing significantly decreases the brew time without having to spend gold.

How To Enter Master Notes During Potion Stirring and Brewing

Haven't entered a symbol yet for a potion? On the Potions screen, when you have a brewing potion selected, tap the stirring stick in the pot to bring up the master input screen.

From there, just trace the motions in the cauldron (don't tap the question mark icons where it looks like the Notes should actually appear).

This process works just like casting spells against Foundables or enemies at a Fortress, except there's no guide on the screen to help you with you the specific motion. When you get a motion correct, it will replace the question mark at the top.

After successfully entering the Master Notes motions three times for a single type of potion, the formula will remain on the screen near the top so you don't have to remember the motions or keep referencing a guide.

Wizards Unite Complete Master Notes List

Each potion requires between 3-6 symbols to be traced on the cauldron.

With some of the more advanced potions featuring huge wait times, that 15% reduction provided by these inputs can be significant, especially if you are constantly brewing a large number of potions.

The table below shows each symbol for every potion type.

The guide on the left will help you figure out the exact way to perform the tap or phone motion to complete the gesture.

Here's what to know when using them in potion brewing:

  • Tap and drag in a counterclockwise circle
  • Tap and drag in a clockwise circle
  • Drag a horizontal line left to right across your device
  • Drag a vertical line top to bottom across your device
  • Tap two points on the left and right side of the screen and pinch inward (like you were zooming out on a web page)
  • Tap two points at the center of the screen and pinch outward up and down (like you were zooming in on a web page)
  • Shake your device back and forth quickly
  • Rapidly tap three points anywhere on the cauldron
Potion Note 1 Note 2 Note 3 Note 4 Note 5 Note 6
 Exstimulo Potion        None None  None
Strong Exstimulo Potion          None None

Invigoration Draught           None None

Keep in mind that these are current and accurate as of the official North American launch; it is quite likely more potions will be added over time or Niantic may change the configurations in the coming months.

How To Use Dark Detectors in Harry Potter Wizards Unite https://www.gameskinny.com/g5mb3/how-to-use-dark-detectors-in-harry-potter-wizards-unite https://www.gameskinny.com/g5mb3/how-to-use-dark-detectors-in-harry-potter-wizards-unite Wed, 26 Jun 2019 13:41:36 -0400 Ty Arthur

Looking for more traces to uncover and foes to battle while getting in your daily walking exercise with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite? Most likely, you already have your favorite nearby Inn for daily free spell energy. However, you can also maximize your efficiency by utilizing Dark Detectors to nab more Foundables.

Essentially acting like like Lures from Pokemon Go, the Dark Detector makes it much more likely that you'll find new creatures, wizards, or items to add to your registry.

Where To Use Dark Detectors

Unfortunately, you can't just set down Dark Detectors from your couch and wait for new traces and foes to show up on your doorstep.

Your current inventory of Dark Detectors shows up on the Utility screen of the Vault, underneath your scroll and key currencies. However, you can't actually use one from that screen.

Instead, Dark Detectors are only available while you are physically close enough to an Inn to interact with the location and cast a spell to gain rewards.

While near an Inn, just tap the tab at the bottom and then decide how many Dark Detectors to place. Any given Inn can have up to three Detectors active at a time, and each lasts for 30 minutes.

During that 30 minute window, encounter spawn rates increase significantly. If you only have a limited amount of time to play during the day, using Detectors is the best way to ensure you find something new or earn extra fragments toward something you've already placed in the registry.

If you followed our energy gathering guide and found a loop of Inns, you can drop one or more Detectors at each Inn, then find new items and creatures as you follow your loop and wait for the Inn's five-minute energy timer to reset.

Since you get a full half hour with each Dark Detector, this can be a lucrative way to find a bunch of creatures quickly.

Don't worry if you forgot which Inn you used to drop your Detectors, either.  You can tell if an Inn has one or more Dark Detectors active without actually visiting it directly. It will have a ring of magic swirls around the top, with extra swirls appearing for each additional Detector currently active.

How To Get More Dark Detectors

So now for the big question: where do you actually get Dark Detectors?

