A Plague Tale: Innocence follows the story of Amicia as she cares for her younger brother Hugo in a war-torn France filled with disease and active battle sites. With a gritty storyline revolving around the siblings, it is easy to see why A Plague Tale: Innocence is getting rave reviews.

Set at the beginning of the Hundred Years' War, players take the role of Amicia de Rune, the daughter of a retired French knight. In the opening the de Rune home is attacked by the Inquisition forcing Amicia to flee with her younger brother Hugo.

Straddled with caring for her sheltered brother, Amicia uses her wits to survive the chaos. Sneaking past religious fanatics, avoiding hordes of diseased rats, and fending off insanity give the game a twisted, dark vibe.

For those that want to cosplay the battle-worn Amicia, the game's developer, Asobo Studio, has released a cosplay guide.

The 12-page PDF is available here.

What often separates a good costume from a fantastic one are the small details, which can take hours of research to get right. Sometimes a reference point is not available, but breaking down each piece and stylistic evolution can be exceedingly helpful. This cosplay guide highlights in a single place the smallest details many endlessly search for.

That's all for now!

\n

Did you imagine Halloween to be one of the most romantic seasons of the year? If the answer was no, you weren't thinking deep enough - it's getting cold out there, and even full-body cat suits get cold when you're walking around in them alone!

Another DC pair that will last the ages. Batwoman and Catwoman don't always see eye to eye regarding pesky matters like legalities and their choices in friends (who may or may not spend an inordinate amount of time locked up in Arkham Asylum) their romance is both explosive and exciting.

\n

Whether you choose to go the iconic Batman Returns route of dressing up as Bats and Selena Kyle like @harley_sinn_87 & @kevindcosplay above, or prefer one of their countless other movie/comic book/video game/cartoon counterparts, I guarantee you will be instantly recognizable by anyone you meet on the street.

\n

It's also super easy to dress these two up and down depending on your time and budget constraints too!

Okay, so maybe this particular couple doesn't actually exist outside of our collective imaginations, but wasn't it just made to be?

\n

Frozen blew everyone's collective minds when it came out, and the carpool karaoke of "Let it Go" may have died down (for now, wait a few months), but it's simmering just under the surface. And with no canon love interest for Queen Elsa to be found, the internet went ahead and did it for her.

\n

Enter Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians, the personification of ice and snow, stuck forever in the body of a 17 year old. While this is a couple that will never happen for real, it won't stop the rest of us from dreaming!

\n

For those in the know, make this romance a reality with costumes that are either super simple to put together (Jack's) or super easy to find on the market (Elsa's).

So the Overwatch community has a love/hate relationship with shipping of any kind but the dissenters are usually outnumbered by the vastly more talented people who dress up, take photos, and draw fanart, so it's still pretty easy to enjoy what you want.

\n

This particular game with its attempts at rich back story (that is mostly forgotten once you have anything to do with actually playing it) doesn't really have any canon pairings. You could frankly throw a few darts at the hero select screen and come up with a pairing that will have as much canonical backing as any other... not that the internet hasn't tried.

\n

Of course, this makes the game particularly conducive to large group cosplays, or even smaller threes or twos. Soldier 76 and Mercy as seen above are a popular pair, first because of character, but also because they are two of the most commonly picked characters in the game. You can also find the officially licensed costumes and props available through Spirit Halloween (along with Reaper and D.Va) if you're looking for something quick, easy, but undeniably pricey.

Choice one if you're on the hunt for something to dress up in with a pal and no romantic feelings attached -- or at least we hope not, since Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are brother and sister.

\n

(Yes, there have been some occasional references in canon that might suggest a little too much co-dependency between the two of 'em, but we're not going to get into that squinchy kind of debate right now, okay?)

\n

While I'm not going to spoil the Avengers movies for any poor soul that still hasn't seen them, suffice to say that Scarlet Witch is pretty much a badass. Always. And you are hard-pressed not to love her.

\n

Quicksilver is a little harder to appreciate due to his, sigh, lack of screen time, but I assure you that having a complete set of Maximoff siblings is a heck of a way to make an entrance to any party.

If you're looking to show off with a dash of real romance, how better than with Final Fantasy X's tragically romantic lead pair, Summoner Yuna and her guardian Tidus?

\n

While Tidus might be bit of a blonde and a bonehead to boot, there's nothing he won't do to make sure that Yuna achieves everything that she's determined to. That forced laughter on the way to the Mi'hen Highroad will ring in your ears forever with cringe and second-hand embarrassment, but you have to admit that the scene above was positively beautiful and the stuff of daydreams.

\n

A little dated, these costumes might be a little more difficult to find on short notice, so you may have to resort to needle and thread if you really want to do these lovebirds justice!

Despite being one of comic bookdom's biggest power couples on the planet, DC's Joker and Harley Quinn are also crazy, maniacal, and if you really thought too hard about their power dynamic, probably not nearly as romantic as die-hard fans think they are.

\n

And yet you can't help it. You love them. Admit it. You do.

\n

Whether it's in the traditional harlequin suit and true-white clown skin or Margot Robbie's killer turn as Daddy's Lil' Monster in Suicide Squad and Jared Leto's shiny teeth, there's no denying that you knew these two were showing up on this list, didn't you?

\n

The Suicide Squad Harley may have been last Halloween's most popular costume, but these two will always, always be a staple at any con, any time of the year, forever and ever.. thanks in large part to huge cosplayers like the ones shown above, Anthony Misiano and Alyssa King (aka Harley's Joker and Joker's Harley, respectively). If the names didn't give it away, they are best known for their ultra-realistic Joker/Harley shoots, and their prolific con-going adventures.

Is it love, is it friend-zoned affection, or wistful thinking? The fandom is split on just how romantic the Link and Zelda thirds of the Triforce really are.

\n

Regardless of which side of the fence that you land, you're hard-pressed to find two more recognizably nerdy costumes than the Hero of Time and "what would it be like if Zelda was a girl?"

\n

Perfect for whether you want to insist you're "just friends" or leaving things ambiguous, there have also been dozens of different iterations of the Link and Zelda costumes over the years, so piecing one together could be super easy or super detailed depending on skill, cost, and time considerations.

(If you want to get to the real superhero duo action, skip to about 1:15 above.)

\n

Somehow Spider-Man is in Los Angeles. He bumps into Deadpool. On a rooftop. Chemistry ignites. The Merc With the Mouth makes a move. The fight, the struggle, the passion. The screen fades to black.

\n

--Fine, well then how were you going to retell it?

\n

By now it's pretty canon that Deadpool would love to get in on some of that sleek, Spidey action, but it's also pretty canon that our favorite web-slinger just ain't about that life. Ah, doomed romance. Is there anything more heart-wrenching to be imitated and captured IRL?

\n

Because, you see, as temperatures begin dropping and the leaves start falling, a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of cosplaying with his lady love.

\n

Or something like that.

\n

The above may or may not be a shameless bastardization of Tennyson, but that doesn't change the fact that with the cooling weather, cuffing season opens.

\n

So whether you want to celebrate your newly minted love affair by showing up hand in claw at the biggest (nerdiest?) Halloween bash of the month, or whether or not you and your best bro are looking to steal the show in your sexy zentai suits and choreographed moves (and catch the eye of the hottest Harley in the crowd), now is the perfect time to get planning.

\n

Here are some of the best, the wackiest, and the funnest cosplay ideas for couples on the internet.

All right, you are probably not going to be pulling together an Ultron costume just in time for the big Halloween bash in a couple weeks. You are probably also not going to confuse Ultron for a superhero, not even a dance-between-the-lines kind of superhero/villain like Catwoman.

\n

But seriously. who doesn't dream of showing up in a shiny, glowing, show-stealing getup like this? These in particular are by Village’s Hope who partnered with Disney to amp up the crowds at the Thailand premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron

Even cooler is the fact that all that shiny chrome isn't actually shiny chrome at all, but a mix of EVA foam, PVC leather, and LEDs. Wow!

Wakanda forever! You didn't think we'd make it through a superhero cosplay post without a little Black Panther thrown in for style, right?

\n

While there may be very little point by now (who still hasn't watched this movie??) to hold back the spoilers of Infinity War, suffice to say that CutiePieSensei had some pretty good reasons for feeling like baby sister Shuri needed to step up into her big brother's Black Panther shoes.

\n

This isn't exactly a super canon costume that she's donned since she pulled design inspiration from both the comic books and the movie, but between the wicked styling and the fact that it lights up(!!), it is too rad not to place on this list.

\n

You should also take a look at some of her other work, including this WIP Starfire (take notes, Titans) and super-stylin' Domino. Super worth.

Can I really think of any one Deadpool cosplayer? (Well, yes, actually, but as much as I love D Piddy, I can't resist the lure of a million convention Deadpools all conga line dancing around the showroom floor.)

\n

Is there anything quite like a Deadpool cosplay? It is such a wacky, oddball, utterly freeing experience where you can pretty much do whatever weirdo thought comes into your brain and somehow it translates into something 300x funnier.

\n

We're keeping it fairly easy to glam up like this in time for Halloween - with the super success of Deadpool and Deadpool 2, costume stores are stocked for everyone who comes in wanting to play the Merc With the Mouth. Why not join the dance party?

On the topic of nostalgia, the recent wave of Aquaman hype had me thinking back to Adella's fantastically shot series of photos for her Mera costume that she released last year.

\n

It stands out from the pack because of her choice in location and also because her son was just about the right age for Aquababy… and looked so stinking cute dressed up with her! (Check out the link at the bottom to check out the full gallery.)

\n

Adella has been in the cosplay scene for years and is most well-known for how good she looks when dressed up as Aeris/Aerith Gainsborough from FFVII and Malon from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

If you're thinking of filling in these slick, shiny green shoes, you'll probably be able to put together all the pieces for a decent Halloween costume from easy places like Amazo

I don't know what it is about Australian cosplayers this round, but here we're clocking at 3 out of 3! Kyle Parmley's Captain America is somewhat dated at this point (3 calendar years which approximately equals 10 in internet years) but with the end of the Chris Evans era fast approaching, a little nostalgia is good for the soul.

\n

An actor and performer, Kyle Parmley has got a ton of other priorities before cosplay so he hasn't popped off as many mind-blowing superhero shoots over the years as some of the others on this list, but that hasn't stopped him from taking a turn as both Superman and Batman ("MARTHA!") as well.

\n

If you're thinking of pulling together a Cap costume in time for Halloween, chances are you'll find all the pieces you'll need at your local costume shop or Hot Topic long before you have to buckle down and hunt something down online.

Pint-sized Mary Jane is suited up and ready to kick some serious Green Goblin butt. A dancer and prolific cosplayer (especially for her age!), Nevada Newman's an official model for cosplay store Hero's Time, and hails from Australia.

\n

When she's not playing Spidey's redheaded bombshell, she's also sitting through the tedious body paint process for her amazing Starfire from Teen Titans, smacking mallets around as Harley Quinn, and absolutely slaying as Hela from Thor: Ragnarok. It's a tough schedule, but evidently Nevada is in it to win it. Who says kids can't cosplay as well as the best of 'em?

\n

If you're looking for this exact costume, you can find it on the Hero's Time website, or you can check around for a solid Spidey costume as well. Those are certainly not hard to find either!

