Dead Space Remake: How to Unlock the Secret, Alternative Ending

Curious about the secret, alternate ending in the Dead Space Remake? We'll tell you how to get it.

The Dead Space Remake is faithful to the original in a lot of ways, but it does make a few key additions: side quests that flesh out the story, Dead Space 2‘s zero-g segments, a fully-explorable USG Ishimura that isn’t segmented into levels, and a whole lot more. But one major addition is a secret, alternate ending not seen in the 2008 original.  Wondering how to get it? We’ve got you covered.

How to Unlock the Secret, Alternative Ending – Answered

First things first: you’ll need to finish to the game. It doesn’t matter what difficulty you play on. Just beat Dead Space Remake. Once you have a completed save file, you’ll want to start a game in New Game Plus mode

Find All the Marker Shards

Once you’re on New Game Plus, play through the game as normal, but keep an eye out for a new collectible scattered around the USG Ishimura: Marker Shards. These black shards are smaller versions of the Red Marker aboard the Ishimura. They’re surrounded by a purple glow, so they’re not generally too hard to spot, but they can be hidden in strange places.

There are 12 of them in all. Once you have all of them, take them to Captain Mathius’ cabin, located on Floor 3 of the Crew Quarters, and place them on the table displaying his Marker statue. It’s important to note that you have to do this before leaving the Ishimura, as you won’t have the chance again later. Once you’ve placed all 12 Marker Shards, finish the game as you normally would, and you’ll see the secret, alternative ending. For more tips, head over to our Dead Space Remake guides hub.