Some players seem to have started off with one automatically, but that no longer appears to be offered as a new player reward; I never received one just for first loading up the game.

You do get a free one the very first time you try to open the Dark Detectors tab at an Inn, however, as a wizard dialog prompt will appear explaining how to use the item.

If you have gold to spare, the easiest and most reliable way is to head over to the Wisacres shop in Diagon Alley and pick up one Detector for 120 gold or three for 325 gold.

Here's the full list of possible ways to acquire Dark Detectors:

  • Get one free Detector the first time you open the Dark Detector tab at an Inn
  • Acquire them periodically through the daily login rewards screen
  • Buy them through daily featured bundles in Diagon Alley (availability varies day by day)
  • Buy them singly or in three packs from Wiseacres
  • Earn free Dark Detectors intermittently when leveling up
  • Check the Daily and Special Assignments screens, as they sometimes show up as rewards there as well

At the moment, spending gold is the most sure fire way to grab them, as they only show up as daily or event rewards rarely.

Have you found any other ways to pick up Dark Detectors or have any other tips on using them to efficiently farm traces? Leave us a comment below, and be sure to check out our other Harry Potter Wizards Unite guides here.

Harry Potter Wizards Unite: What Does The Spectrespecs Lens Do? https://www.gameskinny.com/wtc5a/harry-potter-wizards-unite-what-does-the-spectrespecs-lens-do https://www.gameskinny.com/wtc5a/harry-potter-wizards-unite-what-does-the-spectrespecs-lens-do Tue, 25 Jun 2019 14:14:19 -0400 Ty Arthur

While we're still busy finding out all the different mechanics in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic is still refining the gameplay based on player feedback, changing up the energy system and making other tweaks, such as adding in the new spectrespecs lens item.

But are they worth the effort it takes to get them? Although they help you find additional hidden wonders, they are sadly much less exciting than you'd expect.

What is The Spectrespecs Lens?

The Spectrespecs is a Foundable that goes on the magical objects page of the Challenges section, and it requires 100 shards to complete.

That makes it seem like the new spectrespecs lens available in the Anti-Calamity pack should have some connection, offering up an instant addition to your collection, or perhaps providing a way to see extra hidden items while searching for Foundables.

Sadly, neither is the case. This is just another cosmetic item to throw onto your wizard's profile.

The lens itself is fairly worthless (unless you really like the style and want to sport it while taking on Fortresses with your fellow witches and wizards), but the rest of the pack is actually pretty helpful if you feel like dropping $4.99 on a mobile game.

Those potent Exstimulo potions that come with it can be very helpful in taking on more difficult Foundables, saving wizards from roving Dementors found while exploring the muggle world, or defeating foes at Fortresses.

Since you also get a bunch of extra gold, you can immediately craft an abundance of additional potions in any type if you find yourself low on options.

Yeah, we were hoping the lens was something cooler, but maybe Niantic will see the disappointing player reaction and add in something new!

Harry Potter Wizards Unite: Ingredients and Greenhouse Growing https://www.gameskinny.com/mdw4k/harry-potter-wizards-unite-ingredients-and-greenhouse-growing https://www.gameskinny.com/mdw4k/harry-potter-wizards-unite-ingredients-and-greenhouse-growing Tue, 25 Jun 2019 13:45:36 -0400 Jason Coles

The wizarding world of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite holds many mysteries. To go with that, there are a lot of resources to help you save the world, some of which are Greenhouses to grow your own ingredients.

They can be a little confusing, though, so we thought we'd put together a guide to help you get the most of them.

What Are Greenhouses?

They are one most important features in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. In much the same way you can find Inns as you wander around the world, you can also come across Greenhouses.

The key difference is that while Inns help you recharge Spell Energy, Greenhouses are essential to more than just that spell energy; they are incredibly important for potion brewing. Greenhouses allow you to get new ingredients, and better yet, even grow your own.

They aren't actually green, though, instead showing up as blue houses covered in glass. They also have a 5-minute cooldown after use.