Okay, so villain, superhero.. Catwoman straddles that line most of the time. I think that counts.

\n

If you think there's something familiar about this face but can't quite put your finger on it, it's probably because you just saw her in the last slide as well as a fantastic genderbent Aquaman. If you didn't even notice, I think that stands as testament to how good she is at her work!

\n

A Melbourne native, Yeliz (or Just Yeliz on Facebook and Instagram) frequents a number of different Aussie cons, and has pulled off a ton of different costumes (check out her Kassandra from Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example, she's an official cosplayer for Ubisoft Australia).

\n

I'll also level with you here. I don't know what iteration of Catwoman this costume comes from. This cowl is reminiscent of the worst-fated Catwoman to date (poor, poor Razzie-winning Halle Berry) but to be honest, it was the best part of that ripped-up leather mess of a costume. The rest of it definitely looks a lot more contemporary. Is it from something? Was it pulled together? I don't know, and I must know!

\n

This particular version might not be the easiest to put together in time for Halloween, but that won't stop you from whipping together something similar from a number of different Catwoman eras. She has been a popular costume for many years, and for good reason!

New York Comic Con has just finished wrapping up, and so has the summer blockbuster season. It's been a smash hit for the superhero genre.. more on the Marvel side of the fence than DC with runaway winners like Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, and some smaller but very profitable successes in movies like Deadpool 2 and the recent release of Venom.

\n

DC has been keeping its cards a little closer to its chest with only a few animated releases scattered throughout the year, pushing only to make upcoming Aquaman the big DC hype machine of the year. Of course, we can still hope that the DC-led Titans (the Teen Titans live action show that garnered so much fan rage over the actress choice and costume styling for Starfire when behind the scenes photos leaked earlier this year) will pleasantly surprise us.

\n

But with the cooler weather and the fall fever starting to creep up on us, our thoughts to more important questions... what are we going to wear on Halloween? (Totally an adult question.)

\n

Take a look at some of our suggestions, and some of the best versions of these costumes that we've seen!

Costume: Rex
\n

It’s not quite as massive as the classic inflatable T-Rex costume, but it is still a fun one to wear.

\n

The most complex part of this costume is the T-Rex mascot head and backpack, but the rest of this classic skin is simply an orange scarfgreen onesie (or pants and T-shirt), and green gloves.

\n

Spirit Halloween has a full costume available for purchase at $49.99, but if you would prefer to purchase separate pieces for a slightly better price, you can find a dinosaur mask on Amazon, as well as the items listed above.

Costume: Dark Voyager

\n

Dark Voyager has always been a favorite skin for Fortnite players, but it's also a favorite costume choice for cosplayers and Halloween shoppers. Spirit of Halloween has two costumes for the dark masked figure. The cheapest, however, is a $49.99 suit. Sizes range from adult to kids.

\n

Helmets will cost extra, but if you’re a dedicated fan, it may be worth the extra money.

\n

If you don’t want to spend more than you have to, try checking your garage for old motorcycle helmets or ask a friend. Once you have your hands on one you can get crafty with the color highlights by spray painting the lines.

\n

You can also purchase black jumpsuits (or onesie) on Amazon and add neon fabric paint to finish the designs.

\n

Whether you choose to purchase the finished suit or craft your own is up to your budget and time.

Costume(s): Bunny Brawler and Rabbit Raider

\n

If you want to be cute and cozy in your Fortnite Halloween costume, look no further than this pair of bunnies for inspiration. Though it could be seen as a simple bunny costume, adding the unsettling buckteeth and whiskers to a hockey mask will get you into the fall feeling rather than the spring spirit.

All you will need is a bunny onesie, bunny slippers, an optional hockey mask, and some paint for the whisker nose. If you want to spend a little extra to bring the Fortnite skin to life, you can use an Easter egg style backpack for your egg grenades.

Costume: Love Ranger

\n

Are you a hopeless romantic? If so, Fortnite's Love Ranger skin is the perfect choice for your costume.

\n

However: Do be wary of this one if you have sensitive skin because it’s going to require a full coat of body paint over your face, arms, and torso. Get ready to stretch to reach all those hard to reach spots on your back.

\n

Using grey hairspray and body paint, you can cover yourself to imitate the stone figure.

\n

You can also use any set of grey wings to strap onto your back. The only other clothes you need are pink sweatpants and grey gloves. If you aren’t spooked by putting contacts in your eye, you can also find white color contacts to match the Love Ranger’s.

Costume: Bush Disguise

\n

There are a lot of popular Fortnite skins you could model your costume after, but one really fun idea is to go as a player in a bush disguise. Not only is it easy to pull off, but this clever costume will give your friends a good laugh as you sneak around this Halloween.

\n

Fake foliage can be purchased on Amazon for $14.48, and once superglued to an old set of clothes, you can camouflage yourself to fool your foes and perhaps jump scare a few strangers.

\n

To get the look above, you can also buy a pair of cheap brown shoes, and cut up some cardboard to tape to your jeans as shin guards.

\n\n

You probably already have a pair of old jeans and you can get four boxes from the USPS for absolutely free right here

Costume: Leviathan

\n

Though this one will be a little tricky and time consuming, the outcome will be an awesome Leviathan skin costume -- which will totally be worth it.

\n

The key components to this one will be a breathable clear helmet ($18.90) and a fish mask ($6.00). But before you put on the clear helmet, make sure it's safe and breathable.

\n

To recreate the fish himself, you can either get creative with green and pink face paint as well as color hairspray or you can purchase cheap printable fish masks from Etsy.

\n

The main hiccup you might run into is with the suit. Despite there being few suits available that are identical to Leviathan’s, you can pull it off with a grey/white onesie or jumpsuit and tan gloves from Amazon.

Costume: Skull Trooper

\n

You can’t go wrong with a skeleton costume on Halloween, but make yours stand out by getting combat ready. Skull Trooper is the perfect Fortnite skin for All Hallow's Eve, and it can even be a lot of fun to make.

\n

This look can be created one of two ways. You can either purchase clothing that already has skeleton outlines printed on them, or you can paint your own.

\n

Using black and white face paint, create an eerie skull and bones along your arms. Next, outline a rib cage and spine on a sleeveless shirt with fabric paint and continue painting the pants legs for a complete skeleton costume.

\n

Be sure to dig out a pair of black combat boots from your closet, and don’t forget to buy a white ski mask and black scarf to mirror this skin.

Costume: Raptor

\n

Not only is this Raptor one of our favorite Fortnite cosplays, it's also one of the easier DIY Fortnite costumes. The best part is that you can get creative with items you might already have lying around the house.

\n

You will need brown combat boots, a shovel, cargo pants, and knee guards. If you don’t have a brown leather jacket, you can find a pleather pilot Jacket for around $40 on Amazon, along with a cheap yellow ski mask for $6.

\n

Finish it off with a pair of yellow gloves and a headset, and you’re good to go. This will be a warm costume so save all those layers for a cold Halloween night.

Costume: Teknique and Abstrakt

\n

If you’re the crafty type, you’ll have fun designing bright splatter for the skin duo, Teknique and Abstrakt. But don’t worry; It won’t require too much money or time since the core components are simply a grey jacket and purple sweatpants.

\n

Surprisingly, gas masks will only cost between $15-$20 and teal hats are as low as $2.00 online. Though the Abstrakt skin has an additional blue vest, the two will pretty much require the same amount of effort and materials.

Costume: Kitsune-Drift

\n

One of the more recent Fortnite skins to release also happens to be one of the most affordable to buy (or even make). With a red vest jacket, a fox mask, and some dark clothing, you can effortlessly pull off this Kitsune Drift Costume for pretty cheap.

\n

Though you could spend extra time crafting a mask such as cosplayer Gibson -- or shelling out some extra money for hand-made, 3D-printed masks -- you can also find masks from as low as $9.50 on Amazon.

\n

Pair that with fingerless gloves, a long-sleeved dark shirt, and a red jacket to match the skin and you're all set. Essentially, this costume would be perfect for anyone on a tight budget and in need of a unique, yet fairly easy-to-make costume.

This year's Dragon Con brought talented artists, fans, and cosplayers together to celebrate multiple facets of nerd culture including film, literature, comics, TV series, video games, and more.

\n

We're all sad to see the convention come to a close but are excited for what the next year will bring. We'll be anticipating more amazing costumes from various player based communities in the meantime.

This towering Anthem cosplay is one of the first of its kind and definitely one of the most impressive costumes at Dragon Con 2018.

\n

Cosplayer Elliot, from the couple cosplay group, Irradiant Cosplay, attracted tons of attention with a massive bright yellow Javeline suit from the upcoming EA and Bioware game, Anthem. Bioware even showed their appreciation of the costume by reposting the images on their Instagram. The third person shooter RPG is set to come out in February 2019, but this costume made players even more excited for its release.

Irradiant's carefully crafted gear and elaborate suit make the it one of our favorite video game cosplays. We can't wait to see more from this cosplaying duo.

One of the most challenging cosplays to pull off from Overwatch is Bastion, but this cosplayer took on the challenge. He handmade his massive omnic suit with Ganymede, Bastion's bird companion, on his shoulder. The cosplay is equipped with an internal cooling system and working LED's, which shift between colors to express his mood. His back carries Bastion's large turret and his right arm is also a gun. We were shocked when this costume didn't win at the video game cosplay competition, but it definitely was a crowd-pleaser.

Another fitting display for the Georgia Aquarium were these little sisters and big sister Bioshock cosplays. The cosplayers accurately depict the eerie, atom collecting, little sisters of the undersea world of Rapture. Big Sister, the protector of the little sisters, is also quite detailed with needles at her arms and a deep diving helmet. The three garnered quite the applause at the aquarium's costume contest, and it was well deserved.

The con was filled with some amazing sets of armor, including this Dark Souls Silver Knight costume. Kyle, the designer and cosplayer, crafted this piece over multiple months of rigorous work. It's unsurprising that we found this cosplayer roaming the isles of classic arcade games, considering the run and gun arcade gameplay of Cuphead.

\n

Fans will immediately remember the dreaded King of Dice as a formidable opponent when seeing this con-goer and have flashbacks to rage inducing deaths at his hands.

\n

The cosplayer recreated the the antagonist's 30's cartoon style look with white gloves, large eyes, and a cartoony grin. He even emulated his gestures and movements from the game as he strolled through the arcade. We're just happy he's posing for photos instead of shooting a deck of cards at us.

Crowds erupted in cheers for this Pac-Man costume at the video game costume contest, despite the fact that he was in the audience as a viewer rather than a contestant. The judges questioned why he would not enter the competition himself with such an elaborate and entertaining cosplay. He simply responded with a built-in Pac-Man game over sound effect, creative miming, and the flashing LED glowing ghost on his chest. Instead of joining the stage, he enjoyed the show from the seats, but he received just as many photo op request as the contestants after the show.

Warframe has a massive following of players, one of which could be spotted a mile away at Dragon Con. This colossal "Golden Warrior" could be seen above the crowds with his hefty golden armor and red accents. It's surprising that the cosplayer could even move underneath the weight of his plated armor while carrying a heavy weapon, a guandao, as well.

\n

Though the suit is massive, the cosplayer himself was incredibly tall, making him the perfect candidate for this Warframe costume.

