Ready to reinstall Fallout 4 and experience a whole new quest line with a bunch of new companions? Project Valkyrie re-tools much of the end game and gives you a whole new storyline to work through.

In order to use Project Valkyrie, you need to have the Outcasts & Remnants mod to be installed first. The Fusion City mod is recommended, but not required. Your character also needs to be able to pick master locks or you can't complete the quests.

Because the mod quests intersect heavily with the main vanilla quests, there's possibility for conflicts to arise. If you run into a problem where a quest isn't finishing properly, talk to one of the new companions and pick the option to end or restart the current quest.

Besides the new quests and companions, Project Valkyrie significantly alters how the end games plays out. You no longer have to pick one specific faction to work with, and you aren't railroaded into help that faction annihilate the others.

Starting Project Valkyrie

This mod's primary quest line is tied closely to the vanilla game's Secret Of Cabot House side quest, which has to be started first to gain access to the new Project Valkyrie content.

If you've already completed this quest and can freely enter the Parsons State Insane Asylum, just head straight there to find Valkyrie. Talking to her begins the In A Darkened Room quest.

If you haven't started or completed the Cabot content yet, first travel to Cabot House, which is found north of Goodneighor and west of the Old North Church.

The door is locked and can't be picked, so talk to intercom on the left side. If you have the proper Charisma skills, you can persuade them to let you in.

If you fail the persuasion attempt, instead find the ghoul named Edward first and he'll tell you to meet him at Cabot House. He can spawn randomly at Bunker Hill, the Third Rail bar, or Dugout Inn.

Kick off this weird immortality-themed quest by accepting the job to track down a dead courier and pick up his serum. After the battle with the raiders, bring the serum back to start the Emogene Takes A Lover quest.

When Edward takes you upstairs, hack the computer on the back wall near the second staircase and read the entry labeled Patient Log S18. This entry updates the main Project Valkyrie quest In A Darkened Room.

Before you can actually get into the Asylum to meet Valkyrie, you need to have Jack unlock the doors. Keep completing tasks for Edward until you finally reach the Secret Of Cabot House quest. During that quest, Jack will unlock the Asylum.

Once inside, make sure to help Jack unlock the doors and activate the elevator, or you can get permanently stuck in the basement with no way to leave after finding Valkyrie. The only way to leave the building at that point is to use console commands to warp to a new location.

In A Darkened Room

For this first quest of Project Valkyrie, travel to the Parsons State Insane Asylum at the northeast end of the map.

Valkyrie herself is found in a locked room in the basement (you have to travel through the gap between walls and jump down the giant hole to reach this area).

Access Nurse Deesil's terminal to unlock the door, and then leave the Asylum. Note that have to actually walk by the front door to the Asylum to trigger the end of the quest, so just warping out isn't immediately helpful unless you walk back.

Be sure to talk to Valkyrie to get a dose of super charged Serum (and to give her some clothes and a weapon)!

Malpractice

Talk to Valkyrie again and ask how you can help to kick off the Malpractice quest, which will have you traveling to different medical centers in search of answers.

Travel to the Medford Memorial Center, which is directly next to the Malden Center station and southwest of Greentop Nursery. This area is filled with suicide bombing super mutants, so you'll want to wear your power armor. Pick the master locked door and head up to the top section to access the terminal and find out about Valkyrie's abduction.

Next, travel to Kendall Hospital (north of the Institute and east of Cambridge Police Station). Be ready for raiders and deathclaws! In the basement, look for a terminal behind a giant hole in the wall and read the notes.

Finally, go to Mass Bay Medical (southeast of Vault 114 and Swan's Pond). Head up towards the top of the area and look for a back room with a terminal located above the power armor station. Read through those files to find out how Valkyrie was kidnapped.

Heir To The Throne

Anytime after reading the final terminal in the previous quest, talk to Valkyrie again and ask for another job to start this quest line.

Head to Back Street Apparel and look for the blue door labeled Valkyrie's Apartment (right next to Club Snuggle). Pick the novice lock and head inside to raid the apartment, which has work benches, a power armor station, and can now serve as your home.

Grab the Note From Vanessa on the dresser chest in the bedroom and then talk to Valkyrie again. Travel to the USAF Satellite Station (southeast of Robotics Disposal Ground).

Be on the lookout for laser tripwires in here! Talk to the H.A.L.L.Y robot to get the Liberty Prime overwrite codes and then grab the shipping receipt off the dead body. Talk to Valkyrie again to complete the quest.

From this point onward, Valkyrie will offer repeatable side quests if you initiate dialog.

Wag The Dog

This quest intersects with the Brother Of Steel end game state and sees you taking over control of the faction. Its best to start this quest after completing the vanilla Show No Mercy quest so Liberty Prime is already re-assembled.

With the Liberty Prime override codes in hand, travel to the B.O.G. Bunker south of Oberland Station and chat up Fiona McBride in the lounge area of the sub-level.

Talk to the kid named Owen in the next room and take him to the safe house marked on your map (and for the love of God, don't give that child a mini-gun when he asks for one). Talk to Owen's mom -- who it turns out is none other than Sarah Lyons -- and then fight off the Brotherhood invaders.

Read the info on the terminal and talk to Sarah again, then follow the map markers to kill the Brotherhood members. Read the note labeled Orders From Kells and then show it to Owen's mom.

Deal with the Brotherhood ambush situation, and then press the glowing red button above the toilet to open a secret back room. Read the terminal and then chat with Maxson.

From there, its up to you whether to go the peaceful or violent route with Sarah. Follow her around and talk to Captain Kells and then Proctor Quinlan. Chat with Fiona again to finish the quest.

At this point you can now talk to Fiona to initiate the Peace Through Superior Firepower side quest... which has you recruiting Liberty Prime as a companion.

Yes, the insane Democracy-spreading robot Liberty Prime is now your companion. Have fun annihilating the wasteland! Obviously he can't enter buildings however, so he'll hang around outside when you enter an interior area.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

For the final main quest of Project Valkyrie, talk to Sarah again and then go chat with Carter at Club Snuggle next to Valkyrie's apartment.

This quest has you taking control of the Institute, so its best to start before fully completing the main Institute quest lines of the vanilla game.

Fast travel to Hubris Comics and follow the map markers to get the teleporter gun components, then take them back to Carter Beckett. Walk to the pinup room in the basement of Club Snuggle and talk to Dr. Zimmer, then return to Carter again.

Go inside the Institute and load the holotape into the terminal in  Dr. Ayo's room. With the teleporter gun equipped, initiate conversation with Clayton Holdren and decide whether to kill him or teleport him elsewhere. Repeat this process with Isaac Karlin and Alana Secord, then go back and talk to Carter again.

Now just follow the quest markers to talk to Sawyer, Sarah, Desdemona, and Preston to take control of the Institute (if you really hate Preston Garvey, be sure to teleport him to prison). From here on out you can use the Director's room as your home base.

After completing the main quests, repeatable side quests become available by talking to Sarah, Valkyrie, and Owen, and by opening the terminals in each area of the Institute.

You can also now recruit the following new companions:

  • Synth Nate in the SRB Lounge of the Institute
  • Synth Gloria at the firing range in the Advanced Systems room of the Institute
  • Synth Nora in the steam shower section of the Director's room

What did you think of our list of Fallout major overhaul mods, and are there any we missed that should be added?

\n

Sadly, the options for Fallout 4 these days are still quite lacking. Total conversion mods tend to create much rejoicing and fanfare when they are announced... and then promptly fall off the map. It's not hard to understand why.

\n

These are huge projects, nearly the equivalent of a full game development, and when you aren't getting paid and just have volunteers working in their free time, feature creep and lack of drive kill a ton of total conversion mods.

\n

A few are worth keeping your eye on that may still arrive in the future, like Fallout Cascadia and Fallout: The Frontier. If those ever finally see stable, feature-complete releases, we'll be sure to get them added here.

Fallout: New California

\n
    \n
  • This Fallout: New Vegas mod arrives in October!
  • \n
\n

Now here's an oddity in the world of epic and ambitious total conversion mods: Fallout: New California actually has a confirmed release date for the full version!

