As if Zeds overrunning Earth wasn't bad enough, they've now made their way to the moon. Killing Floor 2's Interstellar Insanity update is (a)live now, and it finds players eradicating the Zed menace on a brand new map: Moonbase. The free summer update is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Alongside the new Moonbase map, Interstellar Insanity includes four new weapons and a number of cosmetics for Zed hunters to get their grubby mitts on. The Blast Brawler gauntlets will help Support smash Zed heads and push enemies back to keep allies alive, while the HRG Bastion LMG gives SWAT an extra buffer against the horde with an energy shield.

The summer update also includes two paid DLC weapons in the FAMAS Masterkey for Commando and Support, and the Thermite Bore for Firebug. The FAMAS features an underbarrel shotgun and ACOG scope, and the Thermiote Bore features sticky grenades.

The two new weekly modes are Arachnophobia and Scavenger. Arachnophobia ups the spawn rate of crawlers and increases their health pool, while Scavenger removes all weapons from vendors, forcing players to pick up on the map.

Developer Tripwire Interactive also said in a Steam update that a number of bug fixes have been issued with this update, and that they have also implemented some user feedback in the form of "quality of life" changes, tweaking some perks and rebalancing certain weapons.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker Halloween: Haunted Frontier

\n

Hardspace: Shipbreaker's Halloween event is Haunted Frontier, full of spooky haunted ships that put your bravery — and desire for salvage — to the test.

\n

The update, which is live now on Steam, turns any ship into a potential ghost ship. Things start deteriorating as you gather materials and fend off rogue AI nodes. Lights flicker on and off. Air gets sucked out of the room. And somewhere deep in the ship, unsettling sounds can be heard...

\n

Should you make it out alive, you can show off your hard-earned rewards with new stickers and badges.

Head back to the outer reaches of the galaxy to find some new loot in the No Man's Sky Halloween update. The freighters are full of new treats and a security system gone haywire.

PUBG Mobile Infection Mode

\n

PUBG Mobile's Infection Mode is back from the dead from now until November 9, with new content, themes, costumes, and plenty of zombies.

\n

Infection Mode's classic combat returns, pitting a team of Defenders against a team of Zombies in an all-or-nothing fight. Zombies — sporting Halloween masks, if you so choose —  can only use melee attacks, but fallen Defenders transform into Zombies with chances for form shifts and stat buffs.

\n

If it all gets too much for the Defenders, they transform into Vanquishers when their team is down to three members. Foes they vanquish can't be resurrected.

\n

These hellish fights unfold across maps decked out with pumpkins, gravestones, and other seasonal paraphernalia. More costumes and decorations are planned before the end of the event.

Pokemon GO Halloween 2020

\n

Pokemon GO Halloween 2020 runs from October 23 at 9 p.m. EST through November 3 at the same time and offers the first chance to get your hands on Galarian Yamask among other things.

\n

Completing the Halloween Special Research "A Spooky Message Unmasked" gets you one step closer to finding both Galarian Yamask and Spiritomb. Other Field Research tasks will also center around Halloween themes during the event.

\n

Ghost-type Pokemon will be more common in the wild, in Raids, and in Eggs. You might even find a costumed Gengar in Raids or hatch a Sableye in costume if you're lucky.

Talking of Raids, Darkrai takes center stage for five-star Raids, but there's more Halloween Raid goodness in store.

Overcooked! 2  Moon Harvest Festival

\n

Overcooked! 2's Halloween celebration isn't technically Halloween-themed. It's in honor of harvest and autumn celebrations throughout eastern Asia, but it's fall-ish, so it works.

\n

Better yet, it's a free update with no end time, and the content will appear in Overcooked! All You Can Eat for next-gen consoles.

\n

Overcooked! 2's Moon Harvest Festival introduces new kitchens themed around water and lily pad obstacles. There are five new levels total, plus three succulent-looking mooncakes to add to the menu.

Borderlands 3 Halloween — Bloody Harvest Returns

\n

Borderlands 3's Bloody Harvest Halloween event is back for October 2020. The ghoulish festivities run through November 5, and it's easier than ever to get your hands on some sweet, ghastly gear.

\n

To kick things off, head to Sanctuary III, and speak with Maurice. Maurice tasks you with collecting Hecktoplasm from haunted enemies, easily spotted by their ghostly green glow.

\n

Defeating haunted enemies spawns specters you'll need to defeat as well, and that's when you finally get ahold of Hecktoplasm.

\n

After collecting enough of Hecktoplasm, Maurice opens the gate to Heck, where you can chat with Captain Haunt to access a number of quests, through which you'll earn Bloody Harvest items and cosmetics.

\n

This year, the Bloody Harvest quests are less demanding than before, making it easier to get loot.

\n
    \n
  • 4 challenges completed  “A Shrinking Feeling" weapon trinket
  • \n
  • 8 challenges completed  "Message from Beyond" ECHO Device skin
  • \n
  • 12 challenges completed  "Haunted Look" shared Vault Hunter skin
  • \n
  • 15 challenges completed  "Porphyrophobia" weapon skin

Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost 2020

\n

Destiny 2 brings back the Festival of the Lost and the Haunted Forest for 2020, with new weapons, triumphs, armor sets, and cosmetics for Exotics to celebrate the spookiest season of the year. Festival of the Lost 2020 is free for all Destiny 2 players and runs from October 6 through November 3.

\n
\n\n
\n

Festival of the Lost 2020 adds new perk rolls for the Braytech Werewolf and Horror Story, plus new sets for a few classes:

\n
    \n
  • Hunter — Lycanthrope Set
  • \n
  • Warlock — Daywalker (vampire) Set
  • \n
  • Titan — Promethean Set
  • \n
\n

On the official Festival of the Lost blog post, Bungie provided more information on the Halloween event. The Spider is a new NPC that gives players Cipher Decoders that unlock special chests at the end of The Haunted Forest. The chests are worth pursuing because they contain Legendary items specific to the Festival of the Lost.

\n

Rounding things out, there are new Sparrow skins available, as well as festival masks and vanity items for various armor sets, including broomsticks and witch hats.

Resident Evil Resistance October Update

\n

Resident Evil Resistance has a big October update in store, which is basically a Halloween update without actually being called a Halloween update.

\n

Jill Valentine joins the ranks of the Survivors, with powerful weapons and her characteristic dodge mechanic from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake. And as is only fitting, Nemesis itself is a playable Mastermind for the first time. Players control Nemesis through playing as Nicholai, another new Mastermind.

\n

The Prison is a new map added in RE Resistance's October update, and the Uptown Raccoon City and Bemusement Park maps get a remix with new layouts.

\n

Finally is a slew of new costumes and weapon skins, Survivors' perks and customizable abilities, and Mastermind traps.

Grounded October Update

\n

Grounded’s October update adds ziplines and more to the survival game, including some Halloween-themed items. The initial announcement is relatively light on details, but players can expect decorations, recreational items, and doodads to use with friends. These include harvestable Candy Corn and a new landmark in the Frankenline, which is described as "a creepy discarded Etch-a-Sketch you can actually draw on."

\n

Aside from washing The Backyard in a spooky glow, the October update for Grounded does a lot on the backend as well, including fixing a handful of bugs, fine-tuning combat, and unlocking new perks. You can see the full patch notes here

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath  All Hallows' Eve

\n

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath is getting some Halloween goodness with the All Hallows’ Eve character skin pack. It’s available now and is free for Aftermath owners. Those who haven’t upgraded to Aftermath yet would need to purchase the expansion, which also unlocks the Summer Heat and Femme Fatale packs from earlier in 2020.

\n

Mortal Kombat 11’s All Hallows’ Eve skin pack trailer highlighted three of the included skins. One is the “Blizzard King” outfit for Sub-Zero, and then there’s the part-werewolf part-school spirit “Beast Within” skin for Johnny Cage. Then there’ “Bad Medicine” for D’Vorah, turning the Kytinn fighter into a spidery nurse from hell.

\n

It’s not certain if Warner Bros. is adding anything else to Mortal Kombat 11’s Halloween event, but we’ll update if something new turns up.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Halloween

\n

The Halloween fun isn’t limited to New Horizons, as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp celebrates spooky season in its own way. The 2020 Pocket Camp Halloween event features a number of special activities with ghoulish treats on offer for those who complete certain goals.

