Top Five Minecraft Survival Seeds For 2017
[Take me back to GameSkinny's Ultimate Minecraft Seed Guide]
"It's all about survival now. At any cost. People out there are always looking for an angle. Looking to play on your weakness. They measure you by what they can take from you. By how they can use you to live."
-- Rick Grimes
Rick's not entirely wrong. Video game developers and modders have fallen in love with these survival-based games in recent years, with varying ideas on the old-school tropes of zombie apocalypses and nuclear fallout.
Some games, like The Last of Us and Fallout 4, have worked pretty well; others...well, the less said about The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, the better.
With a game like Minecraft where seemingly anything is possible, building levels and seeds that focus on survival have become more and more popular as well.
In the past, GameSkinny has looked at some basic survival island seeds for Minecraft and today, we're going to look at some more. From amusement parks to zombie hordes, these are the types of seeds for players who want a challenge.
But, if you fit more into the lazy category, don't worry; GameSkinny has the perfect list for you to check out as well.
Grab your weapons, talk to your group members, and prepare to be quiet because it's survival time.
Survival Island & Ocean Monument

Welcome to the island of the ocean monument, which sounds like the title of a 1990's game show on Nickelodeon. Could this have been the working title for Legends of the Hidden Temple?
The big deal about this island, as you've probably guessed by now, is this ocean monument that's on its own island. To get there, you'll wan to fly diagonally to your right and keep going until another island pops up. Stop flying, land, and get all the way over to the left side of the island where you'll find the magic, mystical monument.
For those of you who played the older Pokemon games, think of this island as one of the events for someone like Mew or Jirachi.
If you're planning on traveling to 'game show island' in survival mode, bring some weapons that are going to pack a punch. Apparently, some of the 'guardians' like picking fights and if they're anything like some of the creatures from Legends of the Hidden Temple, then they're going to want to make sure you suffer...or lose.
Ultimate Survival Seed

There is absolutely nothing to this island and I love it. While this may come off as a lazy creation at first glance, think about what survival means and how much the idea of an island that has nothing to it has been used to demonstrate survival in history.
Between Lost, Gilligan's Island, Lord of the Flies, and Family Guy, the trope of an abandoned island with few resources screams challenge to those who are used to the finer things in life. Though, that's not entirely true as this island does have some resources.
Even I'll admit, though, that a Sugarcane and an underground dungeon -- which comes full with a mob spawner and a chest -- isn't enough resource-wise. There's not much to this island, but that's the fun of the island! It's on you to make this Lost-like island work and if not, the ending will probably be as bad as the actual TV show's...
...what? You knew as soon as I mentioned Lost that a joke was coming.
Glitched Ice Village

I like this one because as a former New Yorker living in Florida, I don't really get to see the snow that often anymore. Here, though, you'll actually get to see some snow on both the village's outskirts and on some of the houses themselves!
Said village, which will henceforth be referred to as Penguin Village, features a blacksmith and some great aerial shots. It's important to note that this isn't a perfect map, as there are some holes in the houses and there's sadly not enough snow to go around.
I also really like Penguin Village's winter, almost ski lodge-like look when it comes to the houses. Having the grass perfectly visible on one side and the snow on the other may come off as jarring, but there are places in the real world that look like that.
But, that adds to the fun and challenge of it; when you see how much of the island is perfect and how much of it is glitched, it's almost as if the programmer did that on purpose to provide that true 'survival-like' element. How does Steve survive in a village that's glitched and filled with snow, with nowhere to hide from the approaching storm.
Then again, having a Penguin Village with some faults in it is the best way to honor Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama!
Two Desert Temples At Spawn

This looks like something out you'd see in either the Bible or a George Lucas movie: sand, sand, and more sand. There's some a village here and there, but the main appeal with this seed happens to be the temples.
Taking a page out of the George Lucas book, there is a lot of loot to be found in the temples. How much loot, you ask? Let's look at just one of the temples.
- Enchanted Book: Lure III
- Enchanted Book: Thorns I
- 24 gold ingots
- 3 emeralds
- 15 bones
- 15 iron ingots
- 11 rotten flesh
That is indeed a lot of loot. There's also some TNT traps in another temple, but making it to the end will net you some more loot!
- Enchanted Book: Protection II
- 1 emerald
- 4 diamonds
- 10 gold ingots
- 2 iron ingots
- 1 saddle
- 17 bones
- 12 rotten flesh
This is great! You'll definitely want to download this seed as soon as you can, but make sure to have that John Williams playing in the background so that it fits the mood.

What you see upon your arrival was once a beautiful, oceanside village with a loving community, a thriving ecosystem -- helped greatly by all of the fish they could catch -- and the great reality that whatever threat there was on the mainland wouldn't ever affect them.
That was, until, the great flood came. Many were killed in the initial gushes of water, with several others who managed to make it onto the escape boats meeting a similar fate.
Now, only the loyal blacksmith remains, tending to his weapons and preparing for the mutant sea creatures that would arise from the water. With him, he has a fire axe covered in barbed wire and fish guts and a baseball bat that, when swung, will have knives come out of the wood to stab his opponent.
And now, for the first time in months, the blacksmith hears the voice of footsteps outside. Whoever it is, whoever has found their way to his island, will make sure to pay the price...
...well, that's not the official lore, but it could work for this map! Going to an abandoned, flooded island and seeing only a blacksmith is terrifying in its own right!
