It’s that time again. All PlayStation Plus members can download seven titles for free on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Vita. Six of the seven titles will be available from November 7th until December 5th. The seventh, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, will be available through January 2nd. Until Dawn is also a PSVR title.

PlayStation 4 owners can download four games, one thanks to Cross-Buy with the Vita. There’s Dungeon Punks for Vita and PlayStation 4, which is an Action RPG that provides entertainment with friends, against friends, and solo. PlayStation 4 also gets Worms Battlegrounds, which is described on the PlayStation Store as bringing “friends and families together in the noble pursuit of self‐improvement, world domination and exploding sheep.”

There is also Bound, a game all about dance. Players have the option to experience the game completely with PSVR, navigating the world via modern-dance-inspired moves. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood finishes off PlayStation 4’s list. This game requires PlayStation VR and Camera and is for those of us who celebrate Halloween all year round with horror games.

PlayStation 3 owners have been gifted with Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic and R-Type Dimensions, while Vita owners can enjoy Dungeon Punks and Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse (Episodes 1 & 2).

Here’s the complete list with links to the PlayStation Store:

PlayStation 4:

Worms Battlegrounds
Dungeon Punks (PS4 and Vita)
Bound
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

PlayStation 3:

Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was just recently announced to be in development for PSVR at this year's E3. With the success and support for Skyrim, it is no surprise that the game will make the leap to VR. With a remaster that came out last year, Skryim was ready for its next installment.

\n

Experience Skyrim as if you were there, holding your own weapons and fighting against the many enemies found there with PSVR. The fun gameplay from the original will only get better in a VR setting. Magic, shields, swords, arrows and spells will be at the tip of your finger tips this November!

Eve: Valkyrie

\n

Taking place in the universe of EVE, Eve: Valkyrie puts the player into the shoes of an outlaw band of galactic pirates, chasing infamy and wealth.

\n

Gorgeous visuals invite you into the world, and VR capabilities truly immerse you in this galactic universe. The use of the VR headset allows for a full range of motion to find enemies from every direction. The space battles feel real and challenging.

\n

Eve: Valkyrie offers a variety of customization with weapon loadouts, different battle tactics, and an extensive collection of ships to choose from. Flying has never been so fun.

Driveclub VR

\n

Driveclub VR offers an amazing 360 experience for those who love racing games. With a solo campaign as well as competitive racing among friends, Driveclub VR is the best racing game currently available for VR. (And here at GS, we think the non-VR version is the best racing game for PS4.) Beautiful landscapes and amazing tracks will immerse you in a way that no other racing game can.

\n

The VR version also includes DLC from Driveclub, along with completely new modes and elements exclusive to the VR experience. Your street racing and car crashing days will feel infinitely more real and exhilarating with Driveclub VR.

Farpoint

\n

Farpoint, one of Sony's bigger promotions for PSVR, is a space survival story. You are tasked with meeting up with scientists who are already in space near Jupiter, right as a rupture in space sends everyone to a hostile alien world.

\n

While searching the world for clues about your crew and information about the world itself, you will encounter unfriendly alien creatures. Farpoint boasts the use of the PSVR Aim Controller, which allows the player to aim as if using a real weapon, as well as control your character with DualShock 4 controls.

\n

An innovative game like this one is definitely worth checking out!

Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood

\n

Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood is another horror VR experience that is sure to get your heart pumping. As an arcade-style first-person shooter, this game packs a different sort of gameplay that we don't see too often in the mainstream gaming world nowadays.

\n

But Rush of Blood delivers an incredibly frightening 360-degree experience, with enemies coming at you from every angle. The roller coaster ride offers multiple paths and waves of enemies that guarantees no two rides will be the same.

\n

If you are a sucker for horror games, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is definitely one you should pick up.

Resident Evil 7

\n

Resident Evil 7 is the latest entry in the Resident Evil series. A norm in the Resident Evil series, this game strays from the typical third-person shooter style. The shift to first person was implemented in order to run this game effectively in VR -- which makes the experience incredibly scary. Nothing gets your blood pumping like jump scares and dark hallways.