\n

Jack comes around and demands sweet treats. Hand over bat-themed lollipops to get bat furniture as a reward, and plant pumpkins during the month’s Garden Event to nab hatbats. Jack offers exclusive items such as mystical pumpkins in return.

\n

Taking part in the October Fishing Tourney nets some goodies as well, with potion-themed furniture on offer every time players reach a size goal with the fish they catch.

\n

Then there’s a fright night gyroidite scavenger hunt, new Happy Home classes and challenges, wall and carpet sets, special cookie items and more. The Pocket Camp Halloween and October events are live now.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween

\n

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Halloween update is available to download for free now, and it’s bringing more than just the Czar of Halloween to the island.

\n

Animal Crossing patch 1.5 paves the way for Halloween by adding Candy as an item players can purchase from the Nooklings’ store and pumpkins as growable DIY fodder.

\n

The patch 1.5 trailer shows players planting, watering, and harvesting at least four different pumpkin varieties and then using them in various Halloween-themed DIY recipes.

\n

On Halloween night (October 31), Jack himself visits the island. It’s not clear yet what he requires of the player, but all the residents will be lurking about, asking for Candy and showing off their costumes.

\n

The patch adds new skin tone options for players to look their creepy best as well. We’ll update with more information about what New Horizons Halloween brings to the table as it becomes available.

Monster Hunter: World Iceborne — Fun Fright Fest

\n

Capcom’s brewing up a special Monster Hunter: World Iceborne Halloween event called the Fun Fright Fest, part of the hefty Title Update 5. It runs from October 15 at 8 p.m. EST through November 5 at the same time and is exclusive to the expansion.

\n

The Autumn Harvest Fest is returning to the base Monster Hunter: World game, but Capcom hasn’t said much about it yet.

\n

Fun Fright Fest (starting at 7:06 in the above trailer) sees the Seliana Gathering Hub decked out with spooky furnishings, and the handler dons a Cute Demoness outfit to celebrate the occasion. There are two special ticket types to collect during the event and trade in for loot: the Fun Fright Ticket and the VIP Fun Fright Ticket.

\n

The former get doled out as daily login bonuses for the MHW Halloween event and can be used to craft armor with Decoration slots. Players can exchange the latter for in-game decorations and Layered Armor, but these are only available as random item drops. Both ticket types can be exchanged for Melding Tickets too.

\n

There’s at least one new set of armor coming to the Fun Fright Fest, Demon Lord Alpha+. Wearing pieces of this armor set increases the chance of getting VIP Fun Fright Tickets.

\n

Capcom may reveal more about Monster Hunter: World Iceborne’s Fun Fright Fest as the start date approaches, and we’ll update if that happens.

Killing Floor 2: Infernal Insurrection

\n

It wouldn’t be Halloween without Killing Floor 2’s annual Halloween celebrations, and 2020 is no different. This year’s Halloween event is Killing Floor 2: Infernal Insurrection, and it brings treats galore, including new weapons, maps, and cosmetics.

\n

Infernal Insurrection’s new map is Hallmark Station, a twisted take on London’s famous King’s Cross Station. Hallmark Station has been overrun by zeds, of course, and players must team up with fellow mercenaries to take down the demonic threat. Hellmark Station includes Survival, Endless, and Weekly modes.

\n

Two new HRG weapons make their debut in Killing Floor 2’s Halloween event.

\n
    \n
  • HRG Scorcher (Firebug class bonus) — a flare gun that marks targets by setting them on fire
  • \n
  • HRG Arc Generator (Survivalist class bonus) — fires EMP blasts in short bursts or powerful charges
  • \n
\n

From now until November 10, Killing Floor 2 is also introducing a number of Halloween events, objectives, bonuses, and cosmetics.

From now until November 1, players can decorate hospitals with Halloween bits and bobs, listening to scary music over the hospital PA, and duck boisterous bats in the hallways.

\n

Certain illnesses will even get Halloween-themed updates, such as Lightheadedness getting renamed Firghtheadedness, with patients sprouting pumpkins for heads instead of lightbulbs.

\n

those who don't already own the game can grab it for 66% off on Steam until November 1.

The 1.4 update includes myriad fixes to combat, weapons, armor, items, and more. It even squashes a few pesky bugs. But(!), it doesn't squash spiders, which feature heavily in because Halloween.

Gears 5: Pumpkin Ball and More

\n

Gears 5 is bringing Pumpkin Ball back for Halloween this year, which is basically a pumpkin version of dodgeball, and it's also giving you the chance to earn a special Frankenstein skin by winning 13 matches of Pumpkin Ball before the event ends on November 4.

\n

This isn't your typical game of dodge, er, Pumpkin Ball, though. Players automatically revive unless you target specific, zombie-like weak points, including the head or the universal weakness to massive explosions.

The event started on October 22, with more planned sometime this week as well, so stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Elder Scrolls Online: The Witches Festival

\n

The Witches Festival returns once more in Elder Scrolls Online, bringing with it a gaggle of ghoulish goodies for your Halloween pleasure. The event starts October 24 at 10am EST and ends November 4 at the same time.

\n

One way to get the party started is earning tons more XP, and to do that, you'll need to complete "The Witchmother's Bargain" quest from the Crown store then use the Whistle you get as a reward.

\n

The Witches Festival has plenty more on offer as well, including Festival-themed collectibles and costumes, Dremora Plunder Skulls (complete with new items) earned through defeating special bosses once per day, and the Glenmoril Armor set.

Mario Kart Tour Halloween Event

\n

Mario Kart Tour is joining in the spooky fun this season, with some sort of Halloween event centered around a Luigi's Mansion course. The official tweet announcing the event only said we can get tricks and treats out of it.

\n\n

Sort of unrelated to the event, but not really because it is Luigi's Mansion after all, is the announcement that Luigi is coming to Mario Kart Tour as of now. (Apparently, he lost his keys and couldn't get there when the game first launched).

\n

Much to Luigi's undoubted dismay, the Halloween event is adding King Boo as a playable character too.

Don't Starve: Hallowed Nights 2019

\n

Klei Entertainment's lovable death simulator Don't Starve Together's Halloween 2019 event is the return of Hallowed Nights, starting October 24. The Klei blog post announcing the event's return said it'll largely include the same things as last year, with a few new treats and tricks.

\n

That means Candy items, Halloween Decorations, and Trinkets you can give to the Pig King for Candy. Candy is good in Don't Starve, because unlike other food items, it never spoils.

\n

Last year's Hallowed Nights also introduced the Mad Science Lab, where you could engineer a number of potions with a variety of positive effects — but at the expense of your sanity.

\n

Though not technically part of Hallowed Nights, October 24 is when we'll see Wurt the Merm make her debut in Don't Starve as well.

First is the Trick or Treasure! Facility Event, which introduces Nightmare difficulty, new items to obtain, and more. It's accompanied by a new set of Daily and Live Endeavors that'll run through October 31 as well.

\n

Thanks to Perfectly-Nintendo distilling the patch notes, we also know the special Halloween Fantasia summoning event will include the following:

\n
    \n
  • Halloween Mym (Adventurer)
  • \n
  • Halloween Maritimus (Dragon)
  • \n
  • Halloween Lowen (Adventurer)
  • \n

Sea of Thieves: Fort of the Damned

\n

Things are taking a decidedly spooky turn for Xbox One and Windows 10 players this month in Sea of Thieves. The game's monthly content update this time around is, naturally, Halloween related, and it's no barebones update either.

\n

Old Boot Fort has been overrun by the forces of evil, turning it into the Fort of the Damned, managed by the Shadow of Fate Skeletons.

\n

This fort can be activated as long as the requirements are met, and it brings with it new Voyages, new Contracts from Duke, and some big rewards. More importantly, these additions aren't just for October; they'll continue on as a permanent part of the game.

\n

There'll also be new arena rules, new items and pets from the Emporium, and even a new way to play Shanties. The full details are here.

Fallout '76 Mischief Night

\n

Fallout '76's Halloween event this year is Mischief Night, letting you take full advantage of the day to wreak utter havoc on Whitespring. Mischief Night kicks off at noon EST on October 26 and runs until the same time on November 5, and it begins "every hour, on the hour." It's a public event, which means free fast travel too.