Artist and cosplayer, Annie Dean, reminded players of one of the best PlayStation exclusives by That Game Company, Journey with her Dragon Con cosplay.

\n

In just two weeks, what began as scattered red cloth in the dining room soon turned into this carefully crafted costume. Her cloak, mask, and hood are identical to the iconic traveler and emulate every detail of the character. Despite the Georgia heat, she pulled off this costume well.

We look forward to seeing more work from this artist at future cons. See her cosplays and artwork in the link below.

Angel Griuffian offered one of the best Overwatch cosplays as McCree at the convention. Her costume consists of the classic BAMF belt, poncho, and cowboy hat. She's also rocking his weapons of choice, a revolver and stun grenades. The actress/cosplayer is also using a custom arm prosthesis and bionic hand, similar to the beloved gun slinger's.

She states, "I’m so happy I got the opportunity to #cosplay another awesome badass limb different character. As a person with a limb difference, it’s always exciting when there’s a character that 'looks like me' on tv, film, video games, and comics."

Dragon Con is known for its celebration of fantasy, science fiction, arts, comics, gaming, and so much more. It's one of the largest events in Downtown Atlanta, and this labor day weekend was no different, bringing in over 80,000 attendees, many of whom donned amazing and intricate costumes. Cosplayers filled the halls of the five host hotels and walked the streets for five days of events, parties, and photo shoots.

Fortnite cosplay isn't going anywhere any time soon. As popular as Fortnite is, it's bound to dominate conventions for the foreseeable future, as well as your Halloween parties this fall.

\n

From the popular Soldier skin to Outlander Jesse and the Raptor skin, these have been the best Fortnite cosplays we've come across so far.

\n

Think we missed someone crazy important that we'd be stupid not to know about? Gotten yourself dolled up in Fortnite threads and dying to share? Comment below and let us know!

Last, but certainly not least, is Fiona Nova, a vote by the guys behind Fortnite. If you were lucky enough to make it to E3 2018 last week, you might've been able to catch sight of this cutie pie hanging out at the Fortnite booth.

\n

It's not always easy to get the right amount of anti-gravity matter injected into your pigtails for picture day, especially when there's a wig involved. But this lady's got Zoey's hair done up right!

\n

With apparent effortlessness, Fiona elevates this from "straight out of the closet" into something comfy-looking and true-to-character all at once -- all with candy jewels and a peppermint hat.

\n

Totally worth buying a Battle Pass for.

Okay, so maybe I'm just a sucker for an (occasionally) gratuitous booty shot. Maybe I just like appreciating cool backpacks that aren't just a rainbow floatie. No one will ever really know for sure.

\n

What you do know is that cosplay is for creativity - a lot of the time in design as much as in construction.

\n

Sure, we love to dissect how fluffy and/or natural-looking a set of anime bangs are allowed to be, but we also love to put our own spin on a given character design (sometimes whether or not the internet approves/calls you a thot).

\n

Well, nobody (or at least I hope not!) is flinging thirst accusations at amateur cosplayer Habibah for his super cool take on the male Constructor class, throwing together elements from the first trailer with pretty much all the different cool elements the Fortnite aesthetic allows.

\n

Check out his Imgur album with a bunch of different shots that include awesome props, detail work, and shiny LEDs. Definitely worth the browse.

"Best" is relative, and context is everything.

\n

Epic Games ran an enormous Fortnite Pro-Am tournament last weekend at E3 and this was just one of the crazy sights fans could take in during the event.

\n

Fortnite streamer CDNTheThird in a majestic Fortnite unicorn onesie (you should check out his slippers) on the shoulders of his Fortnite partner Xavier Woods -- ready to throw both t-shirts and pancakes at the crowd upon their entrance -- was a site to behold

\n

Our world just gets weirder and weirder. I kinda love it.

All right, so the reason I love this particular cosplay of the Raptor skin is probably completely unintended, but here it is: those gloves. Seriously, the rest of it is understated, even down to the bright pop of the yellow ski mask; it looks like what you'd wear if you'd dropped into a game of PUBG

\n

And then you see those gloves. They look like the ones currently lying on the rim of my sink, waiting for me to finish up with the rest of the breakfast dishes. It's just that last little cartoony pop, and I love it.

Sometimes it's all down to the details.

\n

Oracle Cosplay brings a lot to the table with her modified jacket and props for days, but I'll be honest, it's the makeup that really catches my eye in this cosplay for Outlander Jess (you can see a better picture of it here -- isn't it fab?).

\n

It almost makes me wish it were something I could pull off in during a regular day at work. Watching someone else work it while at Gamescon is a respectable second best.

Tabitha Lyons (also known as ArtyFakes) is one of those people who is constantly doing so much, you really have no idea how she manages to keep up with her life. Somehow in between 60 other cosplays, traveling the world, and hosting MCM Live Stage at London Comic-Con, she popped up in the array of familiar faces that surrounded the Fortnite booth at E3 last week.

\n

Her turn as Soldier class Ramirez includes a fairly simple class costume, it's true, but she ups the ante with props for daysssss...

This isn't the first time that I've oohed over War Panda Cosplay's Constructor Penny, and it won't be the last.

\n

If you think you've seen her before, it could be because she was the jump image for the last Fortnite cosplay listicle that appeared on GameSkinny, or because this Irish cosplayer has been making the rounds through various conventions in the UK as a guest.

\n

The costume itself doesn't lend to the kind of bright-colored dazzle featured in her other more-famous cosplays like League of Legend's Jinx (see here) and Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn (see here). But it's simple, it's well done, I love her wig (see some progress pics here), and her pickaxe is the bomb diggity.

Any excuse is a cosplay excuse, but the Fortnite Pro-Am was definitely a case where the streamers weren't the only ones getting dressed up for the fun of it! General attendees were coming in dressed to the nines -- and this guy's take on the Funk Ops skin is pretty darn good.

Not to overdo the Shadow Ops appreciation, but we had to give a shout out to Dalflicka for her bodypaint version of the character because that's a pretty distant step away from closet cosplay!

\n

If you're busy turning up your nose and sniffing to yourself at the degree of accuracy available to a cosplay artist through paint (or, you know, just busy going "beewwwwbbbssss!!"), rest assured that this is not her only foray in Fortnite cosplay.

You might recognize her from having seen her full Rose Team Leader cosplay (complete with sniper rifle prop) that's also made a number of top cosplay posts when she released pictures of it back in April or her bodypaint take on Brite Bomber

How many skins are cooler than Raven? Go on, I'll wait. (It's those eyes, man. And those feathers!)

\n

Or you could call me biased. Regardless of objectivity, nobody can deny that Raven is one of the coolest skins to come out this year, and players were falling over themselves to shell out the ~$20 for it when it released back in April.

\n

The Raven skin is so popular in fact, that Epic Games had to release an announcement admitting they were having problems processing all the V-bucks currency purchases players were trying to make in order to trade in for the skin. As popular a game as Fortnite is, when Epic can't even handle the sheer amount of money the player base is throwing at it, it means something.

\n

Raven packs a pretty powerful visual punch in-game, and the effect is no different when translated into real life. Colombian cosplayer Adrian Valerian broke out all the stops to get this costume up and ready in record time.

\n

Talk about worth it! The feather detailing is spot on fantastic, and the lit-up eyes just work. Here's a talent to keep an eye on!

Brittany's (@kawaiiwaiku on Twitter) turn in the Shadow Ops Fortnite skin gets super high marks from me for its sleek simplicity. You can check out a better view of the full front of the costume here on Reddit.

If you have any interest in Fortnite cosplay whatsoever, you probably have already seen these photos floating around the internet. Rising YouTuber and streamer Gibson didn't really know what he was getting into when he started pulling together the pieces to make this costume - and it's his first one ever.

\n

Struck by just how cool the Drift skin looks in the game, he really just wanted one for himself. And, it seems, so does the Internet. The original Twitter post from July has exploded, now with over 10k retweets and more than 50k likes. I suspect the number has slowed, but it certainly hasn't stopped rising.

\n

Deceptively simple, most accused Gibson of simply buying all the pieces and wearing them. (Which, hey, outside of the inherent snobbishness of the cosplay community, would be perfectly all right.)

\n

Rest assured, that there was certainly more work involved than a credit card, and this guy put in the effort to paint all those details on that eye-catching mask himself. (You know it's why you stopped and looked.)

This particular cosplay has been making the rounds on Facebook, and it's no wonder since it looks pretty fantastic!

\n

Laura Lux is DJ down under by day, but she too has caught the Fortnite bug and has made zero bones about showing that off. That jug of slurp juice is my  favorite detail.

The beauty of the Fortnite aesthetic is that it doesn't have to break the bank in order to get it right. Half of the outfits look like they were pulled off the racks of Bluenotes, and another fraction from the dollar store. That works in everyone's favor, especially if they're competing!

\n

Cosplay fever is heating back up with the onset of fall weather, and on Wednesday's edition of the Fortnite Fall Skirmish Trials, players were challenged to creating their best Budget Cosplay within the given time limit.

\n

Turner 'Tfue' Tenney from FaZe brought his Jonesy default skin (which he's been popularizing over the past few months in-game) to life, complete with plain pickaxe and bandanna.

\n

He took it one step further however by going extra with his props, posting his challenge video to Twitter - bringing out an umbrella glider as he dives for a prized llama floatie.

\n\n

It also doesn't hurt that other players are already calling him out for looking like a Fortnite character in real life, with or without the clothes.

\n

The winners haven't been announced yet but... the man jumped off a bridge for this. For sheer ballsiness and questionable life choices alone, I think he deserves a medal.

This face again! You're right, she's here because I couldn't resist giving everyone a better look at the rest of this costume that Little Jem wore at E3 2018.

\n

Filled with a million different details that make me smile (her Rainbow Smash pickaxe and the wearing on her kneepads in particular), this chick has brought Brite Bomber to life.

\n

I love it enough to be biased. Hey, it's worth the praise. See more shot here on her Twitter.

I don't know if this counts as cheating or a bargain. Two awesome cosplays for the price of one!

\n

Sarah (or Robot Giggles, as she's known online) is a streamer, a cosplayer, and dedicated attendee at cons. In fact, she's often in cosplay at cons - and when you consider the face-obscuring, head-to-toe, high-heeled works of gaming art that she's most known for, it's exponentially more impressive.

\n

While she is actually known for showing her face (she's a streamer on Mixer), the above are two of her most famous Fortnite cosplays: the intensely terrifying Cuddle Team Leader and the Space Marines-looking Dark Vanguard.

\n

If you've got the time, her Instagram is worth a peek as it's chock-full of different cosplays and progress pics (including this speed cosplay of Fortnite's Huntress skin).

There is a complicated love/hate relationship with the existence of the Patreon creator model, but there's no denying that it's working and even though the expectation of "lewds~" is causing rifts between Patreon and content creators, it's still working fairly well. With the explosion of Fortnite popularity, it was inevitable that an equally huge explosion of good-looking cosplay must follow.

\n

Danish Patreon cosplayer Adeline Frost may have a host of impressive (ahem) assets in her arsenal, but her skill in putting together and making this costume herself is not the least of them. She may not have won the cosplay contest run by Gamescon earlier this year, but her Rose Team Leader entry was on point, right down to the details. You can get a better look at all angles on Instagram.