How to Gather Ingredients

To use a Greenhouse, you need to walk within range of it and simply tap on it. You’ll then be given the choice of pulling up one of several plants, which will, in turn, give you some ingredients.

Swipe up to collect the ingredient from the chosen plant.

Plants are usually based on what other players have planted there recently. That means plants are random; there's no guarantee what you'll find inside.

Unless you plant them yourself.

Growing a plant in a greenhouse.

How To Grow Plants

If you want to grow your own ingredients, tap the button at the bottom right of the screen while in a Greenhouse. The option will say "Growing" and have a small leaf and seed as an icon (re: to the right of the pot in the screen above).

This will take you to a list of the seeds you have in your inventory, and you’ll be able to choose which one you want to plant. The grow button will turn green, meaning you can plant the seed.

You can find seeds as you play the game and defeat dark forces. Each has its own watering requirements, and each has a specific grow time.

Below is a list of the seeds you'll come across in the world as of this writing:

Wormwood
Wolfsbane

Sopophorous
Snowdrop
Sneezewort
Scurvygrass

Here's another list, which lists what plants you can grow, the time it takes for each to grow, what ingredients you'll need to grow them, and what they're used for.

How to Speed Up Growing

You can’t speed up growing, but you can make it more worth your while. You can choose to cast Herbivicus on a growing plant, which will increase the number of ingredients that the plant will then produce.

Better yet, other people can cast Herbivicus on your plants, too, which will further increase the yield.

Once the plant is fully grown, you have to harvest it within 30 minutes, otherwise, it disappears. The good news is that everyone who harvests that plant will get the full amount of ingredients, so you’ll never be wasting your time casting Herbivicus on a plant you know you want.

That's everything there is to know about Greenhouses in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The best way to approach growing ingredients is with friends and teammates because you can all benefit from a little bit of combined effort.

Harry Potter Wizards Unite: How to Change Your Code Name https://www.gameskinny.com/zpr0p/harry-potter-wizards-unite-how-to-change-your-code-name https://www.gameskinny.com/zpr0p/harry-potter-wizards-unite-how-to-change-your-code-name Mon, 24 Jun 2019 15:30:33 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Niantic's Harry Potter: Wizards Unite exited beta last week and, like many games, has you choose two names when you first jump in: a Ministry ID and a Code Name.

The Ministry ID is your in-game name. It's what NPCs in Wizards Unite will call you, but not what shows up for other players or in friend requests.

That's your Wizards Unite Code Name. This is how other players will know who you are. It displays in friend requests and lets people track your progress by that name. It also appears when you join a challenge at a Fortress, remaining visible for the duration of the challenge. Finally, it's also what shows up at an Inn if you put a Dark Detector at said Inn to try and attract more Traces.

Naturally, Niantic via the game's official website is cautioning players to be careful when choosing a Code Name, since you could very well end up meeting the people who see it in the course of playing Wizards Unite.

But how do you change it if you don't like it? The short answer to that is that you can't.

Right now, Niantic doesn't let players change their Code Name after they've already picked one. If you've ended up entering something that now fills you with regret, unfortunately, the only option is to restart the game from the very beginning.

Code Names are tied to the account you use for the game, and if you sign out of the account, you can't play the game.

For what it's worth, you can change your Ministry ID as many times as you want.

We've reached out to Niantic, asking whether there are any plans to change this situation and let players change their CNs in the near future, and we'll update once we hear back.

Meanwhile, if you're stuck trying to get more Spell Energy and don't feel like trekking to the nearest AT&T retail location, check out our Harry Potter: Wizards Unite spell energy guide.

Niantic Partnering with AT&T, Simon for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite https://www.gameskinny.com/zq561/niantic-partnering-with-att-simon-for-harry-potter-wizards-unite https://www.gameskinny.com/zq561/niantic-partnering-with-att-simon-for-harry-potter-wizards-unite Mon, 24 Jun 2019 14:29:18 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite just launched last week, and Niantic is already announcing a partnership with AT&T and Simon for a set of events centered around real-world locations.

For a limited time, Wizards Unite players can earn additional rewards and find more foes than usual at Inns and Fortresses around more than 10,000 AT&T and Cricket Wireless retail locations.

