Jedi Survivor Combat Basics: Parrrying, Deflecting, and Countering Explained

Think of this game as akin to a Souls-like title. Getting hit by an attack can be downright punishing, but you can safely mitigate or avoid damage if you’re ready for it. You’re playing as a Jedi, after all.

The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor parry and deflect systems rely on the dodge and block buttons. Dodging, or avoiding an attack completely, can lower an enemy’s guard if you time it correctly.

Blocking, meanwhile, is used to mitigate damage when you’re hit. It’s also automatically done when enemies are firing at you, though some projectiles will still hit. If you block just as a Stormtrooper or Droid shoots at you, the projectile will get reflected right back at  them, leading to a quick kill.

Moreover, if you perform a block just as an enemy is about to hit you in melee, you’ll perform a perfect parry, which has a nifty glow effect. This, in turn, temporarily stuns your foe, allowing you to follow up with a few hits.

Alternatively, it will lower their guard meter. Once fully depleted, you can follow up with more strikes. Eventually, if an opponent’s HP is low enough, you’ll see a red icon. Do any normal attack, and your character will initiate a counter or kill move, usually severing your foe’s limbs or slashing them brutally with your Lightsaber.

Lastly, do note that your character also has a block/guard meter, which is dependent on your chosen Lightsaber Stance. If that’s depleted, you’ll also take a hit, so watch out for tense moments.

These are the parry, deflect, and counter systems in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Make sure you master these combat mechanics so you’re ready for tougher fights down the line. To learn more about the game, you can visit our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor guides hub.