\n

Experiencing the story of Ethan Winters with the immersion of a VR headset really maxes out the spine-chilling setting and story. An incredibly creepy family has abducted you (and possibly your wife), and there is no easy way out. When you can step right into Ethan's point of view, this game will scare the crap out of you.

Sony has recently announced that sales for the PlayStation VR have surpassed one million units. Since its launch, Sony has expressed its own surprise at the peripheral's reception. And of course, its success is somewhat because of the games released alongside it -- but it's also because the PSVR is a well-crafted and well-developed piece of hardware. In the world of VR headsets, Sony's PSVR holds its own.

\n

With previously released games like Skyrim moving into the VR space and new games being developed specifically to be explored in VR, now is definitely the time to see what kinds of worlds are being built! From developers like Capcom and Guerrilla Cambridge come some of the most enjoyable PSVR games out there to date -- many games that anyone can enjoy.

Dog Soldiers
\n

Dog Soldiers is cult British horror film set in the Highlands of Scotland, as you follow a team of normal soldiers on a training mission working against the elite SAS (Special Air Service).

\n

Whilst out in the wilderness, the soldiers eventually get attacked and picked off one by one by a group of werewolves forcing the men to take refuge in a nearby house.

\n

I would like to see the mechanics of a game like ZombiU, where you are in continuous contact with one or all of your team members over the radio, and at the same trying to survive the onslaught.

\n

A Dog Soldiers game could implement the need to expose yourself to imminent danger by leaving your base/house, and collecting resources to survive. Using the resources you'd barricade yourselves in for a limited time, all the while trying to fight off the Werewolves that do somehow mysteriously get into the house.

\n

There are many films in the horror genre that could work well, and at the same time be more effective as a horror game -- if for no other reason that you can find yourself far more immersed in a game's atmosphere than you do a film.

\n

What horror films would you like to see adapted to a videogame? Let is know in the comments below.

Midnight Meat Train
\n

The Midnight Meat Train is film where a timid photographer takes it upon himself to investigate a serial killer known as "The Subway Butcher." As the photographer closes in on the killer he discovers an underground world of horrors.

\n

I think the game adaptation would work well using elements of Condemned, replacing the forensic tools with with a camera and by adding in some exploration and investigatory elements, similar to the Sherlock Holmes games.

\n

The closer you get to the killer, the gameplay could switch it's dynamics to a run and hide mechanic as seen in Outlastwhile trying to escape "The Subway Butcher."

Hellraiser
\n

The first two Hellraiser films are classics and two of the best horrors ever made in their own right. The plot for the game could be a direct follow up to the closing scenes in Hellraiser 2 -- ignoring the awful sequels thereafter.

\n

A game like The Evil Within would work well in this scenario, using its atmosphere and hiding mechanics.

\n

You could play the role of a detective or a private investigator, exploring the hospital where the events of Hellraiser 2 took place, eventually leading to clues about the Lament Configuration -- a puzzle box that acts as portal to a hell-like dimension.

\n

The protagonist could eventually cross over into the other dimension, and in trying to escape you encounter Pinhead and the other Cenobites with their unique looks and abilities, who are all trying to find ways to torture you for an eternity. A game in this universe could make for a pretty intense horror experience.

House Of 1000 Corpses
\n

A cult favorite among horror fans, House Of 1000 Corpses spawned a sequel The Devil's Rejects, which were both under the direction of Rob Zombie. The original film inspired a haunted house theme event at Universal Studios.

\n

So taking inspiration from the haunted house theme park event, I could see a horror VR game working. Imagine a cross between Resident Evil 7 and Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood.

\n

The game could force you to explore and investigate the home of the Firefly family, and throw in a few on-rails set pieces like Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood.

Cannibal Holocaust
\n

Cannibal Holocaust is a very gory and controversial film from 1980. It was the inspiration for found footage genre popularized in the late 90's such as The Blair Witch Project.

