Remnant 2: How to Get the Pulse Rifle

Here's how to get the Pulse Rifle in Remnant 2, one of the better secret guns.

There are many different types of Long Guns in Remnant 2. Some are single-shot rifles, while others are fully automatic LMGs and burst weapons. Collecting multiple variants in this broad category not only gives you more control over situational engagements but also your build’s effectiveness. With that in mind, here’s how to get the Pulse Rifle in Remnant 2

How to Get the Pulse Rifle in Remnant 2

  • To get the Pulse Rifle, you must unlock a door in the hidden chamber beneath the Custodian in N’Erud.
  • You’ll need to find the Decorum Cipher and Memory Core 2 items to do so.
  • This can be one of the longer quests in the game.

To do all this, you need to have the Dormant N’Erudian Facility and Terminus Station side dungeons in your world. I’ll detail how to tell whether you do below. There are two open areas, so be sure to scour each one for these sub-areas.

I did mention that this was one of the longer quests in Remnant 2, but have heart: it’s not as involved as getting other items like the Void Relic Heart for the Archon class. Because of the game’s RNG and how hellishly N’Erud’s tileset can be, it took my fireteam a few hours to nab this weapon. But it’s worth the time. You can get the Pulse Rifle in your campaign or in Adventure Mode, though I highly suggest doing it with friends in co-op. Follow these links if you’re looking for help with a particular step of getting the Pulse Rifle:

Pulse Rifle Step 1: How to Find The Custodian

Screenshot by GameSkinny

The Custodian is an NPC found in N’Erud, specifically Ascension Spire in the Abyssal Rift, a hellscape full of tough enemies and elites. Exactly where this NPC shows up in the tile set is random but always in one of the two large open areas. Look for a towering building with a statue that has upraised arms reaching into the sky. There will be a ball of light above the hands.

You don’t have to speak to The Custodian but instead enter a secret basement chamber in his building to get the Pulse Rifle. When you enter the building, go left and behind the pillars immediately. You’ll see a hole in the floor. Drop through. Follow the path right, past the Drzyr Replicator merchant, and take the elevator down.

There, you’ll see a contraption with purple electricity in which you’ll need to place two items: the Decorum Cipher and the Memory Core II. Both spots on the contraption must be empty for the dungeons to be in your world. If they aren’t, exit and reroll. That’s why I suggest either trying to get the Pulse Rifle in Adventure Mode or joining a friend that already has a checkpoint with empty spaces on the contraption.

Pulse Rifle Step 2: How to Get Decorum Cipher

To get the Decorum Cipher for the Pulse Rifle, you must complete the train gauntlet section in the Terminus Station dungeon. To be clear, Step 2 and Step 3 for getting the Pulse Rifle may come before the other. It depends on how your N’Erud tile set is arranged.

  • Exit the train, then turn left and go through the door.
  • Follow the path left, then right to a checkpoint.
  • Go past the checkpoint, right under some black wire conduits.
  • Open the chest, then go right under more conduits.
  • Climb the ladder on the wall in front of you.
  • Go through the room and drop down.
  • Then drop down through the square hole into another room.
  • You can pick up the Atom Smasher here, as well as the Decorum Cipher.

Pulse Rifle Step 3: How to Get Memory Core 2

Screenshot by GameSkinny

To get the Memory Core 2 item for the Pulse Rifle, you must complete the Dormant N’Erudian Facility. Again, because of RNG, you may find this area before Terminus Station.

Once in the Dormant N’Erudian Facility, you’ll need to open a locked door with the Biome-Control Glyph. For me, this was near the World Stone, but it may be in a different place for you. Proceed through the dungeon until you reach an area where you enter a Quarantine Protocol. You’ll have six minutes to make it through the area.

Continue through the area until you reach a large, rounded curve area on the map (it almost looks like a pipe, standing out against the other sharp corners in the dungeon). For me, this was directly on the far opposite side of the dungeon from the World Stone. You’ll be in a larger, more open room and notice the fencing along the path protecting you from the dropoff is broken. Drop down onto a small ledge at the gap in the fence, turn left, and follow the path.

Eventually, you’ll enter another open room with a giant purple tube in the middle. There’s a command center nearby. Go inside and pick up the Biome-Control Glyph. This ends the quarantine, but it may spawn an aberration; I had to fight S.D. 0A7, a flying robot aberration.

Whether you fight an enemy or not, the easiest thing to do is sit at the nearby checkpoint and take Liquid Escape to return to the World Stone. Use the Biome-Control Glyph to open the door. Go inside to get the Toxic Release Valve Amulet and Memory Core II. There’s just one more step to get the Pulse Rifle.

Pulse Rifle Step 4: Return to the Room Below the Custodian

Now return to the room below The Custodian. Place the items in the contraption. The nearby purple electricity gates will open, and you can go through them. That’s how to get the Pulse Rifle.

Pulse Rifle Stats

  • Ideal Range: 22m

The Pulse Rifle is one of the better weapons in the game. Though I personally love the Bonesaw, I’ve started running the deadly combo of Pulse Rifle and Enigma. Even at base, this weapon can be powerful. Firing a three-round burst, it can chunk enemy health and becomes even deadlier when you upgrade it. It doesn’t come with a weapon mod, but that’s OK; you can slot anything into it, and I find that Hot Shot and Corrosive Rounds work wonders with it. At +20, its damage reaches 48.

That’s how to get the Pulse Rifle in Remnant 2. It can be a long quest to get the gun, but it’s one you’ll want in your arsenal, so it’s well worth the effort. For more tips and tricks, like boss strats and item locations, how to get Nebula, and more, head over to our R2 guides hub.
