Whether you just want to decorate your secret base, collect flags, or battle other people, I got you covered. I’ll help you understand the new system of secret bases introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

This guide will go over everything about Super Secret Bases including:

  • Your First Base – When you get your first base and can start looking for more.
  • Designing Your Base – Everything you can put in your base, such as decorations and furniture.
  • Sharing Your Base – Ways to share your base with people and other multiplayer features.

Your First Base

You get access to your first base by getting to Route 111, after going to Mauville City for the first time. An NPC, Aarune, gives you the TM, Secret Power, and explains a bit about Secret Bases.

The base he shows you becomes yours when he leaves. You can use that one, or find a new one at any time now. You can only have one base at a time.

Secret Power is a move that you can use in combat, but it is also how you make a secret base. Teach this move to one of your Pokémon and take it with you while on your adventure.

Whenever you see a bush, an opening in a wall, or a tree, you can use Secret Power on that spot to open the base. You’ll walk in and be able to see the base before deciding whether you want to set that location as your base.

Designing Your Base

There are many things you can do with your secret base, but the most common is decorating. There are many kinds of decorations you can put in your base:

  • Desks
  • Chairs
  • Mats
  • Plants
  • Objects
  • Wall art
  • Dolls
  • Cushions
  • Appliances
  • Tricks

You can only put 20 decorations though, so choose wisely. You can also change where your character stands in the base when people come to visit.

For the bases that have a big wall that you can’t go past, you need to get stairs. You cannot reach the space behind the wall unless you put stairs on that wall. This also counts as one of your decorations.

Buying Decorations

There is a secret base store in Slateport City that sells secret base items. You have to unlock secret bases before you can buy from this shop.

Aarune also has a Secret Base Guild in Fortree City. He gives you Proclamation the first time you go there. This is a decoration allows you to set battle rules for your secret base.

The guild also has a shop for more secret base items.

Sharing Your Base

You can visit other players’ secret bases by passing them if you have the streetpass feature turned on, or by scanning their QR Code pattern.

When customizing your base, you can make a QR Code for other players to scan, using the 3DS camera. It automatically adds their base to your list and you can visit their base at any time, as long as it is in a different place from your own or other secret bases in your list.

When you visit another player’s base, you can take a flag if they have one. Getting more flags for your base increases your base’s rank. More on that in a bit.

Expanding Your Base

You can also battle them. You can only fight a player once a day and it resets after midnight. You can’t battle them on the day you add them until after midnight.

If you like someone, you can add them to your Secret Team. When you do this, they will leave their base and come to yours. You can have up to 5 members on your team and place them however you want in your base.

This is only an NPC of the player though so don’t worry about taking someone out of their base. Also, their base will still be there, the NPC just won’t be.

These people will also have a power they can use once a day. There are a variety of powers including, raising the level of a select Pokémon, giving new furniture, and making eggs hatch faster.

As your base rank increases, from getting flags, so will your secret team members’ powers.

By forming a secret team, placing them around your base, and setting your own battle rules, you can have your very own gym! There are even Gym statue decorations just like the ones used in official gyms.