\n

Using the Found Footage style, the game could play from a first person perspective, in the role of a videographer, who follows the lead reporter and his team into the Amazonian jungle to investigate and document a cannibalistic tribe.

\n

The main theme of the film is the boundaries the crew crossed in order get the best and most graphically violent footage they could. This was achieved by betraying the tribes and committing other inhuman atrocities, just to get their shot.

\n

As the protagonist in a game adaptation you could be forced to make horrible decisions and face awful dilemmas - would you try and do the right thing for the natives? Or do you follow your boss's orders and cross the line of humanity for the sake of consumerism -- either one could potentially lead to disastrous results.

With Friday The 13th: The Game scheduled for an early 2017 release, it looks like it will capture the essence of what makes the film series so popular with the ability to play from the perspectives of either the victims, or stalking as Jason himself -- in multiplayer and single player modes.

\n

With Friday The 13th looking like it will nail the feeling of experiencing the films first hand, it got us thinking about what other horror games may work well in a modern videogame.

\n

There are a lot of horror films out there, so here is a list of films that would lend themselves especially well to a videogame format.

Resident Evil 7
\n

If you're looking for one of the best examples of effective virtual reality be it horror or another genre, Resident Evil 7 has you covered.

\n

Resident Evil 7 is a scary game even without the VR headset but the tension can reach almost suffocating levels through VR. There's a real deep sense of immersion and the realistic graphics only help make it feel all the more unnerving and uncomfortable.

\n

RE7 on the VR is the absolute benchmark for how survival horror should be done on the format and no doubt other developers will soon follow suit for future titles.

Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood
\n

Much like The Brookhaven Experiment, Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood is very much a lightgun game but this game puts you in the cart of a very literal haunted house of horrors carnival fair ground ride.

\n

The gameplay is on-rails as you shoot your way through a checklist of nightmarish creatures and experiences, and there is some really effective imagery and disturbing set pieces, but it's at its most effective when dealing with more mundane fears like arachnophobia -- if you have a genuine fear of spiders then you have been warned.

\n

There's some great use of the 3D audio and jump scares that feel very up close and personal, and although it's a launch title it's a game that shows the obvious future potential for the hardware and is one worth experiencing.

The Brookhaven Experiment
\n

The Brookhaven Experiment available originally on HTC Vive and now PS VR and can probably be considered a VR version of a lightgun game like House Of The Dead where you can aim and shoot with the PlayStation Move controllers.

\n

On its own may be considered a fairly generic experience, but obviously what makes this game so much more immersive is the headsets ability to truly make you feel surrounded.

\n

There's not a great deal of depth in this game but the tension is racked up a great deal by the virtual reality experience that helps take you out of your comfort zone as you never truly feel safe throughout.

Weeping Doll
\n

Weeping Doll puts you in the shoes of a maid who becomes embroiled in a dark family secret that unveils itself as you progress further into the game's story.

\n

The experience becomes quite tense and foreboding as you progress through the house with doors locking around you, or you spot a little girl spying on you from various corners of the house, disappearing as you get too close.

\n

The game isn't a difficult one, but it is very atmospheric and can be more than a little creepy --  it doesn't get much creepier than the weird looking dolls.

Here They Lie
\n

Despite already mentioning Here They Lie, it's definitely worth taking a closer look at this game with its bizarre yet effective imagery, clever level design and very effective scares. The game is probably more comparable to Silent Hill than Resident Evil, and makes good use of difficult moral choices that help lead to a satisfying ending.

\n

As already mentioned Here They Lie has been updated to be playable with and without the PS VR headset -- just like Resident Evil VII -- along with vast list of improvements that help make the experience better than ever.

\n

The low tech visuals have been greatly improved with the recent patch which completely reworked the overall texture streaming to help increase sharpness and performance overall. There's never been a better time to jump into the horrific world of Here They Lie.

