As you make your way around the Wizarding school in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll come across various puzzle doors beckoning you to decipher their solutions. Known as Arithmancy Doors, they hold treasures and loot you’ll want to pick up. If you’re here, you’re wondering how to solve Arithmancy doors.
Hogwarts Legacy Arithmancy Door Solutions Explained
In Hogwarts’ Library Annex, there is an Arithmancy door surrounded by books and a chalkboard. On the chalkboard is an example of the door puzzles. Next to the chalkboard is a chest, and inside is a cipher note with the values of each creature symbol that surrounds the nearby door. The values start at 0 from the top-left side and end at 9 on the bottom-right side.
Each Arithmancy door puzzle has in the middle two sets of triangles with a number in the center, and three orbs linked around the triangle. In the orbs are:
- A question mark (?) corresponding to the single question mark switch by each door.
- A double question mark (??) corresponding to the double question mark switch by each door.
- A creature symbol.
- And a number.
The number in the middle of the triangle is the sum of the three orbs around it. The question marks correspond to the dials you need to spin next to each door to enter your answer, which is the sum in the middle of each triangle.
An example equation would look like this:
- Sum of Triangle symbol: 9
- Orb 1: 2
- Orb 2: Unicorn
- Orb 3: ?
The answer to the question mark would be the salamander symbol (6), because the number 2 + the Unicorn symbol (1) = 3. And 9-3=6.
Once you reveal the puzzles, you can figure out what creature symbol corresponds to the number needed to solve the equation. Then you have to spin the ? and ?? dials next to each door to the correct creature to solve them.
Go back to the door after doing so, and you’ll be able to open it. Behind the door will be two chests with various articles of gear or collectible items inside.
Arithmancy Doors: All Locations & Puzzle Solutions
Astronomy Wing Door
The Astronomy Wing Arithmancy Door is located behind the Charms Classroom Floo Flame. Both dials are by the door.

Ravenclaw Tower Door
If you are a Ravenclaw, this Arithmancy Door is near the common room, under the stairs. Otherwise, climb the Grand Staircase until you come upon the blue corridor signaling the start of Ravenclaw Tower. The ? dial is off to the left in the alcove and the ?? dial is to the right when looking at the door.

Great Hall Door
From the Floo Flame in the Great Hall, head to the left. Take another left down the corridor. The ? dial is on the left side of the hall closer to the door, while the ?? dial is on the right side of the hall.

Central Hall Door
You can find this Arithmancy Door right near the Potions Classroom Floo Flame. The ? dial is by the door. The ?? dial is above the door on a balcony.

Divination Tower Door
This Arithmancy Door is easiest to reach from the Divination Classroom Floo Flame. From the Flame, go toward the wooden platform and take the first right. Both dials are next to the door.

Arithmancy Classroom Left Side Door
Behind the Divination Tower door are two more Arithmancy doors. Again, both dials are by the door.

Arithmancy Classroom Right Side Door
On the opposite of the room is another Arithmancy Door. Like the previous two, the dials are by the door.

Grand Staircase Door
This Arithmancy Door is located near the Grand Staircase Floo Flame.

Grand Staircase Tower Door
Farther up the staircase, past the corridor to the Ravenclaw common room, is the next Arithmancy Door. The ? dial is up the next section of stairs, whilt the ?? dial is behind you when facing the door.

These last two Arithmancy Doors are in areas of Hogwarts inaccessible until you can unlock and cast Alohomora.
Hospital Wing Door
The first time you come across this Arithmancy door is during the “Caretaker’s Lunar Lament” quest when you sneak into the faculty wing and then the hospital wing.
The door is located on the second floor on the left side. The ? dial is near the door, while the ?? dial is on the right side of the room. You can complete the door while remaining invisible.

Potions Classroom Door
Head to the Potions Classroom Floo Flame for this door. Go through the double doors and make your way downstairs until you come across a locked door. Unlock the door, which has the Arithmancy Door located in the room behind it. Both dials are very close by on either wall.

North Hall Door
From the transfiguration classroom, head through the doors on the left, toward the Bell Tower. Go up the stairs, and you’ll see a level one locked door. Unlock it and head down the hall. The dials are on either side of the door.
