Destiny 2 Apophasis Boss Not Spawning Bug Fix

There's a new bug in the Apophasis mission in Destiny 2 Season of the Wish, but thankfully the fix is pretty simple.

If you’re playing the weekly story in Destiny 2 Season of the Wish, you might run into a bug during the Apophasis mission where the final boss fails to spawn. Thankfully, the fix is very simple, though the exact reason for it is honestly beyond me.

The Apophasis mission in Wishing All the Best functions like any other weekly story mission until you reach the final boss room. For reasons I can’t adequately explain, after planting the Rally flag and walking into the boss arena, sometimes it just doesn’t spawn. To get the Apophasis boss to spawn, leave the room and go past the Rally flag. Afterward, the boss should appear and you can complete the encounter as normal.

I encountered the bug when I was doing my run-through of Apophasis, and I wandered the boss room for about five minutes waiting for something to happen. Then I left, walked just past the rally flag, and boom: boss spawn.

What Causes the Apophasis Boss Bug?

If I were to hazard a guess as to why this bug exists, I’d say it has something to do with a game system called a flag. In short (and probably poorly explained), a flag is a device within a game that determines how a game makes certain decisions. In this situation, the Apophasis boss only spawns when you, the player, cross a specific threshold in a specific way.

I can’t say for sure, but normal Riven’s Lair boss flags appear at or immediately around the door. Approaching a radius around the door triggers the flag, and the boss spawns, allowing you to proceed. I don’t pretend to know what the Apophasis bug actually is, as Destiny 2 is an incredibly complex game, but my hunch is there’s some issue with the flag that tells the game to spawn the boss and going back to the Rally point makes D2 recheck the flag, allowing the boss to appear.

If you encounter the bug in Apophaiss where the boss doesn’t spawn and you tried leaving the arena, you might want to test wandering about the place for a few minutes and then try again. Alternatively — and this isn’t an ideal solution by any means — you may need to restart the mission. Apophasis doesn’t take too long to complete, but it’s frustrating to need to redo something you’ve already completed. Believe me, I know.

Hopefully, this method of fixing the Apophasis boss spawn bug works for you.