The sponsored AT&T locations will give players more XP and Spell Energy than usual. That's on top of the already-announced Spell Energy increase to boot, and our handy Wizards Unite Spell Energy guide can help you get even more from these locations.

Both AT&T and Cricket Wireless locations will also host special, exclusive quests to help players level up even faster.

The event's start date is staggered depending on the retail location. The AT&T portion of the event started June 21, while Cricket Wireless stores will begin participating on July 15.

However, Simon Malls, Mills, and Premium Outlet locations have already begun their part in the event. U.S. players can visit one of the many Simon locations in the country to earn more XP and Spell Energy from Inns and have the chance to encounter hard-to-find enemies as well.

The idea behind both sets of events is encouraging people to explore their surroundings, just like with Pokemon GO. Omar Tellez, Niantic's Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, said:

Real world games like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite are all about engaging with the world around you, creating new and unique opportunities for players to interact within their neighborhoods, towns and cities like never-before.

To that end, AT&T and Simon will both be taking part in future events connected to Wizards Unite as well, such as offering special QR quests. It's potentially good news for some players as well since events that take advantage of commonplace retail stores like these are also Niantic's way of combating the ever-present problem of empty game worlds in rural areas.

Niantic Makes It Easier to Get Spell Energy in New Wizards Unite Update https://www.gameskinny.com/udjge/niantic-makes-it-easier-to-get-spell-energy-in-new-wizards-unite-update https://www.gameskinny.com/udjge/niantic-makes-it-easier-to-get-spell-energy-in-new-wizards-unite-update Sun, 23 Jun 2019 11:18:48 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the highly anticipated sequel to Niantic's other AR hit Pokemon GO is getting a new update that grants more spell energy to players.

The change was announced on the Wizards Unite Reddit page and comes in response to player feedback.

The game will now award players with double Spell Energy when they first start playing, raising the Energy level from 25 to 50. Spell Energy received from Inns, Greenhouses, and completing Daily Challenges is getting a boost too, including “To Collect an Ingredient or Portmanteau” going from 5 to 10.

Niantic didn't mention a concrete number for the increases in Inn and Greenhouse Spell Energy — the two main ways of obtaining Spell Energy in Wizards Unite — but any increase is a boon for Energy-starved players, and the overall reaction to the announcement is positive so far.

That's likely because shortly after the game launched, Reddit was filling up with comments about how Inns and Daily Challenges didn't offer enough Spell Energy, which is required for battle.

Instead of getting a more seamless experience, players had to play the waiting-and-grinding game, lingering around Inns until they reset and repeating that process ad infinitum until they had enough Spell Energy to continue playing the game.

The alternative was, of course, buying Spell Energy, which wasn't high on the top of most people's preferred methods of obtaining Energy. As such, it resulted in some, especially those who had played during the beta testing, leaving the game for a while until Niantic balanced things further.

It didn't help that some players were, and still are, experiencing issues with Inn locations, What might be a Pokestop in Pokemon GO ends up being a Fortress in Wizards Unite, making it difficult to find areas granting Spell Energy, particularly for those in rural areas.

This bit of balancing has happened rather quickly and lends some credence to Niantic's statement they want to continue making the game better by gathering feedback.

While the lack of available content in rural areas is still a concern, Wizards Unite players are making their concerns known. It's always possible some solution or other will arise as time goes on, such as Niantic adding more events to the game as time goes on.

Harry Potter Wizards Unite Professions Guide https://www.gameskinny.com/66ar4/harry-potter-wizards-unite-professions-guide https://www.gameskinny.com/66ar4/harry-potter-wizards-unite-professions-guide Sat, 22 Jun 2019 08:32:59 -0400 Ty Arthur

Aside from picking your house and deciding on your wand type, the biggest decision in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is which specific profession to take.

We've got a full listing of all the skills available to each profession, as well as a breakdown of how to pick the best profession for your play style.

Wondering how to recharge your spell energy instead? Check out our full guide to all free methods for gaining extra spell energy here.

