Helldivers 2: How to Use LAS-16 Sickle

The first thing I discovered about the new LAS-16 Sickle is that it definitely has higher burst damage but a shorter firing time. I believe this is because it fires short laser bursts and builds up heat more quickly than, for example, the LAS-5 Scythe laser rifle. As with any other energy weapon, it doesn’t need reloading, but once it overheats, I’d have to quickly change the heat dump canister.

The heat dump canisters basically function as the weapon’s magazines. They come in three pieces by default, but you can carry up to six of them after the upgrades. It takes about 3 seconds to change the heat dump canisters, which is a bit too long. If you manage to carefully prevent the overheating, you won’t have to reload the canisters at all. That’s why I consider LAS-16 Sickle an excellent weapon for colder planets, where it doesn’t overheat as in any other type of environment.

Lastly, the LAS-16 Sickle is extremely dependent on the accuracy of your shots. Fortunately, it has absolutely no recoil, which makes aiming so much easier. If you manage to execute center mass shots, you’ll be able to extract maximum damage out of them. On the other hand, the off-center shots deal significantly less damage. So keep this in mind when utilizing this laser rifle.

All LAS-16 Sickle Upgrades List

  • Heat Capacity: Increases the amount of heat absorbed before overload.
  • Heat Sink: Increases the rate at which the weapon dissipates heat.
  • Laser Overcharge: Increases damage and heat generation.
  • Increased Overcharge: Increases damage and heat generation.

At its base, the LAS-16 Sickle can’t penetrate any armor that’s above light level. That’s why the Laser Overcharge and Increased Overcharge upgrades are so important, as they’ll allow you to use this rifle on higher-difficulty planets. Of course, since these upgrades will generate more heat, you’ll also need Heat Capacity and Heat Sink to reduce the chance of overheating. Lastly, if you want to take out Cyborg armor or something similar, you’ll have to use anti-tank Stratagems, as in that case, the LAS-16 Sickle won’t be able to do much on its own even with the upgrades.

That’s all I wanted to say on how to get and use LAS-16 Sickle in Helldivers 2. Stay tuned for more HD2 tips and tricks articles, including the complete list of all Stratagem Codes.
