New World: How to Get Void Metal

Void Metal is a resource necessary if you're looking to craft higher-level weapons in New World, so here's how to get it.

Void metal is an integral crafting material in New World, you’ll want to get your hands on it sooner rather than later. Void metal is used in some higher level crafting recipes, in particular weapons. You’re definitely going to need it, but it can be elusive if you don’t know where to look.

How to Mine Void Metal in New World

Your primary method of gaining Void Metal is through mining, which you’ll need to craft a Mining Pickaxe in order to do. You’ll want to look for Iron Veins to mine, which can be found all over the map. However, there’s only a small chance you’ll gain Void Metal when you mind an Iron Vein, and the chances are dictated by both your luck and Mining skill.

In order to increase your Mining skill, you’ll simply need to mine a lot, and you’ll need to gain a few levels before you even have a chance of getting Void Metal. Luck is easier to play around with as you can get a sizable boost by simply eating any potato-based dish, such as Boiled Potatoes or Herb-Roasted Potatoes.

Iron Veins will respawn every 20 minutes, so if you find a spot with a bunch you can return often. Alternatively, there’s a handy fan-made map that lets you search for specific resources in New World, like Iron Veins.

Other Ways of Getting Void Metal

While mining Iron Veins is the most reliable method of getting Void Metal, you have a few other options as well. The most obvious is simply using the trading post to buy some, but that relies on player supply. There’s also a small chance of gaining Void Metal by searching various Supply Caches, Crates, and so on. Again this is a small chance, so it’s not super reliable.

Finally, you can find Void Metal by defeating Tundra Elementals (glowing green wolves) and Mountain Elementals (glowing green bears).

Both can be found in Edengrove, while Tundra Elements also pop up in the Dryad Ruins of Ebonscale Reach and Bronzegrove in Brightwood.

Make sure your Mining skill is at least 100 before trying this method, as after you defeat an Elemental you’ll need to mine it. Like with Iron Veins, mining Elementals gives you a chance of getting Void Metal but doesn’t guarantee it.
