Pokemon GO: How to Get and Use a Mystery Box for Meltan

You may have seen talk of a Mystery Box in Pokemon GO, and how it’s the only way to get the elusive Pokemon Meltan. The Mystery Box and its connected Pokemon are both a rarity, but for good reason. If you’re wondering how the item works and how to get it, the guide below explains what you need to know. 

Pokemon Go Mystery Box and Meltan Explained

There is one way to get a Mystery Box and Meltan, and that’s to send Pokemon to:

• Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
• Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
• Or Pokemon HOME.

Once you transfer a Pokemon from Pokemon GO to another one of the games above, you’ll receive a Mystery Box in your Pokemon GO inventory. Then, you’ll need to activate the Mystery Box, which causes Meltan to appear in the wild, allowing you to catch it.

When you open a Mystery Box, you’ll only have 60 minutes to catch as many Meltan as possible, so ensure you have some time set aside. Additionally, once a Mystery Box is activated, you’ll have to wait three days before you can receive and open another one. 

To reduce the amount of time you need to have Meltan as your buddy, opening a Mystery Box multiple times when the cooldown finishes is of great value. Not only do you need a lot of Meltan Candy to evolve it, but you’ll need Meltan Candy to power it up. 

Meltan is a Mythical Steel Pokemon that evolves into Melmetal, one of the strongest Pokemon in the game for battling. To evolve, Meltan needs 400 Meltan Candy, meaning you either have to do a whole lot of walking with one as your Buddy or catch many Meltan.
