Destiny has plenty of items and chests to get, but each planet has a set number of Golden Chests. You usually get better items from these. Most are random, but some chests give set items. These chests give a variety of items, I even got a vehicle from one of the Earth chests.
Looking for these chests on your own can take a while and your time is precious, right? Thought so! Don’t worry, I’ll tell you where each one is to save you the hassle. I even show the path to chests if you’re getting them during the Earth Patrol mission. Just watch the header video above.

Golden Chest Locations
I’ll explain the locations and how to get there below. If you want a more visual guide, please watch the header video as I show the path to the first 4 chests. The last chest is only available during the Earth Strike mission.
First Chest
Location: Dock 13 – Available in Restoration story mission or Earth Patrol.
- Starting from the Steppes, where you begin the level, go east towards the steps leading up to an open-air room. This is outside Dock 13.
- Go into the building, then to the second room. The chest is on a table to your left.
Second Chest
Location: Path to Forgotten Shore – Available in The Warmind story mission or Earth Patrol.
- Take the canyon path to the Forgotten Shore from the Mothyards.
- Follow the path around until you’re facing the cliffs and can see a single trickle of water coming down.
- Go towards this water to notice a cave. Jump into it and head around the corner to the left to find the chest.
Third Chest
Location: Forgotten Shore – Available in The Warmind story mission or Earth Patrol.
- As soon as you enter the Forgotten Shore, after leaving the canyon, head left.
- Take the path on the water and huge the cliff because you can’t go to deep water.
- Follow it until you see the golden chest on the rocks. This is below the path to the Terrestrial Complex, where you fight the last group of enemies during The Warmind mission.
Fourth Chest
Location: Lunar Complex – Available in The Dark Within story mission or Earth Patrol.
This chest is technically the second chest available if you get them during the story missions.
- After killing the Hive Wizard in the Dark Within mission, jump on top of small room to left. You have to do it before the mission end timer runs out.
- Head to the back corner and you’ll see the chest.
- You can still get it later, just head back to the same spot you killed the Wizard.
Fifth Chest
Location: The Devil’s Lair (Strike mission)
The final chest is only available during the strike mission on Earth.
- Get to the final boss fight, Sepiks Prime.
- As you enter the room, jump down to the lower level and go left under the platform to find the chest.
- Be careful if you do it during the fight and be quick if you wait until the fight is over.
