Elder Scrolls Online – Fix Slow Loading Issues

Easily fix your slow loading and other issues with this simple fix for Elder Scrolls Online

Slow loading times and zones can be a huge headache in an MMO. No one likes lag. I have been dealing with this for over a week in Elder Scrolls Online. I could not figure out why I was having such bad loading lag with the specs on my machine which I’ve only owned for about 2 months.

About three days into the Early Access period, I also ran into the issue that my escape key did not work in-game. Without access to this menu, there are so many in-game options that you can not change. As frustration mounted, I contact support which told me to reload the game or hit the Full Stop key (which they indicated as the . key) and try. Neither of these options had worked before but I tried them again, to no avail.

With no other option so far to try, I took matters into my own hands. My option was to try a reinstall. I was running off my beta download since they told us we could continue to use the initial client. I went into my PC control panel and uninstalled The Elder Scrolls Online beta. Not looking forward to downloading the 20 gigs of game files again, I downloaded the installer from ESO‘s account page. I started it up and choose all my options.

When the launcher came back up, I was mentally prepared for the long download. What I did not expect was to be presented with a Play button. I just knew if I hit the Play button, it was not going to work. Low and behold, I opened the game and everything is as it should be. Loading is fast and my escape key is working.

The beta client is the issue. Somehow the beta client is interfering with the regular client and causing a host of issues. I can only speak for my slow loading issues (in which case I would sometimes end up falling through infinite space as a zone didn’t load or stuck in stairs) and my escape key, but if you are experiencing issues, this could be the solution for you.

Steps to Fix Loading Issues:
  1. Uninstall beta client.
  2. Download client from ESO’s website in your account tools.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Load launcher and hit play.
