The prairie poppy is one of the most useful materials that can be used in crafting. It has a wide variety of uses in both the main campaign and Red Dead Online.

If you’ve been wondering how to find the prairie poppy in either mode, here’s how you can get your hands on that sweet, sweet poppy.

Where is the Prairie Poppy?

The prairie poppy can be found in the Great Plains and West Elizabeth. Most prominently, they can be found scattered near Blackwater.

You can tell a prairie poppy apart from any other plant because poppies have a yellow flower on the top of their stem. When searching for them in these areas, you’ll more often than not find them clustered around train tracks

In Red Dead Redemption 2‘s early hours, the Blackwater area commands a high bounty on your head, making access to the area very hard. If you’re in desperate need of poppies, though, a quick trip over with one of your horses or through fast travel is highly advisable.

The Great Plains also doesn’t unlock until the later hours of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s campaign, so the majority of your early hours will be spent scouring Blackwater and it’s surrounding areas.

In Red Dead Online, you’ll be able to freely explore Blackwater and gather them to your heart’s content.

If you’re struggling and need more specific guidance, then this map indicates some of the specific locations the Prairie Poppy resides.

What does the Prairie Poppy do?

The prairie poppy is most notably used to craft snake oil, which refills your dead eye meter. In the early hours of Red Dead Redemption 2, your dead eye ability will be fairly weak and as a result, it will drain fairly quickly.

Crafting snake oil and its enhanced versions such as special snake oil, you’ll easily be able to keep your dead eye meter filled, which is good against bandits and legendary animals alike.

The poppy can also be consumed on its own if you’re in a pinch, but it lacks the full enhancements a bottle of snake oil would grant you.