\n

You'll start off at the Mischief Pyre near the Springhouse Gazebo, and after hearing about the rogue Eyebot JES-2R's dark plans, you're in for a quick tour of the resort area.

\n

From there, you can destroy property and vehicles, vandalize buildings, risk getting tricked at one of the treat bowls, and basically do whatever your little black heart desires — as long as the Whitespring Elite Security Force doesn't catch you.

\n

Complete JES-2R's missions to earn rewards, and wearing or crafting your own costume helps further your progress towards unlockables.

For Honor's Otherworld 2019 Event

\n

For the past two years, Ubisoft's For Honor has hosted an event centering around the Otherworld concept, with plenty of spooky challenges, quests, special rewards, Halloween versions of familiar characters, and of course, loads of lootable gear.

\n

The event usually runs well beyond Halloween too. As yet, like with many others, there aren't any concrete details about For Honor's Halloween event, but we'll update as soon as we find out more.

Hearthstone Hallow's End: Doom in the Tomb

\n

Blizzard finally lifted the lid on Hearthstone's Hallow's End 2019 event. This year's special Halloween event is Doom in the Tomb; it starts October 8 at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT and runs for three weeks until October 30 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

\n

As always, there'll be unique Tavern Brawls with rewards for completing missions under a certain time, plus trials in the Haunted Temple for both good and E.V.I.L. to overcome. Naturally, the Headless Horseman will be making his appearance as well.

\n

Some of the Tomb's treasures might seem familiar to longtime players as well, with classic cards like the Druid, Imp Gang Boss, and Imp Burglard making a return.

\n

Tripwire Studios' Killing Floor 2 Halloween event is already underway, with the launch of Grim Treatments earlier this month.

League of Legends The Harrowing 2019

\n

The Harrowing is basically an institution in League of Legends. It's a yearly fright-fest that ties in with the game's lore, focusing on the Black Mist and, well, death. Because it's Halloween.

\n

The big draw in The Harrowing tends to be the special Champion skins on offer, plus various ranks of gear, and plenty of other additions to get you in the Halloween spirit.

So far, there's absolutely nothing about this year's Harrowing, but since we're well into October now, that'll likely change soon.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween Event

\n

There will, in fact, be a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween event this year. Shared on EA Star Wars' official Twitter account, the event will begin on October 23 and end on October 31.

Dead by Daylight Withering Blight Event

\n

This year's Dead by Daylight Hallowed Blight event, called Withering Blight, was leaked during the Stranger Things event over the summer. That said, only the existence of the Halloween event was leaked. Since then, we've learned a little bit more.

\n

The event will run from October 22 to November 1. Not only will it bring "spooky decorations" to the world of Dead by Daylight, but items from Halloweens past, including:

\n
    \n
  • The Will O' Wisp flashlight
  • \n
  • The All Hallows' Eve lunchbox
  • \n
  • The Pustula Petals offering
  • \n
\n

Per the game's official blog:

\n
\n

You can find these limited-time items scattered throughout newly generated Bloodwebs and in chests for the duration of the event. You will keep any leftover items and be able to use them year round, but be warned: Any unused Pustula Petals will stay in your inventory, but will not be useable after the event period.

\n

Following feedback from the Hallowed Blight event last year, Pustula Petals will instead create a pair of event Hooks and Generators for each Offering used. Survivors who burn one of these Offerings will receive bonus Bloodpoints whenever an event Generator is powered, and Killers receive a bonus each time a Survivor is hooked on a special event Hook. If you don’t burn an Offering, you’ll still receive some bonus Bloodpoints, but not as many as those who do.

\n
\n

The event will also bring new challenges and rewards to Dead by Daylight. Putrid Serum will be a new currency for the event, which can be used to acquire cosmetics. Though there are a finite number of these items in the event, finding them all will net you "six hallowed cosmetics."

\n

Last year's event featured an adrenaline-filled rush to gather antitoxins to fend off an army of mutated creatures bent on destroying everything in sight, plus the slightly less tense inclusion of new items and gear.

Rainbow Six Siege Halloween Event

\n

Last year, Ubisoft treated us to the Mad House Halloween event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and while the company's been silent so far about this year's Halloween event, a set of rather frightening looking skins was recently leaked.

\n

obutu3_ posted a video on YouTube showing off new skins for Doc, Ela, and Vigil, among others, all of which are pretty obviously meant for Halloween.

\n

If it's anything like last year, expect to see plenty of Halloween decorations around the Rainbow Six Siege world and, hopefully, see the previous year's skins available again as well.

Call of Duty Halloween 2019

\n

Just like we can count on a new Call of Duty game every year, we can count on a Call of Duty Halloween event, too. Only — Activision hasn't announced one yet.

\n

Last year's was all about Black Ops, and the year before focused on Infinite Warfare. This year saw Call of Duty Mobile finally launch, so it's possible any new event could center around that since Modern Warfare won't release until October 25. Of course, we could also see something in Black Ops 4 ...

\n

Either way, these usually involve the same thing: new skins, stickers, and gear, all won through reaching specific tier levels and completing certain missions.

\n

Stay tuned for more.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Halloween Event

\n

Harry Potter and Halloween are perfect matches for each other, not least because something interesting — or deadly — always happens on Halloween.

\n

Hogwarts Mystery will be no different this year. The game's official Twitter account teased the game's Dark Arts Month earlier this month on Twitter.

\n\n

We know what's going on with Wizards Unite, but we're still in the dark about Hogwarts

PUBG Halloween 2019

\n

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is getting a special set of Halloween skins this year. They're pretty much what you'd expect from Halloween costumes, too, ranging from The Wizard of Oz-themed Kansas and Scarecrow sets to pirate gear, and more, though the, er, happy Lion costume has received some changes since it first launched.

\n

These costumes will all be sold individually and can be bought as sets for a discount.

Rocket League Haunted Hallows

\n

Psyonix has revealed new information regarding Rocket League's Halloween 2019 event. This year, things get a little peculiar with the game's Stranger Things crossover during the Haunted Hallows event.

\n

The Farmstead map gets transformed into the Upside-Down, reminiscent of the opening portions from Stranger Things Season 2. The map is now steeped in red with the Mind Flayer lurking in the background.

\n

The event runs from October 14 to November 11. During that time, players can earn unique toppers, banners, titles, decals, avatar borders and more. These fiendish flourishes will be available for a certain number of Candy Corn, which players can earn by playing matches.

\n

There are even golden pumpkins that hold special surprises.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright

\n

Respawn Entertainment will be adding a bevy of Halloween goodies and tweaks to Apex Legends with the first ever Fight or Fright event, starting October 15 and running through until November 5.

\n

Fight or Fright introduces new cosmetic items for weapons and Legends, some of which can be obtained through completing special, limited-time challenge missions.

Legends who fall in battle will be reborn as zombies and receive new abilities, like a vicious melee attack and, in true Titanfall fashion, the ability to run up walls.

Once the field only has 10 living Legends left, the game changes to an escape mode. It's a race for the 10 Legends to make it to the evacuation ship while the undead zombie Legends do all they can to stop the evacuation from happening.

Bloodborne: The Official Return to Yharnam

\n

Bloodborne's Halloween event is fully organized by the Bloodborne fan community. It's an unofficial official event (just go with it), and rules are determined on the Bloodborne sub-reddit based on which suggestions get the most upvotes.

Currently, the rules include choosing and creating a specific costume, like the Grim Reaper or Masked Hoonter, and using the invasion and resonance bells as often as possible.

Tripwire Announces Killing Floor Double Feature For PlayStation 4 https://www.gameskinny.com/gajmy/tripwire-announces-killing-floor-double-feature-for-playstation-4 https://www.gameskinny.com/gajmy/tripwire-announces-killing-floor-double-feature-for-playstation-4 Thu, 21 Mar 2019 11:19:33 -0400 QuintLyn

In May, Tripwire Interactive will bring a special Killing Floor experience exclusively to PlayStation 4. The company has partnered with publisher Deep Silver to introduce Killing Floor: Double Feature, a bundle containing Killing Floor 2 for the PlayStation 4 and Killing Floor: Incursion for PlayStation VR.

The set will release on May 21 and will cost $39.99. The retail version of the bundle also comes with a playable character DLC for Mrs. Foster, a character loved by Killing Floor 2 fans, as well as all the Seasonal Content released since the game launched in 2016.

