Another patch is hitting Diablo 4 ahead of the start of Season of the Maligned. This time it’s a client-side patch, and the update includes some gameplay changes along with a slew of bug fixes. Here are the key points from the extensive patch notes.

Diablo 4 1.0.4 Patch Notes

Helltide Chest Changes

The main changes to gameplay come in the form of Helltide Chest changes. Previously Tortured Gifts that drop from Helltide Chests didn’t have the possibility of being Unique. Those highly sought-after items are necessary for a variety of builds, and increasing the probability of getting them was a focus. Thus, Helltide Chests now have a chance to drop Unique items, including the super rare Unique items like Harlequin’s Crest.

1.0.4 Boss Changes

Another change aimed at various campaign bosses went into effect with Patch 1.0.4. Vhenard, Brol, and Cyhrach have had their damage reduced alongside their health pools. Thank goodness for melee players struggling against Vhenard. I died a solid four times against her before figuring out her patterns and found her the most difficult boss of Act 1. Hopefully, these changes will make the bosses feel like they’re impactful without being overpowered for their place in the story.

Material Cap Increase

The last gameplay change may be a minor one, but for those hardcore farmers or hoarders out there, materials are now capped at 9,999 instead of 999. This is perfect if you’re saving for all your endgame Ancestral Unique Item upgrades.

Various Bug Fixes

The bug fixes listed in the patch notes addressed a variety of concerns, including completing certain dungeons when the Butcher spawns there, issues with Elixirs not imbuing the proper bonuses, and cosmetic items now showing on characters or mounts. You can view the full list of bug fixes on the official 1.0.4 patch notes post.

This may be the last set of Diablo 4 patch notes in lieu of emergency fixes until the July 18 patch leading into Season of the Malignant. For more on that, we’ve outlined what Season 1 will look like. If you’re in need of in-game help, like defeating Vhenard, check out our D4 guides hub.
