Will Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) have DLC? Answered

Will we get a DLC for Tears of the Kingdom? Nintendo might have let the answer slip.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has finally arrived and the new title has surpassed all expectations. With the expansion of Hyrule as well as Link’s handy new abilities, we can now explore the open world to a much greater degree than in the previous installment, Breath of the Wild. This was no easy feat, considering Tears of the Kingdom received some criticism prior to launch for being somewhat of a glorified DLC to its predecessor.

Despite the hearsay, Tears of the Kingdom has quickly become a fan-favorite Zelda entry thanks to its revolutionary additions to the iconic franchise. While it goes without saying that the game has a lot to offer, future DLC could further expand Hyrule in a big way. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, but we do have reason to believe that Tears of the Kingdom may receive DLC somewhere down the line — and perhaps soon.

Nintendo is remaining pretty tight-lipped when it comes to plans for a Tears of the Kingdom DLC. However, a quick look at a previous version of the game’s official website might reveal more than its publisher had planned. In taking a look at the Wayback Machine, I noticed that a DLC was suggested at the very bottom of the page, clarifying that a “full version of the game is required to use DLC,” which is sold separately.

I checked and this version of the website has since been updated to remove the statement. Whether this was done to correct a fallacy or a mere slip-up, we can’t be sure. In any case, it would make sense for Nintendo to release a DLC for Tears of the Kingdom since Breath of the Wild launched alongside a two-part DLC in the form of The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad Expansion Pass.

For the time being, it remains to be seen whether Tears of the Kingdom will get the same treatment as its predecessor. If the previous installment is any indicator, however, we just might get more than we bargained for when it comes to a potential DLC for Tears of the Kingdom.