The idea is to give those who have never played the series before the (currently) complete experience right away. Of course, more content continues to be released for the game, so there will be even more to do and add later on.

Killing Floor 2 tells the "story" of an unlikely group of civilians, soldiers, and mercenaries working together to fight off specimen clones called Zeds following an outbreak at Horzine Biotech, a British research corporation.

Players choose between various classes, use a wide range of weapons, and customize their characters to fit their playstyle. The game supports six players in Survival Mode and 12 in Versus Survival.

Killing Floor: Incursion cannot be played without PSVR. It features a campaign mode and multiplayer VR support. It also features a Hold Out mode, which is similar to an endless horde mode.

Killing Floor Double Feature will be available to purchase via the PlayStation Store and other retail stores May 21.

Killing Floor 2 -- Twisted Christmas: Season's Beatings

\n

Killing Floor has tons of new content for its players this season with Season’s Beatings.

\n

Play as killer Santa Clause as you slice through zeds and take on Krampus to reclaim your workshop on the new map Santa’s Workshop.

\n

You can also fight the crowds of Black Friday zeds in the new map Shopping Spree. On top of that, use an arsenal of new weapons which include Krampus Battle Axe, M32 Grenade Launcher, Fire Axe, and the Road Redeemer.

\n

Oh, and did we mention that the one and only Gary Busey voices Badass Santa? That alone is worth checking out.

Rocket League -- Frosty Fest

\n

No official announcements have been made regarding Rocket League’s Frosty Fest. However, last year’s event ran from December 11 to January 2, and it brought all sorts of antennas, toppers, wheels, rocket boosts, and decals.

\n

Playing various matches, including hockey, rewards players with snowflakes, used to obtain new holiday content.

\n

While we wait for the Frosty Fest to return, we can still look forward to the recent Rocket Pass 2 announcement, which will be available starting December 10. Buying a premium upgrade for this pass ($9.99) will include the new Artemis Battle-Car.

Fortnite -- Winter Royale: Season 7

\n

Winter Royale will officially dropped on December 6 and the seventh season has brought all sorts of holiday-themed themed content. Remember, however, this content comes at a price. You must purchase the battle pass for exclusive tier content, primarily skins.

\n

Some of these new skins include:

\n
    \n
  • Srg. Winter -- A ripped and battle worn version of santa
  • \n
  • Yetti -- A blue skinned monster with white fur and crossed eyes.
  • \n
  • Pajama -- A burger onesie complete with slippers and a googly eyed hood.
  • \n
  • Lynx -- A legendary sleek cat suit.
  • \n
  • The Ice King -- Another legendary skin of a cloaked man with glowing blue eyes and icy boots.
  • \n
\n

Once jumping from the bus with your new skin and gear, you’ll find the map coated in snow and ice to fit the season.

Destiny 2 -- Dawning

\n

Destiny 2’s Dawning event will be returning once again this year, but at a later time that it’s previous release.

\n

The official start date will be December 11, but no end date is currently in sight. You’ll find the farm and tower decorated, Dawning engrams, game modes, and quests.

\n

Though there are few announcements on what to anticipate in this year’s Dawning event, there may be returning game modes and content. Be sure you check into the Crucible once the event is released because the developers may bring back last year’s Mayhem PvP mode, which lowered cooldowns for intense and fast-paced matches.

\n

Another added feature were snowball fights. It is likely you will be able to pummel your friends and enemies with snowballs both inside and outside matches.

\n

New quests and milestones usually come with the winter updates, and though there are no official announcements on what they could entail (outside of confirmed powerful gear drops), rumors suggest it could be centered around Eva Levante.

\n

Rewards and engrams for the crucible, strike, and quests are bound to contain themed armor, weapons, shaders, and more.

Overwatch -- Winter Wonderland

\n

It’s round three for Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland event, so here’s what you should expect as far as game modes, skins, loot boxes, and environmental map changes.

\n

This update will be active December 11 to January 2, but for those of you who have added new game modes to your wish list, you may be disappointed.

\n

The Overwatch team has expressed that they will not be adding new game modes for events this year and will instead bring back recurring seasonal game modes while focusing on new heroes and balancing current ones.

\n

This means we will most likely be seeing “Mei’s Snowball Offensive” on Ecopoint: Antarctica and 2017’s “Yetti Hunter” on Nepal return to the arcade for the winter season.

\n

However, some of the maps will be adjusted to fit the holidays. The locations that will be festive and decorated with snow, lights, and trees this year include Blizzard World and King’s Row.

\n

Along with these game modes and environment changes, be prepared for new legendary and epic skins, one of which Overwatch has already announced as Zarya’s Snowboarder Legendary skin, equipped with furry bear hat and tail.

\n

This year’s previous Halloween Terror event brought with it nine new skins, so players can expect a similar turnout for 2018’s Winter Wonderland. Loot boxes are also bound to contain seasonally themed sprays, emotes, highlights, and voice lines.

Monster Hunter World -- Winter Star Fest

\n

Capcom is joining the festivities this year with their latest update for Monster Hunter: World, the Winter Star Fest. Log in each day between November 30 and December 17 for rewards, consumables, quests, costumes, emotes, and festivities.

\n

Celebrate the season at the The Celestial Pursuit, which is decked with cascading lights and ornaments. NPC characters also don winter wear to match the holiday spirit.

\n

Along with changes to the environment, you will find new gear for your hunter. Every day that you jump into the game, you will be gifted with Winter Star tickets. Gathering star tickets will allow you the craft the new Orion winter gear for your journey, along with adorable snowcat costumes for your paleco and sweaters for your pig, Poogie

If you missed special event quests throughout the year, you will now be able to seek them out again since the star fest is bringing back old and new quests for players. Be sure to keep up with the winter schedule here to avoid missing opportunities.

Sleigh bells ring in the distance. Gamer’s rage, but we won’t listen. It’s a beautiful site. We’re happy tonight. Season events are coming 'round again.

\n

December is here -- and you know what that means. Holiday events are back on our PC’s and consoles this month with new winter and Christmas updates. It’s time to dive back into those games we love and spend these cold days wrapped in a warm blanket with a steamy cup of coffee.

\n

Let's warm up, boot up, and level up.

For my family, October is all about the frights. It's nothing but Outlast, Call Of Cthulhu, Costume Quest for the little one, and a horde of horror flicks. When we're done binge-watching the latest Netflix horror series, it's time to dim the lights, pull out the controllers, and start screaming.

You don't have to love scary games to get into the Halloween action though, as MMORPGs, freemium mobile games, and AAA shooters are all kicking off special spooky events.

Halloween Event Haunts Killing Floor 2, Brings Road Redemption Crossover https://www.gameskinny.com/j5er8/halloween-event-haunts-killing-floor-2-brings-road-redemption-crossover https://www.gameskinny.com/j5er8/halloween-event-haunts-killing-floor-2-brings-road-redemption-crossover Wed, 03 Oct 2018 11:35:39 -0400 Jonathan Moore

Halloween's almost here and the walking Zed are on the prowl in Killing Floor 2's limited-time Monster Masquerade event

Released yesterday as a free update for consoles and PC, Monster Masquerade brings a new map to the game in Monster Ball, which takes place in Hans Volter's Transylvanian castle full of flamethrower traps, spiked pits, and dance floors.

You'll also find new weapons in your arsenal for the Commando, Field Medic, and Sharpshooter, as well as event-exclusive items and cosmetics to collect.

The soundtrack has been tweaked to add new, grisly tunes to the main menu, in-game action, and trader menu, while specimen clones and bosses alike will get macabre makeovers with new models and effects during the event.

Rounding out the gruesome giblet action, Tripwire has also pushed out a few bug fixes and matchmaking improvements.

As if all of that weren't enough, Tripwire also pushed out an exclusive crossover event between Killing Floor 2 and Road Redemption.

As of yesterday, players who own both games on Steam can take part in the free event: Killing Floor 2 players can get their bloody hands on the Road Redeemer, a barbed-wire covered baseball bat perfect for busting specimen skulls, while Road Redemption players will ride the badlands with Hans Volter and DJ Skully.

The crossover event will be available for PS4 and Xbox One players later this year when Road Redemption launches on console. As of this writing, Tripwire did not specify an exact release date for the game on those platforms.