\n

After starting life as Project Brazil and going through years of work, New California is set to drop on October 23, 2018. This has easily got to be one of the most anticipated total conversion mods for the franchise, with fully voice-acted characters and an entirely new story in a completely different location than the base game.

\n

With side quests galore and 16,000 lines of dialogue, expect to essentially get a whole extra New Vegas-sized game this fall!

Five Nights at Vault 5

\n\n

Wait, wait, wait -- there's even a Five Nights at Freddy's version of Fallout?!? Yes, there is, because modders are nuts (and awesome).

\n

Weirdly, it's not all that outside the lore of the universe either, since we know many of those vaults were specifically created to perform cruel and unusual experiments on their occupants, rather than just keeping them safe from radiation.

\n

Just like the franchise that was the inspiration for this mod, Five Nights At Vault 5 has you trying to survive from midnight to 6 a.m. while killer robots patrol the halls.

Hell on Earth

\n\n

The various modders out there are consistently able to take the Fallout franchise and give you something radically different within an overall familiar framework. Hell on Earth is one such entry, essentially giving you Silent Hill with the New Vegas style.

\n

This (not lore-friendly, obviously) mod has you traveling to another dimension to try to track down lost mercenaries who went to investigate a nightmare realm. Hell on Earth really plays up the dark and bloody aspects of the franchise and manages to create a survival horror vibe even when you are gunning down monsters with a laser gatling.

Alton, IL

\n\n

A simply massive addition to the Fallout 3 universe, this mod gives you an entirely new location to explore, quests to complete, factions to side with, voice acting, and more.

\n

It's essentially a completely free DLC location in the vein of Point Lookout, and is a killer expansion to vanilla Fallout 3. Off the strength of this creation, the modder actually got a job at Rockstar!

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/f/a/l/falloutzero-a9d54.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/f/a/l/falloutzero-a9d54.jpg","type":"slide","id":"184705","description":"

Fallout Zero

\n\n

Although it's a bit buggy and could use some more work, Fallout Zero offers an entirely new quest line for the Fallout 3 experience that takes place a mere two months after the Great War.

\n

What makes the mod worth installing is the amount of work that went into voicing the lines, all those extra quests, and the dialogue-over-combat focus. The reactive helmet that shows if NPCs will give up and join you when you point your gun at them is also a really nice touch.

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/b/e/y/beyond-e148c.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/b/e/y/beyond-e148c.jpg","type":"slide","id":"184709","description":"

Beyond Boulder Dome

\n\n

If you've already played all the New Vegas DLC and still need to get your Wasteland fix, Beyond Boulder Dome is where you need to go next. New areas, new weapons and armor, new robots, a cast of fully voiced and lip-synced characters -- you get a ton of extra content here.

\n

Weirdly enough, the story from this 2012 mod has a lot of echoes of what would become Fallout 4, with two warring factions stuck in cryogenic sleep and waking up hundreds of years later to a different world.

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/d/u/s/dust-67985.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/d/u/s/dust-67985.jpg","type":"slide","id":"184700","description":"

Fallout: DUST

\n\n

OK, so I fully appreciate that this may be an odd entry to include in a list specifically about not wanting a survival RPG version of the franchise, but it absolutely deserves a place here.

\n

Yes, DUST is, in fact, a survival rendition of Fallout: New Vegas. There are some key differences here, though, from what you can expect to get from Bethesda, and a few reasons why DUST might be more worth your time. First and foremost is the difficulty. DUST is unforgiving in the extreme, to a level we can be nearly certain Fallout 76 won't feature.

\n

DUST also includes something a bit different from the standard survival formula: insanity. Killing people, eating rotting flesh, and taking drugs for an edge in combat all take their toll, making this somewhat of a Darkest Dungeon-like take on the series, with a dash of Don't Starve. If you want to be challenged in a very different way from the base game, DUST is worth at least checking out.

\n

Wondering just what Fallout 76 might look like and want to try out something similar ahead of time? You've got your answer right here, although in what is probably going to be a harder, darker rendition. For another take on this idea, be sure to also check out the Obscurum - Pandemic survival mod.

Fallout 1.5: Resurrection

\n\n

Still got your old Fallout discs or have a digital version from GOG? It's time to reinstall because there's more for the vault dweller to do besides just haul water and find the GECK!

\n

Originally a Czech total conversion, Resurrection recently got an English translation and is well worth playing for fans of the early isometric titles in the franchise.

\n

Set between the events of the first two games, there's nearly 25 hours worth of unique content to play through here. The only downside is that the new characters don't have the "talking head" animations, so it does feel a little more static than vanilla Fallout 2.

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/m/e/d/mediahandler-e65a8.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/m/e/d/mediahandler-e65a8.jpg","type":"slide","id":"184698","description":"

After that divisive Fallout 76 announcement, fans of the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise may be on the hunt for more wasteland wandering beyond what can be found through official channels.

\n

Although it's possible we may be in for a surprise hit, the notion of playing ARK: Fallout Survive isn't exactly pushing the excitement meter into the red for a lot of fans (the only way they could have chased bubble-bursting trends any harder would be if it were a battle royale game).

\n

While several major total conversion mods have been announced in recent months for Fallout 4, they are likely years off, if they ever even see a full, finished release.

\n

There are still plenty of other ways to experience the wasteland without a proper, new single-player Fallout, though, thanks to the hard work and dedication of all the killer modders out there.

\n

Here we're rounding up 8 of the best major overhaul mods available that give you entirely new areas and ways of playing classics like Fallout 2, 3, and New Vegas.

Pre-War Pets

\n

Get It Here

\n

Adding in a way to make your pre-war home a little more inviting, this simple mod allows you to add as many dogs or cats as you want during the early segment of Fallout 4, before the bombs start to drop.

\n

Have fun playing with all the little furry friends before the world goes to hell and Shaun gets kidnapped by a futuristic institute of synthetic beings.

\n

Of course, all those creatures you summon will horribly die about 10 minutes in, but that's par for the course in the Fallout universe.

Wasteland Pets

\n

Get It Here

\n

A great option for when you don't actually want a new companion but just want the aesthetics of being followed around by animals, this nifty little mod gives you a nice list of creatures to hang out with in the Commonwealth.

\n

From those big, dumb brahmin to a floating bloatfly or scurrying molerat, these craftable pets will follow you around (including with fast travel) but won't interfere with combat or screw up your stealth attempts. Essentially, you can turn the Sole Survivor into a Disney Princess (or D&D druid?) always surrounded by helpful critters!

Fog Crawlers Workshop Pets

\n\n

Those weird, giant shrimp beasts from Far Harbor (that seem like they are supposed to be the aquatic version of death claws) can now follow you around after installing this simple, little mod.

\n

You can craft your own Fog Crawler follower at a chem station, then assign it to hang out at a settlement (if you really want that settlement to be a lot creepier). The mod isn't perfect, though, as the Fog Crawler is a modified version of a settlement structure, so they revert into odd shapes when dying.

Having Dogmeat as your faithful companion is the iconic way to play Fallout 4 to match all the original promo imagery, but there are a lot of aspects about giving up your companion slot for a dog that aren't exactly satisfying.

Beast Master Creature Companion Overhaul

\n\n

This fabulous mod works similarly to the previous one, but it's meshed into the existing framework of the game more smoothly and isn't so obviously breaking the core concepts.

\n

Rather than simply summoning a random animal companion, this one instead adds in a brand-new taming element where you have to capture creatures using the Wasteland Workshop mod's cages, then implant a control chip to teach them a language and give them commands.

\n

Frankly, I'm surprised this wasn't included with the WW DLC to begin with, and it's a killer addition to that side of the Fallout 4 experience.

Creature Follower ESP Version

\n

Get It Here

\n

If you aren't sure where to begin with all the Fallout 4 pet mods available and want a nice comprehensive option that offers a huge range of creatures as companions, this is the place to go first.

