Everything you need to know to get a head start in FFXIV: Stormblood and unlock the new Red Mage and Samurai jobs.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Lalafells and lizard-people, Final Fantasy XIV‘s latest and greatest expansion is finally coming out after a nigh unbearable wait — and I bet you’re itching to jump right into it!

I won’t waste your time with too much fluff, then. Whether you’re looking to unlock Red Mage and Samurai or access the new Stormblood maps, you’ve landed in the right place.

How to Access Stormblood in FFXIV

So you’ve redeemed and installed FFXIV‘s latest expansion, but the game doesn’t tell you where to go to access the new maps. What gives?

Well, that’s because you must first unlock the maps during Stormblood‘s Main Scenario Quests (MSQ), which starts with “Beyond the Great Wall” from Alphinaud in the Rising Stones (X:6.0 Y:5.9) — the Scion’s hideout in Mor Dhona. However, you must be level 60 with patch 3.5’s last MSQ, the Far Edge of Fate, completed before you can pick it up.

If you’re not caught up on the Main Scenario Quests, don’t worry yourself. Simply follow them to their conclusion and you’ll stumble into the new expansion eventually. If you’re impatient, however, you could always look into the Tales of Adventure items in the Mog Station and skip straight to Stormblood

How to Unlock Red Mage and Samurai in FFXIV

Even if you’ve redeemed and downloaded Stormblood before you’re at a point where you can access the new areas, you can still unlock the new jobs if you meet the requirements.

  1. You must have a Disciple of War or Magic job at level 50. Then,
  2. You must beat the Praetorium, which is an 8-player MSQ dungeon experienced during A Realm Reborn‘s finale.

Once you meet the requirements, head to Ul’dah to find the new job quests.

  • Unlock Red Mage by picking up “Taking the Red” from the Distraught Lass at the Ul’dah Steps of Thal (X:14.1 Y:11.7)
  • Unlock Samurai by picking up “The Way of the Samurai” from the Ul’dahn Citizen at the Ul’dah Steps of Nald (X:9.2 Y:9.1)
