What I Wish We Would’ve Seen at E3 2014

Some things that I wish we could've seen at this year's E3 conferences.

This year’s E3 Conference in Los Angeles I must say was lacking. Now don’t get wrong–Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Nintendo had solid conferences but nothing that blew us away or had us foaming at the mouth. I was impressed with Microsoft’s lack of mentioning the Kinect at any point. It was a very smart move after last year’s debacle that put them in hot water amongst players.

The EA and Sony conferences were quite boring. Nothing was shown that wasn’t already seen prior. Plus the lack of seeing anything significant was enough to piss anyone off. Let’s take Mass Effect for instance, it was a blip on the radar. Are you serious? So many of us drool in anticipation for E3 and that’s what we get?

What happened to The Last Guardian? How about Gears of War or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel? They weren’t even shown! Mirror’s Edge was a disappointment as well. I didn’t tune in to see E3 for Developer Diaries, did you?

I expected to see a lot more. I wanted more exclusives, real-time gameplay, new IPs–I expected more, I expected to be dazzled.

Even with the yawns we did get some great things to see. I’m excited about the new Master Chief Collection coming to Xbox One in November. Assassin’s Creed Unity shared 4-player experience looks amazing, not to mention from the colorful trailer from Far Cry 4, the new character villain looks like he’ll be interesting. Valiant Hearts: The Great War made us teary-eyed with their trailer. The Crew, Tom Clancy’s The Division, along with Rainbow Six Siege look pretty sick.

Sony did announce a new Ratchet and Clank movie coming to theaters along with a PS4 remake. What did look quite entertaining and that will sell well was LittleBigPlanet 3. Despite the presenters having a few hiccups in their gameplay demonstration, it does look like fun for fans of Sackboy who’ll be joined with some new friends.

Nintendo’s Yoshi’s Wooly World looks absolutely adorable and makes me want to snuggle up with a knitted Yoshi. Super Smash Bros. looks like it’s going to be lots of fun with the Amiibo feature. They also did announce a new first-party shooter called Splatoon which actually looks like it’ll be fun. Yes, we heard about Zelda and even a Bayonetta pack, among others. It’s been quite a long time since I could honestly say I have high hopes for Nintendo due to their wonderful presentation. Hands down, it was also the most entertaining.

Like I said yes E3 had some good things but overall they left us unsatisfied. I usually finish watching E3 in utter excitement that I can’t sit still for having my mind blown but that didn’t happen, not once. Was my interest piqued? Yes of course with some things but I wasn’t blown away.

What are your thoughts on the E3 conferences? Did you like what you saw or were you left wanting? Let us know in the comments.