How To Pick Your Wizards Unite Profession

Showing the Auror profession in Harry Potter Wizards UniteThe three professions aren't available immediately and only unlock once you hit Level 6.

You'll need to spend some time going around locating Foundables and picking up ingredients before you even get to make the choice.

As a solo player, Auror works out great if you aren't sure of what to pick, although you can switch between professions if you don't like your first choice.

There's a downside there, though, as it costs spellbooks and scrolls to upgrade abilities, so you lose out on your investment if you switch over to a different profession and then start at the beginning of that profession's skill tree.

You mainly want to base your choice around creating a balanced team with your friends who will take part in group Fortress activities, so you have at least one of each:

  • Auror: Combat focused. Strong versus Dark Forces, weak versus Beasts
  • Magizoologist: Support healers. Strong versus Beasts, weak versus Curiosities
  • Professor: Balanced utility class. Strong versus Curiosities, weak versus Dark Forces

Aside from their strengths and weaknesses against particular foes, each profession has different passive skills that provide constant boosts to your abilities, as well as active skills utilized in Fortress battles with other players.

How to Get Spell Energy in Harry Potter Wizards Unite https://www.gameskinny.com/0r4t7/how-to-get-spell-energy-in-harry-potter-wizards-unite https://www.gameskinny.com/0r4t7/how-to-get-spell-energy-in-harry-potter-wizards-unite Fri, 21 Jun 2019 13:34:51 -0400 Ty Arthur

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is finally out. You'll trace spells and track down escaped creatures that have broken loose in the muggle world. To do that, though, you need spell energy. But once you're out, how do you increase it and get more?

Spell energy is only acquired in a handful of ways. While most of the AR "battles" in this game only take one SE to complete, some will take up to a whopping 10 at a time, so you'll need to find ways to regularly acquire more if you plan to play for extended periods of time.

Wizards Unite Spell Energy Recharge Methods

Wizards Unite daily login reward screenMuch like acquiring poke balls at poke stops in Pokemon Go, you still need to get an energy recharge at real-world locations, as running out essentially means you can't play any longer.

SE is offered for free every few days at the daily login reward screen and sometimes found as a reward for completing daily assignments

To find the assignments, tap the Calendar icon at the bottom right corner of the screen and see what's available.

These will usually involve casting spells to return a certain number of Foundables, or picking up a certain number of potion ingredients while traveling around with your phone. If you're looking for a bit of exercise, there are usually also daily assignments for walking a specific distance each day.

Of course, you can also buy extra SE with real-world money via the S.O.S pack (just tap the present icon in the upper right corner to open up the Diagon Alley menu), but let's avoid that option for now.

Getting More Spell Energy for Free

A more reliable, free, and fun way to get what you need is by getting off the couch and heading into your local community to find Inns and Greenhouses.

Unfortunately, this method can be less helpful for people in rural areas, as you may have to travel a significant distance to find reliable Inn locations. In my case, the nearest one is about half a mile from my apartment, so it's a bit of a hike without getting in the car.

Visit as many landmarks, businesses, or other points of interest in your area as possible to find Inns.

Once at an Inn, trace the wizard mark at the bottom of the screen to get rewards, which typically include SE.

How to check remaining spell energy in Wizards UniteWant to maximize farming? Find an area that has several Inns that you can walk on a loop. Inns reset every five minutes, so you can go back and hit the first Inn on the loop again after your five-minute walk.

These Inn loop locations will vary between towns, but can often be found in places like state parks or anywhere with a large number of statues or businesses in a line.

Energy can also be randomly acquired from Greenhouses when you select a potted plant, but you'll find less overall spell energy this way, so Inns are really the way to go for reliable energy recharge.

Checking Your Stores

Not sure where to see how much spell energy you currently have? Its sort of hidden in a weird, out of the way location when you first start out.

Tap the Suitcase icon at the bottom middle part of your phone, then tap the Vault. Up above the potions options you should see your current and max energy in the top-left corner. It also displays when you access the Diagon Alley store screen.