\n

The Creature Follower mod gives full companion dialog (minus romance of course ... this isn't a freaky animal fetish mod from Skyrim!) and the ability to summon 26 different creature companions, including deathclaws, yao guai, synths, mole rats, radscorpions, super mutant behemoths, and even a cat.

Sadly, that last one isn't useful for combat, but obviously the rest are very viable companion options that will have your back when the raiders attack!

Oh, Fallout 4, why can't we ever seem to quit you? Here we are, closing in on three years since launch -- and more than two since the last official story DLC landed -- but all those fabulous mods keep us returning to the Commonwealth wasteland again and again.

\n

Bethesda knows what's up, as the patches for this aging game keep on coming. Fallout 1.22 (listed as Fallout 1.10 on PS4) offered up a curious entry in the patch notes, indicating that "pet support" is now being implemented.

\n

It isn't entirely clear yet what that means, but it's a good bet that we can expect a bunch of pet options to arrive in the Creation Club soon. If you don't want to wait for those paid entries to show up, the amazing Fallout 4 mod community already has you covered (as usual).

\n

In the slides ahead, we cover all the best Fallout 4 pet mods currently available that expand out your options for Dogmeat, or even let you recruit a wide range of pets, from mirelurks to death claws! Unfortunately, most of these aren't available for console, but where they can be found we've included links for the Xbox One/PS4 versions.

Faction Settlement Mod

\n\n

This is such a simple modification, but it can completely change the feel of the game if you find the Sole Survivor strongly allying with one of the big factions.

\n

The mod gives you a faction flag, which you can plant at any given settlement. Once there, the settlement will begin recruiting members of that faction as new settlers instead of getting random civilians. Now your towns and cities can be filled to the brim with the Brotherhood of Steel or Railroad members!

Children Of Atom Overhaul Mod

\n

Download Here (PC)

\n

These nuclear radiation-worshiping zealots have often felt like they could play a bigger role in the Falloutverse and that the main character should have more opportunity to actually work with them.

\n

This overhaul melds together several mods dealing with the Children Of Atom, adding in new settlements that recruit Children as settlers and including some glowing power armor for a proper radiation feel.

Enclave Resurgent Mod

\n\n

After playing such a big role in the breakout Fallout 3, many players were disappointed in how Bethesda's next main entry seemed to forget about these big baddies.

\n

This mod rectifies that oversight, bringing the Enclave to the Commonwealth as a faction that can be joined, adding in new quests and voice-overs, and injecting a bunch of Enclave fluff like a radio station and Enclave-themed gear.

\n

John Henry Eden may be dead, but the Enclave will live on for America!

Bounties For You Mod

\n\n

Another mod that adds in a distinct new faction, this one is focused entirely on bounty hunting -- but you aren't always the hunter! While you can collect bounties for the faction, a new element is added to the game where bounties will be issued against the Sole Survivor if you break laws.

\n

You might be minding your own business trying to solve problems in Diamond City or break into the Institute when a gang of hostile bounty hunters appears, and they'll be tailored to your character's weaknesses.

\n

After giving you a good thumping, they'll make off with a portion of your caps, so you better stay on the straight and narrow! The mod also comes with some new voice acting and unique faction equipment.

We Are The Minutemen Mod

\n\n

The thinking behind supporting the Minutemen in Fallout 4 is that having more connected settlements will result in a safer, more prosperous Commonwealth. But honestly, all it really does is tick off the player, with Preston Garvey constantly giving you new pointless quests to protect a settlement that can't protect itself.

\n

This mod totally overhauls the Minutemen, adding in more patrols around settlements, changing up how often settlement quests appear, adding Minutemen bandannas to roving dogs, and introducing a host of other tweaks to make the faction a more visible part of the game.

Well howdy, pardner! Saddle on up with this mod and turn the Minutemen into Stetson-wearin', rope-tyin' cow pokes with a whole lot more personality than they had before!

True Overboss Mod (Nuka World Raiders)

\n\n

This one expands the Nuka World raiders in ways it feels like the DLC should have already included, since you are supposed to be the head honcho ordering around all the raider factions.

\n

With the mod installed, you can pull up the Pip-Boy to view information on your gang, summon raiders to fight for you, and give orders like picking up stim packs or going off searching for Nuka Cola recipe books (if you haven't used our guide yet to find them all).

Star Wars Faction Overhaul Mods

\n
Synth Stormtroopers / Imperial Institute
\n\n
Separatist Patrols Of The Commonwealth
\n\n

Rather than giving you whole new factions, these two Star Wars-themed overhauls change existing characters to place the Commonwealth in a galaxy far, far away.

\n

The first one modifies the Institute characters heavily, so synths and Institute scientists wear different varieties of storm trooper armor or various Imperial robes from the movie series. If you go hostile inside the Institute headquarters, get ready for a tense laser blaster battle (and yeah, they have better aim than in the flicks).

\n

The second mod goes back to the much-maligned Phantom Menace to create hordes of Trade Federation droids that patrol around the Commonwealth at random spawns and replace many of the Institute synths as well.

Faction Maintenance Mod

\n\n

A deadly tool in the hands of the uninitiated, this incredibly powerful mod gives you total control over the opinion that just about every single character or entity in the game has towards the Sole Survivor.

\n

Going way beyond just the primary in-game factions, the Faction Maintenance Mod lets you tweak settings on pretty much anyone, from super mutants to a companion you've ticked off. It even includes a bunch of extras from various other faction mods so you can tweak non-canon characters.

\n

Be careful when playing with those settings, though, as it can be easy to accidentally nerf the whole game or shut down entire quest lines when changing states on various characters, and there is a learning curve involved here.

Fallout UIF Mod

\n\n

A truly ambitious mod showcasing the great lengths this amazing community will go to in order to make Fallout an even bigger experience, this mod adds in a full fifth faction called The Union of Independent Federations.

\n

While the voice acting is frequently on the lower end, the fact that hours of new voice acting was added at all is particularly notable, as are the 20 or so hours of extra content added with new storylines, characters, and faction options.

\n

Of particular interest is the focus on being a bad guy and taking the evil route while working with this faction, which the base Fallout 4 typically shied away from much more often than did its superior predecessors.

Even if you didn't jump on the Fallout 4 VR hype train, there's still a lot of life left in this open-world apocalyptic RPG for the average player, and even more so if you dive into the world of modding.

\n

One area where mods still haven't made as big of inroads as they have with many other elements from the game is in the faction system. Although there are a whole lot of minor factions like the Children Of Atom, Fallout 4 essentially featured four main groups that actually had a major impact on quest options and the story ending: the Brotherhood Of Steel, Minutemen, Institute, and Railroad.

\n

Here we're rounding up 10 of the best mods that overhaul existing factions, or in a few cases, even add in entirely new ones!

\n

Due to the restrictions on file sizes and outside assets on the PS4, many of these are only available for PC or Xbox One. When individual faction mods can be found on consoles, we'll include extra links on each slide so you aren't left behind.

Five months of painstaking work went into creating this map, and man does it ever show! Some insane Minecraft fanatic recreated the legendary Silent Hills P.T. playable demo to inject some serious horror into the block building, open world phenomena.

This one deserves major kudos for drastically changing the Crysis base game, shifting it from a sci-fi action shooter to an atmospheric Lovecraftian horror game that's slow moving and all about investigation rather than running and gunning.

Skyrim: Freddy Krueger

\n

Download the Freddy Krueger Mod Here

\n

The illustrious Skyrim modding community has added in characters from so many other franchises that I doubt I could even find them all in a full day of searching -- let alone download and install even a fraction of them.

\n

But that means that horror- and Halloween-themed characters most definitely have not been left out, with the Headless Horseman and many other figures from myth and legend added to this open world fantasy game.

\n

However, one of the most bizarre (and kind of amazing) has got to be Freddy Krueger. I mean, someone clearly put a lot of work into this mod, even if it doesn't fit the game at all. It has nothing to do with Skyrim and is beyond lore breaking, but it's also pretty awesome. Go ahead and kill Freddy, loot his dream chest, and become the clawed nightmare yourself!

