Fortnite Heat Guide: How to Get Heat, Its Uses, and Perks

Heat in Fortnite is a cool mechanic that gives you a fun risk and reward opportunity in Royale matches. Here's how to earn yours and the perks you can expect to get.

As a part of the Most Wanted event, Fornite has kept the Heat mechanic in the Battle Royale. With it, you can earn cool effects that can change the tides in your average match.

As your rank rises, you get perks like regenerating health. However, you’ll also get a lot of attention from other players. This adds a spin to the usual gameplay but also makes it more fun.

Heat can be a little confusing, though, because the game doesn’t provide much explanation on how it works, only putting flame icons int he top left corner of the screen. With that in mind, here’s how to use and get heat in Fortnite.

How to Gain Heat in Fortnite

There are many sources of Heat in Fortnite. There are several interactables and actions you can do that subtly increase the gauge in the top left. One of the most obvious ways of increasing Heat is by killing other players and battling Cold-Blooded Goons littered around the map.

There are more quiet ways that generate Heat as well, like opening certain chests and vaults that you find around the map. The chests give off a gold aura and the vaults can be unlocked with the keycard you earn from beating Cold-Blooded bosses.

On top of that, you can increase your rank by using Burner Payphones and paying 500 gold bars. These phones become easier to see on your map as you get closer to them.

What Do Heat Levels in Fortnite Mean? — Perks and Benefits

Here are the perks and benefits you gain from each heat level earned:

  • Level 1: Enemies killed grant more gold bars for pickup.
  • Level 2: Gain the ability to regenerate 100 health when out of combat with an added 15% movement speed buff.
  • Level 3: Regen 100 health and 50 shields out of combat and a 20% movement speed buff.
  • Level 4: Regen 100 health and shields out of combat and a 25% movement speed buff.

After filling your first flame, the Heat perks start to kick in. Use these perks to gain more gold, which can be used to buy weapons and services from various NPCs. Then use the new goods on your enemies to keep raking in more infamy.

It’s important to keep in mind how much Heat you have, though. As your infamy level increases, so does the amount of attention you call to yourself. This makes you more visible on the map and means Cold-Blooded Goons will hunt you down as well. On the other hand, these are great battle opportunities to increase your ranking even more.
