Valheim Fermenter: How to Build and Use It to Make Potions

Here's how to build and use the Valheim fermenter for potion brewing, including how to use mead base to do so.

It is hard to get by in Valheim without the help of potions. They can restore your health and stamina, and some even give you various kinds of resistances. Having a way to consistently brew fresh potions is extremely important in the game’s deadlier biomes. Our Valheim fermenter guide will help you build and use the potion brewing station.

The Fermenter uses a variety of mead bases for brewing potions, so be prepared to stockpile a large amount of honey and other food items. After you’ve built the station, you can use it to create the seven types of potions listed below.

How to Build the Valheim Fermenter

You can build the fermenter using a simple Wood Hammer (3x Wood, 2x Stone) and the following recipe:

  • 30x Fine Wood
  • 5x Bronze
  • 10x Resin

The first thing you need to obtain is bronze. This crafting material can be obtained by smelting copper and tin in the forge. Both copper and tin ores can be mined in the Black Forest biome. Here’s how to mark areas of the map so you don’t have to memorize where deposits are.

Once you’ve obtained enough bronze, you can use it to craft a bronze axe; this is the only tool that can cut down birch and oak trees, which are the main components of fine wood.

Finally, you can get resin by chopping down trees or killing Greyling and Greydwarf creatures that reside in the Meadows and Black Forest biomes respectively. Though it is better to hunt during the evening or at night since they spawn in groups, they are also more dangerous at these times.

How to Use the Valheim Fermenter

Before you can brew your potions, you need to create the mead base for each of them in the Cauldron (10x Tin) using the following recipes:

Mead Base
Recipe
Minor Healing 10x Honey
5x Blueberries
10x Raspberries
1x Dandelion
Medium Healing
10x Honey
4x Bloodbags
10x Raspberries
1x Dandelion
Minor Stamina
10x Honey
10x Raspberries
10x Yellow Mushroom
Medium Stamina
10x Honey
10x Cloudberries
10x Yellow Mushroom
Frost Resistance
10x Honey
5x Thistle
2x Bloodbag
1x Greydwarf Eye
Poison Resistance
10x Honey
5x Thistle
10x Coal
1x Neck Tail
Tasty (Stamina) 10x Honey
10x Raspberries
5x Blueberries

Once your mead base is ready, you can put the base inside the fermenter and wait for two in-game day/night cycles for potions to brew. This time usually equals between 30-60 minutes of real-time. Each Mead Base will give you six potions per one fermenting cycle.

That’s everything you need to know on how build and use the Valheim Fermenter. Now that you know what crafting materials to scavenge for, how to build the cauldron, and the ingredients for each mead base, you’ll have more potions than you know what to do with.