This one and done shot for Fortnite's Soldier is Russian cosplayer Anastasya Zelenova's apparently only ode to the battle royale genre. But it's definitely already made the rounds of the internet as the fanboys rave about her sizeable... well, assets.

\n

And why not? She looks fantastic, and this cosplay fits the Fortnite aesthetic with no small amount of effort put into the styling. If you want to check out even more work-intensive costumes of hers, Anastasya's take on Brigitte Lindholm (in and out of armor) is downright fantastic as well!

If you haven't already noticed, Fortnite is big. Like, really big.

\n

Epic Games' battle royale fun-fest has hit its stride with gusto and everyone's playing it: your mom, your brother, your cousin, that guy you used to be friends with that always camps in CoD.

\n

The cultural zeitgeist is absolutely obsessed with Fortnite.

\n

Because of that obsession, it's not only the number one Twitch game on the planet, it's also a prime target for cosplayers at just about every single con there is. That's not even mentioning the costume extravaganza that is Halloween.

\n

Since there's so much more ground to conquer, both closet cosplays and talent crafters like Little Jem (above) are working to dominate the cosplay scene by donning everything Fortnite

\n

To celebrate their talented awesomeness, let's take a look at the very best cosplays we've seen so far. If you know of a great Fortnite cosplayer that's not on this list, let us know in the comments, and we'll add them to this list (with their permission, of course).

That's it for now!

\n

While the character artwork and costume design of Fortnite don't exactly make cosplaying as simple as grabbing stuff right out of your closet, there's a ton of options out there for you, whether you want to dress up or keep things dressed down -- and on a budget to boot!

Fortnite Scar Cosplay Replica Digital Blueprints

\n

Price: $10 USD
Sold by: Etsy seller NotEazy

\n

Slightly different from the others, which all revolve around using PLA and 3D printing, this digital download is intended for use in other mediums.

\n

One downside to 3D-printed plastics is the sheer weight -- this particular design will allow you to extend the prop-making to other materials, like EVA foam (which is much lighter and much less expensive, although certainly a great deal more labor-intensive as well).

\n

This shop doesn't have a lot to offer, but this is a digital download only, and you'll get it right away once payment is verified, so it's worth a try!

Brite Bag Bomber Unicorn Fortnite Backpack

\n

Price: $56 + free shipping
Sold by: Etsy seller Incomplette

\n

It ain't always about what guns you're carrying -- you're going to want something else to help carry around all those trees you've been smashing down.

\n

Whether or not you want this for holding con freebies or to take to classes, it's big enough to hold almost whatever you need it to. Measuring 12.2" x 4.9" x 15.7" and made from high-grade PU leather, it comes with a laptop sleeve, padded back, and adjustable straps.

\n

If unicorns aren't your cup of tea, there are a couple different styles available from this seller for the same price:

Suppressed Fortnite Pistol STL File

\n

Price: $12
Sold by: Etsy seller KGPropWorks

\n

If you're lucky enough to have your own 3D printer, you can skip a step and buy the digital download for this pistol design instead! You'll have to sand it down and paint it yourself, but it means a heck of a price drop from buying the finished item entirely.

\n

No moving parts, and the whole thing measures approximately 403mm long by 74mm. You'll also receive the download file pretty much instantly.

\n

Now, if you don't have a 3D printer and still want this pistol design to bring to the table, you can also pick up the printed version of the suppressed pistol ($21 USD + shipping). It'll still need some paint work, but far less equipment to get it serviceable.

Fortnite Common Pistol Prop

\n

Price: $25 USD (unassembled) / $35 USD (assembled, unpainted) / $55 USD (finished) + shipping
Sold by: Etsy seller RPMprototype

\n

If the other stuff is looking way too pricey, consider the option of buying a basic, unassembled kit and putting it together yourself.

\n

This seller offers a few options -- the base weapon is 3D printed from PLA plastic, with no moving parts. It'll take some more work (e.g., sanding, gluing) to get it looking how you want, but it won't break the bank nearly as much as buying everything ready-made.

\n

Aside from the common pistol, you can also find from the same seller:

If the other, finished products are feeling a little rich for your blood, this single pistol option is available in a ton of different colors (though you may prefer to paint it and sand it down yourself anyway).

Fortnite Weapon Props Pack

\n

Price: $680.52 USD + shipping
Sold by: Etsy seller BlackForgeCosplay

\n

Go big or go home is the name of the game when it comes to this pack of five different weapon props (no moving parts).

\n

While it may be slightly overkill to load this many guns onto just one person, if you've got a group cosplay in the cards for the near future, this could be just the right opportunity to help split the bill a little -- if you can all settle on who gets what!

\n

This may be the order of the day if you like a bunch of the Fortnite weapons from BlackForgeCosplay (and who doesn't?). The set includes: a tactical shotgun (shown previously), a SCAR/Siegebreaker, a suppressed pistol, a regular pistol, and a hand cannon/Desert Eagle.

\n

All of them are hand-painted and made to order, so it can take 4-6 weeks to make and ship. Plan accordingly if you're going to spring for it!

\n

If you don't want to drop top dollar for the full weapons pack, you can still buy them individually. For example:

Fortnite Pump Shotgun 1:1 Weapon Prop

\n

Price: $136 + shipping
Sold by: Etsy seller BlackForgeCreations

\n

It's an old saying, but it's hard to slap down big money on a pig in a poke. (That's not quite how the old saying goes, but it's pretty true nonetheless -- buying something without seeing how the end product is going to look like, especially on the internet, is not always easy, nor is it always a great idea.)

\n

What you do get if you're interested in this Fortnite pump shotgun prop is the knowledge that almost all of the best-looking props on Etsy are done by this guy, and he's got both quality pictures and rave customer reviews (e.g., the tactical shotgun shown previously is also his work -- plus, he's also quite known for making and painting Destiny weapon props.)

\n

The final product is 3D printed, hand-painted, and enormous -- about 80 cm long. Also note that each one is made to order, so be ready for a 6-8 week wait before it's ready to ship.

Fortnite Tactical Shotgun 1:1 Cosplay Prop Weapon

\n

The tactical shotgun is a personal favorite in the world of mobile Fortnite, mostly because it is so forgiving at close range, even if you turn like a tank. (Thumbs just don't quite cut it the same way mouse and keyboard do.)

You won't find any moving parts on this bad boy, but you probably won't even miss 'em. 3D printed and about 80 cm long, no one is going to ignore you with this fabulously hand-painted gun prop, no matter how lackluster the rest of your getup may be.

Unless you've been living under a rock (or have had absolutely zero contact with anyone under 20), you will have heard of Fortnite -- the smash 'em up/battle royale funfest from Epic Games.

\n

Partly because of its not-too-serious and cartoony aesthetic, partly because you can pretty much play it for free, Fortnite has taken over. The middle/high school crowd is catching a game or two during free period, Twitch streams are though the roof (Canadian rapper superstar Drake set records during his debut Fortnite stream), and the game is tearing apart fictional relationships in various forms of the "Fortnite boyfriend meme."

\n

It's not enough that the game has become a global sensation; it's also started taking over parts of the convention floor. If you're on the hunt for the perfect weapons or accessories to finalize your Fortnite cosplay or add that extra touch of nerdy to your battle station or bedroom, take a look at some of our favorite picks!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Costume Pack DLC Release Date Confirmed https://www.gameskinny.com/nr7ou/shantae-half-genie-hero-costume-pack-dlc-release-date-confirmed https://www.gameskinny.com/nr7ou/shantae-half-genie-hero-costume-pack-dlc-release-date-confirmed Fri, 06 Apr 2018 14:17:11 -0400 Greyson Ditzler

WayForward has released a new trailer for the final DLC add-on to Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, which is set to be the final piece of DLC for the game, simply titled "Costume Pack." While the title of the DLC is simple, the DLC itself is much more than just new outfits for Shantae, as each costume comes with its own unique mechanics and alternative story modes to the main game.

The pack contains three outfits/modes for Shantae. First, there's the ninja, which prioritizes swift movement and utilizing new techniques such as wall jumping, throwing stars, and short-range teleportation. There's the Beach Costume, which also comes with its own moves, that adds a new heat mechanic that necessitates that Shantae not stay in the sun too long without sunscreen or a quick duck in the shade, which adds a ticking clock element to the gameplay. Lastly, there's the Officer Costume, which pays direct homage to WayForward's Mighty Switch Force! series of puzzle games and allows Shantae to phase certain blocks in the environment in and out of existence as she hunts down escaped criminal hooligans.

These modes will also all have their own "what-if" storylines, with new dialogue and voice acting as well as different end-screens based on the player's item collection skills and speed in completing them. And similar to the previous "Friends to the End" DLC, players will be able to gradually level up the strength of Shantae's weapons in each mode as they progress.

The "Costume Pack" DLC for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will be available on all platforms on April 10. The DLC will be free to all the backers of the game, as all previous DLC was, and will be included in the full package of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition.

Not to be outdone, FFXV also offers a costume pack allowing players to dress as Half-Life protagonist Gordon Freeman, complete with spectacles and a crowbar. This pack is available in both the campaign and the multiplayer expansion "Comrades" for those who purchase the game before May 1st.

Here are some other fantastic crossovers we'd love to see in Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition.

Naruto

With all the raving fanfiction out there intertwining the two universes, I'm quite certain that any sort of Naruto feature or costume pack would make for quite a happy fanbase. From shurikens and ramen to headbands and kunai daggers, this beautiful fandom combination would certainly make gamers elated for the release.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Battle Royale is all the craze of the new generation, but PUBG has definitely hit a wave unlike any other game of its kind. A crossover with FFXV would excite fans of both franchises and make quite a splash. Masks, trench coats, oversexualized girls' school uniforms, and lots and lots of tacky weapons -- if that doesn't define PUBG for what it is, I don't know what does.

Grand Theft Auto V

To suit some of FFXV's bizarre universe, a GTA 5 crossover chapter would make for an interesting expansion. Cars, crime, robberies, ladies, a polluted city -- why not? Not only would it amp up the excitement of the game, but it would celebrate all that Grand Theft Auto stands for -- reckless open-world gaming.

Elder Scrolls

To be fair, Skyrim has produced a good chunk of quality memes over the years, not to mention a variety of crazy mods. Imagining an Elder Scrolls-meets-Final Fantasy expansion would be as bizarre as it would be exciting -- two brilliant, well-appreciated franchises on a blind date. The material could range anywhere from Nordic swords to fur armor to intelligent dragons. Anything is possible in both universes.

Kingdom Hearts

This one probably hits close to home because of the massive internet fanfiction following. After RWBY, a well-known anime series, Square Enix's second child, Kingdom Hearts, is the second most popular crossover fantasy for die-hard Final Fantasy devotees. With the animations, characters, and combat styles bearing an uncanny resemblance to one another in the scope of an ARPG, there are many who would enjoy a couple of good skins to satisfy their fandom needs.

---

With so many great options, Final Fantasy XV is bound to see more skins, expansions, and features in the future to celebrate the intersectional nature of the franchise. Let's see if any of these make it to the list!

What are some crossovers you'd like to see included in the PC release? Let us know in the comments below!

Did we miss anyone else you think will really blow up conventions? (And when I ask this, I consider Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Link convention staples at this point!) Who or what is it? And why?

