How to Start the Hermitage Pursuit in Dredge

A short ways out from Ingfell, you’ll stumble upon the Hermit’s Port, an access area to a group of ruins. There, you’ll find the Hermit, who mentions the monster that has destroyed the area.

He speaks of his brother, who used to make Explosives for whale fishing. The Hermit will also mention the Family Crest, how he stole it, and that it went missing due to a monster attack.

To get the brother to make Explosives for you, you’ll need to find the Family Crest, return it to the brother, and bring the Hermit back to Ingfell.

To find the Family Crest, head into the center area of Gale Cliffs in the eastern portion of the region, where the monster lies in wait. Take the small waterway to the right of the Hermit’s Port, and continue with the cliffs on your left.

If you go to the left of the Hermit’s Port, you’ll run into the monster fish the Hermit mentioned, which can destroy your ship. For the basic hull, it will be game over if it’s damaged more than three times, Either way you go, head for coordinates O3 as your destination.

You’ll come to a small island with a port and an abandoned campsite that has some items you can sell. From there, go to the southeast corner of the archipelago and left at the wreckage in the water.

Continue straight through a narrow area into an open area to find the yellow Family Crest location. Dredge away to bring the item onboard.

With the Family Crest in hand, it’s time to return to the Hermit. Stay alert for the monster fish as you return to his port. Have a conversation with the Hermit, and he’ll send you to Ingfell with the Family Crest. Speak with his brother, the Retired Whaler, about the Crest to return it to him.

Once the Family Crest is returned, the Whaler will ask you to blow up some debris that is blocking a shortcut through the cliffs.

If you take the route to the left of the Hermit’s Port, you’ll be stalked by the monster as soon as you enter the narrow waterway. If the monster is catching up to you, use Haste or have a faster Engine equipped, especially if you already have damage to your hull. You can stick with the right path and use the same route utilized to find the Family Crest. It will take you longer, but it will avoid the monster.

Continue until you find the marked area. To use explosives, you simply need to get close enough to interact with the debris. Confirm you want to blow it up, then escape back to Ingfell and report your success to the Retired Whaler.

The last step of the Hermitage Pursuit is getting the Hermit to Ingfell. Make sure you have the six spaces required to transport him; his rectangular shape means you may need to offload some items to your storage or at the Dusty Pontoon before heading to the Hermit’s Port.

Find the Retired Whaler at the docks, and buy Packed Explosives from him for $40; they take up two squares in your cargo or storage.

That’s how to find the Family Crest, get explosives, and complete the Hermitage Pursuit in Dredge. With Packed Explosives onboard, you’ll be able to blow up all the debris littered around the gameFor more, check out our Dredge guides library
