How to Get the Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Essentially, you unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation by talking to Sigurd, who’s the maister for this class, and asking him about his fighting style. That said, there are a few locations where you can meet him in the early game, depending on where you go:

  • In Melve at the end of the Oxcart Courier quest when the false dragon attacks and starts the Readvent of Calamity quest.
  • In Harve Village, when you go there to rescue the soldiers during the Monster Culling quest.
  • In Harve Village, when Ulrika leaves in the middle of the Readvent of Calamity quest, or any other time you visit Harve.

In general, as long as you fight off the second dragon attack at Melve by visiting it again after you’ve reached Vernworth, Sigurd will be willing to teach you the Mystic Spearhand vocation. Here are some details on his exact locations.

Once you go back to Melve after reaching the capital city, most commonly through the Oxcart Courier quest, a dragon attack will trigger. This is a false dragon boss fight that you don’t need to win but instead simply take down one or two of its lifebars and it’ll fly away. I highly recommend climbing the dragon and hitting the pustules on his neck which are the weak spots.

As soon as the dragon flees, look for Sigurd, who was also fighting the dragon. He’ll likely be near the well in front of Melve, searching the battlefield. Start a dialogue with him and ask about his fighting style, which unlocks the Mystic Spearhand.

If you somehow miss him in Melve, you can also meet Sigurd in Harve village. You’ll most likely arrive here through the Monster Culling quest, where you need to save some soldiers from Saurians. Sigurd is in his shack on the hill, as shown in the image above. Look for the Coastal Hut on your map. Talk to him and ask about his fighting style.

What is Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

No matter how you unlock the Mystic Spearhand, you can then switch to this Hybrid Vocation from almost any Inn or the Vocation Guild in Vernworth. The class is all about magic-infused melee attacks and combining ranged spells with duospear attack skills. While they don’t have a reliable dash or block skill, their focus is the Forbeding Bolt ability which is a chargeable ranged spell attack that immobilizes foes.

I highly recommend focusing on Dragoun’s Stabbe weapon skill and the Quik Fot core skill since they provide the Mystic Spearhand with much-needed mobility. Furthermore, the Mirour Vesture is another must-have skill, in my opinion, that blocks attacks. You need all the defensive skills you can get since you can’t reliably dodge.

Lastly, Sigurd is also the Mystic Spearhand maister so once you’ve ranked up this Hybrid Vocation enough, he can teach you the ultimate skill. I was Rank 7 on my Thief when I learned their ultimate skill from the Thief maister so I assume it’s about the same Rank that the Mystic Spearhand requires. All you have to do is talk to Sigurd once you’re Rank 7 in the vocation and follow his dialogue and quest to learn the ultimate skill.

That concludes my guide on how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you’re interested in more Dragon’s Dogma 2 guides, check out how to rescue the Magistrate or the best pawn vocations.