\n

And before we peace out for good, Geralt above is my wild card... and I suspect it will largely depend on whether or not the upcoming Netflix TV adaptation looks any good.

\n

And while you're here, make sure to check some of our other cosplay articles:

Mercy -- Overwatch

\n

While we're on the Blizzard bandwagon, we can't help but include a nod to the crazy construction efforts of every Mercy cosplayer (give or take the Dr. Ziegler casual fan iteration) who has ever stepped on the convention floor.

\n

The latest event to hit Overwatch (Lunar Year of the Dog) has dumped a huge amount of new material on us. And while it's perhaps unlikely we'll see many of the Zhuque versions of Mercy at conventions (although, if you're considering it... oh, hell yes, please!) there are sure to be a ton of other iterations.

\n

\n

Case in point, Valkyrie (and alternatively, the recolored Sigrun skin), made especially poignant thanks to the recent re-balances (see: nerf) to the character's ultimate/resurrection ability.

\n

Mercy mains will mourn overpowered Valkyrie 1.0 for months to come, and what better way to do it than to do it while wearing the namesake skin?

Nova -- StarCraft II

\n

All right, so StarCraft II isn't exactly "upcoming" in any sense of the word (it only recently went free-to-play last year), but Nova's constant reappearance in other areas of the Blizzard world means something. It also helps that she sports a fairly consistent character design across all of her appearances, making her a pretty easy character to cosplay.

\n

She's a prime character in Heroes of the Storm, and her character design recently made the jump to Blizzard's big-name shooter Overwatch, as well as a skin for French sniper Widowmaker that should do wonders bringing back this blond bombshell.

\n

\n

For any cosplayer with a love of LEDs, Nova is a great choice for a simple, streamlined design... and yet she'll always manage to catch your eye on the con floor. And if you don't have Widowmaker-level booty, Heroes of the Storm has a ton of new source material for alternate Nova skins that should keep the inspiration machine churning for months.

Kratos -- God of War

\n

If you're starting to feel like most of the characters on here are from a Video Gaming's Greatest Hits disc, you're not the only one. It's an interesting year where the biggest upcoming games are either ones that don't exactly lend themselves to interesting costume design (Last of Us 2Red Dead Redemption 2, Metro Exodos, A Way Out) or just don't have any real standout cosplayable characters (Monster Hunter World, Anthem).

\n

However, God of War 4 brings Kratos back to the world of the living -- and gives him a son. It also flings him head-first into the world of Norse mythology, which is an interesting twist in a seven-game legacy based off of Greek mythology.

\n

\n

It helps that while Kratos' base design hasn't changed much, his outfit has been given a little more of an update to correspond with his new surroundings. And what's more, while the original unstoppable rage machine of the original games was what gave Kratos his initial appeal, this unchanging, static ball of hatred was beginning to wear.

\n

A little redemption and a new kind of appeal (what's this, real humanity?) in Kratos sounds like it's in the cards for the God of War franchise, which is why you're much more likely to see a return to cons this year.

Sophitia -- Soulcalibur VI

\n

A sword-wielding staple of the bounce, bounce jiggle, jiggle fest that is the Soulcalibur series, seraphic Sophitia has always more or less managed to walk a fine line between gracefulness and gratuitous boobage -- at least in comparison to, say, Ivy.

\n

Gravity works in every lady's favor in this fighting game franchise, and Soul Calibur 6 aims to bring more story to the franchise, as well as additional mechanics that will help players through its more-than-button-mash learning curve, which should help bring it back to the forefront of the cosplaying community.

\n

Although this iteration has her shirt slit down almost to her naval (no one is fooled by those laces), Sophitia still remains one of the easiest of the reoccurring SC characters to cosplay -- one that keeps all the goods in place, while still allowing for a little leeway when it comes to having the perfect body.

\n

She's also cooler than Cassandra, but that might just be my bias showing.

Fury -- Darksiders III

\n

Aside from my sheer -- and unashamed -- attraction to any pretty face with bright red hair, Fury, from the upcoming hack and slash Darksiders 3easily makes an appearance on this list. Packing a serious punch in both character design and updated apocalyptic lore, there's little doubt other cosplayers will feel the same about D3's heroine.

\n

Originally introduced in Darksiders as one of the Four Horsemen, Darksiders 3 will place the blade-mage center stage as a graceful, cartwheeling, blade whipping protagonist.

\n

Fury Cosplay Germia

\n

The main thing holding keeping early cosplayers from cosplaying as Fury is that her costume isn't an overly simple one craft -- and there just aren't enough resources yet to make it a late-stage endeavor for most cosplayers of any craftsmanship level.

\n

However, this isn't to say that some haven't already gotten a head start: popular Euro cosplayer Germia, for example, has already taken steps to building up several parts of it already! (See above image)

Sora -- Kingdom Hearts III

\n

While a release date is still pending (they swear it's coming out sometime this year!), the hype for Kingdom Hearts 3 has been holding fairly steady over the years. Following a number of teasers, trailers, gameplay videos, and just the natural progression that comes from too many HD remakes, there's no stopping the KH3 hype train.

\n

And one of the most endearing characters from the franchise is Sora -- meaning he's definitely going to be appearing at a con near you this year.

\n

He may have gained a few inches, but our spunky, spiky-haired hero in the over-sized shoes hasn't changed much in terms of character design -- even if his color palette has certainly gotten a shakeup.

\n

\n

With what looks like more than half a dozen costume changes in the upcoming game, Sora's baby face is sure to be a staple in any group cosplay, particularly since silver-haired pretty boy Riku is guaranteed a larger role in KH3 than he's had in previous iterations -- and is just as likely to make it to con floors.

Con season is only just starting to heat up and a whole slew of games are set to release in the coming months that will fuel the cosplay fire.

\n

You're certainly going to see a ton of costumes inspired by new releases, but you're also going to see cosplay inspired by the events and characters of yesteryear -- particularly during the lull where new trends just haven't had time to pop up. See above, for example: never mind her superstar appearance in 2017's Injustice 2, the meteoric hit that was Wonder Woman's origin movie has guaranteed her a girl-power slot on cosplay planning Pinterest boards for years to come.

\n

So in light of that, let's take a look at some of the costumes we think are going to dominate cosplay this con season. From Fury and Mercy to Sora and Kratos, here's what you can expect.

The Best League of Legends Cosplay Gatherings of 2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/j1y7y/the-best-league-of-legends-cosplay-gatherings-of-2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/j1y7y/the-best-league-of-legends-cosplay-gatherings-of-2017 Thu, 30 Nov 2017 13:14:48 -0500 CaralineNelson

Gaming cosplay communities have grown tremendously over the past few years, and this especially holds true for League of Legends. Jessica “Mhija” Negrón stated, “Cosplayers bring an incredible amount of hard work and heart to the League community,” and nowhere was this more apparent than in the League of Legends conventions and expos of 2017.

MCM London

Taking place in May of this year, MCM London was probably the first convention for many European League players. Video designer Sneaky Zebra was actually asked by Riot to attend and make a cosplay music video for them. While there was no shortage of Star Guardians or of the newest bot lane couple, Rakan and Xayah, there were also some rarer sightings of a life-sized Tibbers, Kindred, Nasus, and a Morgana with massive wings.

Anime Expo

The Anime Expo in downtown Los Angeles kicked off on July 1st of this year. Best-known for holding the United States’ World Cosplay Summit Preliminaries, it’s no wonder that some amazing artists showed up to represent the League of Legends community.

Syndra appeared with a fearsome glowing headpiece. The Emperor of the Sands, Azir, was seen with some magnificent armor, and Poppy showed up wielding a hammer larger than herself. Thresh looked ready to hook his opponents, and Re-gifted Amumu could be found in tears as Moo Cow Alister rang his cowbell. There were even a few Poros to be spotted!

Gamescom

Gamescom ran from August 22nd to 26th with a record attendance of 335,000 gamers from 54 countries. With a bomb loving Ziggs, as well as an Arcade Miss Fortune and Riven, there was certainly no shortage of champion representation. Thiel Photography worked to capture some of the most talented League of Legends cosplayers in this video.

PAX West

PAX West took place in September, and it starred Neo PAX Sivir. The cosplay was created by Kadee Danger in collaboration with Stoopid Buddy Studios, and featured her weapon which many described as a giant glowing fidget spinner. Those in attendance also got a code in their bags for the in-game skin. Other notable designs included a stunning Shaco and a remarkable Wukong.

With 2017 coming to a close, that's probably it for League of Legends cosplay this year. If you're interested in some of our other League of Legends content, you can find it here!

Horizon Zero Dawn Fanworks That Will Blow Your Mind https://www.gameskinny.com/86pg6/horizon-zero-dawn-fanworks-that-will-blow-your-mind https://www.gameskinny.com/86pg6/horizon-zero-dawn-fanworks-that-will-blow-your-mind Tue, 07 Nov 2017 10:53:39 -0500 bazookajo94

Being a part of a gaming fandom is great. You can choose to interact with the community by commenting in the forums, watching or creating streams, or talking non-stop about your favorite game to someone who doesn't even know what it is until they're either forced to play the game themselves or vow to never play the game as long as they live.

Another great part of having a wide variety of people being a part of a fandom is that at least one of them is bound to be an artist. Though sometimes that aspect can get a little weird (here's looking at you, Sonic), for games like Horizon Zero Dawn, fans don't have to be so apprehensive.

Horizon Zero Dawn, released in February 2017 by Guerrilla Games, is a post-apocalyptic survival game that blends hunter-and-gatherer tribe culture with really cool robots. A game so aesthetically pleasing on its own is bound to have just as beautiful fan art, and this article sets out to show you the best fans have created in homage to this game.

What better way to start out a digital game than with some digital fan art? Take this portrait of the main character Aloy by tumblr user shalizeh. I can't get over how good the lighting is in this. Unfortunately, shalizeh doesn't take commissions or requests, so it's lucky she likes video games or else we would never know how good her Horizon Zero Dawn art would look.

It's fun when people create a contrasting piece of work to its original medium. Take this pixelated Tallneck from AstraGalactica. Usually it's the pixelated games that get rendered into a realistic photo, so it's a treat to see the opposite.

In fact, it's so cute, here's the rest of the pixel creatures this artist has on their DeviantArt.

But if digital art isn't your style, check out this Watcher by DeviantArt user BlackbubbleArt. The artist inked this creature with a pen and marker and captured perfectly the sinister yet endearing qualities of this little tyke.

You know what else is just as fun as realistic drawings? Comic book renditions. Take a look at Eleonora Carlini's drawing from Horizon Zero Dawn. The splash of red in an otherwise black and white piece gives the same amount of contrast as the futuristic-yet-tribal game seeks to present.

Or maybe you want some crossover art, like this tumblr user created of Aloy and Ciri from The Witcher series, or their piece of duo Lara Croft and Aloy.

Yes, I have also noticed the abundant amount of Aloy pictures for this game. I can't blame anyone: Aloy is a beloved main character.

But for those of us who want to see some other characters, here's a piece by zanephiri of the Sun-King Avid

Slaaaay, Sun-King, slay.

But art isn't just confined to the use of ink and paper or pens and tablets. Cosplay is just as creative and worthy of spotlight.

Especially if they're as good as this cosplay of Aloy.

