Where to Find Darth Vader in Fortnite (& How to Defeat Him)

Take down Lord Vader to claim his lightsaber for yourself!

The Fortnite X Star Wars events always mean Star Wars weapons to wield. You may have found Blasters and Bowcasters at the Imperial Roadblocks, but if you want a lightsaber, you will need to track down Darth Vader and defeat him. Here’s how to do that!

How to Fight Darth Vader in Fortnite

In the past, Darth Vader traveled around the map on his ship, and players could track him immediately from the battle bus. We’ve also seen him at a static location, which makes it a bit easier to find him. This time, his shuttle is down at a nearby location and is an Imperial Roadblock.

Unlike the other roadblocks, Darth Vader’s location is separate from the main island. You’ll find it on the small island north of Lavish Lair. At his location, you’ll find his ship higher up on the hill above the usual roadblock area. Vader wanders back and forth between the two, guarded by two Stormtroopers. They will attack you on sight.

If you want to defeat Darth Vader, you’ll want to avoid his detection while you gear up. Land farther away from the ship and loot the Imperial Roadblock for whatever weapons and items you can find. If you’re lucky, you’ll have some Imperial Chests to open and can get a Blaster or, better yet, a Wookie Bowcaster. If you find a shield, you’ll definitely want to use that as well.

Once you’re geared up, the best way to initiate a fight with Darth Vader is to shoot him from a distance. You don’t want to be anywhere in the range of his lightsaber. Once he detects you, he’ll use Force Speed to jump forward toward you. Your best bet is to keep creating distance between you and him, shooting him as much as possible as you do. Ignore the Stormtrooper guards since they’ll stay further back and, with their notoriously lousy aim, most likely not hit you.

As you fight him, Vader has three other types of attacks to look out for: blocks, force pull, and lightsaber throws. Vader uses his lightsaber to block incoming attacks. This is dangerous for you because they can ricochet back and damage you instead. If you notice him blocking, you can just pause the fire and wait for an opening again. Or, if you have the Bowcaster, use a Charge Attack to knock him off balance.

His lightsaber throws and force pulls are what you’ll want to pay the most attention to because they are deadly. Vader will pull you toward him, temporarily putting you into Anti-Grav mode. When he does this, jump away as fast as you can to avoid being drawn to his lightsaber. You can use the same method to avoid his lightsaber throws. It’s all about keeping your distance.

How to Use the Lightsaber in Fortnite

Once you successfully defeat Darth Vader and take care of the rest of the Stormtroopers, you can claim his red lightsaber. It works just like the previous events, swinging and blocking attacks. Plus, you can also throw it at your opponent just like he could do to you.

To use the lightsaber and all its attacks, here are the controls (most of the special moves you can’t do without holding the block button first):

  • Attack: M1/RT/R2
  • Block: M2/LT/L2
    • Evade: Spacebar/A/X
    • Throw Lightsaber: M1/RT/R2

Master the skills of the lightsaber, and you’ll rule the galaxy, aka get that Victory Royale.
