There are two possible causes for the black screen to appear for many players: one is the server queues, and the other one is the graphics settings. Both happen often enough to create waves of frustration among the players, so follow our guide below to fix this problem.

How to Fix Black Screen in New World

Wait for the Server Queues

One of the more frequent reports coming from New World players is the black screen appearing right after the character creation screen and during an attempt to enter the game.

At this point the game simply blacks out, and many players have no idea what is happening. In most cases this simply means that the servers are trying to connect your PC, but since the game just launched and the online queues are huge, it may take some time before your game begins.

The only solution to this problem is to just wait it out. It may take several minutes minutes or it may take hours. For now, the developer has to fix this issue on their part and players can’t do much else except waiting.

Adjust Your Graphical Settings

New World is a demanding video game when it comes to your hardware. That’s why many players may experience black screens during gameplay or even at the startup of the game.

This may happen due to a default Very High graphics setting, which needs to be lowered:

  1. Open the “Settings” menu in the game
  2. Go to “Visuals” tab
  3. Set the “Video Quality” to “High” or “Medium

This simple action will reduce the load on your GPU and CPU, and can be a huge help.

If your black screen appears at startup, then force it to open in a windowed mode:

  1. Right-click on the New World icon on your desktop
  2. Select “Properties
  3. Go to “Shortcut” tab
  4. At the end of the Target line add: -window
  5. Apply and close

Once you were able to start the game, apply the windowed mode in the game settings:

  1. Open the “Settings” menu in the game
  2. Go to “Visuals” tab
  3. Set “Window Mode” to “Windowed

After this you can remove the windowed tag from the game’s icon on your desktop.

That’s all you need to know on how to fix black screen in New World.
