A Veil of Gossamer Clouds is one of those Dragon’s Dogma 2 quests where you have to go all over the map speaking to NPCs and fetching key items. I’ll show you all the steps in detail. Here’s how to complete A Veil of Gossamer Clouds in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
A Veil of Gossamer Clouds Quest Guide in Dragon’s Dogma 2
In short, you can complete A Veil of Gossamer Clouds by getting the letter from Sven, speaking to Elena for a clue, and then locating an item in Bakbatthal. More specifically, here are all the steps in detail:
- Speak to Sven: A messenger will inform you that Sven wants to talk to you at the palace. Go to the location marked above in the palace which is up the spiral staircase in the far right from the main palace entrance. Get the letter from Sven that starts this quest. Now, you’ll have to decipher it, and I recommend heading to Lady Elena.
- Speak to Elena: For me, she’s was in Vernworth Gaol since I completed the Saint of the Slums quest so I went there and spoke to her. She reveals that this letter is to Lord Phaesus, the director of the Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Battahl. If you haven’t finished Saint of the Slums, she can be found below the Gracious Hand building in the Slums where you can start the quest and follow our guide.
- Go to Batthal: Travel to the region of Batthal, more specifically, the capital city of Bakbattahl, which is where the Forbidden Magick Research Lab is. There are two easy ways to reach it where: one is this Batthal Gerco Cavern shortcut I found below, and the other is taking an ox cart from Vernworth to Rest Town and then another from Rest Town to Bakbatthal. If you’re taking the second route, you’ll receive an entry permit through Captain Brant’s final main quest.
You can also bring the letter to Waldhar to investigate the unfinished letter from Sven but I don’t recommend doing this. He’ll just tell you it’s a love letter and this isn’t the true ending for the quest. The true ending is in Batthal.
How to Find the Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Once you’ve reached Batthal and are in Bakbatthal, do the following to finish A Veil of Gossamer Clouds:
- Go to the east part of the city and enter the Flamebearer Palace.
- Walk to the location I marked on the map below to enter the Forbidden Magick Research Lab.
- Ignore the guard and go down the spiral staircase until you reach a room with a skeletal dragon.
- I tested two versions of the quest; in one, the guards didn’t attack me at all. In the other, they did, and I ended up in jail. However, I just escaped with the Makeshift Gaol key, returned to where they captured me, and they weren’t hostile anymore so I was free to explore.
- Once you’re in the chamber with the skeletal dragon, a cutscene will play, and you need to go to the Laboratorium Workshop #2, which is the second room on the right.
- Pick up the letter from the table, which was penned by Disa and addressed to Lord Phaesus about getting Sven on the throne through a tragedy.
- Bring this letter back to Sven at Vernworth to complete the quest and get 20,000 gold and a Ferrystone.