Skyrim: Epic Halloween Overhaul

If you only get one Halloween-themed Skyrim mod this year, this is unquestionably the one to get. It's got everything all in one bundle: new quests, new locations, and new skins. To top it all off, there are even pumpkin and Halloween light decorations placed everywhere to complete the vibe.

Fallout 4: Pilgrim -- Dread The Commonwealth

\n

Download This Scary Fallout 4 Mod Here

\n

The only appropriate response to this overhaul mod is a simple Keanu-Reeves-inspired, "Woah." Pilgrim -- Dread the Commonwealth drastically changes Fallout 4's tone by changing up the game's color filters and weather, creating a dreary and gritty atmosphere inspired by horror flick The Witch.

\n

But that's not all. Everything gets a creepy remake here, from the terrain to faithful hound companion Dogmeat (who, for now, is just a bit scarier version of his current self. However, in a future update, he will be replaced entirely with the Satanic goat Black Phillip).

\n

For the best scary Fallout 4 experience, combine Pilgrim with the smallest setting on the Pip Boy Flashlight mod and install the Commonwealth Connifers Redux mod for a more forested feel in line with the movie.

\n

Pilgrim is just one of dozens of Fallout 4 horror recreations! Want even more? Check out our full list of Fallout 4 horror mods here.

The glory of autumn has finally arrived, which for my family means an unrelenting onslaught of 31 solid days of horror! That's right, we only watch scary flicks, read horror novels, and play creepy renditions of video games for all 31 days of October.

\n

Sometimes that's a tall order on the gaming front considering the relative dearth of horror games in the gaming world, but those who are willing to try diving into the mod community will find that nearly any game you can think of will have some kind of Halloween recreation or scary mod attached to it.

\n

From truly scary total overhauls that add in completely new storylines to silly pumpkin skins simply added for aesthetics, there's something for everyone when it comes to Halloween mods.

Over the next 10 slides we'll show you some of the best Halloween and horror themed mods currently available for the likes of Fallout 4, New Vegas, Skyrim, Arma III, Crysis, Garry's Mod, Goat Simulator, and even Minecraft!

It's a top-notch combination of over-the-top action and legitimately fun quest lines that go in directions you might not expect. If you want to try out the various new questlines made by modders but aren't sure where to start, there are far worse places to begin than Fusion City Rising.

Between the base game and the Automatron/Nuka World/Far Harbor expansions, there's already a staggering number of quests to undertake in Fallout 4. But frankly, there's always room for more in the Commonwealth!

As the name implies, this mod adds several new quests, assassination missions, buildings, enemies, items, and more to the Goodneighbor settlement. There's also somewhere in the neighborhood of 500+ lines of dialog added, greatly extending out your Fallout 4 experience.

There's a reason this is one of the most-downloaded Fallout 4 mods of all time -- and you should find out why by downloading it yourself at your earliest convenience!

Any Mod Any Weapon

Weightless Junk

Possibly the single most helpful Fallout 4 mod in all existence, this indispensable little addition to the game makes one small, but powerful change: most of the random junk found in the Commonwealth -- from wrenches to tin cans -- just simply has no weight.

Craft Ammo

While the Contraptions Workshop DLC added an ammunition station that slowly churns out ammo at a fairly high power cost, it isn't really an economical option.

Traits And Perks

Miss the old style of traits and perks from the previous Fallout games? This recreates them in Fallout 4 after a fashion (and adds in new additions).

\n

While they can't be directly brought over to the new perk system with its unlimited level cap and new level S.P.E.C.I.A.L. screen without causing some major problems, this mod brought them back in a roundabout way using the crafting system.

Now you just have to craft a specific type of item that grants you the new traits/perks, and you can easily remove everything to respec your character on the fly from the ground up.

For how often he appeared in the marketing for Fallout 4's pre-release, Dog Meat really didn't offer that much to F4 players when the game finally arrived. Settlement Management Software

Going the opposite direction of the previous mod, this one gives you greater micromanagement powers -- and from a distance as well. Instead of having to manually walk up to any given settler, you can automatically assign them to a settlement object from a terminal.

\n

This simple terminal program also lets you move settlers between towns, assign supply routes, and check a settlement's stats all in one clean interface. This will be a great addition to your Fallout 4 GOTY collection. Because let's face it: quality of life upgrades are always welcome.

Sim Settlements

\n

Download the Sim Settlements Mod Here

\n

One of the elements of Fallout 4 that was most touted prior to release is also the element that is probably the most heavily modded: F4 settlements. Although changes and additions were made with the game's official add-ons, there's still plenty about settlement building and settler duty-assigning that's pretty rough around the edges.

\n

Sim Settlements is much different from the typical settlement mod in that it drastically changes how settlements work, rather than just simply adding new objects.

\n

The goal of the settlements mod is to make it so you are the leader of any given settlement -- and not its micro-manager. The mod brings in "zones" that can be placed (in the manner of Sim City) that prompt your settlers to plant crops, connect water supplies, and construct buildings of a specific type.

\n

Every settlement will end up unique using this overhaul, and a progression system is added in so that building settlements is more satisfying and less of something you have to do every so often.

Full Dialog Interface

Download the Full Dialog Interface Mod Here

\n

OK, so we've patched all the bugs and gotten rid of the Creation Club nonsense, so now it's time to fix Bethesda's other major Fallout 4 stumble -- the condensed dialog wheel.

\n

Half of the time the paraphrased example doesn't even really match the real dialog that's said. And there's no question the full voice acted main character really cut down on the dialog options in comparison to previous games.

\n

While there's not much to be done about the latter, the former is handily dealt with using this mod that changes things back to the classic Fallout dialog tree, showing exactly what will be conveyed with each option. Again, this is another essential mod for the best F4 GOTY experience.

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

\n

Download the Patch Here

\n

If you've got a huge, open world Bethesda game, your very first order of business should be to find and download the unofficial fan patch. Like this one, it's guaranteed to fix hundreds of bugs, both major and minor, from small issues with items and dialog to big problems with quests and markers.

\n

Best of all? The huge number of changes are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, so they don't ever break other mods or become irrelevant with new patches. This is essential download material for Fallout 4 Game of the Year edition.

For all those who avoided the full sticker price of a brand new AAA game plus the pricey season pass, your patience has paid off now that Fallout 4 GOTY is here, which bundles all the F4 expansions and the high-resolution texture pack in one place. (If you wait until Black Friday, I have a sneaking suspicion you might get an even bigger discount...)

\n

But if you waited until the Game of the Year edition arrived to jump on Bethesda's Commonwealth entry in the Fallout universe, that means you've got a full two years worth of mods to catch up on! Graphics mods, skill mods, UI mods, new quest mods, and (of course) nude mods -- there are tens of thousands available, and far more than any one person could ever even play in a single lifetime.

\n

So to get you started off right, we're rounding up a lineup of tried and true mod stalwarts that have always been Fallout 4 staples, as well as some newer offerings that will mesh well with F4's Game Of The Year edition.

\n

Note that these are all free mods, and unlike Bethesda we're going to actually call them mods. As such, we won't be listing any of the paid "not-mod" nonsense from the Creation Club (which is just paid mods by another name). Now that we've got that little tidbit out of the way, lets get onto the must-have Fallout 4 GOTY mods!

There's a lot you can get away with in reducing the coverage of underwear before actually being nude, and mods like this push that envelope about as far as they can go. Adding a few more inches of skin, these mods take out the straps from bras and undies, and also lower them to the nipple level.

The Real Deal: Nude Xbox One Fallout 4 Mods

\n

Yep, they exist, and yep, you can download them. Here's the thing: you can't search for these ones through the mod list directly.

\n

Posting up something obviously called a "nude mod" in the Clothing or Texture category is a surefire way to get it taken down immediately... but if you know where to look, they absolutely do exist -- and are even found directly on Bethesda's website.

\n

Head to the Work In Progress folder here at Bethesda's Fallout 4 mods page and search through them manually for anything with no photo gallery and no description. If you see something with an odd name like Cool3!~ you can bet you're on the right track.

