Remnant 2: How to Get Sorrow Handgun

Here's how to get the Sorrow handgun weapon in Remnant 2.

The number of mysteries and hidden items in Remnant 2 is astounding, and if you’ve read any of the many best weapons tier lists for the game, you’re probably wondering how to get the Sorrow handgun. Technically a crossbow, this weapon can be a powerful addition to your arsenal. However, you’ll need to take a specific item to a specific NPC in a specific world if you want to use it against The Root.

How to Get the Sorrow Handgun in Remnant 2

To get the Sorrow handgun in Remnant 2, you must first defeat Kaeula’s Shadow, then take the ring the boss drops (Tear of Kaeula) to Meidre in Yaesha. She’ll give you the crossbow in return.

I’ve written a whole guide on how to defeat Kaeula’s Shadow, including the attacks to look out for and the strats you’ll need to get past the boss. But here’s the TL;DR on beating the annoying beast to get the Sorrow handgun:

  • Follow the purple leaves on the ground in the arena. These indicate shallow water. The deeper water will slow you and keep you from dodge rolling.
  • Don’t worry about the tentacles when Kaeula is out and attacking you. Attacking them wastes time and bullets.
  • Watch out for Kaeula’s burrow ability, then its tentacle thrust when it emerges from the ground. Run away and dodge roll forward, then turn around and shoot.
  • Keep your distance to avoid its axe attack combo.
  • Shoot the tentacles that appear between phases as quickly as possible. Don’t use melee. It’s too risky. Use something like the submachine gun found in Ford’s Chest for this fight if possible.

Where to Find Meidre

Meidre is the blue goddess that appears from a purple willow tree in Yaesha. She’s always in the Far Woods, Dappled Glade subarea of Yaesha, but how you’ll find it will be different based on RNG and your playthrough. To get the Sorrow handgun, speak with her after beating Kaeula’s Shadow. She’ll remark on the Tear of Kaeula ring and offer to let you keep it. Instead, choose the dialog option: “No, this ring belongs to you [Give Tear of Kaeula]. Meidre will thank you and give you the Sorrow handgun as a reward.

It’s possible that you’ll have to answer Meidre’s questions before you receive this dialog option if you haven’t found her yet. Though she was in the same instance for me, it’s also possible that you won’t get the Far Woods, Dappled Glade location in your world alongside Kaeula’s Rest. If not, reroll the world to visit her or start an Adventure playthrough in Yaesha.

The Sorrow handgun is one of the best weapons in all of Remnant 2. Even though I personally prefer other weapons, even the MP60-R SMG, Sorrow can be deadly in the right hands — and with the proper build. Its Eulogy mod “recalls bolts, which deal 32.44 damage when pulled from a target and when striking a target on their return. Recalled bolts grant 2% of max health. Recalled bolts can also overfill Sorrow by up to +5. Any additional bolts will be returned to reserves.” It’s a powerful ability that only costs 600 Mod power.

That’s how to get the Sorrow handgun in Remnant 2. For more tips and tricks, including more item locations articles and boss guides, or our list of where to find each of the game’s Archetypes, head over to our R2 guides hub right here.