So what are you waiting for? Rev your engines, strap on your Mask of the Abyss, and take advantage of these limited time events from now until November 9.

Another month has gone by, and for Playstation Plus subscribers, that means another batch of free games fresh out of the PSN library.

On the PS4, gamers will be able to download Killing Floor 2 and Life is Strange, while on PS3, Abyss Odyssey and WRC 5: World Rally Championship will be available.

On PlayStation Vita, players will have access to Neon Chrome and Spy Chameleon. Both PS Vita games are crossbuy with PlayStation 4 and can be claimed and played on PS4 for free as well.

Don't forget to download last month's PS Plus free games. And remember, if you don't want a free game now, you can just add it to your library without downloading it.

Killing Floor 2 is a co-op first-person shooter in which you and up to seven other players are tasked with surviving and killing waves upon waves of zombies, leading up to a boss in each level.

Life is Strange is a Telltale-esque third-person story-driven game in which you follow Max, a student photographer, who discovers she has the power to rewind time. This five-part episodic adventure follows Max through twists and turns as she tries to prevent her home town from being destroyed.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news on PlayStation 4 and PSN.

Top 5 Most Bizarre Christmas Themed Levels in Video Games https://www.gameskinny.com/mwtzy/top-5-most-bizarre-christmas-themed-levels-in-video-games https://www.gameskinny.com/mwtzy/top-5-most-bizarre-christmas-themed-levels-in-video-games Tue, 13 Dec 2016 06:56:00 -0500 Unclepulky

Christmas!!

No matter what you believe in or what your background is, Christmas is a time when people can set aside their differences and just be kind to each other. A time where families can come together -- and in certain cases, play video games.

Speaking of video games, our favorite form of immersive entertainment occasionally features Christmas-themed levels and environments. And while some display the beauty of the holiday and Winter as a whole, others are just weird. So of course, we want to look at the weirdest of the weird.

Here are the top five most bizarre Christmas-themed levels we've ever seen in video games.

5. Any Level Where You Play as Santa Claus

Happy Wheels

I'm sort of starting off by cheating, but I find this just too sad and hilarious to exclude.

In the flash game Happy Wheels, a rag doll physics game, you can play as an assortment of characters through a variety of levels. These levels are of varying quality, seeing as they're player made. One of these characters is Saint Nick himself.

And frankly, it's just surreal to see Santa driving a sleigh pulled by suffering elves, and watching them all tumble around and go through an immense amount of pain.

Happy Wheels: putting a whole new spin on Santa using slave labor.

4. Christmas Town

Kingdom Hearts 2

Given that it's straight from the superb film The Nightmare Before Christmas, the contents of this world in Kingdom Hearts 2 are pretty strange.

As Sora in Halloween Town, you get to interact with all of your favorite characters from the movie -- plus Lock, Shock, and Barrel.

On the bright side, you at least get to hit these twerps with a giant key.

During your stay here, you'll be surrounded by basic aesthetic elements of Christmas everywhere you go. Snow, bright, colorful lights, candy canes, etc.

However, this being Kingdom Hearts, a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy, you'll also be fighting a variety of Heartless and Nobodies, as well as a giant monster created by Dr. Finkelstein.

Most bizarre of all? Something remotely interesting happens with Sora's character, as he question his belief in Santa Claus. While it's nothing special or too deep, it's one of the few times in the whole series we've seen Sora deal with an internal conflict.

3. Die Hard and Die Hard 2

Die Hard Trilogy

There are two kinds of people.

People who think Die Hard is a Christmas movie. And people who are wrong.

Die Hard Trilogy is an interesting title, as it consists of three different games, each based on one of the three first Die Hard movies, and each with a different gameplay style. While Die Hard 3 abandoned the tradition, the first two movies -- and subsequently, the first two games -- are set around Christmas.

In the third-person shooter game based off the first movie, you go around shooting terrorists and rescuing hostages. In the on-rails shooter game based off the second movie, Die Harder, you get to shoot even more terrorists, but this time with the option of doing so with a light gun that plugged right into your system.

Nothing shouts "Christmas" more than shooting virtual terrorists with a piece of plastic.

2. Twisted Christmas

Killing Floor 2

Killing Floor 2 is a mediocre FPS with rather fun gameplay, but little to no story to speak of. For the most part, it's just you and your friends shooting monsters.

One of the notable things about the game, though, are the Twisted Christmas events.

During these events, there are new playable characters, Christmas themed tunes are added to the soundtrack, and all of the gruesome specimens get even more horrifying Christmas-themed skins.

While the skins don't change the way the enemies function, their designs are just so bizarre and imaginative that I can't help but love them.

1. Nuclear Winter

Duke Nukem 3D

Topping off the list, we have the Nuclear Winter expansion pack of Duke Nukem 3D.

While the previous entries have all featured elements which made them weird, the plot of this game is about as over-the-top as you can get for a Christmas story.

In this game, Santa Claus is captured and brainwashed by the alien maggots from the original Duke Nukem 3D. This time though, they are supported by a new enemy force known as the Feminist Elven Militia. So Duke has to travel to the North Pole is order to stop the brainwashed Santa and the two villainous factions from wreaking havoc on the world.

This is simultaneously the stupidest and the greatest plot to any story I've ever heard.God bless you Duke Nukem, you glorious product of the 90's.

And God bless us, every one.

I think I've just come up with a new idea:

A Christmas Carol: Starring Duke Nukem

5 Winter-Based Games to Keep You Cool This Summer https://www.gameskinny.com/fonpg/5-winter-based-games-to-keep-you-cool-this-summer https://www.gameskinny.com/fonpg/5-winter-based-games-to-keep-you-cool-this-summer Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:21:47 -0400 Brandon Morgan

Depending on where you currently live, the warm summer months may be a tad bit unbearable. Where I'm located, it generally reaches an excess of one-hundred degrees, so I can relate to what some are experiencing. Thankfully, being the savvy gamers that we all are, there are a few winter-based games out in the wild that should keep our entire mindset a bit cooler overall.

These games all feature a winter setting or, at the very least, some significant snow in more than a single level. Just looking at the cool, white powder will make you want to dive head-first into the plumes.

Let's cool down!

Snow

Snow, a free-to-play, open-world game based solely around winter sports -- including snowboarding and skiing -- is, quite possibly, one of the most massive winter games available right now.

The entire experience is set on a single massive mountain, where players can customize their in-game clothing from real-world brands, strap into a board or a pair of skis, and race down the slopes with a cool rush of air.

Developer Poppermost Productions worked in a lot of intricate details to ensure the experience was both realistic and worthwhile to the avid winter sports enthusiast. Today, the free-to-play game features quite a few DLC packs, multiplayer, and they even promise an upcoming level editor to keep things fresh.

Lost Planet 3

Lost Planet 3 currently has mixed reviews on Steam, but the winter setting alone is worthy of your time. The massive icescapes, the snowy fields, and of course the giant monsters trying to rip you to shreds are all worth a visit during a hot summer day.

You won't just be wandering through snow banks and flurries, though, as both on-foot battles and mech combat are included within this particular experience. Top that off with a huge multiplayer versus mode and you have yourself a winter wonderland.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft, specifically the Storm Peaks, are a wonderful addition to this particular list. Anyone who has traveled through Azeroth knows of the snowy peaks, the ice-laden areas, and the frozen ice giants canvassing the area for new players to chew on.

Of course, your trip wouldn't be complete without a little hike into the high palace of Loken, far atop the peaks of the mountains. The music alone, which may not exactly be festive, is well worth the trip.

Killing Floor 2

You're probably thinking that Killing Floor 2 is too frantic and fast-paced for a relaxing summer day, but you'd be wrong. There is one level of the game -- Outpost -- set in a snowy wonderland filled to the brim with monstrosities and automatic weapons fire.

The snow may not be the most beautiful of any game and the ice spikes hanging from the various buildings do appear quite daunting. However, when you pull out a rocket launcher and begin blasting creatures, all of the white powder will become covered in nothing but red goop.

It is both satisfying and cold.

Star Wars: Battlefront

I would be amiss not to include the Hoth level of Star Wars: Battlefront, which is nothing more than an entire planet covered in snow and suspended in an everlasting winter. Soldiers don their white clothing and armor to hide amongst the plumes of snow caught in the wind, the red blaster fire streaks through the air, providing a stark contrast to all of the white snow.