\n

You'd best download those you find now, because its a good bet even these stealthy ones will get swatted down eventually. Here's the thing though... at this point it appears that even if Bethesda yanks a mod from the site, the files themselves remain on your console unless you choose to delete them -- so you can keep deleted mods forever.

"},{"image":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_360,w_640/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/n/u/d/nude-276b5.jpg","thumb":"https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,h_85,w_97/e_sharpen:100/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/gameskinnyc/n/u/d/nude-276b5.jpg","type":"slide","id":"167325","description":"

Everyone knows that Bethesda's games have a gazillion or so nude mods on the PC, from bizarro festish mods to full on hardcore sex scenes crafted through the Lovers Lab.

\n

When mods finally came to console owners, the big question was... how do Xbox One and PS4 players get in on the nude wasteland action? Obviously Bethesda, Sony, and Microsoft aren't super keen on that being the focus of console mods, so they aren't officially supported.

\n

Most of the NSFW Xbox One Fallout 4 mods are very much in the PG-13 to soft R area, mostly just upping the scantily clad or sexy quotients. In the slides ahead we do list quite a few of those that just offer some eye-popping cleavage or a few extra inches of skin, as those slide just under the rules and are readily available to download.

\n

That's not all that's available though. Yes, there are real, legitimate, actual fully nude Fallout 4 mods on the Xbox One, and and in the very next slide we show you how to find them!

Choose Your Own Perks

Get It Here!

\n

With the leveling system overhaul and removal of the level cap entirely in Fallout 4, the perk system can get pretty unwieldy. By installing this mod, you remove all restrictions and make it possible to get any perk you want.

\n

There is a caveat here, however. The lack of external assets and restrictions on how mods work on the PS4 means this choose-your-own-perk system requires reading a specific book for each perk. That can be time-consuming if you're going for a ton of new perks (although obviously less time-consuming than leveling 100s of times to get all the perks normally).

Faster Positive Affinity For Companions

Tired of how long it takes to reach max affinity with new companions in Fallout 4? With this mod, the positive affinity accrual rate is increased five times -- and there's no longer a cooldown period between when you can improve your relationship with a companion.

While you won't instantly get to the max affinity, it won't take nearly as long. It's a simple change that can make the game much more enjoyable, especially if this is your third or fourth playthrough and you'd like to get to the good stuff already with a different companion.

Unlimited Carry Weight

Another cheat that changes just one element of the game, this mod lets you pick up a ring that changes your carry weight limit to an unlimited amount.

That is pretty unbalancing, since weight and inventory management is a big aspect of the Fallout series. But if you get tired of having to decide what junk and weapons to carry, this is a great mod to try out.

Higher Starting SPECIAL

With a single keystroke, PC players have always been able to pull up the console command input and make any changes they wanted to Fallout 4's rendition of the Boston Commonwealth.

\n

Tired of getting blown up in one shot by super mutants with grenades and can't stand how scarce fusion cores are for your power armor? No problem -- just give yourself 10,000 of them.

\n

Console players, on the other hand, have been stuck with vanilla Fallout 4 for far too long -- and while I've sunk a good 50+ hours into the vanilla version, I still think its easily the least satisfying of all the Fallout experiences so far. That's where mods (finally) come in, providing sorely needed changes that Bethesda hasn't gotten around to making and vastly increasing your in-game options.

\n

Unfortunately, there are fewer overall mods for the PS4 due to Sony's restrictions on external assets. But if you want to cheat your way through some of the game's more difficult battles, there's plenty of mods ready and waiting to ease the Sole Survivor's pain (and increase his ammo count).

There are several different cheating mods floating around out there that let you gain access to every item in the game. Placeable NPCs

\n

Get this Fallout 4 mod here!

If you really want to take full control of building settlements, this mod is a must: download it straight away. This mod gives you the ability to spawn and place 450 different NPCs from across the entire game -- and set them as friendly.

\n

In other words, you can have Deathclaws patrolling your settlement, or if you want a specific item but can't find the vendor or merchant, you can just spawn the correct one right there in the middle of your settlement.

\n

You can also create themed settlements incredibly easy this way. Want a robotic town filled with Codsworths? Have at it! How about a metropolis filled to the brim with Diamond City security guards who defected to your side? No problem, just place the right NPCs!

Unlocked Settlement Objects

\n

Get this Fallout 4 mod here!

\n

Despite being a major selling point of the game and a core mechanic meant to set it apart from previous series entries, the settlement building in Fallout 4 is actually pretty limited.

\n

Modders have handily resolved that issue, however, and on the PS4, this is one of three major mods you want installed for maximum settlement control -- along with Scrap That Settlement and Placeable NPCs.

\n

This mod makes nearly every object in the game available for placement in a settlement, whether it was originally intended to be used or not. Basically, if there's an art asset in the game, it can now be used in your settlement -- including full, already-complete buildings.

Eli's Tweaks And Fixes

\n

Get this Fallout 4 mod here!

\n

Unlike most other mods, this mod doesn't make huge changes to settlements or enemies or give you overpowered weapons. Instead, it modifies a whole bunch of little issues to make Fallout 4 an all-around better experience.

\n

For instance, Bobbleheads are renamed so they all show up in order next to each other in your Pip-Boy, rather than being scattered around based on what attribute they modify.

\n

The weight of certain items has been balanced out better, too, and it also makes some tweaks to ease up a few of the more frustrating elements of settlement building, like lack of water and power.

\n

Oh, my god yes: if you only install one PS4 Fallout 4 mod, this is the one to get. The Sole Survivor's constant chattering during any given conversation or while exploring the Commonwealth is enough to drive any vault dweller mad!

\n

I lost track of the number of times I had to hear "blah, blah, blah" when skipping a line of dialog. And with this mod, I will never, ever again have to listen to that nonsense.

\n

Many players also felt the fully voiced dialog for the main character was one of the biggest downsides of this entry in the Fallout series. And while it doesn't fix the annoyingly limited dialog choices, it does cull the vapid voiced protagonist issue.

Portable Nuka Cola Jet Pack

\n

Get this Fallout 4 mod here!

While some suits of power armor can be modified at a workbench to add a power core hungry jet pack ability, it isn't really a reliable way to fly around the Commonwealth.

This mod takes care of that problem by adding a portable jetpack that doesn't take up nearly as much weight -- or require that you be in a suit of power armor.

\n

This is one of those instances where Sony's restrictions on outside assets causes some issues, as the modder had to use an existing outfit, and the flame effect comes out of a weird location. But that's more than forgiven now that we have the ability to freely fly across the whole Fallout 4 game world.

There's no two ways to put this: the PS4 is the the red-headed step child of the modding community.

\n

Sony simply doesn't want to open its console up to potential exploits by letting modders add in their own assets to games like Fallout 4 or Skyrim, meaning the mod possibilities are significantly reduced from PC or Xbox One.

\n

Now that there's been enough time for a decent library of mods to build up, however, gamers have dreamed up some very clever ways to overcome those restrictions and still let you have a fun time tromping across the Commonwealth -- more so than with vanilla Fallout 4.

\n

With nearly 2,000 distinct mods now available on PS4, it seems beyond time for a new look at the best of the best currently up for grabs!

Wasteland Creatures Redone

\n

Get It Here!

\n

After you've seen the same ghouls and deathclaws a couple of hundred times, the creature designs in Fallout 4 can get monotonous.

\n

There's a cure for that though, with this mod that completely overhauls the textures from the ground up. From bloatflies to yao guai, most of the enemies you come across will look significantly better after installing this retexture compilation.

Power Armor HUD Update

\n

Get It Here!

\n

This is a little thing that makes a big difference. Just by taking the power armor HUD from its transparent style to a more substantial version of bolted steel, the entire feel of the game is radically changed.

Hopping into your power armor feels more like riding around in a mech than stomping across the Commonwealth in a suit of metal armor.

There's no question Fallout 4 was a step up in the graphics department from the previous gen entries in the series, but when dealing with such large open world areas and being constrained by console ports, there's always room for improvement on the visual side.

