The Sims 4 Bug Tip – Number Keys Not Working Fix

Can't pause and speed up The Sims 4 with the number keys? Fixing it is simple!
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

The number keys are a Sims player’s best friend: they help you speed up, slow down, and pause the action. Unfortunately there seems to be a bug in The Sims 4 that occasionally makes these keys not function. Luckily, there are a few things that might help.

I ran into this issue myself earlier today more than once, much to my dismay. Two solutions seemed to work in particular. You may have to do this again the next time you launch the game:

  1. Pressing the Escape (Esc) key to bring up the menu, then pressing it again.
  2. Pressing the ‘P’ key to pause, then doing so again to unpause the game.

Both of these worked for me, and hopefully they work for you too. Let’s hope this issue gets addressed in the next patch! If your sims are getting a little too attached to some household items (like mine are, it’s a bug), I’ve also found three solutions to the item holding bug.
