Multiplayer and Mercenaries mode should go hand-in-hand. The DLC challenge mode for Resident Evil 4 remake brings back the most memorable minigame from the original title — and the series as a whole — but does it allow you to unlock co-op or competitive play?
Given how much RE4 remake has modernized certain elements of the game, many were hoping that this iteration of Mercenaries would take note and allow them to play with their friends or like-minded guns-for-hire. It certainly wouldn’t seem out of the question for Mercenaries to have multiplayer.
Does RE4 Mercenaries Mode Have Multiplayer?

The answer to whether or not Mercenaries mode in RE4 remake has multiplayer or not is, no: unfortunately, the beloved game mode does not have multiplayer. Neither does Resident Evil 4 remake have co-op.
Although there are multiple characters to play as and there are additions when compared to the original Resident Evil 4, the experience is still a single-player one.
The revelation has come as a disappointment to some fans. Even though Resident Evil: Village had a much different take on Mercenaries, many were hoping this version would take some cues from Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. Not only were those much closer in gameplay than the first-person style of Resident Evil: Village, but they also added co-op multiplayer.
Some of these co-op mechanics can even be seen in the Resident Evil 4 remake. Ashley’s incapacitated state is similar to when your co-op partner was downed and there are also moments when another NPC fights alongside you.
There is an expectation that the mode will receive an update further down the line to add in more characters. Multiplayer could also hypothetically be added, but there’s no telling how feasible that will be. For now, Mercenaries mode is single-player only.