\n

Bethesda recently addressed this very issue with high resolution texture pack free DLC -- and while it did make some textures look a bit better, the package as a whole wasn't exactly awe-inspiring.

\n

If you're seeking the best possible Commonwealth visual experience, we've rounded up 13 different Fallout 4 graphics overhaul mods you'll want to install ASAP. And unlike the official texture pack, none of these mods will take up an extra 58 gigs of hard drive space!

For anyone who has never played a Bethesda game on PC, I am sorry. Let's have a moment of silence for those poor lost souls...

\n

While it's true that Xbox One and PS4 do have mods for Fallout 4 now, you can only have so many active at a time, and there are far fewer to choose from compared to the PC version. And trust me, there a lot to choose between. Nexus Mods, my personal go-to place for mods, currently has 18,418 mods available.

\n

So to help you choose some of the weirdest mods out there, this list will be short on typical re-skins. Yes, the Buzz Lightyear skin above is funny. So are the Batman, Deadpool, Darth Vader and hundreds of other skins available. But for the sake of diversity, we'll have only two in that crowded genre listed. Read on for the rest!

Plenty 'O Exploration

\n

Get It Here!

\n

This is an overhaul mod that fans have to put together every time a new Bethesda entry arrives, especially in the Fallout universe. You'd think eventually the developer would get on this without the players having to do it...

\n

The game maps are always huge, with tons of areas to explore, but then you arrive at a specific location and most of the buildings and hallways can't be accessed and are just cosmetic. Whether doors that can't be opened or piles of rubble blocking your way, there's a distinct lack of indoor exploration.

\n

Fallout 4's rendition of this perennially needed fix, Plenty 'O Exploration, is currently in beta for PS4, but still provides a drastically needed service by adding in many new interior segments for a huge increase in the amount of area actually available to explore.

Zombie Walkers

\n

Get It Here!

\n

The feral ghouls in the Fallout universe have always flirted with being zombies, but they never quite go the whole way there. Putting you in an episode of The Walking Dead (or any given classic zombie flick), this overhaul mod takes ghouls and makes them into a shambling horde of the living dead.

\n

Unfortunately, this PS4 version is a bit stripped down from the PC mod of the same name, but it still gets the job done for console players. Feral ghouls are renamed to zombies, sprinting is disabled, and health is modified so that head shots appropriately take them out. A few animations are also tweaked as well for more of a horror feel.

\n

These modified ghoul zombies also come in big herds that you don't want to get caught in! Needless to say, this pretty drastically changes the feel and tone of a Fallout 4 playthrough. Hiding under a dumpster won't keep you safe here.

Wacky Weapons Workshop

\n

Get It Here!

\n

The lack of external assets really hampers weapon mods on the PS4, but one forward-thinking player put together something really interesting just by changing how weapons can be crafted.

\n

Now you can put together just about any combination imaginable - including some that really shouldn't exist, like adding a fatman launcher to a revolver. Who doesn't want to launch nukes from their handgun?

Remember seeing some of the more bizarre robotic companions when Automatron first came out and laughing at how ridiculous some combos could become? Get ready for that, in weapon form.

Simple Seasons - White, Red, Green, and Yellow

\n

Get It Here!

\n

A clever way of getting around some of the restrictions on adding new external assets in PS4 modding, this series of mods tweaks the colors of grass, trees, objects, and vegetation to let you change the Commonwealth to whatever season you desire.

\n

While it may not radically change the game in terms of content or weaponry, it does completely alter the feel of the story with a different season overtaking areas rather than just having everything be that washed out brown/gray color.

\n

Shown above is an example of Simple White, which takes us from eternal nuclear winter to actual, regular old winter. Even more striking is Simple Red, which sets the trees afire with fall leaf colors for a much less monochromatic playthrough.

Overgrowth Forest Overhaul

\n

Get It Here!

\n

Like a much more invasive and complete version of the Simple Green mod (see the next slide), this Overgrowth offering turns most areas of the Commonwealth into a much more verdant forest.

\n

It makes the entire Fallout 4 experience less dreary and empty-seeming, with vegetation overtaking the Boston area long after the radiation has subsided 200+ years after the bombs first dropped. The color scheme is probably the most frequently sited visual problem with the modern Fallout games, and mods like this handily take care of that concern.

Unified Clothing Overhaul

\n

Get It Here!

\n

For a change in the game's aesthetics and how you can make your character look while stomping across the Commonwealth, this is the mod that should unquestionably be downloaded straight away.

\n

The UCO mod completely opens up the clothing opportunities, allowing you to craft essentially any outfit you can imagine while still have the benefits of armor. If it's something that appears in the game anywhere on any NPC, you can now equip it as your outfit.

\n

Don't like how your current armor looks but prefer its stats? No problem, with UCO you can make exterior clothing invisible, so the defensive qualities remain while the cosmetics are shifted to whatever style you prefer underneath.

It was a long, long wait for Playstation 4 owners to finally get in on the wasteland modding action, and when it arrived, Fallout 4 fans weren't exactly pleased by the extra limitations above and beyond what's found on the Xbox One edition.

\n

Even now, months after mods have been available, the number of PS4 entries continues to lag far behind what's on tap over on the other side of the console fence. Sadly, due to the restrictive nature of what's allowed on console mods, it's unlikely we're going to get an epic total conversion like you'd see on the PC.

\n

The lack of space and inability to add in huge new assets just won't allow for such major changes to the base game. Don't let that kill your enthusiasm for PS4 modding entirely though, as there's still several overhaul mods that significantly change up the Fallout 4 experience on the Playstation platform.

\n

Over the next several slides we cover some of the best of the best in PS4 overhaul mods that you should be trying out immediately.

Worthless Mod by Paddygarcia
\n

Ever notice how even the most useless scraps of stuff in Fallout 4 had some sort of use? This mod adds in junk that is truly junk -- it is actually worthless in every sense of the word.

\n

Isn't it weird that, after all these years following the great fallout, there's all this stuff and none of it is totally busted? You mean to tell me that this toaster, that has sat here for over 200 years, is still functional? Well, this mod fixes that.

\n

A small immersion builder, Worthless Mod makes me enjoy the game that much more by realistically making things worthless.

Lone Wanderer Fast Travel by LoneRaptor
\n

A more recent addition to the game, this fast travel mod adds in a repairable motorcycle that you can use primarily for fast travel. It also has some storage ability and houses some camping gear, which is greatly useful with survival mode's save system.

\n

It makes sense that there would be some of these smaller vehicles that could be repaired or at least made somewhat functional for quicker travel. The added benefits help out in survival mode, where you have more needs and your carrying capacity is limited.

Automatically Lower Weapons by Pauderek
\n

This is a different version than the first Lower Weapon mod that came out shortly following the release of Fallout 4. This mod adds increased time delay and checks for certain actions before raising/lowering your weapon.

\n

If you're someone who has never held a weapon for a long time, you might not know that you're only ever pointing your weapon forward (or at your target for generally as long as you're firing in that direction). Guns are heavy blokes and your arms wouldn't be able to maintain a "fire-ready" position for long. So this makes things a lot more realistic.

Long Range Bullet Holes by SLXJ
\n

A companion mod of sorts to SLXJ's Rain of Brass mod, the Long Range Bullet Holes mod is another nice (albeit small) touch mod that does exactly what the name implies. In addition, it also makes it take longer for bullet holes to "heal" and disappear.

\n

These two mods together just make battles look glorious -- and like an actual fight went down. It's the little details that matter.

Rain of Brass by XLSJ
\n

This is a really simple mod that extends the life of spent bullet casings and increases the area in which you can see them. Now, that might not seem like much of a mod, but don't knock it until you try it.

\n

It makes the aftermath of a shootout look glorious. Spent casings litter the ground -- some still rolling down uneven terrain. It shows you just how awesome the battles are by being able to see all of the spent casings surrounding all the bodies you just stacked like a boss. Now, if only there was a mod so that you could smell that sweet gunpowder odor after going cyclic with the minigun...

