How to Get the Laughing Safe Code

When players complete the first three puzzles, the boy will ask them to open the laughing safe at the Shinra Mansion in the town. Finding the safe on the second floor of the mansion is easy, but opening it is a totally different story.

Players may notice a piece of paper on the floor next to the safe with four basic hints:

  • Knowledge overflowing.
  • Unwelcome faces.
  • Tasty reminders of home.
  • Resting on all four feet.

These hints tell players which objects they need to look out for in the mansion and count them. Each number will then serve as the part of the safe code, which is random for each player and gameplay session.

Here’s what you need to do in order to get all four digits right:

  1. Go to the second floor of the mansion and look through they keyhole of the northeastern door.
  2. Count all the books that are not a part of the bookshelf (first digit).
  3. Go to the first floor of the mansion and look through they keyhole of the eastern door.
  4. Count all the Dorky Face monsters in the room (second digit).
  5. Go to the second floor of the mansion and look through they keyhole of the last door in the hall.
  6. Count all the Banora apples and tin cans with apples in the room (third digit).
  7. Go to the first floor of the mansion and look through they keyhole of the western door.
  8. Count all the chairs in the room (fourth digit).

After that, return to the safe room and enter the code. As a reward, players will get the Vital Slash materia.
