Much like the majority of competitive online multiplayer games, Paladins has a currency system used to acquire new characters, skills, and cosmetics. One of the forms of currency, Essence, is used to craft Cards that affect a champion’s loadout at the beginning of a game. The cards enhance or change the skills of champions, allowing for a variety of different playstyles.
In this guide we’ll go over all of the different ways in which you can get Essence in Paladins, and how you can spend it. It’s fairly simple, but knowing the different ways of acquiring it can help you save up a large sum pretty quickly.
How to Acquire Essence in Paladins
Complete the Tutorial
For new players, the easiest way to get a lot of Essence is by completing the Basic Tutorial. The mode only takes a few minutes and rewards you with 36,000 Essence right off the bat. That’s enough to get at least one or two characters a decent amount of cards for their loadout.
Log In Daily
Daily Reward Login Bonuses are another easy way to get some essence to build up your assets. On the 4th, 5th, and 6th consecutive day in a row logging in, the game will reward you with up to 1,000 Essence. After the 7th day, the logins reset and you’ll have another chance to get some essence by taking advantage of the bonuses.
Weekly Quests
There are a few Weekly Quests that hand out Essence as a reward as well. Weekly Quests are given out once per week per player, and can stack up to six at a time. The quests consist of objectives like playing 10 games or winning four games in a party. And each one can reward up to 1,000 Essence.
If you don’t mind shelling out some cash, you can pick up the Founder’s Pack for $20. This unlocks all current and future characters in the game and gives you a whopping 72,000 Essence.
Radiant Chests
Joining a myriad of other reward-based treasure chests in Paladins are Radiant Chests. They’re purchased with the game’s other two forms of currency — gold and crystals. The chests are sold for either 2,500 Gold or 50 Crystals and are also sold in bulk to include discounts to the Crystals cost. The chests are also obtained each time players level up their account, and occasionally when they level up their champions.
Radiant Chests reward players with Cards and cosmetic items. Any Cards already owned by a player automatically get turned into Essence. Because Cards have different rarities, this is how they’re disenchanted into Essence.
- Common cards give 250 Essence
- Rare cards give 350 Essence
- Epic cards give 1250 Essence
Note cards that you own only one of can also be disenchanted into Essence for the same values, they just get removed from any loadouts they were being used in.
What Essence is Good For
So now you’ve got all this Essence, what do you with it? It’s simple — players can use Essence to craft cards they don’t already own through the Cards screen in a champion’s profile. Just like the cards’ rarities break down into categories on how much Essence they give you, they each cost a specific amount as well.
- Common cards cost 350 Essence
- Rare cards cost 1,000 Essence
- Epic cards cost 4,000 Essence
- Legendary cards cost 10,000 Essence