Overall, Star Wars: Battlefront may be a hit-or-miss game for many, but you cannot deny the cold depths of Hoth are not relaxing and chilling to the bone -- in a good way, of course.

These are just five video games that offer a lot of snow for when you're feeling overly hot from the summer months. Take a quick trip through any of these and feel your mind let loose.

Killing Floor 2 "Bulls-Eye" Content Pack and VR Game Shown at E3 PC Gaming Show 2016 https://www.gameskinny.com/q2w5b/killing-floor-2-bulls-eye-content-pack-and-vr-game-shown-at-e3-pc-gaming-show-2016 https://www.gameskinny.com/q2w5b/killing-floor-2-bulls-eye-content-pack-and-vr-game-shown-at-e3-pc-gaming-show-2016 Tue, 14 Jun 2016 05:13:09 -0400 Pierre Fouquet

During the E3 PC Gaming Show, John Gibson, President of Tripwire Interactive, shuffled onto to stage to reveal details about an upcoming "Bulls-Eye" content pack for the still-in-Early-Access game, Killing Floor 2.

"Bulls-Eye" gives players more weapons (like a new railgun), more ways to kill Zeds (the monsters), and, for the first time without mods, you can play as the Zeds. Also announced was a new perk called Sharpshooter, and so was a new character named Rae Higgins -- blonde woman with a bun, red dress, and presumably heels. Not the best combination when trying to kill Zeds, but you do look stylish while doing it.

"Bulls-Eye" will also be the start of Tripwire taking the best community maps, polishing them up, and then turning them into official maps. These maps come from the Grindhouse mapping contest, which ended in February 2016, with Containment Station being the first to release. The "Bulls-Eye" update is live right now, with a free Killing Floor 2 weekend from Thursday June 16th, till the following Monday.

Killing Floor 2 is aiming to come out of Early Access in the fall of 2016.

Also briefly shown off is Killing Floor: Incursion, a VR game coming to Oculus touch. Gibson emphasized that this is an entirely new game built for VR headsets, with the Touch controllers in mind.

Zeds vs. Survivors coming to Killing Floor 2 https://www.gameskinny.com/3te2o/zeds-vs-survivors-coming-to-killing-floor-2 https://www.gameskinny.com/3te2o/zeds-vs-survivors-coming-to-killing-floor-2 Fri, 25 Mar 2016 14:05:32 -0400 Ian Ilano

Tripwire, the company behind the zombie survival shooter, Killing Floor 2, has just announced the development of Versus Survival — a new player vs. player game mode.

Released last year, Killing Floor 2 has been a little slow in receiving updates. The development team has taken quite a bit a time to address the various bugs and balance issues that plague the current version of the game. It's been a year since release and we have still yet to see a decent amount of new content. But finally, the wait pays off. When the next update releases, players will get the chance to play as one of the eleven Zed characters.

Sound familiar?

Left 4 Dead had a similar survival game mode. Four players would play as the Infected, and four would play as the Survivors. Simply put, the primary goal of the Infected was to make the Survivors' journey to the safe-house a living hell. I have often attributed this game mode to Left 4 Dead's longevity — it was fun. There was a lot of enjoyment to get from strangling another player with my tongue, or knocking them off of hospital rooftops.

It looks like Killing Floor 2 will be following that same formula. Players will be able to choose from eleven different Zeds — each coming with their own unique abilities and play-style.

As of now, there isn't much we know about the game mode. All we do know is that it is currently in development, and that there will be eleven different Zeds to choose from. But keep your eyes peeled, this is definitely something to look out for.

Game of The Year Intern's Pick: Killing Floor 2 https://www.gameskinny.com/38vda/game-of-the-year-interns-pick-killing-floor-2 https://www.gameskinny.com/38vda/game-of-the-year-interns-pick-killing-floor-2 Fri, 11 Dec 2015 03:06:58 -0500 Dennis Adame

2015 has been a great year for games, Hotline Miami 2, Fallout 4, Rise of The Tomb Raider, Life is Strange and my pick for Game of The Year, Killing Floor 2. Killing Floor 2 has a certain charm that just has a way of getting players hooked. From the over the top blood and guts, to the hard boss fights to the great co-op experience, this game has a lot to offer players for almost half the price of other games. The game is available on PlayStation 4 and on PC, sorry Xbox fans.

Gameplay

The idea of the game is simple, you and your team must survive wave after wave of Zeds (think zombie monster things). Depending on the difficulty each wave could throw anywhere from 20 to over 150 Zeds at you and your team. There are also special Zeds like the Bloat, the Siren, the Husk, the Scrake and the Fleshpound. Each one has a unique weapon or ability, but they all have one thing in common; they all want to kill you. The game relies on you and your team working together to prevent that.

It can be very easy to be surrounded by Zeds when you decide to run off on your own. After each wave of Zeds, you and your teammates will have one minute to regroup, buy new guns and ammo, heal up, and prepare for the next wave of Zeds. The very last wave is the boss wave; an enemy that is so tough he can wipe out your whole team in less than a minute you're not ready. The boss can only be taken down if you work together and everyone does their part.

The Classes

The game offers players six different classes to pick from, Berserker, Commando, Support, Field Medic, Fire Bug, Demolition, and the newest addition to the game, the Gunslinger. Each class has its own perks, a specific kind of grenade, and its own selection of guns for players to choose from.  As you and your team survive each round of the game you earn Dosh, which can then be used to buy more ammo, armor, new guns or grenades. When playing the game its best to have a rounded team with varied classes. It actually helps a lot to have each person be a different class unlike other games where it doesn’t really matter.

What Makes it so Great

For the price of $29.99, you are really getting a lot of bang for your buck with this game. The game is still in early access so you do need to keep that in mind, but it will have you and your friends yelling at your screen, laughing at one another as you die, and asking one another for help as you are surrounded by Zeds.

If you and your friends are a fan of first person shooters like Left 4 Dead, Halo, and Call of Duty World at War Zombies mode, then this is truly a game you need to play. It offers players so much fun and enjoyment for a price so low it's hard to believe. The developers are also always working on improving the game for players offering new maps, players, and perks every once and a while.  With lots of fun characters, tons of cool guns, fun levels to explore and tough gameplay, this is a game that everyone should try.

New Boss and more coming to Killing Floor 2 soon https://www.gameskinny.com/vtsxo/new-boss-and-more-coming-to-killing-floor-2-soon https://www.gameskinny.com/vtsxo/new-boss-and-more-coming-to-killing-floor-2-soon Fri, 27 Nov 2015 12:11:05 -0500 Dennis Adame

If you are one of the people who is upset about the microtransactions that are coming to Killing Floor 2, Tripwire Interactive has something that might make you feel better. Coming this December, players of Killing Floor 2 will have an update to look forward to that will add a bunch of new and exciting content to the game.

The update will be called “The Return of the Patriarch Content Pack”. This free content pack that will feature some exciting things. It will include two new maps, one new perk set, six new weapons, one new playable character named Disten Jaegerhorn (unlocked by subscribing to the official KF2 group of Steam), the zed-conomy and the trading floor store (microtransactions), the return of the “The Patriarch” boss, and other features that have yet to be released.

In a recent PC Gamer interview, Alan Wilson, Vice President of Tripwire Interactive, said this about the new boss:

“Once he’s taken a bit of damage, so long as he can get away, he’ll disappear, stab himself with a healing syringe in a quiet corner, and cover his retreat by throwing a bunch of lower-level monsters at you.”

This new feature will make The Patriarch that much harder to kill, and fighting him will be like a game of cat and mouse. You will have to chase down the boss to stop him from healing himself, and at the same time kill the hordes of enemies he is spawning behind him as he runs. The Patriarch will be just like the boss from the first game, but will be larger and look a lot more mutated. He will still have a giant Gatling gun for one hand and a giant “Deathclaw” like hand for the other.

The two new maps that will be coming to Killing Floor 2 are called The Black Forest and Farmhouse. The Black Forest will be a wooded map with little streams running throughout.  The map will also feature a set of railroad tracks and a cabin -- both will help break up the woods and to act as spawn points for enemies. The second map, Farmhouse, will contain -- yep, you guessed it -- a farmhouse. The map will also have crop fields for enemies to come from (like Children of the Corn), a barn, and a hayloft. It sounds like it may be similar to the farm map that was in Killing Floor 1.