Eliminate Stupid Lines by Anbeegod
\n

This is a gem of a mod that helps reduce the number of annoying generic dialog lines from generic NPCs. It's really immersion breaking, and kinda' stupid, to walk into a settlement that you own and have a random farmer say something like, "Oh, you have a dangerous look about you. Hope you're not here for me.."

\n

No, I'm not here for you -- I own this place. I'm the general of the Minutemen -- a defender of the common man of the wastes -- not some scummy raider. This mod helps to regulate some of those annoying lines based on your game progression choices and standings with various factions.

Immersive Vendors by Xgrufijury
\n

Ever thought that the vanilla vendor stalls just felt empty or lacking? I mean, aside from slight visual differences, they all felt samey. Immersive vendors fixes that by adding variety to the vendor stalls you can build at your settlements. It also populates the higher-end stalls with higher quality items to reflect its store level.

\n

It's a minor mod but to me, it's all about those little details, especially since I really enjoy the settlement building aspect of Fallout 4. I also tend to spend a lot of time with setting up my settlements to look busier and more populated, so this mod is a big plus for me.

With more than 600 hours invested into Fallout 4, I've found more than one way to spice up playing -- be it some truly in-depth character roleplaying or mods set to crank up the difficulty. When it boils down to it, I'm an immersion kind of guy. I really enjoy getting into character and thinking about things from a different perspective.

\n

So with that in mind, let's take a look at some of the mods I feel boost immersion the most in Fallout 4 -- and are close to always in my load order.

An Adventure in Modding Fallout 4 https://www.gameskinny.com/8yv6j/an-adventure-in-modding-fallout-4 https://www.gameskinny.com/8yv6j/an-adventure-in-modding-fallout-4 Thu, 12 Jan 2017 07:00:02 -0500 Sean_Labbe

There I was: 80+ mods installed and my personal version of Fallout 4 had finally been transformed into the ideal post-apocalyptic adventure I had always imagined. Visual upgrades, sound upgrades, gameplay upgrades and more had been included; with 30 hours spent tinkering and improving and testing, I was ready for my main playthrough. I created my perfect heroine: Isabella the intelligent, spunky, resourceful former lawyer thrust into a world she had no right or desire to be in. I survived my initial encounter with raiders and befriended the minutemen. Bella would need allies if she were to find her son and take revenge on those who killed her husband.

Initially I found a functional refuge in rebuilding Sanctuary, the game's first settlement. Isabella, through the help of my previous experience with the game and dozens of hours spent modding it, had developed from a spectator to a major player in the conflicts to come. It was at this point, however, that I heard one notorious line of dialogue. An unfortunate remnant of the vanilla game's many flaws, Preston Garvey had opened his mouth to force a quest down my throat once more. In all my time spent fixing every aspect of the game I had deemed broken or in need of improvement, I had found yet another complaint that needed addressing in Preston Garvey's auto-accept radiant quests.

Pure evil

Those experienced in Fallout 4's modding scene know that there have been successful attempts made at fixing this bothersome feature. In fact, for those willing to look, many of the flaws found in Bethesda games are fixable with the right combination of mods installed. This process was nothing new to me. I had spent time browsing the variety of free improvements available to PC players, and most recently console players, for years. Since I had my hands on my very first gaming computer, I had applied this process to titles such as Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim. This journey often began, ended and promptly restarted whenever I would find a way to break absolutely everything.

Or when this absolute **** broke everything.

But this was part of the fun for me, the work involved brought about a reward in the improvements made. This process was rarely a chore, as it would be to those who prefer the pick-up-and-play method of things. A game that could be enjoyed well enough at its base suddenly became a castle made of sand, moldable to my every desire. All I required was the idea and the will to search for it. This often began with fundamental improvements: Unofficial patches, basic gameplay improvements, and user interface changes to change how the game feels at its core. Then I moved onto simple changes, adding weapons and armour to fulfill mine and my character's materialistic desires.

From there it was any array of mods I felt would improve the experience until the game was made up of features, items and improvements that were a far cry from its original state. I became lost in the work I had undertaken, so much so that it was only recently when I upgraded my graphics card and set out to begin a main playthrough on my new rig that I realized how much time I had spent tinkering. 30 hours, much longer than I spend on average in most games, had been spent working to make the game I had before me as ideal as I could fathom it becoming for the time being. Yet after all this effort, I was still finding flaws to fix and setbacks to solve.

Now, some may find that frustrating to read, it would be a frustrating situation to some. To me, however, this was an opportunity to experience the process over and over again as I jumped between gameplay and modding. This was an opportunity to make a game into an ongoing project I worked consistently to improve. This was a chance to create something I could be proud of, through content provided by talented authors. That, in and of itself, is the adventure of modding.

Immersive Gameplay

\n

Get It Here!

\n

An even bigger immersion-focused mod than the last one, this changes nearly every aspect of the game for a totally different experience than vanilla Fallout 4.

\n

Leveling is slower, health gain is reduced, ammo and damage have been tweaked to be in more in-line with real life, explosions are much more deadly and there are massive AI changes to enemies.

\n

Good luck surviving in this faster, more deadly version of the Commonwealth!

Tony's Immersive Fallout

\n

Get It Here!

\n

Creating major changes across the board, Tony's Immersive Fallout radically alters health, damage and armor for both the Sole Survivor and all the enemies/NPCs you will come across.

\n

There are no more enemies with huge amounts of health (Legendary enemies in particular have been culled entirely), and there's no more gaining extra health as you level -- what you get at the start is what you get.

\n

Consequently, armor is now more important and scales with the damage of weapons. Most enemies will have about the same health as you, too, creating a more even -- but deadly -- playing field.

"},{"image":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,e_sharpen:150,f_auto,fl_lossy,h_360,q_80,w_640/v1/gameskinnyc/s/e/t/settle-6635d.png","thumb":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,e_sharpen:150,f_auto,fl_lossy,h_85,q_80,w_97/v1/gameskinnyc/s/e/t/settle-6635d.png","type":"slide","id":"143375","description":"

Settlement Supplies Expanded

\n

Get It Here!

\n

Exactly what it sounds like, Settlement Supplies Expanded greatly increases the number of objects you can use, like furniture, fences, decorative objects and more. For a more well-rounded experience when building your perfect settlement, this is the mod you want.

Simple Survival

\n

Get It Here!

\n

An alternative to the game's main survival mode, this one adds in immersion and realism elements that give a purpose to all the food objects found throughout the game.

\n

With the mod installed, your stats will go down when you are hungry, thirsty or haven't slept. Raw or irradiated food will cause you problems, and limb damage isn't healed as easily with food, either.

\n

Your experience will get harder, but accomplishing anything in this unforgiving survival mode will be well worth the effort.

Realistic Bullet Velocity And Gravity

\n

Get It Here!

\n

The Fallout games aren't exactly known for their realistic physics. In fact, every time a new one comes out, there's bound to be a gag reel of bugged objects smashing into each other in bizarre ways.

\n

Changing things up a bit, this mod alters how combat works so that bullets/lasers/etc. no longer instantaneously hit a target after you pull the trigger. Objects now take time to move through the air, and they can lose precision the farther they have to travel.

\n

It makes for a more challenging and realistic experience while battling raiders and deathclaws in the irradiated wasteland.

Simple Green

\n

Get It Here!

\n

Want a greener, less dreary world? While this sort of mod thrives in the PC setting, it's more difficult with the restrictions placed on console mods, which led to the creation of Simple Green.

The mod gives Fallout 4 more grass and trees across a variety of areas, and it also allows you to plant new trees in your settlements. For those wondering why nothing grew back after the war, give this one a shot.

Water Redux

\n

Get It Here!

\n

A graphical overhaul to draw you into the game world, Water Redux does exactly what it sounds like; It changes water based on its location on the map. Some water is more clear and pure as it moves, while other pools are stagnant and can't be seen through. If you don't care for how the water effects look in Fallout 4, be sure to download this one ASAP.

Insignificant Object Remover

\n

Get It Here!

