The “Mercy Among Thieves” quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the simpler quests in the game, but it does have some of this title’s trademark moral gray area. You’ll be fighting a lot of humanoid enemies, and while there is a good and bad guy at play, your decisions ultimately decide the fate of the important characters.

Mercy Among Thieves Step 1: Speak to the Merchant

You officially start “Mercy Among Thieves” by speaking to a merchant just south of the checkpoint connecting Vermund to Battahl. Bear in mind that you either need a pass to get through the checkpoint in Checkpoint Gate Town or need to find another way into Battahl, then make your way back to the checkpoint to speak to said merchant.

Mercy Among Thieves Step 2: Head to the Attack Site

The second step in “Mercy Among Thieves” takes you to a crossroads near a campsite northwest of Bakbattahl. There, you need to fend off a few Coral Snakes before watching a young man and some children leave the scene. Take out the hostiles and proceed to the next step.

Mercy Among Thieves Step 3: Locate the Coral Snake Stronghold

Once the thieves make their escape, head into the cave system west of the attack site. In the caves, continue through, taking the first and second left, then a right. You’ll be confronted with the Coral Snake hideout and will start your long fight to catch up to the young thief who fled the earlier scene.

Mercy Among Thieves Step 4: Clear the Hideout

The Coral Snake hideout consists of a large, multi-level room filled with enemies. The young thieve will kick down the ladder that gives easy access to the next section, so you need to go all the way around the first zone to reach the next step of the quest.

As for clearing the hideout itself, don’t do what I did and run headlong into the place without support from your pawns. And especially don’t take the first left you come to without support like I did. There are four archers and a sword guy waiting there. It was everything I could do just to get out alive, let alone win the fight by myself.

Work your way around the outskirts of the first area, clearing enemies until you reach the doorway the young thief went through. When you find him and the kids with him, he’ll close the path to the left, so you’ll need to go right. Follow the path until you reach the main portion of the Coral Snake hideout, a massive, sunlit room (if it’s daytime).

Clear all the enemies as you make your way around and to the left until you catch up to the young man. Follow him until a cutscene plays, after which he’ll be arrested by the guards. Don’t forget to pick up the Frost Edges Thief daggers on a platform nearby.

And with that, you’ve successfully completed “Mercy Among Thieves” in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The next phase of the quest starts a few days after the young thief is taken into custody when one of the guards will approach you in Bakbattahl with next steps.
