Earth Defense Force 6 Air Raider Guide

Did someone call in the big guns?

Air Raider, the lord of the battlefield, and an endless source of frustration if you don’t know what you’re doing. The Air Raider is undeniably the most powerful class in EDF 6, but it’s also the trickiest to get into and master. If you’re excited about getting into it, then hopefully this Earth Defense Force 6 Air Raider guide will help you learn the gist and purpose of the class.

The Role of an Air Raider

The Air Raider is the dedicated support class of EDF 6. But unlike in other games where the support is usually the healer, in EDF, the support class is the biggest damage dealer. Air Raiders are the only class that can summon artillery strikes and bombing runs, which are some of the highest damaging call-ins in the entire game.

Those aren’t the only toys the Air Raider gets though. Air Raiders can also call in space laser blasts, multiple types of missile barrages, as well as the strongest vehicles in the game. On top of all that, in EDF 6, the Air Raider also has access to various offensive and defensive drones.

There is a caveat though. Because the Air Raider has access to some of the strongest weapons in the game, it has very little in the way of “traditional firearms.” When playing an Air Raider, you have to get creative with how you approach situations. If your tactics fail and you get swarmed then you’re as good as dead.

The Air Raider has access to seven weapon types, those are the following:

  • Request Artillery Units – Howitzer and mortar barrages of different calibers and quantities. High amounts of damage in a circular AoE.
  • Request Gunships – Gunship fire missions and drone attacks. High amounts of damage on single targets or smaller areas.
  • Request Bombers – Carpet bombing missions and strafing runs. These are the largest AoE attacks in the game but they also have the longest cooldowns as well.
  • Request Missiles – Missile barrages from offshore ships and submarines that can be guided via laser pointer. Highly effective against large single targets.
  • Request Satellites – Powerful top-down laser strikes that are effective at stunning and taking out enemies in a specific area.
  • Limpet Guns – Limpet guns are the closest thing you have to traditional weapons. They’re practically upsized grenade launchers with slightly different capabilities based on which version you’re using.
  • Special Weapons – These are special weapons and call-ins that are very situational but don’t fall into any of the other categories.

How to Play an Air Raider Effectively

The most important skill you have to learn as an Air Raider is the art of running away. Air Raiders is the slowest class as it doesn’t have any movement abilities like the other classes. To move around effectively as an Air Raider you have to diagonally roll everywhere as that’s faster than your base walking speed.

Another important thing to know as an Air Raider is point cost. Each vehicle call-in and some of the airstrikes cost credits to summon. When choosing what weapons to take, consider their point cost as that will determine their availability. Don’t just take out your newest toy every time you unlock it. Instead, level it up first so that it’s stronger and costs less, then take it out.

Target prioritization is another crucial skill to have. Since you’ll be doing most of your damage using vehicles, it’s important to take out the enemy types that deal the most damage to vehicles. On the ground, it’s the spiders and the ants, and in the air, it’s the bees and the tadpoles.

And with that, you should be all set to play the Air Raider effectively. Don’t forget to visit our EDF 6 guides hub if anything else is giving you trouble.
