CoD MW3: How to Turn Off Crossplay

You don't have to match with players on other platforms if you don't want to. Here's how to turn off crossplay in CoD MW3.

There are two reasons you might want to turn off crossplay in Modern Warfare 3, those being connectivity issues and simply not wanting to deal with players on other platforms. We’ll go over how to turn off crossplay in MW3 to save you some trouble in either regard.

If you’re playing on console, there’s one very big reason to turn off MW3 crossplay unless you’re feeling particularly confident: crossplay includes the PC crowd, who are using keyboard and mouse. If you don’t want to deal with the increased precision of KBM players on PC, turn off crossplay.

Having crossplay enabled can also make connectivity issues worse, such as the Packet Burst error. If you’re running into errors related to server connectivity, turning off crossplay may very well help.

How to Turn Crossplay Off in CoD: MW3

It’s really easy to turn off crossplay in MW3. If, for some reason, you’re fine with crossplay but don’t want to communicate directly with players on other platforms, you can also just turn off crossplay communication. But, you’re probably more looking to turn it off completely. I found you can turn off MW3 crossplay with the following steps:

  1. In the multiplayer or War Mode hub, select the gear icon at the top right of the screen to open Settings.
    • You can’t change your crossplay settings while in a lobby or in a match.
  2. Navigate down to Account and Network settings, which is pretty far down the list.
  3. “Crossplay” will be the first option. Toggle it to “Off” to disable crossplay.

If you’re just trying to turn off crossplay communication, you can find the setting for that just below the main crossplay toggle. Though, there’s not much point in just turning off cross-platform communication, unless you’re getting verbally roasted by players on other platforms but don’t want to stop matching with them.

Now that you know how to turn off crossplay in MW3, you can stick to being matched with players of your preferred platform. Heck, it might even make the game more stable, as it did for me. Check out our huge library of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 guides here on GameSkinny.
