How to Get Rocket League Splitscreen to Work on PC

Are you a fan of Rocket League and miss the old days of local multiplayer? Learn how to bring split-screen gaming back to your life

In the early days of the video game industry, during the halcyon days of the arcade era, the only way for players to enjoy a great competitive or co-op experience was through local multiplayer.

The trend continued in the first generations of consoles, but after the internet became widely available to the mass market in the mid to late 1990s, gamers shifted their focus and started to play with and against each other online, rather than locally through a LAN connection.

Some players, however, still crave the inimitable experience of playing side-by-side with their peers, sitting on the same couch, playing on the same TV.

If you’re one of these gamers and play Rocket League there’s a way to get that old LAN-gaming, couch co-op experience right now. And we can show you how to enable it.

Enabling Rocket League’s Split Screen Co-Op: It is Simpler Than You Think

First, you must note that the procedure to play in split screen mode varies if both players are using controllers, or if one one player is using a keyboard while the other is using a controller.

First, we will first go through a scenario where each player is using a controller. This configuration consists of two easy steps:

  1. Start the game with all controllers connected;
  2. on the title screen, the main player must press a button to continue to the main menu. As soon as the main player arrives on the menu screen, all other players must press “START” on their controllers. This enables split screen co-op.

Now, if one player is using a keyboard and the other player is using a controller, the procedure is a bit different, but still very simple:

  1. On the title screen, plug and unplug the second controller until the light on the controller shifts to “Player 2;”
  2. In the menu, the second player must press “START,” in order to enable the split-screen mode.

These short (and easy) steps will allow you to play Rocket League in split-screen. If you have any questions or problems, let us know in the comments and we will be glad to help!