Like, bruh. Are you seeing this right now? It is not a painting. It's a production from duo Lina and Alex, cosplayers from Russia who own Lucky Strike Cosplays. They design costumes from a variety of different fandoms and have their work available to buy on Etsy.

I'm still not entirely convinced these aren't paintings.

But Lucky Strike aren't the only cosplayers on the Horizon Zero Dawn horizon. Here's Kamui Cosplay who also created an Aloy cosplay, but with different armor.

Seeing something so beautifully crafted always makes me wonder if I'll ever amount to anything so inspiring in my life.

It's true: this game is so beautiful, and people are so talented, it's sometimes hard to tell what's a screenshot and what's fan art. For those who need more, you can buy The Art of Horizon Zero Dawn on Amazon at a listed price of $39.95, put together by Guerrilla Games, and enjoy being in a fandom that is as passionate about art as you are.

The Witcher Inspires A Decade Of Amazing Cosplay https://www.gameskinny.com/ydxpw/the-witcher-inspires-a-decade-of-amazing-cosplay https://www.gameskinny.com/ydxpw/the-witcher-inspires-a-decade-of-amazing-cosplay Fri, 20 Oct 2017 12:57:55 -0400 Ty Arthur

Can you believe we've had a full decade of The Witcher games already? October of 2007 saw the release of a little title from then-unknown developer CD Projekt Red that would go on to change the gaming landscape.

It seems like a minor understatement that the series (and its book inspirations) have had a bit an impact on the wider world. Last year, Poland actually got a Geralt of Rivia postage stamp. I mean, does Mario even have his own stamp at this point?

A country's government recognizing the impact of the franchise is just the tip of the iceberg though, as much more fan content has been spawned over the years, from the ultra steamy Witcher 2017 calendar featuring Geralt master impersonator Maul, to some truly stunning cosplays directly from the legion of devoted fans.

 Well, hello there February!

Bringing A Digital World To Life

There are plenty of attractive men and women willing to don the clothes and take on the persona of Triss, Yennefer, and the rest of the ladies who play with boy toy Geralt, but what doesn't get quite as much attention is the level of detail put into the rarer monster cosplays.

That's an unfortunate oversight for a series focused on learning everything you can about various creatures before hacking them to bits, especially considering the amount of lore packed into the games about those monsters.

On the creature feature front, Elena Samko has put together some jaw-dropping and insanely spot-on renditions of Witcher foes.

Her renditions of the Nightwraith and Wight are well worth your attention, but its the sad tale of the Noonwraith bride haunting a well that really gets to brought to life.

You can't ever un-see that dangling tongue, and the crown of flowers brings it all together, recalling the bride's tragic end in the dark world of The Witcher.

Of course the three demonic Crone sisters also get their due in various re-creations, with the middle sister known as the Brewess showing the multi-faceted nature of Witcher cosplaying. It's not all unicorns, bath tubs, and sexy witches, that's for sure!

Word of advice: don't drink the soup.

From Pixel To Paint Brush

The legacy of The Witcher's impact isn't just limited to stunning costumes either, as the creativity of the fans truly knows no bounds. There's probably more fan art online than you could ever actually see in a single lifetime of web browsing, and much of it twists the game in unique ways, smashing together opposing genres.

The aforementioned Maul has a crossover photoshoot re-imagining Geralt as a feudal Japanese Samurai (making me wonder now if perhaps that's how Nioh came to be), but what has probably most captured fan imagination is the Witcher noir series of prints from Ástor Alexander.

It's so obvious in hindsight for the many sorceress women that define The Witcher series to appear as dangerous damsels in a noir detective story, and Alexander nailed that smoky mysterious feel. In an awesome recursion of fandom, there's even been identical cosplays painstakingly recreating the artwork.

If somebody wanted to go ahead and write these up, I'd buy 'em on Kindle!

Geralt Hits The Small Screen

Following costumes and artwork, its obvious where fan creation would inevitably end up going as some Witcher fanatics pulled out their cameras and got to work.

After Castlevania got its due with a four episode series this year, it probably shouldn't be much of a surprise that Netflix also picked up The Witcher for a 2018 episodic release.

The fans couldn't wait through all these years for a movie adaptation though, and there are plenty of player-made videos to be found across YouTube and Vimeo.

There's a surprising level of production value to several of these lovingly crafted clips, with some production teams even taking to crowd funding methods to ensure a high enough quality to be worth releasing.

There's no question that the loyal fanbase is head over heels for The Witcher and willing to put in an absurd amount of work to honor this decade-old series.

Here's to ten more years of The Witcher inspiring fans to create works of absolute art! Now if we could only get CD Projekt Red to finish Cyperbunk 2077 already, there'd be opportunity for a whole new generation of amazing cosplay to gawk at...

Do you have any of your own Witcher-inspired fan creations to share with the world, from cosplays to artwork to videos to fanfic? Let us know what you've created to show you love for the series in the comments below!

Brock DIY Costume

\n

This is probably one of the easiest Pokemon DIY costumes. All you'll need is an orange shirt, brown pants, a green vest, and there you go -- instant DIY Brock costume. You can jazz it up with a sporty green vest if you like, along with a camping backpack, but that's completely optional.

\n

If you really want to go all out, though, you could gel up your hair -- or get a spiky wig -- and then carry around a pet rock and call it Geodude. This is a costume that would work just as well for Brock's female fans, too!

Whether you're a Nurse Joy fan or a Pokemon GO fanatic, there's something for almost everyone to choose from on this list of DIY Pokemon costumes for Halloween -- or the expo floor.

Nurse Joy DIY Costume

\n

This one might just be easier to put together than the Brock costume. It's also a nice twist on the typical nurse Halloween costume -- one that you can actually feel comfortable wearing. Here's what you'll need:

  • Pink dress
  • \n
  • White apron
  • \n
  • Nurse's cap

  • Pink hair dye or wig

\n

If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you could even try to copy the classic Nurse Joy hairstyle by putting your hair into pig-tails, braiding it, and putting a wire down the middle of the braids and shaping each into a circle.

Poliwhirl DIY Costume

\n

This costume might be one of the easiest ones on this list to make, but that doesn't mean it lacks quality. It only requires a few materials.

\n

What you'll need for this Poliwhirl costume:

\n
    \n
  • 1 purple or navy sweatshirt with hood (or you can dye an existing sweatshirt)
  • \n
  • White felt
  • \n
  • 1 black felt-tip pen
  • \n
  • Fabric or craft glue
  • \n
\n

Cut out a circle from the white felt. How much will depend on the size of the sweatshirt you use, but you want it to cover most of the torso. Draw a spiral with your pen, then glue the circle to the shirt. For the eyes, cut out two large ovals from the white felt. Shade in the black portion with your pen, then glue the eyes to the hood.

Easy Pikachu DIY Costume

\n

If the Squirtle costume seems a bit more than you want to put into your get-up, here's an easier one: Pikachu.

\n

What you'll need to complete this costume:

\n
    \n
  • Sweatshirt and pants (if you can find yellow ones, that's great, but if not, just dye them with regular fabric dye like Rit)
  • \n
  • 1/2 yard of yellow fabric (if you're concerned about the yellows matching, just get white fabric and dye it too)
  • \n
  • Brown felt (how much depends on the size of your shirt)
  • \n
  • Needle and yellow and brown thread
  • \n
  • Glue
  • \n
  • Scissors
  • \n
  • Polyfill or equivalent
  • \n
  • Washable fabric pencil or marker
  • \n
  • Red face paint (optional)
  • \n
\n

Most of what you're DIYing here is the ears, rear stripes, and tail. For detailed instructions, including PDF pattern pieces if you don't want to wing it, check out the process here.

Squirtle DIY Costume

\n

This one might look complicated, but it's pretty simple to put together. Plus, some of the parts -- hood and tail -- are completely optional.

\n

What you'll need to get started:

\n
    \n
  • A basic shirt pattern (or if you don't have one, you can use an old shirt as your guide, with separate pieces for the sleeves and the front and back).
  • \n
  • Blue and beige fleece or regular cotton fabric for the shirt pieces
  • \n
  • Brown fleece for the shell (enough for two ovals, one larger and one smaller; you can adjust the size to suit your needs, so how much depends on how big you want the shell)
  • \n
  • Additional beige fleece for the shell lining (like before, how much depends on the shell size)
  • \n
  • Ribbon or (recommended) a black felt-tip marker
  • \n
  • Polyfill or whatever brand you use or can find (2 8oz. bags should do the trick)
  • \n
  • Craft glue
  • \n
  • Needle and thread
  • \n
\n

Put your shirt together following your pattern's instructions. This one calls for black ribbon to be sewed on the front, but really, you can get the same effect with a black marker and a lot less trouble.

\n

For the shell, cut out two ovals from the brown fleece, one larger and one smaller. Sew the smaller onto the larger, and leave an opening for the stuffing. Fill the shell, sew the opening closed, and glue the strip of beige fleece around the edge. Stitch or glue the shell onto the back of the shirt, and that's it for the basic costume!

\n

The Tail

\n

You can also make a tail to go along with it, if you're interested. For the tail, use the fleece or cotton you used for the shirt. Cut out two long triangles, and stitch them right sides together--or, in other words, inside out--leaving an opening big enough for you to turn the fabric right-side out. Turn it, then stuff the tail with cotton stuffing, and stitch the opening closed. For the swirl, roll the end of the tail up and stitch it to the long part of the tail. (How high up you roll and stitch determines how curly it will be). Then, attach the base of the tail to the inside of the shirt.

Jigglypuff Sweatshirt DIY Costume

\n

Here's another no-sew costume that only takes a short amount of time and few materials to pull off.

\n

What you'll need for the main outfit:

\n
    \n
  • 1 pink sweatshirt (oversized would probably work best)
  • \n
  • 1 extra pink sweatshirt for the ears, or one 1/2 yard of matching pink fabric
  • \n
  • 1 paper dinner plate
  • \n
  • 2 sheets of white craft or construction paper
  • \n
  • Black, pink, and blue craft or stencil paint
  • \n
  • Craft glue
  • \n
  • Duct tape
  • \n
  • Glitter (optional)
  • \n
\n

What you'll need for the microphone:

\n
    \n
  • 1 empty paper towel roll
  • \n
  • 1 paint roller head
  • \n
\n

You'll use the paper plate as your eye pattern on the paper. The video doesn't show what specific shades of blue used in this specific costume, but any light and slightly darker blue would work fine. Glue your eyes on, paint them, then paint your mouth and swirl; top the painted paper towel roll with the roller head, and you're good to go!

Jessie and James Team Rocket DIY Costumes

\n

This is one of the easier ways to make your own Team Rocket costume(s). It's a no-sew project where your main material is just white T-shirts -- even for the skirt. This is everything you'll need:

\n

What you'll need for Jessie:

\n
    \n
  • 1 white T-shirt
  • \n
  • 1 black T-shirt (if you aren't comfortable with Jessie's short crop-top)
  • \n
  • 1 pair of black gloves
  • \n
  • 1 pair of black boots
  • \n
\n

What you'll need for James:

\n
    \n
  • 1 white T-shirt
  • \n
  • 1 black T-shirt for an undershirt
  • \n
  • 1 pair of white pants
  • \n
  • 1 pair of black boots
  • \n
  • 1 pair of black gloves
  • \n
\n

You can easily find the gloves and boots at a party store if you don't want to buy regular of each. The video also links to a how-to for the Jessie wig, but Halloween hair dye for both Jessie and James would make the process much easier. However, if you are up for a challenge, here's how to make the wig.

