How to Complete Lost in the Dunes in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Lost in the Dunes quest starts in Kara Kara Bazaar. This takes you on a short trek to the Oasis Source, an underground cavern below a nearby rock formation. I’ve included a map below to show these areas:

  • Kara Kara Bazaar quest starting area: You’ll meet an NPC by the name of Benja in the southwestern portion of the marketplace. Benja tells you about Ponthos, a caravan merchant who has disappeared.
  • Oasis Source and Ponthos’ location – Continue southwest upon leaving Kara Kara Bazaar and you’ll notice a towering rock formation. Off to the side, there’s a sinkhole that you’ll want to fall into. I myself got worried initially, but it’s fine, though, since you’ll end up in an underground cavern.

Once you’re down below, you’ll meet the merchant, Ponthos. The goal now is to find an exit. To make your escape, you’ll have to destroy the rocks and boulders that are blocking the tunnels. You can either use a lot of Bomb Flowers or two-handed blunt weapons. Alternatively, I suggest activating Yunobo’s Sage Companion ability, assuming you’ve already completed the Goron City/Eldin regional quest.

Upon reaching the very end of the tunnel, you’ll spot a ladder. Climb it and talk to the caravanserai group to complete the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Lost in the Dunes side quest.

Your reward might seem peculiar: it’s just a black orb. Fret not, since this is actually part of another quest chain. You’ll have to complete Heroine’s Secret, followed by The Mysterious Eighth. The orb itself is one of the requirements for the latter’s objectives.

With that, you’ve completed the TotK Lost in the Dunes quest. In any case, there are countless activities and mechanics in the game, so be sure to visit our Zelda: TotK guides hub for tips, strategies, and walkthroughs.