With the addition of the Patriarch, Killing Floor 2 now has two bosses, Hans and the Patriarch. Now you may be asking yourself: “How do I know which boss I will fight on each map?" Well that’s the cool thing -- you won’t. Each map will have a 50/50 chance of either boss spawning, so you and your team need to be ready for anything.

What Overkill could learn from Tripwire https://www.gameskinny.com/cqgyp/what-overkill-could-learn-from-tripwire https://www.gameskinny.com/cqgyp/what-overkill-could-learn-from-tripwire Thu, 26 Nov 2015 09:56:23 -0500 Emily Speight

Overkill’s reputation among their fanbase has been in decline of late – that much is undeniable. When this decline began is a matter for debate, but it is certain that the decline became a freefall as of last month.

For those who haven’t heard, Overkill, developers of the wildly popular co-operative shooter, Payday 2, promised publicly in 2013 that they would never implement microtransactions in their game. Then in October, during Payday 2’s annual Crimefest event, they went ahead and did so. Safes – crates to patrons of certain Valve games – were added to the game, and could only be unlocked by purchasing a drill, priced at $2.49 (a key, in other words).

The safes contained skins and items that would alter the stats of weapons – in a game where the balance had already suffered from power creep, due to a steady stream of increasingly content-thin DLC. Essentially, they transformed the game into a pay-to-win scenario. Although Payday 2 features no direct competition between players, it is still necessary to keep up with the meta in order to have a good co-op experience – particularly on higher difficulties.

Payday 2 fans have always excelled at making their grievances with Overkill well-known. The above served to galvanise the fanbase, culminating in their community moderators striking.

But it didn’t have to happen that way.

Tripwire Interactive, makers of Killing Floor, Rising Storm and its sequel, and Red Orchestra 2 have shown us a model of revenue raising that Overkill could take notes from: the Zed-conomy. Their approach is not without flaw – microtransactions in an Early Access game that’s behind schedule has raised some warranted eyebrows – but they hew much closer to a fair approach.

Let’s examine what Tripwire have done right, and what Overkill could learn from them.

Tripwire’s content is purely cosmetic

Pay to win is a term that attracts richly deserved derision; doubly so in games that are themselves not free to play. Tripwire have saved themselves a torrent of criticism by avoiding attaching statistics to their Zed-conomy update at all.

One exception exists: a “side-grade” Zweihander weapon, available to any players who own a copy of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. In their FAQ, Tripwire make their stance on this weapon and how it functions clear:

In the future we may be adding weapons with new gameplay for sale, but this will appear in the “Shared Content” area on the server. This means that, if any player on the server has a weapon (like the Chivalry Zweihander now), then every player on the server will be able to use it. No-one gets any “advantage”. Co-op game - everyone starts out equal! Our goal is for any such weapons to be side grades anyway, so they won’t provide an edge over the current tier of weapon power.

Tripwire have also taken pains to explicitly state that they will put upgrades behind paywalls. Personally, I am more inclined to take the Killing Floor 2 developers at their word, because..

Tripwire have built trust over time

Throughout the life of Killing Floor – which was made from an Unreal Tournament 4 mod into a standalone title back in 2009 – Tripwire have released cosmetic DLC. This allowed them to support the game until mid-2014, when focus shifted towards the development of Killing Floor 2.

Overkill would need a time machine to replicate this earned trust – or sweeping changes to Payday 2 and a long stretch of angelic behaviour. This, at least, is still possible, but considering an issued apology from Overkill failed to directly address the core of player grievances, it doesn’t seem too likely an outcome. Fingers crossed.

Tripwire know that players want their cosmetics

Polycount and Tripwire collaborated to run the Guns ‘n’ Gear competition, which saw players submitting their own cosmetics and weapon skins for a prize and a chance to see their creations implemented in Killing Floor 2. Entries were voted on and discussed by the community, making interest in the eventual winning items clear. Overkill’s Crimefest skins were not community made and many of them, frankly, have faces made for radio, as the phrase goes.

That being said, looks are subjective. That’s why things like man buns exist -- and mark my words: in ten years they will be seen on the same level as we see mullets now. Overkill have also flagged the possibility of accepting community-made skins in the future.

Conclusion

The Zed-conomy is not perfect, of course. The update was also initially very poorly received, due to a lack of content from Tripwire up until then. It has since been revealed that the Zed-conomy is part of a much larger content pack, easing the complaints of some fans, and there has been some acknowledgement from Tripwire regarding their poor timing in this area.

If Overkill are looking to perform damage control, taking to heart the example of Tripwire’s work on Killing Floor 2 is an excellent place to start.

Killing Floor 2 Guide: How to find all Dosh locations (including Evacuation Point and Catacombs) https://www.gameskinny.com/gz351/killing-floor-2-guide-how-to-find-all-dosh-locations-including-evacuation-point-and-catacombs https://www.gameskinny.com/gz351/killing-floor-2-guide-how-to-find-all-dosh-locations-including-evacuation-point-and-catacombs Mon, 31 Aug 2015 05:35:31 -0400 Stephanie Tang

Before we got hit with Demo and Firebug in the latest beta patch, the Tripwire Interactive devs gave us the Manor map and four extra achievements (that weren't just map completions) - Dosh Collecting!

Since the latest patch, these little bling necklaces can be found literally anywhere on (and sometimes a little ways off!) each map, including the brand new Evacuation Point and Catacombs. Quite a few of them are hidden in some fiendishly tricky locations.

There are 30 Dosh necklaces in each of the maps that you will need to destroy in order to get the following Steam achievements:

  • Paris Plunder (Burning Paris)
  • Outpost Offerings (Outpost)
  • Biotics Bling (Biotics Lab)
  • Manor Money (Volter Manor)
  • Point Paper (Evacuation Point)
  • Catacombs Cash (Catacombs)

(Note: If you've updated your game and are wondering why you can't see the new maps and/or don't have Demolitions Expert or Firebug as playable classes, keep in mind that this content was released in beta.

Right-click the game in your Steam library > Properties > Betas > Opt into the beta.)

Interested in getting them all yourself? Awesome. Feel our pain. Pick a Cyst buddy. You're going to get to know 'em very, very well.

(If you have no interest in finding these yourself and just want the answers, scroll down to the bottom!)

http://steamcommunity.com/app/1250/discussions/0/828939164185966245/

1. Make sure your team is in on it.

Hunting up Dosh is like collecting Gnomes in KF1 - it's a team effort. You'd be surprised how many PUG groups are perfectly okay with taking a time out just to help you nab an achievement - you just need to ask. Chances are (especially right now) there's at least one of them who hasn't gotten the achievement yet - even if they never pick up a single piece themselves, they'll still get the achievement just for being there.

Besides, if you're preoccupied hunting up Dosh, you're not helping the team. It's only polite to let them know.

Of course, you can always skip this by going it alone in single-player, but it can often be much more time-consuming, plus you have to be the one babysitting your chosen Cyst buddy which definitely hampers you when you're on the lookout for the necklaces behind half-open doors in a morgue or hanging from a tower off-map. (Hint, hint!)

If you're having trouble finding a group, check out the Steam forums. There are a number of threads with people setting up groups to get these done.

2. I was not kidding about the Cyst buddy.

While it's certainly possible to hunt up all of these pieces during and in between waves in a regular game of play... unless you're by yourself, it's also unlikely. Even with your team helping you out, this will be a time-consuming process as everyone checks and then re-checks the likeliest suspects about six times.

Clear out the wave and keep one Cyst alive so that the trader doesn't start the countdown before you start really hunting. You can string on this zombie buddy indefinitely until every piece is found.

I say Cyst because they're the easiest - they do the least amount of damage, are the easiest to get away from without harming them, don't do any projectile vomiting that messes with your vision, etc. You can do this with any other Zed honestly, but just be practical about it. Husks and Sirens don't make good friends.

3. Do your Dosh hunting on Beginner or Normal Difficulty.

Not only because people who play Hard+ go HAM and don't care about your achievies (you'll find people like that in any PUG, in any difficulty), but because it cuts down on at least one of your members from being able to really help you out.

Zeds in the higher difficulties are fast, and whoever's babysitting your last Zed will be out-and-out sprinting to keep ahead of them if they start running, and their class may not necessarily have any of the big movement speed boosts. No time to stop and shoot the big Ds then.