Misty DIY Costume

\n

The trio of character costumes couldn't be complete without Misty! And this DIY costume is equally easy to put together. All you need to complete this look is:

\n
    \n
  • 1 yellow tank-top or crop-top shirt
  • \n
  • 1 pair of denim shorts
  • \n
  • 1 pair of red suspenders
  • \n
  • 1 red backpack
  • \n
\n

The above picture shows red high-top shoes, but really, your favorite sneakers would work just as well. The wig is optional, of course; you could just dye your hair or put it in a side ponytail. The Togepi is optional, too -- adorable, but completely optional.

\n

For guys, here's how you can pull off the Misty look, too.

Ash Ketchum DIY Costume

\n

With this super-easy costume from Keeping It Simple, you can truly be the very best -- yes, like no one ever was. All you need are basic sewing and painting skills to pull this one off like a pro.

\n

What you'll need for the vest:

\n
    \n
  • 1 blue vest
  • \n
  • 1 white collared shirt
  • \n
  • Yellow felt, enough for a band around the bottom of the vest and the pockets
  • \n
\n

What you'll need for the other pieces:

\n
    \n
  • 1 red hat plus white and black felt to attach to it
  • \n
  • Glue (if you didn't already guess that one)
  • \n
  • 1 small styrofoam ball, plus white and black paint
  • \n
  • Green gloves
  • \n
\n

The creator of this particular costume sewed the shirt into the vest, but if you're going to wear a different shirt under the vest, you can just cut the collar and sleeves off, then sew them to the inside of the vest -- which might be the easier route to take. For the gloves, you could cut the tips off the fingers of any green pair of gloves.

\n

The yellow felt lining gets sewn onto the inside of the vest, both for pockets and bottoms. Hand-sewing might be easier because of the location of it, but you could use a sewing machine if you've got one handy.

\n

If you fancy something more involved or plan on wearing this costume more than once, check out this video for another way to make your own DIY Ash costume.

How to DIY Officer D.Va

\n

The only thing that might give you some trouble is constructing a fairly believable looking Asian police hat, but even that shouldn't be too hard to do!

\n
What You Need:
\n
    \n
  1. Baby Blue Dress Shirt: Ideally with two front pockets. This should fit you pretty well, since you're going to want to be wearing a tie with this one and won't just be letting it flop open in all the usual stress areas of temperamental button-downs.

  2. \n
  3. Navy or Black Dress Pants: High waisted ones fit the bill nicely, belted at the top, with shirt tails neatly tucked in.

  4. \n
  5. Bunny Patch: You can find plenty of Etsy sellers like this one where you can buy a D.VA bunny patch, but you can always make your own and just pin it to the front of your shirt.

  6. \n
  7. Wig (optional): Even if you're a brunettte with long hair, it helps to have the bangs just so. Thankfully, D.Va is super easy to style, and this kind of wig you can find almost anywhere.

  8. \n
  9. Tie: Black and blue diagonal stripes make up the original, but as you can see above, you can play around with this color scheme without too much adverse effect.

  10. \n
  11. White Gloves: These are crazy plentiful during this season in costume stores and dollar stores, but you can also find them in accessory stores as well (try to look for cotton gloves instead of shiny satin if you can).

  12. \n
  13. Police Hat: Honestly, even if you nabbed a western police hat and wore it with the rest, you could still find yourself very identifiably D.Va. If you don't want to do this, take a look at your local teeny accessories store (here in Canada, I like looking up Ardene's) for a hat where you can modify the brim (felt hats are really easy to work with), add some braid, and draw the rest of the designs to pin to the front.

  14. \n
  15. Makeup: What makes D.Va instantly recognizable are the marks on her face. Make sure these little triangles pop! You can use makeup or you can use face paint (this might be easier for those of you without a steady hand). If you need to, buy yourself a triangle makeup sponge from the dollar store and use it as a stamping tool.

Officer D.Va

\n

Getting D.Va's hair right may be the easiest for all of Overwatch's ladies (except Symmetra, but Sym's more recognizeable head accessories make her a bigger challenge). And while you can find D.Va's original jumpsuit almost anywhere (including the officially licensed version at Spirit Halloween), this jump-through-my-hoops skin that you receive if you played a certain number of games during one of Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm events is far easier to pull off and make up yourself.

\n

Since Officer D.Va's uniform is so similar to Judy Hopps's from recent Disney hit Zootopia, it makes it even easier to find the essential parts of the costume.

How to DIY Grillmaster 76

\n

Unfortunately, Grillmaster 76's epic combat apron doesn't look like it's actually for sale (although Blizzard did make a few for giveaway purposes). But that shouldn't stop you from being able to make you own!

\n
What You'll Need:
\n
    \n
  1. Red Hawaiian Shirt: Collared with short sleeves! If you check out the design, he also has a 76 on the back that you can just make a cutout in red fabric for, paint on it in white fabric paint, and either sew or glue it to the back of your shirt.

  2. \n
  3. Tan Cargo Shorts: With pockets. Extra pockets. You can bet Daddy 76 has optimal storage capacity for all that beer.

  4. \n
  5. Blue Apron: You can try and fancy it up with extra combat pockets and carabiners, but the most important part is that you stencil on and spray paint "RAISE THE STEAKS" on the front, and keep a pair of tongs and spatula handy.

  6. \n
  7. Wraparound Mirror Sunglasses: Considering how popular these shades are these days, you should be able to find a low-cost pair at your local gas station or dollar store.

  8. \n
  9. White Dishcloth: Leave it hanging out of one of your pants pockets for easy access.

  10. \n
  11. White Hair Color: Temporary color sprays are super easy to find at this time of year so check out your local stores to get that grayed out Daddy hair.

  12. \n
  13. Beer Armband: At the very least, if you're having trouble finding something leather that you can make this with, use duct-tape and/or electrical tape to simply tape it all together and to your arm!
  14. \n
\n

Don't forget your water gun!

Grillmaster 76

\n

Long after Dad 76 became a meme, Blizzard finally broke down and played to what the fans really wanted out of Soldier 76 in the recent rendition of the Summer Games event. A number of details stand out to make this skin a gem among Soldier skins, but it's the pure simplicity of it that will make it a hit at your Halloween party.

Soldier 76's original design isn't too fancy of course, but it is a lot trickier to mock up and make everything that identifies him (e.g. his visor, jacket, enormous gun). With this skin, you could ostensibly tote around a Super Soaker or a coffee mug as your weapon of choice and no one would bat an eye.

How to DIY Doctor Mercy

\n

Admittedly, Victory Mercy is an easier prospect, especially since the Greek Goddess is a staple in cheap adult costumes that you can pretty much hack together without a great deal of finesse or sewing skill. But the wings might give you a bit more trouble. So if you wan to forgo them entirely, here's what you'll need to cosplay as Doctor Mercy instead.

\n
What You'll Need:
\n
    \n
  1. Halo Headdress: You can skimp on a lot of things, but you won't get out of wearing Mercy's distinctive halo headdress if you really want to make a Mercy. You can follow Chrix's design from her tutorial above, or hunt around for a round plastic jug that you can cut up (like a large bleach bottle) and which will keep its shape. Elasticize the bottom to fit comfortably around your head, and don't be afraid to pin it into place.

  2. \n
  3. Wig (Optional): Even if you're naturally a bombshell blonde, it will generally take a wig (or a lot of styling) to really make Mercy's hair pop.

  4. \n
  5. Lab Coat: The key with simple costumes lies in the details. You could have a perfectly plain, serviceable lab coat (costumes stores will likely have them, if not, infiltrate your local college campus bookstore, they're likely to stock them for $10-15) but I suggest sewing/ironing on a Mercy sleeve patch like this onto one shoulder. You can also find other methods of making your own iron-on transfers.

  6. \n
  7. Stethoscope: You can try and just check pulses with your fingers, but who doesn't love an extra prop or two? Drug stores will have fairly inexpensive functional stethoscopes, but you can find fake ones in dollar stores, costume stores, and your local Walmart-type store for less.

  8. \n
  9. Business casual: While the majority of Dr. Mercy's styling comes from fanart and usually features dark pants and a gray turtleneck, how you do the rest is entirely up to you. Why not burnt orange to play on her original costume coloring, while also invoking the color of the season?
  10. \n

If you want a closer look at the patches that Mercy uses on various parts of her original costume, you can take a look at the official Mercy reference kit.

Doctor Mercy

\n

Having just lent out my own lab coat and stethoscope for a coworker's daughter's upcoming Halloween costume, I have a fair idea of how easily you can pull together a doctor costume. While this is not exactly an official costume or skin of Mercy's by any means, the Dr. Ziegler cosplay idea has spread in the wake of busy con-goers who wanted a more casual way to represent the most popular support character in the game.

\n

So while you could deck yourself out in full regalia, either by dropping ~$1200 for it by buying the full costume (with no guarantees that they could make it for you/ship it to you by Halloween) or by trying to make it yourself a la Chrix Design's tutorial, you're probably not going to.

How to DIY Child Reaper/El Blanco

\n

When it comes to Reaper, you've got the opportunity of a lifetime to go as crazy or as cool or as casual as you want. Large hoods are a staple at this time of year, so you shouldn't have any problems getting your hands on one. Aand if you go the hoodie route, it ends up being even easier!

\n
What You'll Need:
\n
    \n
  1. Mask: Which one depends entirely on you. Making a good-looking original skin mask might be a little difficult, and you might want to shy away from the kindergarten paper plate mask. But if you wanted to make the mask from the El Blanco/Marachi skins, skull masks are easy to find at this time of year, and you can add the extra designs and embellishments yourself with a permanent marker.

  2. \n
  3. Hooded coat: Or hoodie, if you're doing Halloween Kid Reaper. Either way, you'll want a big black hood to hide your head in. Ostensibly you'll want a duster for the full effect -- but if you grabbed a Grim Reaper cloak and wore that instead, no one would fault you.

  4. \n
  5. Guns, guns, guns! Sure you could try and use Coke bottles like the cosplayer above, or you could make something quick, easy, and light out of both cardboard/foam and paint. Keep a few more in your cloak so you can just drop them nonchalantly everywhere you go.

  6. \n
  7. Shotgun cartridges: No, not the real ones (although I guess that's always an option). Making the little red canisters and stringing them together won't be difficult with a little bit of spray paint (or even construction paper and glue if you want to go super low-tech) and they'll definitely help the casual observer realize just what kind of gamer badass you really are.
  8. \n
\n

If you want to add to your armor, you can cut and shape black foam to the front of your shirt, and use duct tape, cardboard, and spray paint to outfit yourself in his giant knee-high boots. They can look even nicer if you have Worbla available to shape around the framework you've already made.

\n

You can take a look at some of the finer details in the official Reaper reference kit.

Child Reaper/El Blanco

\n

There are a number of things that make Reaper so easily identifiable, but you can most likely narrow it down to the original skin's mask and his twin shot guns. Making your own mask might be a somewhat daunting prospect, but if you're too late to purchase your own mask (painted or unpainted) from a variety of online sellers, you can take a look at some of the other mask designs Reaper sports throughout the game.