Here They Lie is back in gamers sights again, as what began life as a PS VR only launch title, has received a substantial update, and is now playable now as a standard release for the PS4 Pro and PS4 featuring HDR and 4K support.

\n

The game is also being patched to improve the game's visual appeal on the headset too, with a higher quality render-mode for PS4 Pro on PS VR. Better shadows, post-processing effects, dynamic flashlight shadows, and ambient occlusion.

\n

Here They Lie has been made far more accessible for fans of the survival horror genre in taking the same accessible approach as Resident Evil 7, and hopefully a positive sign that other developers will patch in both standard and VR playstyles.

\n

The best way to experience this game is still through the VR headset, as the game was designed with virtual reality in mind. So while we await more horror VR titles to arrive on Sony's platform, I am about to list five survival horror games that you can play right now on the PS VR.

The State of Horror Games in 2016 https://www.gameskinny.com/g2g42/the-state-of-horror-games-in-2016 https://www.gameskinny.com/g2g42/the-state-of-horror-games-in-2016 Sat, 26 Nov 2016 08:05:02 -0500 Ty Arthur

Looking back at the last 11 months, it's apparent that 2016 wasn't nearly as much of a banner year for horror gaming as 2014 or 2015. There was no major survival horror reboot like The Evil Within, no genre breaking and awarding winning Alien: Isolation, no (new) Resident Evil.

Although many notable games did launch in the past few months, what was probably the most high-profile release of the year wasn't even technically a horror game, but rather an FPS.

Biggest Horror Releases Of 2016

Of course, I'm talking about the long-awaited Doom reboot, which was gory as all hell and featured truly demonic enemies. But the game perhaps doesn't entirely belong in the “horror” category, since it was more of an action shooter.

It certainly had the gore aspect in spades -- with dozens of executions!

In terms of big name games with AAA developer backing, there were only a handful other than Doom, and not all of those were even new games, like the Resident Evil 0 remaster landing on consoles and PCs back in January.

The other major release was the truncated three episode season of Telltale's The Walking Dead, which focused solely on Michonne and featured even less consequence than usual for Telltale Games.

The storytelling developer will have a chance to rectify that misstep with the impending third full season, which returns with series-staple Clementine, in December.

Whether unexpected 2D hits, asymmetrical titles letting you play the slasher or losing your sanity in a dungeon filled with tentacled horrors, smaller games hit the horror spot in 2016. Many of the highlights from horror gaming went under the radar, as indie games reigned supreme this year

Before we get into those worth-playing titles, though, there are a handful of overhyped and underdelivered games worth mentioning that marred 2016's release calendar.

Biggest Horror Disappointments of 2016

Thankfully, we didn't have the gut-blow of Silent Hills being canceled this year, but there were some flops to remind us of the existential pointlessness of existence.

Echoing that major catastrophe from 2015, the P.T. inspired Allison Road was canceled this past summer without explanation. The game's Facebook page has since been updated, indicating development has resumed, although it appears the game is going a different direction now, with more questions than answers as to what exactly happened.

Development hell and canceled games are just a fact of life, which is why some game companies have turned to early access to keep funding going while work progresses. Sadly, not all of these games deserve to hit feature-complete status.

Development hell and canceled games are just a fact of life, which is why some game companies have turned to early access to keep funding going while work progresses. Sadly, not all of these games deserve to hit feature-complete status.

While I'm personally a big proponent of crowd funding and early access, they don't always yield satisfying results, which is currently the case with Team Clockworks' At The Mountains Of Madness.

This clunky mess taken from the famous Lovecraft story of the same name is garnering entirely negative reviews in its current state and is need of a major overhaul.

For me, it's just another painful reminder that we'll never get that canceled Guillermo Del Toro / Tom Cruise movie adaptation that was promised...

Run - killer penguins!

Of those games that made it through development to release, not all of them were worth the wait. The biggest flop this year had to be NightCry, which was crowd-funded under the title Project Scissors and is a spiritual successor to the woefully underappreciated Clock Tower series.