That's all you need to know about how to get spell energy in Wizards Unite. Be sure to head over to our guides page for more on the game, such as our professions guide and how to change your codename, as well as how and to use greenhouses and what the disappointing spectrespecs are for.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Out Now, But Leaves Some Players in the Lurch https://www.gameskinny.com/zh7tm/harry-potter-wizards-unite-out-now-but-leaves-some-players-in-the-lurch https://www.gameskinny.com/zh7tm/harry-potter-wizards-unite-out-now-but-leaves-some-players-in-the-lurch Fri, 21 Jun 2019 09:21:24 -0400 Josh Broadwell

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic's follow-up to Pokemon GO, is out now on Android and iOS in the U.S. and U.K. Technically, it released yesterday, a day earlier than expected.

Wizards Unite employs a structure very similar to Pokemon GO. It's an AR-based game with special Inns and Fortresses at notable landmarks, but instead of capturing magical creatures, players are tasked with locating certain people or items stuck between the Muggle and magical worlds.

Inns and Fortresses are all based on real-world locations; the more landmarks or places of interest in a given area, the more content the game will feature for players in said area.

Of course, like Pokemon GO, that means some rural players are left feeling like Muggles waiting for their Hogwarts letter. Less populous areas naturally don't have as many sites of greater interest, which leads to fewer opportunities to engage with the game's content.

Multiple Reddit users report having few or only one Inn near their locations, saying they'd have to drive at least 30 minutes to an hour to actually enjoy the game.

WB Games San Francisco's Mary Casey spoke to Eurogamer about the issue and said the developers are working to ensure a healthy balance between urban and rural areas. As far as how this balance would be created, Casey only referred to the landmark feature and said the game is built around the idea of going out to explore surroundings.

Some aspects like potion making can be done at home, but users are already pointing to problems with time mechanics and grinding required to make any progress. Potion making, in particular, is a central feature of the game, making use of various items that can be found and eventually offering benefits to the player once it's finished brewing. However, it takes a long time to finish brewing — unless players pay to rent a better cauldron.

Whether coin grinding, waiting on potions, and staring at empty space for miles around in the AR wizarding world end up getting addressed in later patches is uncertain.

Still, the game only just exited its beta testing, so the build we have now isn't going to be the same build we see later this year or even by the end of the summer. After all, Pokemon GO itself went from barebones experience to featuring multiple new mechanics and hosting worldwide events in a very short time.

Niantic And WB Games Reveal New Gameplay Details for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite https://www.gameskinny.com/dpj8p/niantic-and-wb-games-reveal-new-gameplay-details-for-harry-potter-wizards-unite https://www.gameskinny.com/dpj8p/niantic-and-wb-games-reveal-new-gameplay-details-for-harry-potter-wizards-unite Mon, 11 Mar 2019 13:13:27 -0400 QuintLyn

Today, WB Games and Pokemon GO developer, Niantic, released the first gameplay of a new mobile AR game based on the Harry Potter franchise. Titled Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the game places players in the role of a new recruit for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, and the footage released shows Ron and Boggart, as we all as a dark witch.

As a new recruit, players will work with other players from all over the world to investigate a major disaster in the wizarding world. As they work together to contain the disaster, players will cast spells and gather artifacts, creatures, people, and memories, known collectively as "Foundables," returning them to where they belong before the Muggle world finds out about them.

Much like Pokemon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has Stops called Inns, where players will refill their spell energy and obtain ingredients for potions. They'll also be able to pick up Portkeys that unlock AR portals to important locations found in the Harry Potter books and movies.

Also similar to Pokemon GO, players will be able to compete against each other using their magical combat skills at Fortresses, the Wizards Unite's version of Gyms.

The game is set to release on both iOS and Android devices later this year. Prior to that, Android users can pre-register for the download via Google Play

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is Niantic's third Augmented Reality offering and the second to work with a major IP.  With its original release  Ingress Niantic set itself apart as a developer of Augmented Reality games.

When the company teamed up with the Pokemon Company to create Pokemon GO, it officially became the go-to-developer for all things mobile AR.

Now, With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the company has taken on another massive IP, although time will only tell if Wizards Unite will make the move from highly-anticipated to highly-regarded.
