How to Go On a Date With Tifa or Other Allies in FF7 Rebirth

The relationship system in FF7 Rebirth is fairly straightforward. To get a date with TIfa, or whomever you want to share an intimate moment with, focus on aspects of the game that involve them. Additionally, you need to talk to them when given the chance and provide responses they favor. You’ll see a note on the right side of the screen saying your relationship has changed if you do it right.
For dating Tifa specifically, you need to know and do a few things:
- She’s shy, unsure, and cherishes her past with Cloud. Whenever you have a moment to talk to Tifa, pick the option that’s reassuring, friendly, or relates somehow to her and Cloud’s shared history. Don’t be overly forward or forceful. Most importantly, don’t be mean or dismissive of her uncertainties. For instance, in chapter two when you’re in Kalm, Tifa asks about the generator in the main square. Respond that it reminds Cloud of the water tower from their hometown.
- Focus on side content keyed to Tifa. One of the main ways you build a relationship with your teammates is via side quests with that specific character. You can check which side quests are for whom in the quests screen. It’ll be apparent from the get-go, as the keyed character will be the one with whom Cloud speaks during the quest. If you complete every Tifa side quest and hold back on Aerith, for instance, you have a much better chance of seeing Tifa during the date.
- Use Tifa’s Synergy Abilities. The first time you use a Synergy Ability with a character in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, you gain additional relationship progress with them. If you want Tifa to be your main squeeze, unlock and use her Abilities more than other characters. There will be moments when Tifa is unavailable, so you’ll have to progress other party member’s relationships as well.

How Does Dating Work in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
The dating mechanic in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth takes a few things into account. The most obvious is your relationship status, viewable by pressing L1 to see the face above your party members’ heads. The more that the circle around the face is filled, the better your rating with them. You’ll go on a date with the character with the highest overall relationship value. However, the circle symbol isn’t entirely indicative of how close you are to someone.
Instead, there’s a hidden, more granular tracker keeping tabs on how well you get along with your party. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth also has two types of dates: Standard and Intimate. Standard dates don’t result in anything particularly romantic, while Intimate dates do. To get an Intimate date with Tifa, you need to form a Strong Bond with her, which means filling the entire ring around her relationship status marker. It will be pale green and have a small pulse every second or so when you pull it up.
Intimate dates follow the same requirements as Standard ones if you have a Strong Bond with more than one character. So if Tifa is your girl, be laser-focused on forming such a bond with her and her alone. A date with Tifa was my goal. Though I did a lot of side quests and had conversations with the whole party, as the date neared in Chapter 12, I began prioritizing side content where she was my companion.
Then, to make absolutely sure, there were a few moments with other characters where I gave responses that were less than ideal, hampering their connection to Cloud. It felt kind of sad to do, because I really like all the members of the party, but Tifa was the character I wanted to romance, and unlike Persona 5, you can’t date everyone at once.