NightCry definitely evoked the feel of clunky PS1 / PS2 era survival horror games, but not particularly in a good way. It had all the frustration of those games with very little of the payoff.

However, my fingers are crossed that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (a similar crowdfunded venture from the forces behind Castlevania) manages to work out a bit better when it lands in 2018.

Who thought running from monsters in high heels was a good call?

Wrapping up our look at the flops for the year, we'll end on the decidedly mediocre Phantaruk. While this indie first person horror game tried valiantly to evoke the feeling of the Frictional titles like SOMA or Amnesia, it just didn't manage to quite stack up with the atmosphere, story or scares. There was promise there though, so I'm hoping Polyslash goes on to refine the formula with a better game in the near future

The Indie Horror Triumphs of 2016

Now that we've covered what wasn't worth playing, it's time to dive into what knocked our socks off, and there were a ton of them from lesser known developers. Too many to even list them all here, in fact!

There's a ton of fun to be had either playing the unkillable slasher hunting down his victims or as the terrified co-eds trying desperately to survive and escape unscathed.

Dead By Daylight came to the asymmetrical slasher party early, pre-empting the dueling Friday the 13th and Last Year, both of which have failed to materialize so far and cover the same ground gameplay-wise.

They may be facing serious uphill battles against their predecessor, which has already landed on a winning formula.

There's a ton of fun to be had either playing the unkillable slasher hunting down his victims or as the terrified co-eds trying desperately to survive and escape unscathed.

Kill your friends one by one!

Available in early access last year, both Layers Of Fear and Darkest Dungeon finally arrived in their feature-complete forms in 2016, offering two very different but equally compelling descents into madness.

Fan feedback and sales have gone well enough that Layers Of Fear already saw the release of an expansion, putting you in the role of a family member returning to the painter's nightmare mansion, while Darkest Dungeon is betting on a vampiric DLC upgrade early next year.

For those who prefer something more fast paced and adrenaline-pumping, the early access Unloved was released in September, offering a modern re-imagining of the Doom 2 mod of the same name.  A bloody good time that's somehow even darker and more shrouded in shadow than Doom 3 was, Unloved is a game you want to pick up if you like the idea of fast paced shooters but prefer something with more horror oomph.

A few other indie titles are worth mentioning that horror fans should make a point of checking out that provide very different takes on the genre than you'd typically expect.

Although not without a few rough edges, Iron Fish ditches the typical gore and demons to offer a deep sea psychological thriller experience, while the mind bending Asemblance will utterly break you as you chase the truth down a rabbit hole of jumbled memories.

If you prefer an atmospheric experience along the lines of genre highlights like Amnesia, Layers Of Fear, and so on, then Lethe Episode 1 should be on your shortlist, showcasing that developers other than Frictional can handle that style with aplomb.

On the stylistic front, Camp Sunshine deserves to be tried by just about everyone for its absolute love of all things pixelated and slashery, transforming the typical summer camp machete-fest into a 16 bit world of horror.

Something tells me the camp's name is inaccurate...

VR Horror Gaming

The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive have come, and in their wake will be left a slew of first person horror games. VR is still just emerging though, with games of a very hit or miss variety.

Here They Lie is an early Playstation VR experience that's worth trying out, while Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood took the name and not much else from last year's much-hyped slasher game, throwing you into an on-rails VR arcade experience with a clown fetish.

Virtual reality is guaranteed to get much, much bigger in the next year or two across console, PC and mobile platforms, especially with games like The Walking Dead and Paranormal Activity getting big VR launches.

For now though, most will just have to watch Markiplier and PewDiePie pretend to be scared while testing out equipment that's too spendy for the adverage gamer. For those who do manage to shell out for a new computer and an Oculus Rift, please don't get eye herpes – because that's the real horror potential of VR.

I can't help but notice this is nothing like Until Dawn...

