Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — How to Beat Colgera

Here's how to beat Colgera in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Of all the bosses in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Colgera is one of the easiest to beat if you understand the pattern. This is a battle in the skies that requires some savvy moves while airborne. This enemy isn’t a complete pushover either, as it can take you out with one attack if you aren’t careful. If you want to know the ins and outs of this fight, here’s how to beat Colgera in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The best way to beat Colgera in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is to use a bow and arrow to shoot its weak spots behind its spikes and underneath it.

After making your way across the floating platforms to reach the eye of the storm near Rito village, you’ll eventually come to the Wind Temple. Tulin will say that the source of the strange blizzard terrorizing the Ritos is coming from the center of the temple behind a locked gate. It’s then up to you and Tulin to solve some challenging puzzles to release the beast behind the gate.

To beat Colgera, it’s important to have multiple bows and plenty of arrows; I suggest bringing the Great Eagle Bow if you can, but there are plenty of great ranged weapons to bring, as well. Unless your aim is impeccable, then you’ll need about 12 arrows. By far, bows and arrows are the standard and fastest way to beat this boss. It’s a strat used by speed runners like me, with my fastest time to beat Colgera being just under 2mins. However, if you run out of arrows, there’s another option.

How to Beat Colgera Phase 1 Strategy

At the start of the fight, you’ll already be in the air diving toward Colgera as he flies below. While the boss dips and dives, you’ll notice that it has three round sections of spikes. Its weak spots are behind the spikes and on its underbelly. However, they’re protected by ice.

The boss will fly around plenty and periodically dive into a portal to attack you from below. Avoid the attack from below as best as possible, as it is one of the strongest. After flying above it for a while, Colgera will begin to shoot the spikes toward you, revealing the ice-covered weak spots.

Dive toward the boss, and shoot arrows to break the ice. Then shoot one more arrow to hit the exposed spot, dealing massive damage. The weak ice-covered areas are also exposed underneath Colgera, too. So another strategy is to dive below it and begin shooting the weak spots from there as well.

Because time slows when readying a bow in mid-air, you can pull off multiple shots at a time in quick succession. This means you can hit all three of Colgera’s weak points in one go with correct positioning and aim. Destroying the third weak spot will then initiate Phase 2 of the boss fight.

How to Beat Colgera Phase 2 Strategy

When Phase 2 kicks in, the battle gets a bit harder. Colgera will shoot spikes more often. On top of that, it can now summon many tornadoes that you’ll need to avoid as you make your way toward it. As if that wasn’t enough, Colgera adds a spin to its attack from below that makes it nearly impossible to dodge. This is the part of the battle where Tulin really shines. His gust of wind power can boost you away to safety, so I suggest using it often.

Aside from Colgera’s new moves, the fight is still the same. You can beat him by shooting the weak spots behind the scale or on its underbelly.

How to Beat Colgera Without Using Arrows

Surprisingly, you can still damage Colgera without using weapons at all. You can use Link to dive-bomb Colgera’s weak points. Just be sure to wait until the weak spots are revealed and it shoots the spikes toward you. Dodge the spikes and plow into the spot for big damage. Since Link can’t fly as fast as arrows, and you can’t dive bomb from below, this method is a lot slower. Even so, this is a great option if you happen to be out of bows or arrows during the fight.