If your team wants to be badass and do it, all the more power to you. KF2 gameplay is repetitive enough that sometimes you have to make up your own fun. However, higher difficulties are unnecessary for Dosh achievements.

3. Dosh pieces are pretty spread out.

This is not to say that you're looking at 1-2 pieces of Dosh per room, but rather that they won't be directly beside each other. If you found one piece in an open locker, you don't need to go peeking through all the other locker compartments for more.

Depending on the area, you're looking at 1-2 per small room (e.g. Outpost cafeteria), 4-6 in the larger areas (e.g. starting area in Paris).

4. Think like a jerk.

Honestly. Some of the pieces are hidden in some really tricky places, so it really does help to ask yourself: if you were a TWI dev where would you hide something if you're really trying to be sneaky?

Check out badly-lit areas that you can't quite walk up to - and then be careful with your flashlight since Dosh can get lost in the glare. Look through broken windows. Check out any structures that pop up just a little off the map. If a door is slightly ajar, or there's a floor tile that's popped up just a little, examine what's inside or underneath.

Tripwire also has a sense of humor. They'll make you hunt through the gorey bits too. Check the sinks!

5. Breakable objects are client-side and don't hide Dosh.

This probably doesn't seem important, but it is. A lot of the stuff is breakable in Killing Floor 2, and that means a lot of random stuff can be broken and go flying off in random directions.

But while you may see all of this, your friends playing with you won't necessarily. And this may save you a great deal of frustration because stuff that you can break or knock down or move won't have anything hidden underneath or behind it.

Accessing all of the hidden Dosh necklaces won't require you to break anything. So, if you were thinking that there'd be a Dosh piece hiding behind one of the many (many) paintings hanging around the Volter Manor... trust me, there isn't. Take it from someone who's shot them all a la Golden Skulltula hunting in Majora's Mask

You should also keep in mind when getting trigger-happy on breakable objects: broken bits may fall down or ragdoll away to obscure your view of what you're actually looking for.

Dosh Locations

If you're still stumped or simply didn't want to bother looking for these on your own, you can find the locations of all of them in the following videos.

Please note that while I've done my fair share of hunting down these sneaky little necklaces, these video guides were not created by me. YouTuber Jason Lee is just a badass and doesn't need any of the above tips.

The Do's and Don'ts of Killing Floor 2 https://www.gameskinny.com/9ph1n/the-dos-and-donts-of-killing-floor-2 https://www.gameskinny.com/9ph1n/the-dos-and-donts-of-killing-floor-2 Sat, 16 May 2015 04:29:24 -0400 Stephanie Tang

Let's face it. Every time you have the opportunity to play with other people in a team-based game, you also have the opportunity of being a total jerk and wrecking what chances you had at winning.

While the Tripwire team has taken it upon themselves to fix some of the ways in which players could regularly troll the rest of the pub team in KF (e.g. making the trader a pod accessible from all directions and not a room where two friends could block the rest of the team from entering and buying weapons/ammo), there are still a number of things you should and shouldn't do while playing a good game of KF2.

Healing

  • DO heal each other. Even if you're not a medic. Self-heals are pretty pitiful, even as a high-level medic so do a drive-by heal on your medic when you can.
  • DO carry a heal pistol as a non-medic if you can. They only take 1 weight, are super accurate for headshots (one-shot trash mobs) when you're low on other ammo, and pick up the slack if your medic gets seperated.
  • DON'T wait until your teammates are near-dead before healing them. This gives you more XP than when you're topping them up regularly, but they are also more likely to die from your lack of care, especially when you need to start getting more mobile and Stalkers creep up in front of your darts when you least expect them. You get more XP by shooting anyway.

(The HMTech-101 Pistol. It can fire 2 medic darts per 100% charge. It will auto-lock onto a target from a very forgiving distance for hip-firing.)

Map Camping

  • DON'T make a big stink out of it if the team chooses to camp a spot that's different than your usual. There are a number of different and yet viable areas to stick around in for a while.
  • DO stick with your team as much as possible. With the current available classes, it is difficult for single players to take on a Fleshpound or Scrake on their own.
  • If you're going to wander (picking up weapons, upping your kill count where others aren't sniping them away from you), DO have a good idea when the big stuff is really coming in and how to get back. Help your team.
  • DON'T get mad if the team scatters a little so long as they rendezvous back with you once the big stuff start showing up.
  • When it's time to leave a camp spot, and leave it fast, DO let people know that you're ready to run, and try to keep an eye out behind you for anyone else who finds prudence the better part of valor.
  • DO have an exit strategy whenever you're camping out a spot. Dead ends are never a good idea.
  • DON'T camp anywhere you have Zeds dropping down on you (e.g. reception area in Biotics) although being near one isn't always a bad idea.

Zed Talk

  • DO call out a Scrake or Fleshpound sighting so that the entire team can work together against them.
  • Some classes are more effective against Sirens and Husks than others. There are more of them in this game than in KF1. DO call them out if there is someone else better equipped to deal with them (especially in Suicidal/HoE).
  • DO keep helping your teammates out by watching their backs (and exits) in Spectator Mode if you've died during a wave. Click the middle mouse button until you are in free roam to zoom around the map checking for ammo, spawns, etc.
  • DON'T give a rolling commentary. If you tell us a Scrake is coming down one hallway, and we're reacting, we heard you the first time. Scrakes are secondary to the trash around it unless it's raging.
  • DON'T yell into the mic. We can hear you, we swear.

Playing in a Team

  • DO share your money. We can see you have it. If a Berserker gets their Pulverizer early on, they are pretty much set for the whole game and can donate to the cause the easiest out of all the classes.
  • DON'T block narrow hallways by stopping and trying to shoot a Clot when your teammates are also trying to get through and escape the mob. They will block your shot, and you will block their escape route.
  • DON'T run in front of other people's line of fire (leeway is given to melee Berserkers), particularly if you're all shooting while relatively stationary in a single camp spot.
  • DON'T shoot stuff in the head right as the Berserker is swinging at them during slow-mo. If you really must tag them for the XP gain, hit them (once) somewhere else - you'll get full XP and an assist.
  • DO keep an eye out for anything that might amble in from behind (even if it's a Cyst). You want it as clear as possible to back up into when you need to reload/gain ground for a Scrake kill/etc.

 Killing Stuff

  • DON'T enrage a Scrake and then run away. Your chances of staying alive are much higher if you attempt to dodge left or right away from him rather than running away. Depending on your class, you probably won't outrun him. Also he won't hurt just you.
  • DO aim for the head on both Scrake/Fleshpound (not the chest). You can pop a Scrake's head before he rages if you don't deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time especially as a Commando. If you pop his head, he'll drop to a quarter health and won't rage.
  • DON'T magdump until the Scrake/Fleshpound rages unless your entire team is focusing one down.
  • DO EMP Scrakes and Fleshpounds as a Berserker with your grenades to stop them from raging. It may take more than one for a Fleshpound.
  • DON'T hang around too close to a Husk. Their suicide ball is an insta-kill and their mid-range flamethrower in Suicidal+ hurts.
  • DO kill Sirens first. Their screams will screw up your 'nade drops like no tomorrow.
  • DON'T 'nade stack a Scrake. Save those for Fleshpounds/large Siren-less mobs.

Boss Fight

  • DO heal whoever is being grabbed, regardless of class. They'll probably die without you. If you're in Suicidal/HoE, they will die without you.
  •  DON'T magdump on the boss while he's draining someone. He has 85% damage resist and will go back up to full HP once he's done draining. It's a waste of ammo.
  • DO bring a medic pistol or SMG to the boss fight (everyone has enough capacity to carry a medic SMG and an AA-12).
  • DON'T stick too close to the boss once he finishes draining someone. He will drop a grenade stack pretty much at his own feet and insta-kill anyone in the immediately area.

General

  • DON'T beg for cash if no one's ponying up. It won't help your case. Just keep on the lookout for weapon spawns to sell for cash.
  • DON'T walk over ammo crates if you're full on ammo. You'll pick it up whether or not you're full. Other people will probably want that.
  • DO call out weapon spawns if you can't pick it up in higher difficulties. Gifts from the RN gods benefit everyone.
  • DON'T sign up for Suicidal or Hell on Earth if you don't have a high perk level/know what you're doing.