Unexpected 2016 Horror Developments

  • You might recall that last year the Five Nights At Freddy's series made our “most overyhyped” list, but this year's entry FNAF: Sister Location was an unexpected gem. It wasn't without some big flaws for sure – night 4 still has people in screaming rage fits – but its easily the best one to arrive so far and the most worth actually playing and not just watching playthroughs.

  • Causing a major kink in this year's horror gaming schedule, Outlast 2 getting pushed back from a Halloween release to Q1 2017 was among the biggest disappointments, but developer Red Barrels thankfully didn't leave us hanging.

  • Quitely releasing demo showing off the main direction of the story and allowing fans to play through an extremely tense corn field chase, Outlast 2 simultaneously was and wasn't the best thing to arrive on the horror landscape this year.

Calling it now - this will be the best found footage horror flick of 2017

Forecast For Horror In 2017

Next year is slated to be filled to the brim with top-tier releases both AAA and indie, assuming nothing get cancels or pushed back last minute as has been known to occur.

Giger is clearly a massive influence on many of the impending releases like Scorn and Inner Chains, and more than a few also delve into the depths of hell where horror belongs. Cosmic horror isn't getting left in the lurch either, as a proper Call Of Cthulhu follow-up is on the horizon.

A more complete look ahead and what's coming next year can be found right here.

So while 2016 was a "weird" year in the horror gaming landscape, with much-anticipated games getting shuffled around and new-comers blowing are socks right off, let us know what your favorite horror game of 2016 was, and what you are most looking forward to arriving soon!

Is VR a Reset of Gaming History? https://www.gameskinny.com/h7ahe/is-vr-a-reset-of-gaming-history https://www.gameskinny.com/h7ahe/is-vr-a-reset-of-gaming-history Wed, 26 Oct 2016 06:00:01 -0400 Unclepulky

For all the complaining that gamers seem to do about gimmicks getting in the way of quality games, they never seem to stop being won over by them during their early days. Motion controls? We originally loved them! All of Nintendo's silly peripherals? We loved them too! Virtual reality? Well, huh, I suppose no one really liked that back in the 90's. The hype surrounding new VR innovations is immense... but have we been down this road before?

The concept of virtual reality originated in the 1935 short story, "Pygmalion's Spectacles" by Stanley G. Weinbaum. This story contained a set of goggles which, when equipped, allowed people to experience fictional events.

Since then, different takes on virtual reality have appeared throughout an abundance of different books, movies, and essentially every other form of media. And with each appearance of it, our appetite just got more wet.

Come 1995, and Nintendo released their newest "portable" system, the Virtual Boy. Supposedly, this was the next big step for gaming, and we were going to be more immersed than ever.

This did not end up happening.

The Virtual Boy was a joke in 1995, and it's a joke now. With barely any games, hideous black and red visuals, a design which made it hard to use, and the ability to cause eye strain if used for more than about 20 minutes at a time, it's known in the gaming community as one of the worst systems of all time.

Now, while no one ended up liking the thing once it came out, people were super excited about it beforehand. And while comparing modern VR devices to the Virtual Boy is like comparing Theodore Roosevelt to Donald Trump, the possibility remains that we're setting ourselves up for another let down.

The Vive, the Oculus Rift, the Playstation VR, all incredibly well made devices. But soon, like with all gimmicks, the novelty will fade away, and the systems will need quality games to support them, especially given some of their radically high price tags. And so far, for the most part, it doesn't look like developers are focusing as much on the games, as much as what cool things they can do with their device.

And if we don't end up getting these games, the industry will have spent several years treading ground it already had two decades ago.

Regarding the games, there's also a chance that what ends up being done with them will be reminiscent of things we've seen before. While the Virtual Boy was a complete flop, with games that barely utilized VR, we've had quality VR games in arcades for many years. In fact, a lot of what modern VR devices offer are just perfected features of certain arcade games, mainly rail shooters.

So what could be done to keep things fresh? Well, a VR game set in a 2D environment would be something different. Maybe it could even be a little more cartoonish than other games on the platform. There's no law that says that all VR games have to contain realism, especially since at their core, video games are, and always will be, a form of escapism.

