Fallout 76: Where To Find Pemmican

Can't find pemmican for the Backpacker possum badge? By completing the right repeatable quest, you can get three pieces in no time!

With the Wild Appalachia update anyone can go spend the weekend camping out in the wilderness… I mean sure, it happens to be an irradiated wilderness filled to the brim with things and people who want to kill you, but its still camping!

As part of that update you may have been surprised to see pemmican — a staple of jerky vendors and outdoors enthusiasts everywhere — making an appearance in Fallout 76!

Other than being quite tasty, you’re going to need to collect at least three pieces of pemmican if you plan on getting a badge on your quest to graduate from tadpole to possum scout.

You only need to earn three badges to complete the quest, and this one is fairly easy

In addition to building a campfire, boiling water, grilling hot dogs, and crafting s’mores, three pieces of pemmican are needed for the Backpacker Possum badge. The trouble is they aren’t just lying around anywhere and won’t be found as random loot in containers.

With the new vending machine system, its always possible another player will put some of their excess pemmican out for sale, but don’t expect it to come cheap or be readily available.

The more reliable way is to farm repeatable quests that have a chance to drop Pemmican as a reward. In particular, you want to complete the repeatable quest Operation Tidy which is found at the Kiddie Corner Cabins area.

To farm this repeatable quest, first you need to start The Order Of The Tadpole quest line by finding a flyer at a train station. If you haven’t done that yet, check out our full guide to the different parts of this Wild Appalachia quest over here.

With that out of the way, talk to Pioneer Scout Leader Pompy at the Kiddie Corner Cabins to start the Operation Tiday repeatable quest.

After its initiated, wander around the area and clean up the toxic mutagenic waste deposits found on the ground. Once you’ve got enough collected, go drop the waste deposits off at the blue containment bucket found near Scout Leader Pompy.

Return to the Scout Leader for your reward, which will include pemmican. Unfortunately it doesn’t net you all three pieces at once, so you’ll need to do this multiple times to complete this part of the Backpacker badge.

How to Get Hot Dogs and S’mores

Haven’t found the hot dogs and s’mores yet either? Those are fairly easy:

  • Hot dogs are found in Camden Park by talking to the robot Zeke, who puts you on a quest for a hot dog eating contest. Nearby you can find the Mr. Handy robot Zoe who will have you eat as many hot dogs as possible. If you already completed this quest, hot dogs randomly spawn on grills found around the wasteland.
  • For s’mores, you need to do the Campfire Tales event, which only pops up at night. The s’mores recipe is granted at the end of the event, which requires bone, brahmin milk, razorgrain flour, spices, sugar, syrup, and wood to craft.

You know, as a 3D game model it doesn’t actually look all that appetizing…

Since you may end up with more than you need, you might be wondering –what else can you do with pemmican? Well obviously you can eat it to reduce hunger and gain the following effects:

  • +3 END
  • +45 HP
  • +0.7 Rads

Other than that, pop any leftover pemmican (or s’mores and hot dogs) in your vending machine to help out other players having trouble with this badge!