\n

Nothing breaks immersion like a stuttering frame rate. While that's typically more of an issue on PC when the graphics are turned all the way up, it's been known to happen on consoles as well.

\n

This mod not only makes the game look a bit cleaner, but it also removes hordes of tiny, insignificant objects that are generated on the fly, which can cause frame rates to slow down in cluttered areas.

\n

The end result? An all-around better time exploring the Commonwealth and getting lost in the story.

Better late than never?

Mods are finally available for all you patient PS4 players, which means Sony enthusiasts are busy playing catch up with the tens of thousands of PC mods and 4,500+ Xbox One mods already available (and counting). The pickings at the moment are slim, but the number is growing as dedicated modders get to work.

\n

If you want a more realistic game that draws you in and makes you forget Fallout 4 is a digital landscape, then immersion mods are what you should start installing first.

\n

Unfortunately, many of the PC immersion staples haven't been ported over to the PS4 yet, so here we're going to cover what's available so far and what PS4 users should be downloading immediately for a better Commonwealth wasteland experience.

If there's one thing we can be sure of, its that the incredibly clever modding community will figure out a workaround to get nude or mostly nude characters in Fallout 4 for console players.

No Essential NPCs

\n

Get It Here

\n

A must-have for any Bethesda game experience, this mod now available for the PS4 prevents any character from being invincible, so that everyone can be killed.

\n

You can gripe about bugs with non-killable NPCs breaking quests all you want, but we all know what you really use this one for...

Birthday Suit

\n

Get It Here

\n

At the moment with the sad state of the selection currently available, this is the closest thing we're going to get to a PS4 Fallout 4 nude mod... for now anyway.

\n

The Birthday Suit mod allows you to remove both follower and NPC clothing, having them prance around in just underwear, and ensures they don't put back on different outfits over time. They also get a slight boost to Agility, probably due to dropping all that bulky armor.

Like most Bethesda games, Fallout 4 is practically made for modding and has a relentlessly active community tinkering with every aspect of the game. It's not unreasonable to say people have spent far more hours playing with modded content than with the base storyline, as there's everything from mods that turn Fallout 4 into a horror game to of course an absurd number of NSFW nude mods.

\n

After some serious hiccups, Fallout 4 mods have finally made the leap to console, and while it seemed like Sony fans were going to be left in the lurch, Bethesda has made good on its promise, as the PS4 now gets in on the modding extravaganza!

\n

There are more than 600 mods currently available for PS4 users, and that number will only continue jumping skyward. PC gamers looking at what's available may have noticed a curious lack of a certain kind of mod, however...

\n

While games like Watch Dogs 2 come straight out of the box with full frontal nudity of both the male and female variety, for some reason Bethesda remains opposed to nude mods for Fallout and Elder Scrolls games on consoles.

\n

Sadly, that means staples like Caliente's Beautiful Body Enhancer won't be available (at least not yet) -- but if you look hard enough, there are still some solid NSFW mods that get us at least towards nude-ish.

The Best Fallout 4 PS4 Mods Available Right Now https://www.gameskinny.com/m3m6m/the-best-fallout-4-ps4-mods-available-right-now https://www.gameskinny.com/m3m6m/the-best-fallout-4-ps4-mods-available-right-now Mon, 21 Nov 2016 12:17:23 -0500 Ashley Erickson

Games are often delivered with varied amounts of content, intriguing NPCs, quests, etc. Sometimes, however, developers don't or can't include what the players want. That's where mods come in -- and Fallout 4 is no exception.

With mods being made available on the PlayStation 4, players can finally start tweaking the game to match their expectations and make the game even crazier than it already is. Here of some of the best mods for Fallout 4 on PS4 so far, and where you can download them.

Nuka World Glory

Creator SlacksNawfsides wanted to return Nuka World to its former pre-war glory as a functional theme park. The mod removes the raider content and is still a work in progress, but the revitalized Nuka World is just so beautiful.

The Beantown Interiors Project

While wandering the wasteland that is the Commonwealth, you may have noticed there are quite a few boarded up buildings. This mod, created by Chucksteel, aims to unlock those buildings, allowing players to explore and loot them to their hearts content.

Unlockable Settlement Objects

Settlements and being able to build them piqued many gamers' interests when Bethesda announced their inclusion in Fallout 4. Unfortunately, settlement building proved to be less than fulfilling for a large amount of players. Enter in AndrewCX's Unlockable Settlement Objects mod, which allows players to build items such as cars, hospital beds, custom floors and more.

Cheat Container

This mod by Vicyorus works amazingly well in conjunction with the Unlockable Settlement Objects mod above. Even on its own, the cheat container is invaluable. Holding 60,000 units of building resources, your settlements will be constructed in no time.

Scrap Skeletons, Ghouls, Plants & More

Arguably one of the most annoying things about Fallout 4 is the amount of skeletons you find all over the place. Even in homes that have been reclaimed and are now lived in, dead bodies litter the ground. Wouldn't the people have gotten rid of them? Now you can! This mod by 3lric is the answer to my -- and many other players' -- prayers.

Cleaning Station for Clutter

This delightful mod by DayCraftMC crafts a cleaning station that you can use. What does it do? Well...it takes your junk, purified water, and abraxo and "cleans" the items, giving you shining toasters, brand spanking new pool balls, etc. This is great for decorating settlements, especially vaults where you want to include new items but only have ones dirtied by the wasteland.

What mods would you include in the list? Looking for other mods available for the PS4? Check out Bethesda's site or nexusmods for the full selection.

Minecraft Pokemon Go

\n

To be honest, if there wasn't a Pokemon Go mod for Minecraft, we'd be a little disappointed, especially seeing as Minecraft is one of the most mod friendly games out there. Luckily, we have the pleasure to say there is one.

\n

This is a great mod for players that really want the Pokemon Go experience in Minecraft, as nearly 300 types of Pokemon are at your fingertips to capture. If that isn't enough, this mod makes no changes to existing Minecraft base files, which means that this mod works perfectly with almost all other Minecraft add-ons.

\n

Not only that, this mod is a real mod and not just a texture pack. You can actually battle other Pokemon and have access to an attack system that's equipped with 500 individual attacks, giving you not only the Pokemon Go experience, but also the classic handheld experience as well.

This mod supports versions: 1.7.10, 1.8.9 and 1.10.2

Fallout 4: Pokemon Go

\n

If you're looking for the basic Pokemon Go playthrough in the world of Fallout 4, this mod isn't the place to get it. While the mod is a Pokemon Go one, it takes liberties to keep the game from straying too much and we don't exactly mind.

Instead of your usual hunt, this mod allows you to summon NPC's to help you fight via Pokeballs.

There's over 25 different NPC's that you can summon once you create a Pokeball at the chemistry workstation. Some NPC's include Mutant Hound, Mr. Gutsy, Feral Ghoul, Raider, Synth, Triggerman, Brotherhood Soldier and more.

Modder LudicrousBeach has created a Pokemon Go inspired mod that turns the GTA V city into the world of Pokemon, allowing players to avoid the stress of getting off the couch and actually going outside to hunt down Pokemon.

\n

Isn't that so nice of him?

\n

Anyway, the mod allows for several in-depth interactions, much like the actual app. You can actually level up your XP, go to Pokestops, throw Pokeballs, open inventory to view your captured Pokemon and travel with them at your side.

\n

Of course, the game wouldn't really be GTA without the usual violence, so no worries about it completely turning the game away from its usual Mature rating.

Pokemon has been a popular thing since the '90s, and it doesn't look like it is going away anytime soon.

\n

Pokemon isn't a fad. And of course, it's kind of hard for it to be when there are thousands upon thousands of pokemon that need to be captured, and thousands upon thousands of people trying to capture them.

\n

That's where the latest Pokemon-themed creation comes in; Pokemon Go. In case you have been living under a rock, Pokemon Go is a mobile game that allows players to capture these fictional creatures in the real world and unsurprisingly, the game -- and many of its concepts -- is quickly infiltrating gaming's robust mod community.

\n

From GTA to Fallout, everyone wants to be a PokeMaster and these mods are making it possible.