How crazy would Cuphead be in VR?

Are you a fan of any VR devices? Which one is your favorite? And do you think that VR is just a reset of gaming history? Let me know in the comments!

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood Is a Bloody Good Time https://www.gameskinny.com/tta8h/until-dawn-rush-of-blood-is-a-bloody-good-time https://www.gameskinny.com/tta8h/until-dawn-rush-of-blood-is-a-bloody-good-time Mon, 24 Oct 2016 06:24:52 -0400 Eric Adams

You have just received your PS VR headset and have run through the included demo disc and PS VR Worlds. You are looking for something that will be endless amounts of fun AND something to show off to your friends. If you really want to impress your friends with the fun factor, then Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is the game you are looking for.

Remember those old arcade games where you were on a linear course and shooting a gun at enemies? Well, those games influenced what Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is now. That’s right, you can now have one of those awesome on-rails arcade shooter games in your very own home. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is directly related to the brilliant PS4 exclusive Until Dawn. You are on a roller coaster the entire time, equipped with two guns and you have been tasked with shooting anything that threatens you.

The purpose of the game (other than getting the ever-living hell scared out of you) is to shoot enemies and obtain the highest score. The game includes seven horrifying levels that will test your willpower. The objective is to reach the end alive, a task easier said than done. It may be a frightening experience, but it is also frighteningly enjoyable and truly shows off the power of the PS VR headset.

I recently said that Batman: Arkham VR is the first must-own game for PS VR and that is true. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is the second must-own VR title and lucky you, it’s only $20. That’s right, the two must-own VR launch titles are only $20 a piece. Of course, the launch bundle itself is $500 but if you are willing to pay that then you know which games to go for first. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is as good as any launch title for PS VR and it shows that Virtual Reality shooters can have a pretty bright future.

It's a large list of games to enjoy, and is a promising sign to see from Sony. It'll offer tons of VR gameplay without having to spend more money right off the bat after digging into your pockets for the headset and required additional accessories. There will be tons of games supporting VR as we finish 2016 and even more to follow throughout next year, but this is all a great start during launch in October.

The Playroom VR

\n

Just as the current Playroom is free, Playroom VR will be as well, giving everyone with VR headsets something to enjoy immediately after purchase. While it does look a little cheesy, it also looks like a ton of fun when playing with a few friends with a handful of mini games.

\n

Hunt ghosts in Ghostbusters inspired fashion, play a Tom and Jerry cat-and-mouse mini game, Godzilla-like chasing and destruction, or a wild west shootout in a saloon. The full PlayStation game page for Playroom VR has a lot of pictures and added descriptions for you to learn more about.

Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives

\n

If you think coming home from your job to play a job simulator sounds ridiculously lame and miserable, you'll think twice when you see the gameplay of this VR title. While I'm not entirely sure about how the game will implement any kind of story or objectives, the complete randomness of interacting with things at your desk looks to be pretty hilarious and fun, even if just for a little while.

\n

Nothing is off limits with this game, and it could prove to be a good anger management simulator. Throw that cup of hot coffee over the cubical in the video game and still keep your day job in the real world. There's a few different 'jobs' to do, allowing for diverse gameplay and fun. Don't forget to check out the full PlayStation game page for more of these details.

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

\n

If you've already played Until Dawn, you're well aware that the foundations of this young franchise are decision-making and tons of jump-scares. Rush of Blood is focusing on the same aspects from before, but changing up the gameplay this time around.

\n

It plays out as a rail shooter in a nightmare rollercoaster. Dual-wield 6 different types of weapons and progress through several different levels while also competing for global leaderboard positions. The full PlayStation game page will go into slightly more detail, but also provides a few extra images.