\n

This particularly super-casual spray combines the original mask with a blank hockey mask -- a super easy find during this season's love affair with classic Jason horror.

\n

And trust me, if you're planning on doing a Halloween costume of Reaper, nothing is too silly. Even the officially licensed version you can buy from Spirit Halloween falls pretty short of our dark, soulless edgelord. So if you want to spare your wallet and wear something just as good, check out the DIY instructions on the next slide.

How to DIY Casual Mei

\n

Mei's cosplay popularity is what it is because her stripped-down costume design is easy enough for a filthy casual -- and between the original design and her dozens of different skins, you can ramp up in difficulty to something even a pro would stoop to making.

\n

Accept it. Embrace it. The beauty of Mei (and D.Va, see later) lies in the fact that her hair is that of a real human being -- and if you're a brunette, a bun and bangs is something you can do yourself with a bare minimum of fuss.

\n
What You'll Need:
\n
    \n
  1. Wig (if needed): Even if you needed to buy a wig for the cause, Halloween quality wig-wear can get you a good approximation without a great deal of work, cost, or time.
  2. \n
  3. Hair Stick: A chopstick, some polymer clay, a wooden bead, some paint, a short piece of jewelry chain, and a snowflake charm will produce a perfectly serviceable hair stick. With Christmas already creeping into craft stores, finding a wintery charm won't be very hard at all.
  4. \n
  5. Glasses: If you want to be super accurate, visible rivets on the frame front are a must. And even if you aren't, the classic Ray-Ban look has been around so long that you're bound to find something at your local dollar store/teeny accessories store to fit the bill.
  6. \n
  7. Blue Spaghetti Strap Tank Top: Belly-baring is totally and completely optional. You can jazz it up like Eclair (pictured above) did with some lace, or keep true to the more athletic style of the original.
  8. \n
  9. Drawstring Sweatpants: Gray and/or blue is the key here. The originals are gray with a blue waistband and stripes down the sides.
  10. \n
  11. Bracelet: Light blue/teal bracelet with a snowflake charm. If you can't find something in an accessories store post-Frozen, I guarantee you can easily make your own.
  12. \n
\n

As a bonus, you'll probably already be keeping your datapad-sized phone with you at all times anyway, this time it'll do double duty as a prop. And you'll get to show up in sweatpants and still get away with being in costume.

\n

My advice? Bring a big fuzzy blue sweater too, just in case!

\n

If you want a closer look at her character design (it won't help you much with your accessories, but that leaves a little room for your own creativity), you can take a look at the official Mei reference kit

Casual Mei

\n

It's probably a good thing that temperatures stateside have been fairly high these days and may still hold out until the end of the month -- at least if you're planning on stepping out as casual Mei from the Overwatch artbook/spray.

\n

The face that launched a thousand knockoff Ray-Ban sales, "Mei is bae" is source one for the eternal online in-fighting about her waistline and a million closet cosplay selfies.

\n

And yet... who cares? Head to the next slide for instructions on how to get this look yourself!

It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing, the temperature's dropping, and pumpkin spice everything is back on the market. Spirit pop-up shops are taking over, and fake skeletons are vying with Christmas trees for retail space at Walmart.

\n

It's October, and Halloween is just around the corner. Which of course means the advent of the annual hunt and scramble for new costume ideas -- and Overwatch has a great cast of characters to use. But their costumes can also be pretty complex at times. While it would be awesome as hell to show up for game night (or any night) fully decked out in a Blizzcon-worthy costume, we don't always have the budget, the skill, or even the time to really make that happen.

\n

So don't! The secret to a good Halloween costume is that you're having fun wearing it, and whoever sees you recognizes you for who and what you are.

Here are 5 different ways to DIY your own Halloween Overwatch costume!

Vi from LoL likes to think of every problem as a brick wall waiting to be smashed by her hex gauntlets.

\n

Ryan Brandt, aka Fake Nerd Boy, cosplays a menacing male Vi that looks like he is about to bust one of those walls.

4.) Psycho and Mad Moxxi (Borderlands Series)

\n

I know this technically counts as two costumes, but "The couple that cosplays together stays together." That's Ethan and Lauren's mantra on their Facebook page, Thousand Faces Cosplay, so we'll stick with this as 'one' amazing entry.

\n

According to the Fashionably Geek article where this picture was featured, this shoot was done at an abandoned meat packing plant in St. Louis. I hope Lauren screamed out in Psycho fashion, "You're gonna be my new meat bicycle!"

 5.) Zarya (Overwatch)

\n

Zarya, a classic tanking character in Overwatch, loves to play or fight with her particles -- particularly her particle cannon (no pun intended).

Jecht's Zarya stands, looking impressive and intimidating. He's ready to stand strong alongside other heroes, and he'll need those muscles to carry his weapon around.

 6.) Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII)

\n

The main antogonist, Sephiroth, is a well known villain throughout the Final Fantasy franchise.

\n

Here, a fem Sephiroth, cosplayed by Crystal Graziano, glares icily. With her longsword and cutting gaze, she's ready to strike down Cloud and his team, especially Aerith (Too soon? Probably not).

7.) Kratos (God of War Series)

\n

Ashlee King nails a female Kratos, still looking as stern as ever. Just don't get on her bad side, unless you want to end up on the wrong side of her swords.

Ashlee's cosplay gives a cool twist to a female Kratos with her bright red hair, unlike the usually bald male Kratos.

8.) Princess Peach (Super Mario Series)

\n

Another Nintendo princess becomes a prince. Spensaur Cosplay creates a very regal male version of Princess Peach, that seems to be in another castle.

\n

Similar to the genderbent Princess Zelda cosplay, Spensaur stays true to Princess Peach's usual colors, but still retains a very delicate look.

9.) Princess Zelda (The Legend of Zelda Series)

\n

Jeff Pelletier Tremblay cosplays a male Princess Zelda, or should I say, Prince Zelda. What's even more amazing is that he stays true to Princess Zelda's color scheme, and the costume still looks masculine.

\n

The costume is also reminiscent of Zelda's costume from Twilight Princess, noted by the amount of detail in Jeff's shoulder pauldrons.

10.) Nathan Drake (Uncharted Series)

\n

Stormtrooper

\n

Cosplayers: Unknown

\n

What would a Star Wars Celebration be without some stormtoopers marching about? It wouldn't be one, that's what.

Here, a stormtrooper, clad in his all-white armor, stands over an Ewok clinging to his leg, Return of the Jedi-style. With a questioning gesture, he is either unsure what the creature is actually trying to accomplish.

Jawa and BB-8

\n

Cosplayer: Unknown

\n

This Jawa went the traditional route. Covered from head to toe by a brown robe, its yellow eyes glow amongst the blackness of its hooded face. This Jawa has bundled up a battered BB-8, most likely looking to make a nice sale of the droid.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

\n

Cosplayer: Rattle and Burn

\n

Thrawn started off as a Grand Admiral in the Imperial Navy before the Galactic Civil War. With knowledge of the uncharted regions of the galaxy, he was an asset to Emperor Palpatine. Here, Rattle and Burn is covered in blue body paint and decked out in a white Imperial Navy uniform. Amazing that no paint smeared onto the white.

Han Solo

\n

Cosplayer: Unknown

\n

Han Solo is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars franchise. A smuggler who falls in love with Princess Leia, he has remained a fan favorite for the last 40 years.

Here, Han gets a little genderbend, though the cosplayer stays as close to his original costume as possible. Short hair, white shirt, black vest, and a blaster, she has all the main Solo points down.

Jawa Girls

\n

Cosplayers: Uncanny MeganDallas Nagata White

\n

Uncanny Megan and Dallas Nagata White take a creative approach to their Jawa cosplay. Going a sexier route, they cut off the midriff and wear short skirts. Brown boots, socks, and the typical hooded top finish off the look. Glowing eyes stare from the depths of their hoods as they wait for their next target.

Darth Vader Unmasked

\n
Cosplayer: Unknown
\n

Darth Vader is obviously a very popular cosplay. The Dark Lord of the Sith, a villain with his own theme music, and a loud mouth breather, Darth Vader is a mainstay within the Star Wars franchise. It is a rarity, however, to see him without his helmet when cosplayed. Here he is, though, suit fully detailed, helmet in hand, and scarred face exposed to the sunlight. The work on this cosplay is incredible, especially the scarring on his face.

Cosplayers: Unknown

\n

At first, I had to take a second look at this cosplay trio. The cartoonish aspect of their costumes is spot on, making me do a double take to make sure they were real people. The crafting, detail, and paint on the masks are amazing. The cartoonish feel of the attire matches the masks and really brings Star Wars Rebels to life.

Dengar

\n

Cosplayer: Unknown

\n

Dengar is another deadly bounty hunter that roams the galaxy. Hired by Darth Vader to track down Han Solo as a trap for Luke Skywalker, Dengar ended up losing the hunt to Boba Fett.

This cosplay has the weathered look of Dengar down. From the head wrap to the weathering and rust spots on the armor, there was some attention to detail that went into this costume.

Ewok and Wookie

\n

Cosplayers: Unknown

\n

While Chewbacca is the most notable Wookie in the Star Wars franchise, he is not the only one of his species. Here are two Wookies hanging out with their furry brethren, the Ewok. It's obvious these cosplayers are dedicated to their costumes of choice, as wearing layers of fur at a convention is very hot.

Kylo Ren and Rey

\n

Cosplayers: Unknown

\n

Kylo Ren and Rey were the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A new generation of lightsaber-wielding characters for a new generation of viewers, this pair captured the hearts of fans around the world: Kylo Ren, the grandson of Darth Vader, trying so desperately to follow in his footsteps. Rey, a strong female who can use the Force.

\n

These two cosplay their chosen character magnificently. Kylo Ren is masked, with the small details in the mask and cloak really showing the dedication to recreating the character. Wielding his tri-saber, he is intimidating. Next to him stands Rey in her white outfit, wielding the legendary Skywalker lightsaber and her staff. The small details, such as her pristine hair and belt, really help the cosplay come to life.

Boba Fett

\n

Cosplayer: Widen15

\n

Boba Fett is one of the most notorious deadly bounty hunters in a galaxy far, far way, who, under the charge of Jabba the Hutt, is tasked with hunting down Han Solo. Here, Widen15 nails Boba's original look. From the blaster bolt on the helmet (which he received from another infamous bounty hunter) and vambraces to the intricate construction of the props, Widen15's Boba cosplay is astounding.

Princess Leia and Chewbacca get a makeover in this crossover cosplay at Star Wars Celebration 2017. Strutting his finest duds, Chewie looks great in his rendition of the Beast. Princess Leia's slave outfit gets a color change to that of Belle's channel ballgown. Gold chains, a red flower, and a blue suit jacket complete this couple's cosplay well.

Master Luke Skywalker

\n

Cosplayer: Oldmasterluke

\n

Oldmasterluke takes on the latest version of Luke Skywalker, who has been in exile on Achto for some time. Going for gray hair and a missing hand, this cosplay is phenomenal. He looks like he just came out of The Force AwakensThe attention to detail on the robotic hand is simply astounding. The small details, such as gray hairs in his eyebrows, really help sell the old Luke Skywalker look.