Battlezone

\n

Reviving the classic tank warfare experience, the updated version of the VR franchise Battlezone brings innovation and combat to life like never before. Developed by Rebellion, you'll be able to wage heavy metal ground war in multiplayer as well as single player campaign (co-op optional). It takes place in a retro-futuristic world and yields great attention to detail and stunning graphics. You can check out its official PlayStation game page for more images and details.

EVE: Valkyrie

\n

The backstory of the game is raising debate in a great story. A man known as Fatal is stealing the consciousness of fallen pilots to work for him by means of illegal technology, and placing them into clones. The game is a space-based combat shooter with a focus on multiplayer action, but includes a more than interesting looking single player campaign.

\n

\n

The official PlayStation game page has a lot of interesting information about the game, including deeper story details, as well as this overview description:

\n
\n

"Live out the fantasy and thrill of being an elite spaceship pilot in the sprawling sci-fi universe of EVE.

\n

Join the Valkyrie, an outlaw band of galactic pirates, and take up arms to claim what's yours. Trade cannon fire for cash as you chase wealth and notoriety on the edge of space.

World War Toons

\n

If Battlefield 1 was an animated cartoon game for kids (and VR supported) it would look exactly like this. A fun light-hearted take on historic warfare, but one that I'm sure will still allow for great competition. You change classes with pick-ups located around the map, and there's even tanks that players can become.

\n

The interesting part is how those two ideas mesh together. Which class of infantry you are playing as when you become the tank will determine which specialty of tank you'll play as. The game will also be playable without the VR headset, extending the potential player base for it right out the gate. Don't forget to check out the full PlayStation game page for more info.

PGW: Games coming to PlayStation VR https://www.gameskinny.com/h4x23/pgw-games-coming-to-playstation-vr https://www.gameskinny.com/h4x23/pgw-games-coming-to-playstation-vr Wed, 28 Oct 2015 20:11:19 -0400 Joe DeClara

It's Paris Games Week, and Sony has already made a slew of announcements pertaining to PlayStation VR. With the head-mounted display slated for a release in the first half of 2016, Sony has been slowly revealing games coming to PlayStation VR at various expos and conferences. Here are the games we know will be coming to PlayStation VR next year and soon after.

Gran Turismo Sport

While discussing plans for the long-awaited PS4 GT title, creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced that developer Polyphony is working on bringing Gran Turismo Sport to PlayStation VR. A release window has yet to be revealed for Gran Turismo Sport, but a beta is planned for early 2016.

Robinson: The Journey

The name of the game: don't get squashed. At least, that's what we were told in the concept trailer for Robinson: The Journey. Crytek's upcoming VR game seems to take place in prehistoric times, wherein the player is guided by a floating AI through a herd of dinosaurs. Yeah--dinosaurs. Not much else is known about this game, except that it will be premiering PlayStation VR.

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

Unlike Supermassive's sleeper-hit title released earlier this year, Rush of Blood is a first-person horror game which will take players through a haunted roller coaster ride that's set in the Until Dawn universe. New shooting mechanics will be implemented into the experience, but other mechanics more familiar to the franchise, like player choice, will also be featured. Having just been unveiled at PlayStation's Paris Games Week press conference, Rush of Blood has yet to be given a release window.

Battle Zone

During the press conference last night, a first-person tank battler was announced. The trailer shows off explosive gameplay with a stylish neon art style. Battle Zone will be coming first to PlayStation VR.

Tekken 7

After unveiling the next installment in the fighting game franchise, President and CEO of SCEE Jim Ryan announced that Tekken 7 will be coming to PlayStation VR. How virtual reality will be implemented in the third person fighting game is unknown.

RIGS: Mechanized Combat League

Announced back at E3 2015, RIGS is a multiplayer FPS stylized as a NASCAR-esque sporting competition. Players pilot virtual mech suits and enter in the arena to do battle and score goals. The game is being developed by first-party studio Guerrilla Games, and is projected to be an exclusive launch title for PlayStation VR.

What do you think of PlayStation VR's lineup so far? Are these the experiences you are looking for in the virtual reality space? Sound off in the comments below!
